weepin' in a sunlit room

"It’s too late. I’ve won, Charles.", the damned voice echoed in his mind. "No, no you have not won, not yet", his mind may have been invaded but that doesn’t mean they’ve lost. Not if Charles had anything to say about it. Charles let out a scream as Apocalypse lashed, his telepathy going haywire. Charles fell to his knees, finally opening his eyes to the horrors in front of him. His team, his X-men all lay crumpled on the sand, with the exception of Erik and Jean. With the power of Apocalypse, Charles could kill the entire world if he wanted to, and that was exactly what Apocalypse wanted. Charles could fight back all he wanted but he knew his control was slipping, soon he would be completely enveloped by Apocalypse’s power.

"Charles!", he raised his head from where it was buried in his hands to see Erik coming toward him. A sudden flash of images invaded his mind, a woman in red, her eyes black as obsidian, the world falling apart, metal breaching flesh, and a broken confession of love. There was only one thing Erik could do to help and Charles would rather bury the Earth than lay upon Erik that fate. He needed to end this, quickly. He clutched his head tighter as Apocalypse released an even stronger wave. God, he could hear the screams, he could hear the sounds of death. He wasn’t even aware he was screaming, he wasn’t even aware of Erik screaming his name either. He just wanted-no, needed for it to stop. Oh. Oh, that would definitely do the trick, wouldn’t it? He focuses on pulling himself away from the outside world, pulling himself solely into his mind. And then he pulls, he pulls his mind from the outside in, he kneels in the middle of his mind and pulls everything until it crumbles. Pulls every inch of his mind, until there was nothing left. In the distance, he hears Apocalypses’ screams, his attempts at stopping Charles but it wasn’t going to work. With the last of Apocalypses’ influence on his telepathy, he sends a whisper of I love you, into Erik's mind, bypassing the thick alloy. He pulls back before the thoughts of confusion and panic overwhelm him. He smiles, watching his mind fall into the darkness, bringing Apocalypse down with him into the abyss.

Erik watched helplessly as Charles’s body slumped into a lifeless heap. His mind raging from the words Charles whispered in his mind. He collapsed next to Charles, hands shakily laying Charles on his lap. "Charles? Charles, please, wake up, Charles", he clutched the cold man to his chest, whispering pleas into his chestnut hair. "Not you too, not you Charles, it was never meant to be you", he sobbed, rocking his lover’s body back and forth, his sobs echoed violently in the silence.
