lovers to enemies to lovers? Trying to write a sad love story, thought Yelena was a good character for it.  Please read this little backstory: This is way before the Black widow movie (about 3 or so years) and Yelena is convinced that Natasha is dead. There may be some spelling mistakes, I checked but i'm too tired to triple check.

Chapter 1

It all started 6 years ago, You were part of a Russian agency trying to take down their competition. The red room.
Yelena was sent to kill you and you were sent to kill her.

Ever since you both barely survived 6 years ago, You and Yelena both had one goal: Kill each other, at all costs.

Present day.

You had gotten a tip that Yelena was heading to Ohio, That was your chance to kill her once and for all. Ohio was a weird destination for one of the best Russian spies to go, but you didn't question it and got on the first plane out.

On the plane to Ohio all you could think about was Yelena, You thought you were the same. Both 2 people who needed something bigger then themselves at a young age, but you were never sure.

Gunshots were everywhere, all you could hear was screaming and crying mixed with gunshots. You were clinging to your mothers leg while she held your younger brothers hand, your father was trying to get you all on a train.

You were 11 and had no idea what was going on, and then you heard the worst sound you could ever had heard at such a young age. Your mother was screaming in pain. Blood was falling down her leg, she let go of your brothers hand and fell to the ground. Your father rushed over.

You didn't speak English at the time, but you could make out what he said. "No men or boys, and no women over 30." He whispered to your mother. He spoke in English praying that you couldn't understand but you could, and just stood there not understanding what he meant by it.

Tears were streaming down your mothers face, "Give her a chance at life, we are dead. But she isn't" Your mother said looking at the ground as her tears fell. Your father nodded.

"Y/n come here" Your mother gestured for you to come to her, you did. you could see a bullet had pierced her leg, It took you everything you had to not burst out crying. Your mother took your hand, "You are going to get on that train and never look back, You are going to forget about us. I love you my dear, but you must forget to live your life" Your mother said holding back her new falling tears.

You looked at your father who was getting your ticket, then to your brother before looking back to your mother. "You aren't coming?" You replied in your native tongue, holding back tears. Your mother put her hand on your cheek, "My Y/n is the strongest, most fearless child in the whole of Russia. We may be your family now but you will get a new one, With people who love you just as much as we do. And we love you so much.

Your father returned, "Y/n time to leave." He said. "I'm staying, I will not leave my family!" Your protested crying, Your father was no gentle man but he knew if you stayed any longer you'd be just as dead as them. "It's not up for protest, My dear you must go!" He said pulling you to the train. You stopped in your tracks, and turned around to your little brother. You knew he was going to die, but he didn't.

You ran and hugged him, before your father pulled you away. "We love you more than anything, Y/n. Fight my little firefly" Your father said referring to your childhood name. He pushed you onto the train just as the porter closed the door. You ran to the nearest window, "I love you!" You screamed through your tears.

Present day.

You woke up covered in sweat, You didn't sleep often but when you did you always had the same nightmare. Leaving your family.
You walked to the cockpit, "We there yet?" You asked.

"descending now." The pilot wasn't to happy that you said you would kill her whole family if they didn't fly you to Ohio.

"Good" You replied just as bitter as the pilot.

After you exited the plane and threatened the pilot one last time, you stole the first car you found and drove to the house Yelena was supposed to be at. You made sure your gun was ready when you exited the car, The house was rather nice nothing to special.

Yelena was sitting facing a wall, You pointed your gun right at her head. Before you could pull the trigger, "You have a family? Agent Y/l/n" Yelena's accent was piercing, like a dagger right through your heart. It took you a second to put her words together.

"No" You replied blankly, You now realise that the house had been ruffled through. Paintings were upside down and drawers were all over the place, Yelena continued to stare at the wall.

"I've wanted to kill you for so long, it's actually painful" She laughed, "Changed your mind?" You replied as you re-raised your gun.
"No, I just read your file." She replied, "It's actually funny, how I have never read it before" She laughed. "Weird, I have yours memorised" You replied again blankly.

"Stalker" She giggled.

"No, I just know how to kill someone right." You were about the pull the trigger, "(Your mothers first and last name)" Yelena said, no emotion to her voice.
You were enraged, you haven't heard you mother's name in 13 years. And you hated it just a little more that she was the one saying it.

"What did you just say" Your voice was out for blood itself, you moved closer to her. Your aim didn't leave her head, "Your mothers name. That was it wasn't it?" She said so plainly it was cutting into your soul.

"How do you know my mother's name?" You said with such anger in your voice, it startled Yelena.
"Hospital records." She said again so plainly it was cutting into you, "Your going to die for that" You said as you gritted your teeth. "For what? Saying your mothers name?" She was generally curious.

"Yes." You said matching her plainness, "If it helps you and your twisted mind, mines was Melina Vostokoff. I'm pretty sure she is dead." She said blankly.
"How can you be so insensitive to the fact that your mother might be dead?" Your voice powered by anger, "She gave me up to The red room" She said. "I was 6, didn't make the choice for myself." She said voice tinted with emotion from a faded memory.

"You came here to talk about your mother?" You said annoyed, "We know something, That your agency or the red room doesn't." She said smiling.
"Yeah, What's that?" Your still annoyed.

"7 years ago, when we were 17." She replied. You knew what she was talking about, it was a year before you were sent to kill each other. You were both stationed in Greece, watching over a drug gang. It was a small gang but they had lots of contacts, very useful for spies.

You were stationed for 6 months, best 6 months of your life. Because you had met the love of your life, a Russian who grew up in Ohio. There was an instant connection, of course you both used fake names and you didn't know that she was Yelena belova and she didn't know that you were Y/n Y/l/n.

You never talked about your families, but even though most of your lives were kept silent you both had fallen in love.

"That was before I knew you were on the opposing team" You replied, She chuckled. "Here I was thinking our love would last" She laughed.
"We were never in love, it was all a lie." You covered you sadness with anger, "ouch, I'll try not to be offended." She laughed finally, standing up. she turned to look at you, "Ah still beautiful I see" She smiled, that small comment could have broken you but you didn't lower your gun in fact you tightened your grip.

"I'm just here to talk." She said, motioning for you to drop the gun. "I'm not putting it down." Your voice was full of emotion and yet no emotion.
"Y/n" She said your name so slowly it felt like eternity, a bullet in slow motion ripping through your heart would hurt less. "I. Am. Not. Putting. It. Down" You matched her speed.

"Fine" She drew her gun from behind her, "Y/n, One of us has to die." Yelena's voice was full of pain.
One single tear fell from your eye.

"Sophie, Come on!" You screamed up for Yelena, You were at a rented house on the shore of a beautiful Greece beach.
"I'm here" Yelena replied as she pecked your cheek and grabbed your hand leading you out to the beach.

You kissed on the beach and swam all day.
The last day you spent together.

Just a distant painful memory.

Present day.

That memory beat the bad ones, she made your day brighter even though you hated her with all your being. You loved her with all your being.

"The red room is coming." She said blankly looking at your drying tear.
Your guns were pointed at each other.

Your hand went numb, and the gun fell to the ground.

Clank Clank.

It was going to be you, because you wouldn't be able to live with yourself if you lost her. As much as you hated her for leaving, you still cared in your own twisted way.
Yelena's gaze met the gun, Her emotion masked her gun still raised.

"Why" Yelena's voice was about the break, "Because I loved you." Your voice was gentle like in Greece.
"Loved, past tense" Her eyes met yours, "I said run with me, and you turned your back on me. I was willing to forget! Forget that you were Yelena Belova and forget that I was Y/n Y/l/n! I was willing to run!" Your eyes met the gun pointed at you.

"Do it" You said starring at what would take your life, Yelena didn't pull the trigger instead she dropped her gun. "Punch me" Her emotions again masked, "What?" You didn't know what she meant. "The red room will be here soon, make it look like I put up a fight" Her reply was straightforward. You stepped closer to her and put your hand into a fist, your fist met her face. She didn't flinch, she picked up her gun and shot herself in the leg, The pain she felt in her leg was nothing compared to her losing you.

"Run." What she said sounded more like an order, You knew that you had to run or else you would be killed. You hated that this was the second time you were forced to leave someone to die, The red room might kill Yelena for letting you go. They could never know.

"My agency when I started out was all I had, I was fresh out of a small town where everyone had been killed. Even my family. They are murderers, and they turned me into one. I thought it was a safe place, but in Greece? It was the safest I had ever felt, since I was a child. So thank you." You turned to leave and started to walk out.

"Find me" You heard her accent right before you walked out, "When you do whatever you have to do with your agency, find me" She said not sure of her words.

"I'm going to burn it to the ground." You smiled at her beautiful face one last time before disappearing out the door way.
