Sisters
Arya sat in the break room exhausted after a long ten hour shift at the hospital. Two other trauma's with animal bites came into the emergency the same night. And while Arya knew that was a complete lie she kept it together. There was only one person she knew she could trust with this information. Her older sister, Jane.
Arya stepped outside the back door to the break room and looked around, no one in sight. She scrolled through her contacts and tapped on Jane's name. She held the phone to her ear and patiently waited while it rang. On the third ring Jane picked up.
"What a surprise." Jane's voice said through the phone, Arya sighed.
"I know it's been a while..." Arya start but trailed off.
"Since the funeral." Jane said and Arya squeezed her eyes shut trying not to remember the pain of losing her parent's again.
"Can we not talk about mom and dad right now? I just... I just need to ask you something." Arya said and Jane paused.
"Go ahead."
"Have you been tracking the animal attacks in town lately?"
"Yes."
"So you are aware of them."
"I am."
"Okay, good. Should I tell Tony?"
"I'm already on it. Darcy and I are on our way to town. Should arrive by the morning." Jane explained and Arya nodded to herself. She knew her sister would already be aware of what was going on, but she needed an excuse to talk to her. She missed her.
"Do you need a place to stay?"
"Staying with Erin."
"Erin's place is too small. Stay with me, please." Arya said. She didn't intend on inviting her sister and her work partner to stay with her but she felt the opportunity to spend time with her present itself, so she took it. When Jane didn't respond right away Arya spoke again. "I'll have Erin come over too. It will be like old times, but with Darcy too. Okay?"
"Okay. See you in a few hours." Jane said then hung up the phone.
A few hours later Arya was pacing her bedroom floor. She had called Erin and let her know Jane and Darcy were coming, but she didn't tell her why. But Erin knew, she always knew. She was smart, she often knew things before they happened. Sensed them in a way.
A knock came to the door and Arya ran down the stairs to answer it. Jane stood at the door holding a backpack over her shoulder, her light brown hair in a top knot and her eyes looked tired. Darcy stood next to her with an awkward smile on her face. She waved.
"Hi!" Darcy said smiling wide, her glasses moving up her nose a bit as her face moved.
"You have a key." Arya said and Jane rolled her eyes.
"I'm tired." Jane said moving past Arya and stomped up the stairs to her childhood bedroom. Darcy mouthed "sorry" to her as she passed her as well. Arya was about to shut the front door when she heard a woman yell. She looked out and saw Erin waving at her to keep the door open. She had a massive food dish in her hands.
"I made lasagna!" Erin said passing her sister and heading for the kitchen.
"Welcome home." Arya whispered to herself.
