Green Eyes

Three days had passed since the Founder's Ball. Three days since Arya woke up happy and went to bed with grief in her heart. Three days since Loki had confessed his true feelings toward her. Three days of hiding away in her childhood home. She had left the magic bright starry night she shared with the raven haired vampire after he proclaimed his affections. She ran home and didn't look back. She let Loki know she would talk to him eventually, but she needed some time alone to figure things out. She didn't want to run away. That is what she always did. Run away from the problems plaguing her life. Run away from the pain and hurt that tormented her broken soul. But this time she truly wished to think things through. Face the pain and the confusion in her heart and mind and come up with a solution to her blight. But was it truly an issue to have the affections of two people? Two vampires at that.

But Thor had left. Left her. And Loki stayed. And despite her differences with the quiet god like creature, she did feel for him. No matter how many times she pushed the fleeting thoughts away or told herself to ignore the attraction she felt toward him she couldn't deny it any longer. Had she fallen for Thor simply because he had been the first face he saw? Had she fallen for Thor because he was the first one to offer his help when she needed it most? As she pondered these thoughts she considered the possibility that she had nothing in common with Thor other than the fact they were both supernatural beings.

Thor was kind, generous, had a laugh that could shake mountains, and a smile that could light up the darkest of skies. Thor liked to hike, and swim, and drink beer. Arya didn't like any of those things. But did it truly matter that their interests were diverse? Would it make a difference in the long run? In a normal, human, relationship things like interests and hobbies were downfalls if not in common. But considering the immortal factor, could Arya see herself possibly spending eternity with someone she might simply just be attracted too? Did her intense feelings for Thor only spin from her gratitude of him saving her life? Why had she always thought of Loki in the back of her mind? His image lingering in the shadows of her subconscious.

Loki was subdued, adventures, and mischievous. A combination of backwards ideals that Arya would never consider herself to get involved with. As a human she would have brushed by him without a second thought. But as a vampire, as a ravenous blood thirsty vampire, she admired Loki's reserve. He fed on humans, partied like the devil, and educated himself from the simplest to the most extravagant of subjects in this world. He was strange, daring, unique. Arya looked into herself. Their interests not exact but within the same genre.

They both enjoyed music, and literature. They liked their privacy, but also knew exactly when to expose themselves when necessary. They were unusually cunning and had sharp tempers. And their eyes. Their eyes were the same hue of green. Green like a sea of freshly watered grass. Green like the foam on the surface of an ocean untouched by human antihalation. Green like the abysses of calm that always seemed to swirl beneath the surface of Loki's hard exterior.

Arya sat on her porch reading, or attempting to read, a novel she had read for comfort. The sun was just beginning to set and the nightly fall chill of the air was beginning to creep in. She wrapped a blanket around her shoulders and looked out at the early evening sunset. The colors hues of blues, yellows, pinks, and the softest of greens. An unusual cast of color in a sunset. But with Arya's new eyes she saw it. And she knew. She knew all along. Green had been the color of her soul. Green was the color of her eyes, of her sister's eyes, of Loki's eyes. And the image of those eyes came back to her again and again the last three days. As she tried to only think of blue her mind constantly drifted to green.

"Arya." Her name left his lungs like butter on toast. Arya looked from the rainbow painted sky before her and saw Loki standing in the street before her house. Clothed in his black as night attire and hair pushed away from his eyes. Those green eyes she often thought of. "If you still need time. I will take my leave." He said just loud enough for her to hear over the whisper of the soft breeze.

"I thought I knew what I wanted. What I needed." Arya said speaking softly. "Thor was there when I was in my most vulnerable sense of self. He picked up the broken pieces of my dead human heart and healed it anew." She said not removing her eyes from his. He made no show of emotion as he listened to her speak. Arya stood and removed the blanket from her shoulders. The chill hitting the bare skin of her arms. Her t-shirt slightly wrinkled from her lounging that day. Her hair fluttered around her as she stepped down the porch and stopped a few feet away from Loki. "You were always there. Watching over me. Wanting to tell me, but never hindering your brother's relationship. I see it now. I see you." She said and Loki clenched his jaw, anxiously waiting to hear her next words. Arya took another step and closed the gap between them. She placed her hands on either side of his face and looked up at him. "Your eyes are so green." She said and smiled softly.

Time stopped. The wind whirled. The sun set slower. The birds stopped chirping. The air grew warm.

Loki removed Arya's hands from his face and kissed her. Their skin like hot coals and their lips twin flames finally igniting after millennia extinguished.

"Until the end." Loki whispered after their faces parted. Arya said nothing as she gripped her hand in his and lead him to her home.
