Humanities Shield Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Tony stark or the iron man saviour of the universe although he doesn't know it yet sits upon his work bench. His gaze drawn to the footage taken during the harrowing and chilling battle that had just taken place; face contorted in distress and anxiety as he gazes upon his suits final footage. he sees from his point of view as he enters the dark blue portal he remembers the weight of the nuclear weapon recklessly fired with no thought as to the consequences of such a weapon being unleashed into a city of millions. his hear rate speeds up as he sees the enemy vessel appear before him, gaze intent he takes in every detail he can whilst he sees himself launch the weapon in the direction of this vessel hoping his aim rings true and the weapon is enough to penetrate what must be a tough alien metal. just as the footage stops and fades to black as the suit runs out of power as the ship explodes destroyed by the mighty missile he sees something that fills him with dread.

"Jesus Christ !" he exclaims running a hand through his messy brown hair feeling the sweat coating his hand. he jumps from his chair pacing around his thoughts racing through his brain as he mumbles to himself.

"oh we're fucked, we are so fucked we won by pure fucking luck Jesus Christ how are we supposed to repel an army when we couldn't even handle one ship without having to blow up a city to do it?"

He stops suddenly realising that he is the only one with this knowledge this footage, only he knows what's out there looking for them, waiting for them.

"Get me fury now" he snaps at Jarvis his loyal AI always waiting to serve.

"of course sir, dialling nick fury" The line rings once.. twice then "Stark there better be a good reason you're dialling me on this number you've got thirty seconds before i hang up."

Breathing deeply he speaks quickly and concisely trying to convey the urgency of his call " We got to prepare, the ship they sent, the army Loki commanded that was just the beginning, i saw more ships bigger ships waiting or watching I don't know what but It can't be good take a look !" he exhales shakily dread still running in his veins as he awaits fury's response to the footage he just sent him.

"Fuck sake stark you're being paranoid I don't see any ships just shadows and rocks that could be anything or nothing. Don't use this number again." The line closes as fury hangs up angrily.

"what?" in disbelief at being so easily dismissed tony sits shocked and dismayed that the one person he knew would take the threat seriously laughed him off so easily. he gets up and paces again the footage on a loop surrounded by other screens filled with various clips of other parts of the battle of new York. his gaze drops to his hall of armour behind his desk each suit a monument to the evolution of his greatest technology and legacy the iron man. Gazing upon the suits a memory flickers distantly he hears the annoying voice of Justin hammer.

"Anthony Stark has created a sword with untold possibilities. And yet, he insists it’s a shield. He asks us to trust him as we cower behind it"

"Ok if SHIELD won't help then I'll have to become humanity's shield " His jaw sets, his face hardens in grim determination as he turns and passes his robots and various machinery/lab equipment walking towards a lone gauntlet resting on a table he slots his hand inside raising it into a fist as the blue light of the arc reactor alights his face in an eerie glow.

"Fine I'll do it myself."
