Cracked.
Rose. Rose was the rebel rose quartz who started an entire rebellion with her renegade pearl. The rose quartz that shatterred her "own diamond." The rose quartz that so many rebels looked up to. The rose quartz that caused so many of her own to be bubbled away by the diamonds in fear of the rest beinf as defective as her. Pink Diamond, she was the littlest diamond. The "silly diamond." Known for her temper tantrums, her constant begging of colonies until she finally got her one colony. Earth.
In all truth, underneath her short temper was a sad and abused diamond. A diamond who was underestimated by her fellow diamonds. All Pink ever longed for was to be given a chance. But the diamonds only saw Pink as a troublemaker. After she cracked her pearl, Pink never heard the end of it. They locked her in the prison tower for years on end until they finally showed mercy and let her out, throwing a gala on her release. They gave her a new pearl — this time with her gem on her forehead. Never would anyone have expected for this pearl to be defective. Never would have anyone expected for "Crystal Gems" to show up and threaten the Homeworld gems. Blue never once thought did these gems could hurt Pink until they did. Until she was shattered. But never did anyone expect for Pink to shatter herself.
Crushing the petal into makeshift gem shards, swallowing them in her mouth. Her pearl shapeshifting into the rebel leader, Rose Quartz, wielding the scabbard in her hands. And so the scene was set. One swing of thr scabbard, and the diamond was shattered. "Shattered." In "Roses" hands was the gem of Pink Diamond. Her Jasper cried out in the distance, horrfied at the scene. War was caused. Tears were shed. Rose Quartzes bubbled, the diamonds regretting not shattering the Rose Quartz as soon as they laid eyes on her before the shattering of Pink Diamond. And soon, Pink Diamond was just Rose. Living on what was once her colony, but is now just ‘Earth’ to her. Falling in love with human, after human, until she found Greg. Pearl and Greg fought for Roses attention snd and love, but ultimately Greg won. And soon, Rose... Became Steven.
14 years have passed since Stevens birth, years of happiness as a child with the gems and his father turned into years of stress from Homeworlds attempts at imprisoning and shattering him. Until this day. The Crystal Gems were under whites control, restraining Connie. White held steven in her hands, ready to rip his gem out of him. Connie watched in horror as White Diamond, head of all diamonds, proceeded to rip out Steven's gem. In the process of grabbing it with her nails, she made one wrong move and used too much force, cracking the gem. The only thing Steven felt in this moment was a sharp pain in his abdomen before he didn't. From his gem, however, was a light pink sphere of light that was continuously spinning. It flew out of his gem, hitting White full force while she was off guard. “Starlight? What is this!?” She screamed.
The gems fell out of her control, kneeling to the ground to regain themselves before reacting to the situation. White dropped Steven, who was thankfully caught by Connie, to the ground as she watched in dismay. “Steven!” Pearl, Amethyst and Garnet yelled out in unison. At this point, Steven was both fine yet not fine. He remembered what happened to Amethyst when she was cracked — her form was all over the place, then she poofed. Since Steven was half human, it would have been different for him. It could've been worse. It may not even affect him at all. “Its cracked..” He pointed to his gem. The light pink sphere continued what seemed like an endless spin. Blue Diamond picked it up, the sphere would have been floating yet still spinning in her hands. “Has this always been in his gem?” Her eyes moved to the pale, maroon and purple gems. “Ah- We.. don't know. We've never seen anything like this before-” Pearl had a concerned expression on her face. White had an angry expression on her face. She stomped angrily.
“This.. is completely stupid! This is NOT how any of this was supposed to go!” her diamond shaped pupils darted to Blue and Yellow. “And I expected better behavior from the both of you. We'll have a discussion about this later.” Steven got out of Connie's arms, putting a hand on her shoulder with a smile to express his gratitude before aiming his attention to the large white gem infront of him. “Look, White–” But White was having none of it. She waved her hand in dismissal. Prior to doing so, a white bubble enveloped the crystal gems and sent them down to the leg ship. Whites ship disconnected itself from the leg ship and set itself down elsewhere. Then, she sent Yellow and Blue back to their respective quarters. The gems, dumbfounded, blinked at each other.
“Did.. that really just happen? Is she letting us go?” Connie asked. “Is this some sort of a trick? She couldn't have just let us go that easily..” Lapis leaned against the wall, staring down at the floor. “Lets think of this as another chance. A chance to come back and beat her. And besides, Steven has to take care of that gem of his.” Bismuth pointed to his gem. Steven still had no side effects from the crack, but that didnt mean they wouldn't come eventually. Pearl started pacing around, thinking of solutions. “Steven has healing powers.. couldn't he just heal himself?” Everyone turned to Steven, who had been lost in his thoughts. He was thinking about the sphere — that couldn't have been normal.
Amethyst didn't sent a light purple sphere from her gem when she was cracked. Could it have been his powers in there? If it even worked like that. “Steven?” Connie placed a hand on Steven's shoulder, getting him back to reality. “Are you okay, Steve-o?” Amethyst chimed. “Uh.. yeah. I’m fine.. I think. I'll try healing myself..” He licked his hand and placed his healing spit onto his gem. He held it there for a few seconds before checking to see if the crack was gone; to everyone's surprise.. it wasn't. And that was a problem. “Uh.. guys..? It didn't work.” Steven kept trying to use his spit. Until Garnet grabbed his hand. “Don’t worry about it for now, Steven. When gems are cracked, they aren't able to use all of their powers without them glitching or flat out not working. This is most likely one of those cases.”
If it were one of those cases, that could mean Steven could possibly have a cracked gem forever. He may not be able to save anymore people from monsters anymore — he truly felt miserable. “For now, lets worry about getting home and hatching a plan to beat White Diamond. The next time we get in contact with Blue or Yellow, they just might be able to help with your gem, Steven.” Garnet crouched down to Steven's level and dismissed her glasses momentarily. “We’ll get through this. Although my future vision couldn't have predicted this from happening.. it did predict that you're able to overcome this.” Garnet flashed a smile at Steven, who smiled back. Garnet stood back up and ruffled his hair. “Now, lets go home!” Steven started piloting the leg ship while Pearl set a course towards Earth.
