Overwhelmed
Few steps until the little stage the sorcerers made for the special occasion, you remember the deal you made with the demon. Learning and using chaos magic, traveling the multiverse, now becoming Sorcerer Supreme... Which one of these things Channok will see as the peak of your power? When will he take away your magic? You shake your head and take a deep breath before walking up few steps on the stage.
Briefly looking at the crowd, you notice Leta sitting at the front, looking a bit odd in the sea of grey and red robes, and America with Strange sitting behind her. You take a deep breath and walk towards Mordo, who's patiently standing in the middle of the stage. Without Cloak on your shoulders you feel exposed, much to Cloaky's dismay, you couldn't bring it to the ceremony.
Some murmuring is heard, but you pay no attention to it and stand straight before Mordo whose expression is hard to read. You bow to him, thankfully one last time, and fix your belt. Everyone falls silent and wait for Mordo to begin speaking.
"My friends, brothers and sisters. Today we gathered here to announce a new Sorcerer Supreme. My dear and beloved friend, my colleague and apprentice, y/n will take the title and swear an oath. For personal reasons, I will no longer own the title and leave the magical world, but I'm sure you all as well as the whole world will be safe in good arms." he says and takes a deep breath.
A round of shy applause is heard as every sorcerer finds Mordo's decision to leave weird. You steal a look at Stephen and America, both sitting close to each other and notice how the girl is holding the sleeve of Stephen's robes tightly.
"Do you, y/n y/l/n, accept the highest title of the Sorcerer Supreme?" Mordo asks loudly.
"Yes, I do."
"Do you swear to protect the Earth against any possible threats?"
"Yes, I do."
"Do you swear to sacrifice your life if needed in order to save the world?"
"Yes. I do."
"Do you swear to seek more knowledge and share it with the others?"
"Yes. Absolutely."
"Then I, Baron Karl Mordo, pass on the title of the Sorcerer Supreme to you, y/n y/l/n." Mordo bows to you and pulls the Eye of Agamotto from his pocket, putting it around your neck. Ironically, you haven't seen the relic since Stephen had it.
Everyone applauds you, and you turn to the crowd of sorcerers. "Thank you, for the opportunity to serve and protect you. I'll do my best to keep us in the level we are now and maybe even bring us up." you bow to the crowd and see how everyone stands up and bows to you, even Leta and America. You smile brightly and turn to go down the stairs. Sorcerers begin to leave, and you're almost knocked down by Leta's hug.
"I'm so proud of you." she sniffles into your shoulder, and you pat her back.
"I forgot to congratulate you with all this madness going." you say and touch her cheeks, "you're gonna be a great mom." she quickly kisses your left cheek and then lets you go.
"There's someone waiting for you." she says mysteriously, and you see a figure emerging from the sea of sorcerers, dressed in black, glasses resting on top of his bald head -
"Dad?" you say and run towards the man.
"Oh, my girl! I'm so, so proud of you" he rocks you from side to side, holding you tightly.
"Dad... I wanted to visit, but I'm sorry, I completely forgot, I didn't have time to even ca-"
"Shh, it's okay, I heard on the news what happened, I understand, don't blame yourself. You can visit me next time." he says, holding your hands in his, you notice that they are colder than they used to be.
"Friday okay?" you ask, wiping the tear that slipped away with the back of your hand.
"Friday perfect, kiddo." he smiles, and you almost break down into a sob.
"You're staying or-" you ask expectantly.
"No, I'm taking this beautiful young lady home, I can't leave Bacon alone for too long." Leta quickly waves, walking around the Kamar-Taj grounds.
You let out a heartfelt chuckle, "Bacon?"
"Yes, I have a dog, his name's Bacon. I think you two would get along, both stubborn and soft at the same time." you father smiles again and lets go of your hand, patting your shoulder two times. You're barely holding back your tears - it's been so long since you talked with him but you see that he might have returned to his old self and doesn't blame himself for your mother's death.
"Does... Does he like bacon?" you laugh, not really wanting for this reunion to end.
"Oh he loves bacon, you should bring some when you come." he winks and waves to Leta to go with him, leaving you alone.
"I could open a portal for you -" you begin, but he just waves his hand. You sigh, shoulders slumping, and you notice a relic hanging from your neck. You look around and see that the only people left are Strange, Chavez and Mordo.
"Hey, congrats." Stephen says and brings you into a hug, his lips brushing against your earlobe, whispering, "He's watching us."
"I'm aware of that look. Makes me sick." you whisper back and pull away, seeing how America looks at the two of you.
"y/n." Mordo says from the stage, and you pass by America, ruffling her hair.
"Go to New York, I'll be there soon." you say to Strange and walk towards Mordo.
"What?" you ask, climbing on the stage again.
"I'm leaving. But just want you to know. That if you need something, just give a call. I don't hold grudges." he says, and you nod to yourself couple of times. Mordo turns to leave but you stop his arm.
"I will. But just so you know. I do...hold grudges." you say silently and pull your arm away. He looks at you for longer than necessary and walks away quickly.
You look around - empty chairs, everyone has already left. You smile to yourself and with a flick of your wrist, all chairs fly one on another, forming a big tower of chairs, which you split into two and carry into a storage place at the back of the training grounds. Walking into the library, you take off the Eye of Agamotto and put it on the pedestal, watching how the Time Stone inside opens and closes, shining a bright green light on you for a moment.
You take one last look and walk through one of the three doors into New York Sanctum, hearing America's giggling and Strange's laugh in the lobby.
"What's so funny?" you ask, and see them sitting on the little sofa, your reading glasses on the tip of America's nose, hanging onto their lives. You have to admit, she does look ridiculous.
"I'm undercover now, bet you can't tell who I am." America mocks deep voice and bursts into laughter again. The scene is so heartwarming and so domestic that your heart swells at the sight.
"Okay, secret agent, you want some tea?" you laugh and turn towards kitchen.
"Yep!" America says and gets up, Stephen lingers on the sofa a moment longer.
"You can go to my room, I'll put on the kettle." you say and go, walking into the kitchen you don't put the kettle right away. Instead, you grip the edge of the cupboard and close your eyes.
"Everything okay?" Stephen's voice rings in the small space. You don't open your eyes, but for a second pretend that it's your Stephen talking to you after a long day. Unfair, but you just can't help. Opening your eyes, you wish to see him standing in his baggy pants and worn out shirt he bought back in university. Instead, you meet the worried eyes of the other Stephen, still wearing grey robes, nearing you.
"Yeah... Just… Overwhelmed by everything... Never has my day been so eventful like this one. Well, except for that one where I was running from an angry witch." you smile, Stephen's lips twitch as well.
He comes closer and brings you into a hug, your head lying on his chest, his hands lovingly push your back into him. After the longest moment, you pull away, and he kisses your forehead, brushing the strand of your hair away from your eyes.
No words were uttered, but no words were even needed for that.
"Go to my room, I'll be right back." you whisper, slightly pushing Strange out of the kitchen.
He nods and leaves. You hear his footsteps descend and turn on the kettle, leaving the kitchen as well.
