Family Talk
"Baby, tell me what you're thinking, please."
He's looking into her eyes. He has no right to look as handsome as he does upending her entire world.
"I- you're right it is a bit- sudden." Y/n breaks her silence.
"I know sweetheart but just promise me you'll think about it. I want to spend time with you and that won't be possible with me at the office all the time. I know you love to travel and you should be able to do that with your youth, instead of working all the time."
She guesses theoretically he's right.
She could see it happening; she could see herself cruising the Caribbean as a rich trophy wife without a care in the world.
She could see herself giving in to him giving in to this and the feeling of home, despite all it's unknown.
Or she could listen to the instinct that told her to run.
Jetsetting, globetrotting and afterward starting a family.
A family.
Y/n's imagination very unhelpfully shows her her an adorable baby boy with Steven's eyes and her own smile.
A perfect little girl with Y/n's hair and Steven's dimples.
Oh, God, she can't breathe.
"Darling? Are alright? You look pale."
She swallows it doesn't do much good. Her heart is trying to beat its way out of her chest.
She feels Steven's hands on her face, his voice sounds panicked,
"Y/n, baby, talk to me, are you in pain?"
She has to say something.
"I-I think I need some air."
He sighs and runs his hand down his brow,
"Damnit, baby, you scared the hell out of me. You're not having a heart attack are you? We need to get you checked out, I'm calling the doctor."
She covers his phone screen with her palm.
"Steven, I'm not having a heart attack. I was just- I just need some air and I'll be alright, I promise."
He puts his hand over her forehead again.
"I'm going to call the doctor, just in case."
He cuts her off before he can protest.
"No baby, don't argue with me, please. We need to take care of your health."
He helps her stand and leads her to the balcony.
She takes lungfulls of the air.
It's not that she hates the image. She couldn't even help but adore those nameless faces already but she needs time to- think.
She's always known that Steven would make a great father and that he'd be happy to have children sooner rather than later but she'd kinda been hoping to wait a couple more years. To build a career, work a job or two.
The future seems to be coming forward sooner than she thought it would.
She feels his arms coming around her, his firm torso at her back.
"Is it what I said? I'm sorry, baby. I didn't mean to shock you, I just- It's you. You're the one I want the whole nine yards with but, I promise, I'm not going to rush you. I'm willing to take as much time as you need until you're ready because I know you're going to be the best mother to our children, darling, they're going to be the most lucky little things in the world."
He can feel her heart pounding as he holds her, he regrets that he scared her. He hadn't wanted to say anything before because he didn't want to make her afraid of him. Of the depth of his love.
He does want to have children. Hell, he'd give them to her now if that's what she wanted but she's so innocent, young and fragile. He'd already taken his place in her life and could admit he could never let her go even if he tried. He could never forgive himself if he forced motherhood on her as well.
No, she'd be his baby until she's ready to give him more babies. He'd put all his focus in keeping her safe, happy, provided for and protected at all times.
His mind was already consumed with thoughts of her, anyway. He takes every pleasure in providing for her, buying her jewelery and flowers and spa days on his way home from the office. Seeing her waiting for him, throwing her arms around him in excitement as soon as he walks through the elevator doors.
Taking her with him everywhere because she's had so much more time to be with him since she graduated, time he can't stand the thought of giving up. Showing her off at the Office, the Mall or whatever fancy restaurant had ticked their fancy.
He never got enough of her, his obsession for her grew every day, demanding her presence and her attention. He needs her and he likes to think she needs him too.
She never shunned his guidance and his dominant nature. No, infact, she understood him better than anyone he'd ever known. Except for that stint with that idiot boy, she'd been so good for him. She let him make decisions for their wellbeing. She never hated him or called him a dictator or a control freak. She let him love her the best way he knew how, tried to love him to the best of her ability inspite of it all.
She's the best gift the universe had ever given him. The most perfect gift. The gift his heart had cried out for the most.
"How about this, darling, we'll revisit the topic in a year. I meant it when I said I want us to have time together, to just be us. I want you to know that you come first to me. Everything else comes second, okay? I love you so much, precious, so much, and I'll take care of everything okay? Just focus on me, on us."
He can't resist kissing her, kissing away the pale colour that had overtaken her face. He kissed away all her resistance until she was boneless in his arms.
"When you're ready we'll have as many babies as you want, darling. I'll have to get you a mansion with a big kitchen, huge yard, maybe a lake so our children can play to their heart's content. I don't want them growing up in the city like I did, I want them to have a natural home so they can grow up happy and keep their innocence like you.
I'll make you so happy, darling. I'll show you that everyday of my life."
