Chapter 63

The gang arrived at the beach out clove outside the Cradle. Collapsing to the sands, breathing heavily. Cira sat on her knees, resting back. She breathed a sigh of satisfied relief, tracing her thumb over her lips. Hanna rested in a one leg kneeling position. Searching the grounds with her eyes to ensure no one was watching them.

“Did we loose them for sure?” Kit asked, looking around suspiciously.

“We must of” Addams groaned, rolling onto her back.

“Don’t worry about them” Cira answered with a wave of her hand. She looked back down at the group and gave them a reassuring smile. “I took care of it” she locked eyes on Hanna and gave her a pointed look.

Hanna’s body stiffen. She pulled herself straight. There was a look in Cira’s eyes she hadn’t seen in a long time. A darkness she recognised well. One she used to be afraid of, but not anymore. She did not approve of the dark entity’s way of protecting people. Devouring souls because they threaten the people she cared about. Or those who get in her way. That’s not how Hanna deals with her enemies, but it’s how Cira deals with them.

Yet that’s the old way of doing things. Cira Sandra had changed, right?

Hanna thought she did. She watched the Devil grow a soft spot for them, her kindness and love shine through. So she gave her a look; a look that asked Cira if she killed them.

Abyss answered with a disgruntled roll of her eyes and shake of her head.

Hanna breathed a sigh of relief, they didn’t die, but Cira must of taken her pleasure through torture or fighting them. What could possibly had she done in the five minutes the group were separated.

The thoughts swirling in Hanna’s head made the girl defeat quiet. The Abyss’s head tilted gently to the side. Then straighten up and leaned forward slightly. Concerned for Hanna’s silence.

Hanna gave her a small smile and nod, reassuring the Devil she was alright.

Cira smiled and Hanna felt a gratifying feeling for how their relationship has changed since they first met.

“So why were they after you dudes?” Hanna asked, focusing on her friends. Tearing her attention away from Cira with much difficulty. More than she would proudly admit.

Kit scoffed, shaking her head “Not our fault they hate parties”

Hanna raised her eyebrow with a knowing smirk.

The look made Kit groan loudly, throwing her head back cursing “oh my god don’t do that older sister knows best shit to me!”

“What did you do!”

“Nothing bad” Kit answered defensively. She turned her attention back to the group. Hanna and Cira’s patience faces ordered her to continue and so she did, with a proud smirk growing on her face. “We found some stoner dudes struggling to light fireworks and gave them a educational lesson”

“In our defence it was a sad sight and they needed our help” Addams insisted.

“Desperately”

“So we gave them a lesson and those party poopers showed up to ruin everything”

“You know my son isn’t here, you may swear freely” Cira laughed.

“I know, I just like the term”

“Well I hope you didn’t do it for free”

“Of course not” Kit laughed. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a blunt. Holding her precious prize with two fingers tipped to the sky. “This right here” she boasted proudly. “Is how you pay your fellow rebels”

“Oh my god” Hanna laughed.

Cira beckoned the blunt over with a wave of her fingers. Once she took the offering, she held it to her nose and inhaled the scent. “Bless the hipsters, they don’t mess with quality” she handed back the blunt with a congratulatory smile. “Well done on the score”

“Only the best for my favourite people, right”

“Right”

“Do you even know how to smoke that thing” Hanna teased.

“Bitch please of course I do” Kit dismissed with a wave of said blunt. “I’m not a complete idiot” she remarked. She lit the blunt and took a deep inhale. Her composure was perfect for a few minutes, before she handed the blunt to her girlfriend, coughing her lung out.

Addams consoled her girlfriend, rubbing her back while she inhaled a deep drag. “Fucking oath” she cursed, handing the blunt to Hanna.

Hanna became suddenly overwhelmed with uncertainty. Should she actually be doing this. She looked up at her friends, watching the drugs start taking effect. So she rolled her shoulders and went along with it. She took a short drag, immediately coughed her lungs out and handed it to Cira.

Cira rubbed her back, soothingly as she took a long drag from the blunt.

“I don’t know about you girls” Addams spoke as she stood up, taking off her jacket. “but I’m going swimming”

“Hell yeah” Kit spoke, immediately throwing off her jacket as she hopped to her feet. Struggling to take her shirt and pants off before racing after Addams to the ocean.

Cira and Hanna laughed as they watched the couple splash around in her underwear. Cira turned to Hanna with a daring smirk, offering her hand. Hanna took it and allowed Cira to pull her to her feet. Cira smirked, then stripped off her clothes and ran to the ocean. Hanna followed after, removing her shirt and jeans, stumbling and falling along the way.

In the ocean, the girls splashed and laughed. Dancing in the waves and playing various splash wars. The girls were having the time of their lives. When they were done shivering in the cold water, they retired to the beach. Dressed and lit fireworks, collapsing on the ground watching the lights above them.

Cira and Hanna’s hands brushed against each other. It happened twice before Cira eventually took a firm grip of her hand. Hanna looked back and saw that iconic smile focused on her. Hanna’s eyes flushed gold as she turned away to the fireworks. Her angelic wing crept out and wrapped around Cira’s arms.

The morning came all too soon and the drugs worn off by the time the sunrise hit them.

Hanna woke to the feeling of holding someone. She reached out her hands and found no one behind her. She heard the rustle of feathers and her eyes shot open. She turned around behind her and found her wings had decided to curl around Cira while she was asleep.

Hanna started to freak out. It had been years since she lost control of her angelic self. Truth be said, she was glad it was only this. Her angelic side was not known to be affectionate, but she clung to Cira, keeping the girl warm and safe. A peaceful look over the wings, eyes closed, mouths slightly open and snoring. Hanna peaked over, inspecting Cira if the Devil was awake and she wasn’t. The Devil was lying on her side, curled and hugging one of the wings.

“ugh what a night” Kit groaned, yawning loudly.

Hanna startled from the noise, quickly withdrew the wings. The movement made Cira turn over in her sleep and she jerked awake. Looking around with startled, annoyed eyes.

Kit pulled herself up, shaking the sand from her hair. She turned to the girls with squinted eyes, looked around, then back to her friends. “wheres Addams?”

Hanna jolted upward and started looking around. Cira pulled herself up and started looking. Addams, their good friend was nowhere in sight. It was very strange for the girl to disappear like this. Hanna quickly moved to her feet, concern for her missing grew the longer she was out of sight.

“You guys stay here, I’m going to track her down” Hanna insisted, rolling her shoulders back and with drawing her wings.

Cira watched Hanna, relaxing back on her shoulders. She took a deep breath and slowly exhaled, with a half smile. An approaching scent of someone walking towards them caught Cira’s senses. She turned over her shoulder and spotted the distance shape of a woman skipping towards them with bags in hand. She smiled and turned to Hanna. “Before you fly away, you might want to give her a second”

Hanna’s face scrunched with confusion, she looked up and her face lit up. Approaching down the beach was Addams. Hanna sighed with relief.

Kit followed her cousin’s gaze and immediately leapt to her feet. “Ah nevermind, here she comes” Kit said with a gleeful smile. She took off straight towards Addams.

Cira stood up and turned her back on Hanna, watching as Kit ran to her girlfriend, amused. “well aren’t they a cute couple”

“they are very sweet” Hanna agreed merrily.

Cira turned to Hanna and asked her, with a serious tone rarely used, “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine” Hanna answered with a light shrug. Cira gave her a pointed look, such one that compelled Hanna to continue and so the Hybrid did with a nervous scratch to her own neck “I’m sorry about last night, I hope my wings didn’t hurt you or anything”

“Ah” Cira spoke, she smiled warmly, creeping closer to Hanna. “In that case let me reassure your mind and say your Angelic self has been very cuddly to me”

“Cuddly?” Hanna questioned surprised.

“Cuddly, you must have been cold last night and so naturally seek me out to help” she nudged Hanna playfully. “I found it quite endearing actually”

“still I’m sorry, I haven’t lost control like that in a long time”

Cira grasped Hannas hands and held firm, drawing the Hybrid’s attention up and lock with her eyes. “Sometimes we loose control of ourselves, this moment, take it as a sign your angelic side is not only comfortable to just be in our presence, but protective of us…I for one found it very calming that love and affection is not only steaming from your human side”

Hanna nodded. Then she frowned, scrunching her face for a second. “you reckon angelics can’t love?”

“they are beings of instinct” Cira comment. “I’m sure they can, but not for someone like me”

Hanna understood what Cira was implying, but she wanted to reassure Cira that was not that case with them. “Cira I-“ However she didn’t get the chance. Addams and Kit came sprinting towards them, forcing the pair to jump and focus on the couple rushing towards them.

“Parties over girls, our Sister Aunties request we join them for breakfast” Kit spoke, gesturing to the landscape behind them. Implicating somewhere, the Sister Aunties were waiting for them. It was both a surprise they were found and comforting they were inviting the group back to the Cradle and dragging them back into the welcoming safe arms of the Cradle.

“Then we better get a move on before they change their mind” Hanna answered and with that she started leading her group back home.

“On a scale of 1 to 10” Kit began and the other girls turned to her smugly. “Chances of survival when they find out what we did last night?”

“Still got the evidence?” Cira asked.

Kit cheekily dove into her pockets and held up the last joint. “so a 10?”

Cira snatched the joint and hid the item in her bra. “a solid 5 at best”

“I can deal with a 5” Kit chuckled. “Thank you for your service”

“Anytime Major” Cira joked, saluting her friend.

The girls laughed as they approached the tree line, where Sister Warriors started dropping from the branches, waiting for their approach.

Over the coming days; Hanna experienced more moments of the Angelic reaching out to Cira. The affection towards her friend was strange, but the sense of love dulled all dread. How could she feel otherwise when her Angelic side was showing such gentle, loving attention. Still the suddenness made her nervous. She will find out why her Angelic half is acting this way.

Whatever it takes.
