First Day - Peter Parker
To say she hated the first day was a very literal understatement. The first day of any year in high school was the sad reality of summer being over. No more sleeping 'til 3 a.m. and waking up around 12 p.m., no more lazy Mondays or Tuesdays, or any day of the week. The first days were so disliked (among many) because they were the official introduction to a brand new year that everyone seemed so ecstatic about for some odd reason. It was the first few days when everyone came prepared and ready to compare schedules with all their friends and see what classes they had. Not only that but being someone with pretty bad social anxiety made anyone understand why the first day always left a sour taste in her mouth. On the bright side though, it was finally senior year and then she'd finally be free. Something she highly looked forward to from the beginning of high school.
Y/n took a deep breath and pushed through a crowd of guys, barely making it to irst period before the bell rang right as she walked in. The air caught in her lungs briefly as she noticed all the people in the room. Her fingers started slightly twitching when she looked around to find a seat. After finally sitting down towards the back, Y/n pulled out her phone to mindlessly scroll on the phone before class started. After liking a few posts and sending some to her sister, the teacher finally walked in with a bright smile. She set down a stack of giant flashcard type-things and loudly clapped her hands to get the class's attention.
" Good Morning class, and welcome to Algebra 2! My name is Mrs. Walker and I will be your Algebra teacher for the rest of the year. " It was really such a wonder how enthusiastic teachers were so early in the morning. It was just what Y/n liked to call First Week Syndrome; where teachers were friendly for the first week since the principal and APs were always coming into the classes at the beginning of the school year, but as soon as the second week hits their politeness is gone and they're just their regular grumpy selves.
" Today we're going to get to know each other " There it is. The number 1 reason why you hate the first day. " You guys are going to partner up with the person next to you and use the questions on these flashcards to get to know each other. I'm going to go around passing out the cards and once you get yours, you may begin "
She let out an internal sigh and rubbed her hands on her thighs to dry the sweat on them when the teacher dropped the flashcards on the desk after flashing her a bright smile. After fidgeting with her fingers for a little, Y/n finally got the courage to turn to her partner who was already looking at her and seemed just as nervous.
The thought made her feel a little better.
He had soft brown hair and warm brown eyes that reminded her of something sweet. You couldn't quite place your finger on it, however, if one thing was for sure; it was that he was definitely not bad on the eyes.
" Hey uh, my name's Peter. Nice to meet you " Her shoulders visibly relaxed after hearing him start the conversation. It made her feel a lot less anxious, so she introduced herself and so began the conversation.
Towards the front of the class, a group of girls gave them weird looks for talking too loudly. It was one of those moments when everyone is talking and then suddenly you try and say something quietly, yet the crowd goes quiet at the wrong time and what you said comes out super loud. Suddenly both Peter and her went quiet under the scrutinizing gaze of their classmates.
She began to feel her palms getting sweaty again, but thankfully the bell rang. Saved by the bell. Y/n thought gratefully. As Peter and she made their way out into the hallways, they both suddenly started laughing again.
" That was so embarrassing!, you were so loud " He playfully bumped her shoulder with his and smiled charmingly. Y/n thought she could surely get used to such a handsome smile. They entered the cafeteria, and she playfully facepalmed and bumped his shoulder back.
" Ugh don't remind me. I wanted the earth to swallow me whole " He chuckled after both sitting down at an empty table and setting his backpack on the floor next to him.
" Don't worry, it wasn't that bad " She mimicked his actions and ran a hand through her hair, an anxiety habit she had. " Yeah sure, that's why you were laughing so hard in the hall "
...
Looking back at it now, thanks to Peter her ideas of the first days were changed completely. Her anxiety also improved, so now talking to others wasn't nearly as hard as it used to be. Y/n couldn't lie and say she wasn't a little anxious now though, as she waited for her new roommate. It was hers and Peter's last year of college and the first day was just 2 weeks away, and since moving out of your dorm she decided to share an apartment with a roommate for more space. The dorm was too small and her old roommate was extremely inconsiderate, so you were a little nervous for your roommate to show up. Your attention was brought back to the present time when there was a loud knock on the door. You fidgeted with your fingers after quickly wiping your sweaty hands on your jeans and working up the courage to open the door. When you did, you saw the last person you expected to be there.
" Peter?! "
He smiled and wrapped her in one of his famous warm hugs, which allowed her to unintentionally breathe in his scent. He smelled like roses and coffee. When he pulled away he handed her a bouquet of red roses and flashed another cheeky smile.
" Surprise! Are you surprised? " She stared at him in shock for a few more minutes and giggled. " Of course I am! " After much arguing, he let her help him bring in his two suitcases and they spent the rest of the day together, setting up his room. He told her u how he was living with Ned but decided to get his own space and how he couldn't keep hiding the Spiderman secret from him. How he was super excited when he heard you were looking for a roommate and saw it as a great opportunity.
By dinnertime, his room was done and his things were all in place, so the two ordered some takeout and watched a movie. Well, maybe a few movies. She was ecstatic and it wasn't like they hadn't seen each other or anything given that they both went to the same college and even shared classes together. It was no lie to anyone that Y/n and Peter were inseparable and the universe seemed to agree. After your first day of senior year, your friendship quickly bloomed and they became conjoined at the hip. they'd always hang out together for holidays, studying, or just anything in general. Once she started college they both did separate colleges for her first 3 years and he was living with Ned while she lived in a dorm. Regardless of how busy they both were, they always made time for each other which only fueled her feelings for him further.
Of course, she'd never say anything for fear of ruining the friendship, but the smallest kind gesture made her heart race. You looked up at him from your position on his chest and he smiled after pinching your nose playfully.
" What's up loser? " She rolled her eyes at the nickname and rubbed her nose in the spot he pinched. " Nothing spidey, you're just ugly " He chuckled at the nickname and pinched her nose again.
" Mhm, sure. Don't make me web you "
Maybe the first days weren't so bad after all.
