Part 4
F.O.W.L. Headquarters, shortly before the aftermath of Magica's Shadow War.
"Ugh, where am I-" Webby groaned as she just gained consciousness.
She woke up to find herself tied up in an iron chair. She quickly checked the surroundings only to see some sketchy equipment and boxes. She tried to reach the door, but it was locked.
Webby tried her best to remember what happened, when suddenly Bradford Buzzard came in.
"Greetings, Miss Vanderquack. Please refrain from escaping as each attempt to bust the door open or trying to untie yourself will be notified to the Command Centre." Bradford said. "I would like to talk to you much more, but unfortunately, nothing is going to come out of your mouth if I start asking questions. So I brought company."
"You're from Scrooge's Board of Directors! Why would you do this?" Webby yelled.
"Oh, Miss Vanderquack. I would like to answer, but I know you wouldn't do the same in return, so I would kindly suggest you to stay silent until she comes to your room." Bradford sniggered. "Which is someone you would know. After all, she's your best friend."
"NO!" Webby screamed as she realised what was going to happen.
The door opened and Lena De Spell appeared.
oOo
"Hey Pink. I missed you." Lena said with a wicked smile.
"Of all the people-" Webby panted.
"Shh, you have to wait your turn. For now, let me speak."
Lena began to talk with a smirk. It became her usual thing now.
"Webbigail Vanderquack, are you sure than Bentina Beakley is actually your grandmother?" Lena asked.
"O-of course! She raised me!" Webby nervously replied.
"What did she tell you about your parents?" Lena asked. "And you're not capable of lying, because we're friends, remember?" She laughed viciously and showed the bracelet.
"She only said that my mother was an artist and my father was a librarian." Webby replied, though still having anger in her voice. "That's it. Are you satisfy now?"
"Oh, foolish Webbigail." Lena said. "Your parents - and your sisters - are here all along, and you never notice."
"You're lying." Webby grunted. "You don't know anything about my family."
"I'm known to be Magica's spy, but I'm not used to lying, especially to my friend." Lena replied. "Do you want to see them or not?"
"I don't believe you. I can't believe you." Webby resisted from the temptation of seeing her actual parents.
"Too bad." Lena smiled. "You'll see them and your sisters anyway."
Bradford and Black Heron came in, along with May and June.
"No, it's impossible. No, no, no, no, no-"
"Why yes, Miss Vanderquack, it is possible." Bradford said. "And it's right here. You're seeing in with your own eyes, dear."
Black Heron continued. "Does it match Lena's description? I was an artist, and in turn Director Buzzard was a librarian."
"YOU'RE LYING! MY PARENTS AREN'T EVIL!" Webby yelled. She was starting to doubt however.
"Webbigail Vanderquack, I am asking you once again." Lena now demanded. "Do you still think that Bentina Beakley is your grandmother?"
"YES! WHY WOULDN'T?" Webby continued to yell at Lena.
"Director Buzzard, may I have Project 87's related files?" Lena asked.
"Sure thing, Agent Lena." Bradford smiled. "Here you go."
"This file is called Project 87 because it's related to a cloning project." Lena was now completely focused to Webby. "It's an interesting one, you should take a look."
Lena proceeded to give the files to Webby. As Webby read through the files, she was shocked by the details. F.O.W.L. had been retrieving genetic information of Scrooge McDuck to create a clone, and her name was April. However, the project was scrapped due to S.H.U.S.H. intervention.
"What does she have to do with me?" Webby asked.
"Everything." Lena replied. "Because, she is you."
Webby was speechless. That meant...
"You were created to help F.O.W.L. defeat Scrooge McDuck and his family." Bradford continued. "And with Black Heron's capability on this project, we did just that."
"I'll leave you here to rethink and we'll come back for you at around... let's say 15 minutes." Lena then said. "Your sisters would want to see you too. Can't miss that one-of-a-lifetime opportunity, right?" She made a wicked smile and left the room along with Bradford, Black Heron, May and June.
The door was locked and Webby was left alone.
oOo
"You know, Lena, throughout the time F.O.W.L. train May and June, we always let them specialise in one thing: insanity." Bradford said.
"Why?" Lena asked. "Doesn't make that harder for them to blend in?"
"Quite the contrary. By pushing the boundaries of their mental state, they can develop new emotions that will be hard to spot on, which in turn will benefit us on sending them for intelligence purposes."
"I see..." Lena said, suddenly realising something. "Wait, you aren't-"
"Oh, Lena, that is exactly what I'm doing to April." Bradford replied, his cold and mischievous voice revealed it all.
Lena smirked, knowing that it's just a matter of time before she gets Webby to F.O.W.L.'s side.
oOo
Webby read the files again and again, still in disbelief of everything.
Why? Why did Granny have to hide this from me? Webby asked herself. It's not like-
And she suddenly knew.
Mrs. Beakley was afraid that she would turn against Clan McDuck and S.H.U.S.H. one day, which resulted in Beakley never mentioning her parents, or, if forced, a sense of ambiguity in her description.
I was made to destroy Scrooge McDuck.
I was made to destroy Scrooge McDuck.
Webby repeated it inside her head, slowly getting more and more unstable.
I was made to destroy the McDuck household.
I was made to destroy the McDuck household.
At this point she slowly smiled, no longer being herself. The whole story she heard had been too convincing to deny, and she began to go insane.
I was made to destroy Clan McDuck...
I WAS MADE TO DESTROY CLAN MCDUCK!
"I WAS MADE TO DESTROY CLAN MCDUCK!" Webby spoke it out loudly and began to laugh uncontrollably. F.O.W.L. did what they wanted Webby to act on the sudden news she received.
She had gone completely insane, no longer keeping herself in a stable condition.
Webby was gone. The only person there was now April.
The door opened. Bradford and Lena went in.
"Welcome home," Bradford solemnly said. "April."
She turned to Bradford and gave him a sinister smile.
