Chapter 8
Thanks to Faith, the gold bracelet found allowed Hanna to travel outside of Cats Cradle.
First point of call for the Crew was to setup Hanna’s room. Starting with the Hanna’s bed. They found themselves standing in front of a dozen cots. All look the same, except different materials.
“How are you supposed to choose this stuff?” Ava complained. “They all look the same”
“Maybe you have to try them out?” Mary suggested.
“Well these two seem to be a reasonable price” Bea advised, pointing to two wooden cotes. “One is cheaper if we assemble it ourselves”
“If you can’t assemble a cot, then you can turn in your warrior badge” Lilith advised.
"That's an interesting way to test the new recruits" Serita laughed.
“Well lets how they feel” Ava stated, she pushed past the group and lowered Hanna into the first cot. The baby giggled at the bed, rolling round, her attention was focused solely on Bea and Ava. “I don’t know guys I don’t think she looks comfortable”
“She probably saw the price” Mary pointed out.
“How about the other one?” Camila asked.
Ava hummed, picking up Hanna and carrying her to the slightly paler oak cot.
“I don’t know sweetie, the sheets look old” Serita pointed out.
Camila shrugged. “Well we can change them”
“True”
“Alright guys attempt two” Ava stated as she lowered Hanna into the cot. Again Hanna seemed to move around, but still focused on her adoptive mothers.
“Possibly not?” Ava shrugged uncertain.
Bea hummed then moved away, looking through the isles of cots before she stopped at a black metal one. “how about this one?” she offered.
“Okay” Ava spoke, picking up the baby and skipping over.
The others turned to Bea with a questioning eye.
“Black?” Camila questioned uncertain.
“Looks comfy” Bea shrugged.
“The sheets look better” Serita answered.
“The price isn’t bad” Mary offered.
“And the size is decent for a small human” Lilith comment.
Mary turned to her and laughed. “Well for a baby yes, but a small human we need further testing”
Lilith grinned down at her lover. “I agree”
The lovers turned to Camila as Mary stated “Hey Cam how about you test this one out!”
Camila scoffed at her friends. “Only after Hanna approves it”
“Alright ladies, test time” Ava announced as she lowered Hanna to the bed. Hanna rolled around on the bed, giggling happily, then turned away from her parents inspecting the cot with a pleased smile. “There we go ladies we have a winner!”
The crew cheered.
Ava chuckled, turning to Bea “Seems she takes after you all ready” she stated proudly.
“She has good taste” Bea laughed.
Ava laughed “That she does” She picked up Hanna into her arms. “You reckon we could get a deal with the sheets, they don’t look too bad with the cot”
“Well we have Lilith, Mary and Serita, I’m sure those three could get us a deal for Hanna”
“Speaking of the cot” She handed the baby to Bea, then gripped the cot with both hands. “Let’s just make sure it’s actually comfortable and not cause she’s two seconds from falling asleep” She pulled herself up and over, flopping gently into the bed with her legs pressed upright in the air on the back end of the cot. “Oh yeah” she sighed, wiggling herself in the mattress. Pulling her arms under her head. “This is the life”
“My love I’m not getting another cot” Bea stated.
“That’s fine, it’s pretty comfy” she stated. Ava hauled herself out of the cot, then skipped to the other side beside Bea. "But the one at home is more comfortable with you in it" she suggested with a sly wink and nudge with her hip.
Beatrice laughed shaking her head. "What am I going to do with you" she sighed playfully.
"Sorry babe no returns no receipts!"
Beatrice hummed, grinning merrily "wouldn't have it any other way"
Ava grinned bright at her lover. She leaned up and kissed her cheek before addressing the group. Watching them look around the store. “Alright ladies, what’s next on the list?”
“Clothes, toys, food supplies” Mary answered.
“Good we’re on a roll, let’s go” she grabbed Bea’s hand and started dragging her away. The others following behind.
