One Domino Falls—

The voices grew quiet and less as the week progressed. All of which, during that time was spent settling into your new apartment, or well— “flat.”

They became nervous about the furniture and interior you put in the once empty space. It was a visual, “I’m kicking you out,” notice. Your lucky and thankful it worked, at least for the most part.

A glob of shadows infested this one corner of the “bedroom,” a perfect place because the sun can never reach there and you also felt a bit— uncomfortable, standing too close. Which made you keep your distance for all of this time. A silent acceptance that these will be your “roommates” for some time.

DiNg!

You crane your neck to the right. The candles of soft scents relax with your lowering arms. The clump had even turned silent, leaving you to listen to another notification. There are little to few possibilities on who would even have that number — very few because it's your New York burner.

Talking about burner phones, you need to snag a new one.

You— look, answer — hm?

The white noise became loud as you place the candles on the floor, pushing yourself off the mattress.

You usually toss out burner phones before heading off to a new place but, New York grew on you. In a way, you’d like to think of mold while others see it as some nicer alternative. It wasn't the worse, definitely made you feel ‘normal’ with the different names that existed all over the large city but, you had no choice.

Now, a deep breath in, you flip open the phone.

2 New Messages from Y.

Then a heavy sigh out.

Right. He— and well another, have been messaging you since your disappearance in New York.

Matt won't tell us anything. But, that's probably why you only told him in the first place.

Just know we can help you if you're running.

You click your tongue as your features come to a calm. Matt was the first person you actually connected with in New York. Surprisingly, through Church... Not like you're very religious– you just found it refreshing to confess to someone who is sworn to secrecy. After all, if you chose to talk to someone else they’d probably get you thrown in a Psych Ward. You can't blame those people much though, they're just being smart.

Running... Wimp. You.

“Ah no? Really? I thought you were talking about someone else who is holding this phone.” You seethe at soul to your shoulder. Your response quickly sent them off as you make your way back to your mattress. The floor comes close as you sit, knees close to your face due to the lack of a bedframe. That decision happening to protect you from anything hiding under or being pushed off.

Another sigh wiggles from your body as you lay back, rolling to your side as you close your phone. The click of the tech relaxes your eyes to a close.

Six hours passed before you were fully conscious again. The moonlight had blown goosebumps onto your skin and stirred you to a wake, leaving you to lay on the single sheet. Along with an unwelcomed face staring at you.

They wailed, talking in a language that either you couldn't understand or weren't able to process in your dazed state. So all you did was stare, mentally glaring at the hot breath that blew in your face. The soul of the night are the ones you never want to run into, nonetheless wake up to. They're— disturbing. Graphic. Sometimes they can smell just fresh from the dead or like the Earth. The older they are the more well, down to Earth they are. Never wanting to chase after you in the chance you could see them but just accepting. But this one, my, who knows how many days ago they passed? No more than the week you've stayed here that's for sure.

“Hungry.” You mumble, throwing yourself to sit up. The sheet rippled through the body and caused its cries to stop. There it felt the horror of being phased through– of being nothing, at least, not anymore.

You spared a knowing glance to the clump of shadows before disowning the sheet and throwing on a hoodie. Surprisingly, you did not wiggle out of your jeans in the middle of your slumber. But, you also regret that with the new tension in your legs.

The smell of garbage made him scrunch his nose. His hand feels around for the specific shape as the shadow looms over him; Khonshu. The God was restless, nearly exposing Jake’s existence to Marc. An action that would've been successful if Jake hadn’t fronted and shoved the others into sleep. (A thing that Marc desperately needed with the way he's been running around.)

There! What you have in your hand has residue of the power.

Jake huffs, sending a glare to a stranger as he begins to reel his hand out. He was not enjoying the whole digging through trash ordeal but why did it matter? It didn't. He’ll just have to toss his clothes before getting back to the flat or Steven will question.

“A phone.”

The top had been snapped off, leaving it useless to anyone who’d want to pawn it. Possibly even him if he didn't think about flipping it over. The back seemed perfectly fine— meaning the SD card was safe.

The burrito screamed in your mouth at the first bite. You blowing out and slightly fanning the steam in agony. But my was it delicious. You weren't sure what was in it exactly due to ordering through the suggestion of a nearby whisper. One who sat, presumably, with his family to enjoy a late dinner.

It also really hit the spot. Whether it be because of the warmth or your mere starvation, you loved the taste.

As you enjoyed the hold of greatness, you were able to finally observe your surroundings. The souls lurked but so did the living. The lights were bright and laughter and joy were gentle with the late brisk. Definitely quieter than New York, which you can live with.

Phone...

“Hm?” You shift your attention to a slight left where you could see it. The body in the corner of your vision... They were nearly whole, solid— even with the bright lights you stood under.

Phone.

They repeat, harsher this time. The tension, which you could assume was a hand, grew around your forearm. The claws of bones dug phased through your sweater, burrowing into your skin.

“Dammit, get off.” You hiss, tugging at the force on your arm... With the power to see the dead, it also meant you had a weakness against them. They feed off of your life source when they know of your ability. Which allows them to do such physical actions to you.

PHONE.

It screamed into the side of your face. The sudden change brings you to this freeze. A shock.

“I threw it away...”

No...
