Chapter 46
The next morning all seemed to be well.
Kelsey was still a little unease to be around them, but the girl appeared to be happier. Whatever devils going on her head had left for new homes. This girl had suddenly transformed to a new person within the bar.
Outside the bar, the habits of the old Kelsey returned swiftly.
Lilith and Mary decided, with Kelsey’s input, it was safe idea to meet the rest of the Crew at Cats Cradle.
Walking to the gates, Kelsey felt uneasy. She walked slow behind the couple, she heard them speak, but wasn’t listening. Her gaze was focused ahead. To where they walked, to the people they passed and the hill they climbed to the Cradle.
“are you sure it’s safe?” Kelsey asked.
The couple turned to her.
“it’s safe” Lilith reassured.
“we don’t have to go if you are not up to the crowd” Mary advised. “No need to rush this, we can start slow”
“it’s okay” the girl replied.
“you sure?”
“sure”
Mary nodded and focused ahead. She began explaining the Cradle’s history.
Kelsey tried to pay attention, but she couldn’t. Not with the Cradle looming over their heads. Kelsey looked up and noticed the shadows of Sister Warriors patrolling the wall.
“sure Hanna will be over the moon to see you”
Kelsey snapped her head to Mary. “What?” she said confused. “Who’s Hanna?”
“Our niece. She’s about your age, friendly kid”
“okay, but why would is she looking forward to see me?”
Mary clicked her tongue, she looked to her girlfriend through a sideways glance. Mary turned her gaze on the kid. “well she’s always excited to meet new people, especially hang with kids her age” she said. “truth be told, she told us you were hiding in our bar”
“How?”
“Don’t know”
Kelsey nodded, then focused ahead.
The sun glinted off the church as they approached, the light reflected off the windows and hit the child in the face. Kelsey winced for a moment, turning away from the light. She blinked, then turned back to the light. To the Sister warriors on patrol. Suddenly she noticed the guns and her body froze.
Her lip trembled as she starred up at the Sister warriors. Watching the glint of their guns as they carried them back and forth along the wall. Her breath quickens as she stumbled backwards away from the wall.
The couple stopped in their tracks and faced the girl.
“kelsey?” Lilith whispered concerned. “are you okay?”
“no”
The couple raced into action, taking the girl’s hands and turning her away from the wall, from the guns. Then let her go once her back was turned. Mary knelt down on one knee while Lilith crouched in front of the girl.
“Okay it’s okay” Mary assured. “We don’t have to do this at all, we can go for ice cream and hang out back at the bar”
“what was it?” Lilith asked concerned.
“the guns” Kelsey answered ashamed.
The couple frowned. Lilith turned over her shoulder to the guards. Kelsey started to follow her gaze, but Lilith swiftly turned back and grabbed the girl’s shoulder with one hand. The girl turned to her startled. Lilith looked up at her and smiled apologetically. Removing her hand from the girl.
“are you afraid of the guns?”
Kelsey sniffed, she turned her gaze down to their feet. Ashamed with her own fear, she whispered her scared answer “I know it’s stupid”. “I have one, but when others have them…soldiers they…they…I don’t trust them”
“Are you okay with us having guns?”
“I wasn’t at first…but…but I’ve been watching you two for a while and…” Kit paused letting out a deep hum. “I trust you two with them”
Lilith sensed more to the tale then what Kelsey was prepared to admit. Lilith studied the girl for a moment. “let’s go to the beach, have ice cream for lunch” she insisted.
Kelsey jolted, looking up to Lilith shocked. “but the cradle?” Kelsey whispered. “you said…”
Lilith shock her head. “it will be here when you are ready” she answered. She stood swiftly and offered her hand to the girl. “would you like some ice cream and a swim?”
Kelsey smiled as she asked “Can I skip straight to the whiskey?”
The couple laughed.
“Not yet Kit” Mary laughed, standing upright again.
Kelsey turned to her, raising one eyebrow at the nickname. “Kit?” she asked.
“What you don’t like it?”
“No” Kelsey laughed.
“Well that’s the thing about nicknames, the more you hate it the more it will be used”
Kit laughed. She walked forward, passing Mary as she joked “Fine, old gal!”
“OLD!” Mary gasped.
Kit laughed then took off running. Singing “You can’t catch me Old Gal!”
Mary started her chase yelling back “OH YES I CAN!”
Back down the hill they sprinted, laughing as went. Lilith walked after them, shaking her head at their behaviour, but pleased they were smiling. She reached into her pocket and started texting the Crew the change of plan.
It took them a few days, but Kelsey quickly became comfortable in their presence and soon was asking about the others.
To start slow, they went to the beach. The Crew and only them, were already waiting for the couple and the girl by the time they arrived. The girl sticked close between the couple. Ready to grab their hands if meeting such a large group became all too much.
Ava was the first to spot them. She turned to the approaching couple. She smirked as she question “What do you have there?”
Lilith gave Ava a ‘Really’ glance while Mary raised her coffee cup and answered “Coffee”
Ava snorted. She turned to the girl and dropped slowly to her knees. Kelsey jumped back half a step, but no further. Ava smiled, she went down on her knee and titled her head to Kelsey with a soft smile. “hey kid, you must be Kelsey. It’s very nice to meet you. My name is Ava” the rest of the family moved over. Without looking, Ava began introducing them. “I’m sure Mary and Lilith have already talked about us”
Kelsey nodded.
Ava raised her hand up and started pointing to each member of her family, whilst introducing “this is Beatrice, my wife, my daughter Hanna”. At the mention of her name, Hanna skipped forward past her mothers. Smiling giddy at the new girl and her body jittering with excitement. “Our best friends Camila and Serita”
Kit peaked forward. She gulped and whispered a nervous “hi”
“Hi” the Crew greeted.
Hanna couldn’t wait any longer. She darted forward, a sudden rush that caused Kit to stumble back. Hanna quickly stopped and gave her an apologetic smile. She took a few steps forward and asked “do you want to play sand castles?” Hanna held out her hand.
Kit looked to the hand and Hanna. Studying both confused. She slowly wondered forward, raising her hand slowly till it brushed against Hannas.
Hanna led the girl through her family, closer to the beach. Purposely slow in her movements till Kit took over, leading them steadfast across the sands.
The family watched them past. Then closed ranks.
“You got a good kid there” Ava observed.
Mary turned to her friend and asked “yes, you can tell from one moment conversation?”
Ava chuckled, shaking her head “No, I could tell from all the updates you have been giving us” she answered. She turned back to the children and grinned, watching them play. “can’t believe Lou Lou was right”
“So fucking glad she was” Lilith comment, her curse surprising Ava. Lilith turned to Ava and saw the woman’s wide-eyed smile and quickly threaten “don’t you dare!”
Ava snorted, biting her lip.
Beatrice gave her family a sideways glance before focusing on the children.
“She’s a cute kid” Camila comment. “Has she told you where she’s from?”
“No not yet” Mary answered.
Serita turned to the couple and asked “Camila and I can find out if you wish”
Lilith and Mary stole a glance to each other, before focusing on the Nuns. “No thank you” Lilith answered.
“We’ll wait for her” Mary added.
“Fair enough, how is it having your own child?”
“She’s not our kid, she’s just a child we found” Mary insisted.
Serita smiled knowingly. “okay” she comment. She turned back to the kids as Lilith and Mary gave her a suspicious stare.
Back with the kids in question.
They could hear the adults talking, but when it came to Sandcastle building. Their voices were no concern. Kit, having never built a Sandcastle before, copied Hanna’s movements to the teeth. Her eyes narrowed and her tongue just poked out the corners of her mouth, to the left, for concentration.
Hanna didn’t mind being watched. She smiled as she worked. Making sure her movements were easily seen and slow enough to be easily copied. “Hows living with Aunty Lilith and Aunty Mary?”
“it’s cool” Kit shrugged. “so uh…” she trailed off, looking up. “what’s the point of this?”
“For fun”
“right” Kit turned down to the sandcastle and continued her work.
Hanna looked up, then stopped. Watching the girl work with curiously. “How long are you going to stay?”
Kit snapped her head up to Hanna. “Why you say that?”
“You’re thinking about it, I can tell” Hanna stated. She smiled softly as she suggested “Buuut if you have nowhere to go next, then you should stay here, with us”
Kit huffed with a tight lip grin. “And why should I stay?”
“Because I asked” Hanna chuckled. “But more really, please stay with us, my family are awesome, we could be the best cousins in the world”
Kit smiled, she looked back at the family. Watching them talk amongst themselves whilst keeping an eye on the kids. She turned back and smirked “I might think about it”
“Yes!” Hanna squealed.
“I said Might!”
“I’m still celebrating!”
Kit laughed, shaking her head. They continued on, building the castle one tower at a time. As the castle grew, Kit’s mind started to drift. Weather to stay or to go. She paused after a few moments contemplating her next move. She looked over to Mary and Lilith and suddenly, her decision was made.
Back in the present
The group walked along the path beside the beach. Heading for their favourite stop on the Hill. Addams and Kit lead the charge, debating loudly with Persephone on the school’s next musical production. A topic Hanna had no interest in, but listened cheerfully to their arguments. Her Cousin insisting their school should do Heathers while Persephone wanted Wicked. Addams, decided to play the sassy judge route, encouraging the debate to go on and on. Too wildly entertained by the argument to put an end anytime soon.
Hanna’s angel eyes perked up and darted straight for the beach up ahead. Hanna followed her angel’s sight and spotted Cira Sandra chilling in the sand, reading intently, facing the beach. The brunette smiled. Her eyes unconsciously glowed at the sight of the mystery friend. “I’ll be back, go on ahead without me” Hanna insisted.
“Sure dude” Kit replied cooly.
Persephone looked to Hanna and frowned, but Hanna merely looked to her girlfriend, smiling as she assured “I’ll be back”. She leaned over and kissed her girlfriend’s cheek, then skipped past onto the beach.
Persephone stopped and swung her body around. She followed her girlfriend with her eyes, trailing past her to Cira. Persephone suddenly sprinted after her girlfriend. “hey” she hissed lowly. She caught her girlfriend’s hand and dragged her sideways away from the others.
“uh hi?” Hanna whispered as she was dragged.
Persephone stopped, turned over her shoulder to Cira. Then back to her girlfriend with a warning look. “what are you doing?” Persephone questioned.
Hanna was taken back by the demand. “just seeing a friend”
“A friend?” Persephone scoffed. “No” she insisted with a sharpe shake of her head. “She’s not your friend”
Hanna wasn’t sure what to make of this. This new side of Persephone, she didn’t like one bit. She didn’t like the way her girlfriend seemed jealous of her being around Cira Sandra. Hanna wasn’t sure why, she thought Cira and herself were friends. “she is my friend only if I and her decide, the same goes for anyone else” Hanna spoke. She tilted her head down and insisted “I love you, any friendship I have with someone will never change how I feel about you”. Hanna slipped her hand from Persephone’s grip and cupped the side of her face. Drawing Persephone pressed against her. She leaned down, closed her eyes and kissed her girlfriend’s lips tenderly. When she pulled back, she opened her eyes and pulled back.
Persephone’s anger faded. Her face blushed as a giddy smile broke wide across her face. “love you too”
Hanna slipped away from Persephone. Sprinting to Cira. Persephone let her girlfriend leave, but she glanced at their friends for a moment. Then turned back to Cira and Hanna concerned. She trusted her girlfriend, that was undeniable, but she didn’t trust Cira Sandra.
“Hey!” Hanna called as she collapsed to her knees by Cira’s side. “May I talk to you?”
Cira turned to Hanna with a questioning gaze. She smiled, looking away for a moment. Gracefully tossing her book to the ground behind her. She looked up, leaned back on one hand. One knee rose up while her other arm draped overtop. She studied Hanna as she answered “You may”.
“Great” Hanna answered excitedly. “Well firstly I want to invite you to Casa de lobos tomorrow night. They hosting a Pride party and if you’re free, it would be awesome to see you there” Hanna requested. “No pressure at all, if your free or interested, then come along if you want”
“Hmm Perhaps I shall, since you asked”
“Awesome, now I need a favour?”
“Oh why didn’t you say so” Cira chuckled darkly. She leaned over and asked in sultry voice “what do you desire?”
Hanna gulped, suddenly overcome with nervous. She leaned over her knees and whispered her request “can you teach me how to dance?”
Cira pulled back abruptly, surprised by the request. She blinked twice and asked “pardon me?”
“Can you teach me to dance?” Hanna asked, more clearly and less nervous.
“Dancing?” Cira clarified. “Me and You?”
“You and I”
“Why?”
“Well cause I’m quite shit” Hanna confessed. “I want to learn proper dancing you know, professional type and every time I try I turn into a three legged penguin with a hangover”
Cira laughed at the image. Her genuine laugh made Hanna smile.
“Anyway I was hoping you would teach me, you know, help be less shit”
Cira hummed, considering the request. “Lucky for you, you have asked the right person for the job, I’ll help you”
“Thank you”
“For a price” Cira insisted.
Hanna laughed. “Of course, well come on then what do you want?”
Cira leaned over her, she looked over Hanna’s shoulder. To Persephone’s cold glare. She gave the woman a tight smirk, causing Persephone’s eyes to widen for a moment. Then narrowed warning. “Just one question” Cira spoke, unphased by Persephone’s glare. She turned back to Hanna and asked “Why the fuck is Persephone always glaring at me?”
“What?” Hanna asked, turning over her shoulder. Only a moment after Persephone looked away, continuing her argument with Kit. Hanna watched her group of friends confused.
“If it’s only jealously I understand” Cira answered, understandingly. She smirked proudly as she stated “With my many skills, my charm and looks, I’m a fucking catch”
Hanna turned back to Cira amused. She watched the red head wink at her. Hanna snorted, chuckling as she shock her head. “You’re ridiculous”
“The only ridiculous thing about me is how badass I am!” Cira insisted jokingly. “Seriously what’s her deal? Does she have the hots for me? Cause that’s very understandable”
“I don’t know” Hanna admitted seriously. “Don’t think she likes you that much”
“Why not? I’m a fucking delight”
“True” Hanna agreed with a light laugh. “I think you’re pretty cool, but hey don’t worry about her, she’ll come around or not. I think it’s normal sometimes for your lover to be jealous, at least I hope its brief. I don’t want her to be constant worried about who I hang with”
Cira pulled herself back, straightening her spine. Her smile faulted at Hanna’s confession. Still, as Hanna started to ramble about her relationship, Cira Sandra listened intently. Taking in every scrap of intel she can gather and more importantly, she didn’t let her disappointment show.
Hanna soon looked up. She chuckled nervously, scratching the back of her neck. “Sorry for the ramble” she apologised. “I don’t usually do that”
Cira reached out and grabbed Hanna’s hand. “it’s okay” she assured. “She knows you trust her and you…love her”
“Yes”
“And she loves you?”
Hanna nodded. “Yes”
“Then everything is going to be fine”
Hanna sighed relieved. “thank you” she said. “Thank you for listening to me and your advice”
“your welcome” Cira replied with a small smile. “I’m not an expert in relationships, but I get the basics”
“Well you seriously helped me out, after everything that’s been happening lately and all that’s happening since…”
Hanna trailed off. Cira frowned as she asked concerned “since what?”
“Hmm?” Hanna asked confused. Then she remembered and she explained “oh nothing sorry don’t want to ramble again”. Hanna drew herself away from Cira. Standing to her feet “See you at the party?” she asked.
“Wouldn’t miss it for the world”
Hanna grinned; she stumbled back. Turned and sprinted to her group.
Cira Sandra watched her leave. She reached behind and picked up her book. She looked away for a moment. Stole another sideways glance to Hanna. She watched them disappear along the walkway to the cliff. Turned herself around and continued reading her book.
First Pride Party at Casa De Lobos went off a hitch
Not only was the bar taken over by the entire Crew, but flooded with people. All dressed with rainbows and glitter. Dancing to Drag Queens singing. Red lights were changed to slow flashing rainbow light. In all the places to be tonight, this bar was top of Europe’s list.
Hanna and her friends took over the dance floor. The pop music filled their ears and their body. Persephone looked back over her shoulder, smiling ecstatic, but that all changed when she saw Hanna and Cira standing together laughing. She couldn’t hear what they were saying. She just watched them talk in each other’s ear, giddy. Then Cira burst into laughter and fell against Hanna. Persephone couldn’t take the sight of them being so friendly together. She turned her back on them and headed for the bar.
Hanna couldn’t hear much, but she felt someone leave the dance floor. She looked up and frowned at her fast retreating girlfriend.
“What’s the matter?” Cira laughed.
“Persephone, I gotta go”
“WHAT?”
“I’LL BE BACK!”
“You Better! You owe me a dance!” Cira laughed. She watched Hanna move off the disaster and her happy moved died at the sight of Hanna walking to her girlfriend. She muttered an irritated “fuck sakes”, shaking her head.
Hanna caught up with her girlfriend in no time. She reached out and grabbed her hand while calling “Hey Persephone?”
Persephone stopped and turned to her girlfriend, with hers brimming of rage, but rest of her face staying uncomfortably expressionless. “What!” She snapped.
Hanna frowned. “What’s wrong?” She asked.
“Nothing” the blonde huffed, she ripped her arm free, then made her way towards the door.
Hanna followed after, growing more concerned by the minute. “Well if you want to go home, then may I walk you home?”
“No, Wouldn’t your girlfriend to miss you!” Persephone muttered a low growl.
“Wait what?” Hanna sprinted past Persephone and jumped in front of her. Forcing the blonde to stop. “What are you talking about? Your my girlfriend!”
“Doesn’t look that way where I’m standing!” She scoffed, looking up to Hanna.
Hanna laughed awkwardly “is this a joke?”
“You know what fuck it I’m not in the mood!” She growled, she went to move past Hanna, but Hanna blocked her off. “Move it!” She growled.
“No, tell me what’s wrong!”
“No I don’t want to!”
“Fine I’ll talk” Hanna stated. “You don’t want me dancing with other people do you, don’t think I don’t see that glare every time I dance with someone who isn’t you” Persephone didn’t defend the statement. So Hanna continued, wrapping her arms over her chest as she did so. “It’s just a dance, it doesn’t mean anything”
“God your naive!”
“Hey!”
“It’s not People I’m worried about! It’s Cira Sandra” Persephone insisted.
“Why?” Hanna asked confused. “We’re just friends”
Persephone scoffed, shaking her head. She looked behind her and found the woman in question starring concerned. She scoffed and turned back to Hanna with a sneer “Does she know that?”
Hanna looked over her shoulder to Cira, but the girl’s attention was already somewhere else. Hanna missed the jealous stare entirely. She turned back to her girlfriend and shrugged “friends are allowed to look at each other you know”
“Not like that, not the way she looks at you!”
“Bloody Hell Persephone we’re just friends!”
“Tell her to back off, end it!” Persephone demanded. Hanna’s face fell gobsmacked. “You two barely know each other so it shouldn’t be hard, end it so everything can get back to normal”
“Why...Why do you want me to end a friendship? I can be friends with whoever I want”
“Please your friends with everyone, as your girlfriend just do this for us”
Hanna glared. She stepped forward and declared loudly “Your right I was your girlfriend, but not your fucking property!” She pulled back turned on her heels and marched for the door.
“Was?” Persephone croaked confused. Her eyes suddenly widen as Hanna reached the door. She called out a frighten “HANNA!” But it was too late. Her ex was gone out the door and left her alone in the crowded bar.
Cira pushes her way through the crowd and headed out the door. Following after Hanna. Not without one last warning glare to Persephone. Ensuring the blonde wouldn’t follow.
Cira found Hanna on the beach.
Bonfire was lit and the woman sat facing it, alone. Knees up and wrapped around herself. Cira never seen the girl so small and sad in her life. The closer she got, the louder her pained cries became. Truely it broke Cira to see Hanna this way.
Cira let out a small cough and asked “may I sit down?”
Hanna didn’t speak, but she nodded. It was enough response for now.
Cira took a seat on the sands, back to Hanna and pressed against her firm. To let the girl know she was here. She rested her head against Hanna’s back, turning to the stars and the rising smoke cloud. “You know I never really gave a damn about stars before I came here. Now I appreciate these little beacons in the sky” Cira admitted.
Her voice lured Hanna up, head tilted to peer back at Cira.
“It’s amazing how something so small can give one such peace” Cira spoke. “I don’t know what happened with you and your girlfriend tonight, but do me a favour. Forget about her for a moment and take a look at the stars” she asked. Hanna slowly crock her head up to the night. “Breath in that sea breeze and let those star light touch you. Let the darkness calm your mind and when the world’s problems fade away” she paused, turning to Hanna and remarked “Tell me what the bitch did now”.
Hanna chuckled “you have a weird way of comforting people”
“Don’t knock it till you tried it!” Cira laughed.
The Hybrid smiled at her own advice used against her. Hanna turned to the sky and followed Cira‘ steps to the latter. She didn’t believe it will work at first, but sure enough, it did. Her body relaxed against Cira. A long sigh escaped her being as she focused on the stars and the flicker of flames trying to reach them.
Cira Sandra didn’t say another word. She decided she wouldn’t speak till Hanna had said her peace. Cira felt the brush of warm fingers against her hand, reaching out for her. Then faintly move down her palm and held her hand. Cira looked down at Hanna’s hand surprised, then over her shoulder to find the girl still focused on the sky. She smiled, turned back to the hand in hers and held it tight. Returning her gaze back to the stars.
“I don’t know what’s going on” Hanna admitted, confusion and hurt so evident in her tone. There was no need to see her face, to see how the girl was feeling in this moment.
Still, Cira turned her head on her side and listened intently.
“Everything is becoming a we thing. We must do this, we must do that..but it doesn’t seem like everything I do for us by her request, isn’t actually…for us...I overreacted but it feels like sometimes Persephone sees me as hers, not as me” Hanna explained. She turned her gaze away from the stars to the flames. Watching them dance. “My parents taught me the difference between love and possession. My family installed that knowledge since I was born...lately I feel, like Persephone is trying to make me her possession.” She said. A low grunted sigh escaped her lips as she admitted “I don’t know”. “Maybe I overreacted cause she refuses to tell me what’s wrong and I tried to be patient and wait for her, but I...I don’t want to be someone’s property”
“Well that’s understandable, but why do you think something is wrong?”
“I don’t know. It’s probably nothing, but sometimes there’s this strange look in her eye and she pulls away. Maybe I need to be patient” Hanna spoke. She relayed the words back in her head, then nodded. “Yeah, I should apologise”
Hanna went to leave, but Cira pulled her back down with a sharp “absolutely not” Hanna fell onto her side, then twisted to face Cira. As the woman spoke while shuffling around to face her “It’s not wrong to not be someone’s possession. You’re right, I was taught the same thing. Your girl might not see the difference yet, but she will after tonight. If you want to apologise then do it tomorrow after you both cooled off and reflected on your relationship”
Hanna chuckled, shaking her head. “Maybe your right-“
“Of course I am”
“Jeez alright with the ego” Hanna laughed. Her eyes lit up gold and Cira unknowingly, melted at the way they sparkled. “Thank you, for helping me out, I know you don’t like her that much, but thank you”
“Your right I don’t” Cira pulled herself up onto her knees. She dropped Hanna’s hand and began wiping the tears back with the tips of her thumbs. “Now let’s get you cleaned up, now that we sorted your mess”. She paused, cupping both sides of Hanna’s face tentatively. “If we were lovers” Cira began sweetly. She leaned closer and continued in a soft whisper “I’ll never let us be each other’s possession”
Hanna was stunned by the declaration. She could feel what she thought was the angel feathers rustle in the pit of her stomach and swell in her chest. She didn’t want to explore this weird feeling in deeper meaning. She accepted the excuse of restless angelic. Starring up into those ruby glasses, trying to push pass the red to the dark eyes beneath.
Cira abruptly pulled back, leaping to her feet. She gave Hanna a over the shoulder smirk, then pulled out her phone and declared “Since we still got all night till you and the bitch talk it out” she spoke, opening up her music playlist. “It’s about time we danced”.
The first song that played was Pink’s “Get the Party started”. Cira dramatically threw the phone to the ground and started dancing. Hanna laughed, tipping herself backwards and almost falling over. Cira rushed over, grabbed her hands and pulled the woman onto her feet. “Come on live a little!” Cira demanded. She spun Hanna around, then dropped her hands and resumed jiving to the beat. Badly mouthing along with the song.
Hanna watched her dance around, moving to the other side of the flames. Before too long, Hanna started dancing as well. Singing along to the words. She jumped around the flames, throwing her limbs in every direction. Just letting the beat take control.
The girls often found the other watching from the other side of the flames. Every glance stolen, they laughed and chased. The girls danced around the bonfire, care free and happy. All their troubles soon disappeared in the darkness around them. Leaving it only them two, the music and the fire.
At the bar, the following day
It was late in the night when the tapping began.
Kit laid on her bed half asleep. She been trying to sleep all night, but when the tapping started, she started. Kit groaned loudly as she called out into the darkness with horsed whisper “it’s open Addams”
“It’s not Addams” Hanna’s voice called back.
Kit opened her eyes and rose herself out of bed. She turned to the window, by her bed, pulled back the blinds to reveal Hanna’s face. Hanna threw herself upright on her knees and moved to the window. Throwing the window open, she leaned on the sill and asked her cousin “what the fuck are you doing here?”
“Do you want some Ice cream?” Hanna asked cheekily.
“I’m getting a serious case of Deja vu right now” Kit joked.
“Is that a yes”
“Yes of course it’s a Yes!” Kit insisted laughing. “Now move over so I can get out!” Kit pushed her way through the window, hung one leg over, expecting a ladder and quickly pulled herself back when her foot hit air. She gripped the window and leaned down. There was no ladder, no way down the two-storey building without a rope. She turned to her floating cousin, to the angel wings digging into the side of the bar and stated with disbelief “you could have brought me a ladder!”
“Thought you might enjoy a midnight fly instead”
Kit snorted amused “Good thinking ninety-nine!”
Hanna helped Kit out the window. Securing an arm around Kit’s waist. Once Kit was fully out the window, dangling in air with only Hanna’s grip to hold her. Hanna rolled her shoulders back and her wings burst forward to full extension. She looked down at her cousin and stated “Hold on tight”
Kit did as instructed, holding onto Hanna’s winged arm with tight grip. “Dude if you drop me I’ll kill you!”
“Relax I’m not going to drop you!” Hanna laughed. Hanna let go of the Bar and suddenly their bodies started to slump sideways and started falling.
“fuck, fuck, fuck” Kit cursed as they fell.
Hanna laughed. She allowed them to fall one storey before suddenly her wings flapped and they were sent soaring into the clouds. Kit’s frantic curses turned into screams of joy. Hanna laughed as they flew around town. Darting through and around the clouds.
As they started looking for their midnight ice cream shop. Kit suddenly spotted two suspicious parked cars in the middle of an empty car park. Standing either side of a large group. “Wait!” Kit shouted, pulling on Hanna’s arm. “GO LEFT GO LEFT!”
“Ouch stop tugging!”
“Go Left already then!”
Hanna suddenly darted left shouting “WHERE!”
“DOWN RIGHT THERE!”
Hanna sighed, she flew them straight for the ground. Landing roughly behind one of the vans. They let each other go, sneaking around the back door and peering around the corner. To the group of people gathered. The teenagers watched the people confused. One man, Rovdjur, paced in front of the group, back to the teenagers and addressing the crowd. The others were split into two categories, armed guards and innocent civilians.
“You have all been selected for the most important mission of your poor pathetic lives and you say NO!” Rovdjur laughed.
Kit suddenly paled from the sound of his voice. Her eyes bulged, watching him pace back and forth. Her body started to shake at his mere presence. She raised her hand on the back door and gripped the metal. Forcing the edge to cut into the palm of her hand. Her blood dripping slow down the black paint.
Hanna turned to her cousin concerned “kit?”
She didn’t answer.
“Kit it’s going to be okay”
“Well come on then!” Rovdjur spat. “Indulge me! Tell me why you are refusing my gift”
One man wondered out of the crowd. A tourist from his dress, long pale cloth clothing too cold for this summer town. Sweat dripped thickly in his clothes and through his hair. His family, wife and two children, tried pulling him back, but he didn’t yield to their touch. “we paid for you to take us to safety” he begged. “not this”
Rovdjur tilted his head to the side and laughed. “You paid for my guidance, I say go here so you go!”
“No” the man spoke.
“No?”
“No, we paid for freedom, we sold everything we have and you keep taking more, please let us go”
Rovdjur tsked, shaking his head. “not everything” he comment.
The man paled as he asked fearfully “what?”
“Not. Everything” Rovdjur answered with a dark laugh. He wondered forward a few steps while saying “If you truly wanted freedom, you would have sold me your very beings. Do you realise how much money I can get for human organs these days?”
The older man stumbled back into his family. His arms reached out for his family, holding himself protectively in front of his while they gripped onto him for dear life.
“Well I’ll tell” Rovdjur stated darkly. “Selling a full body of fresh, relatively healthy organs, is worth more then your gold. People are worth more dead then alive and since you decide not to accept my generous offer of work and rent-“
“Slavery!” the family man shouted angrily. “The others told me about your deals and this salvation! You force them to work till they drop and steal every coin they earn or else you will kill them!”
Rovdjur stopped in place. “Oh, so you know what comes next” Rovdjur took out his gun and fired one bullet into the man’s head. The man collapsed into his family’s arms, dragging them down to the ground, screaming. The rest of the civilians fell to their feet, hands protectively wrapped around each other and crying out into the night. “SHUT UP!” Rovdjur shouted and they fell silent. “DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE A PROBLEM!” no one responded, so he pointed the gun to a little boy and suddenly the crowd started crying out mercy pleas to save him.
“motherfucker” Hanna cursed. She turned to Kit and frowned at how still her cousin was. “Kit, get out of here now” Hanna whispered in her ear.
One of the guard’s head swung towards their door. The guard didn’t speak, dark cloth bandana over half their face and hood drawn over the rest. The guard watched them for a moment, then turned back to Rovdjur and the group. Slowly inching their way towards the van, priming their gun as they moved.
“kit go tell our family, sound the alarm, just get out of here!” Hanna begged. Again, Kit didn’t move. “Okay, that’s okay, we’ll go together and-“
Suddenly Kit darted forward, throwing the van shut as she sprinted for Rovdjur. Ripping out a knife as she ran. Kit raised the knife with both hands, above her head and thrust downward.
Rovdjur caught her knife by the handle and twisted his body to face her. One look into his eyes and the man smiled, a soft pleased chuckle escaped his throat. “Hello daughter” he greeted.
“Fuck!” Hanna cursed and sprinted after her friend.
The guards only paid Kit a second of their time before they focused on Hanna.
There was only one man behind Kit. Hanna charged at him first. She ripped out her knife and threw it for his temple. The knife’s guard slammed into man’s head bringing him down to his knees. As the knife ricocheted back, Hanna jumped up and kicked the knife to the next guard on the right. Twisted mid-air and brought her foot across the man’s face. Snapping his neck and falling sideways to the ground. The knife flew across the space straight for the second guard and into his face, bringing the man down on his knees. The others split into two groups, two rushed forward and another two stood still and started to fire. Hanna rushed the others, her angel arm exploded outright.
The hooded guard did neither. They stayed back and surveyed what was going on. Whilst reaching into their pocket and sneakily sending a message out.
Meanwhile, Kit bared her teeth at the man and angrily declared “I’m not your fucking daughter!”
“Oh darling” he laughed surprised. “You can’t deny that more then me, I was there for all the crucial moments. Creation and birth!”
“Still doesn’t make you my father!”
“Then who was it that comfort you through your nightmares, who raised you from birth. Taught you to rule, to fight, to kill. Tell me who shaped you into a warrior Queen”
“SHUT UP!”
“And now look how you have fallen!” he stated, disappointed. “look at you now, I’m very disappointed in you daughter”
“Fuck off!” She cursed. She tried to force the blade down into his chest, but the knife wouldn’t budge. She tried and tried to force the knife down. With his grip on the handle, it kept the blade from touching his skin. She threw her head back and cursed aloud “Why won’t you FUCKING DIE!”
Rovdjur’s laughter bellowed madly. He leaned down and stated “Because”. He forced his forehead down on hers, she bucked from the collision and fell to her knees. She raced up again, only to be backhanded. She fell back, clutching at her nose with a pain hissed. She looked up and shuddered under his crazed smile “I. Am God!”
The hooded guard stormed up to Rovdjur and pressed a shotgun to his back. “Drop it!” a female voice demanded.
He turned his head suspiciously to the guard. “Who the fuck are you?”
The hooded guard pushed the gun into his spine. “Drop it!”
Rovdjur laughed. He looked sideways to find his guards have all been either knocked out or dead. He huffed annoyed. “must I do everything around here”
Suddenly Rovdjur lashed out, he swiped his leg behind the guard and pulled her leg forward. The guard dropped to the ground and he quickly turned, punched her in the face, knocking the guard out. He ripped the gun from her grasp as Kit launched herself upright. He whacked her in the face with the butt of the gun. Turned to Hanna and fired one shot into her chest.
The bullets shred through Hanna’s clothes and chest. The teenager fell backwards and hit the ground hard. Her world fell into darkness almost immediately. The last voices she heard was Rovdjur ordering “GET UP AND MOVE OUT!” while two more ladies called out her name.
