Mistakes and Movies (part 1)
Both alphas were left to their own devices in the elevator where they stood staring at the open doors before them. The image of their y/n running from them instead of to them… it was a humbling experience to say the least. It hurt them both on many levels to know that they had been the cause, …. That they scared her. The stale scent of her fear lingering around them was like a hulk punch to the gut. It stole their breath away from them. They did that, and worse, they did that over something so stupid, something that wasn’t even their choice to make.
The demons of self loathing were circling them easily. They were both defenseless against them and the blows the alphas were taking were strong. The demons were clawing at them, drowning them each in an isolated puddle of inky black tar and they were fighting and struggling to get out and draw breath but they were loosing the battle from within. What had they done…
Suddenly Carol’s familiar voice cut through their minds making their inner demons hide away, for now at least.“Alphas we found something here at the mall”
Wanda and Nat shared a glance at the growl in Carol’s voice. Whatever they had uncovered was probably nothing good... or maybe in this case for their legal case it was good for them and bad for either the mall or Bane. Or just plain bad in general like a hidden explosive . Either way they were both curious.
Nat took in a deep breath and let it out slowly before she replied. “What did you both find? Are you in any danger?”
This time, it was Jen who answered “ I think it would be better if I showed you, but I I found something on the security footage. We got lucky, today is Bane’s day off. I doubt things would have been the same if he was here. We are going to go give that restraining order and then we'll head your way. I'll show you what we found before we settle in for the movie”
Wanda tilted her head to the side “ so this is good news for us?”
Both alphas could hear the smirk in jen’s voice as she responded “legally speaking, we have grounds to charge Bane with more than just negligence, I'll even be able to get us in front of a judge in the next day or two. Everyone loves a good avengers court case”
Both alphas smiled but it didn't reach their eyes, it was good that jen was going to be able to get their mate some justice and they were happy for it, but the image of y/n running from them was still to fresh in their minds and they felt like shells, hollowed out of the life they were supposed to hold, like walking corpses on their feet not truly aware of the world they were eternally doomed to roam on.
“Thats great news, good work, we'll be here when you arrive, and be careful”
“Yes alpha” was their reply before the link went dormant again and a suffocating silence wrapped around them.
Nat looked down at her shaking hands and hesitated unsure of herself in this moment and knew she’d be doubting her every move for a good while after she finally got off the elevator, but if she wanted to ever make things right, she had to start right now. “ I'm sorry wands i”
“No” Wanda shook her head as a sob wracked her body “it's all my fault” she lowered herself to the floor, knees to her chest, leaching distressed pheromones as she held herself.
The older alpha was at her side in a heartbeat cradling her mate to her chest and rubbing a soothing had up and down her back “ no no it was mine, I should have handled this whole thing differently than I did and I apologize”
The brunette shook her head. “ no, I overreacted, I was scared, so scared, I am so scared of loosing either one of you like I've lost everyone else that I” she shook in her mate’s embrace “ .. I don't want anything to ever happen to either of you and right after she got better your sister just throws a wrench and I was scared she’d get hurt again” she sniffed “ but I hurt her instead. I hurt her” she sobbed out. “ and you were right it's her decision not mine and it's a good idea I just..”
The green eyed alpha looked into her mates eyes, the eyes that could change from brown to green to red had always captivated her attention, but she always hated seeing them glazed in sadness “shh shh I know, I know, and no malyshka, it wasn't just you, it was both our faults my timing was off and I should have run the idea by you.. I was frightened to death that day in the mall for a split second…I thought… I thought we’d lost her…I thought I'd failed her. I didn't want that to happen again and that if it ever did with some training she could at least fight back for some time so that we could get to her. You can defend yourself when you're alone but y/n can't and we won't always be by her side every second...and then when were in that examination room…that time we left her sleeping while we went on mission came flooding back” the ginger haired alpha stopped her rambling as a hand made its way to her face. Then she found herself melting in a comforting hug as Wanda kissed her mating bite.
“ I'm sorry Tasha”
“I'm sorry too”
They stayed like that for a while, nestled in the arms or their alpha, relishing in the comfort and safety of the hold before they stood up hand in hand. They had a lot to atone for with Y/n, and they planned one doing it the right way, and sadly that started with respecting her boundaries and not forcing their presence on her before she could handle it and letting her calm down first. But it did give them time to strategize their next steps, including making this pack movie night one to remember.
