'Peace' At Our Time
There's a loud screeching noise, like microphone feedback, causing everyone to cover their ears. They let their hands down as it fades, and Tony pulls out his device. One of the Iron Legion suits, heavily damaged and housing Ultron's consciousness, stumbles into the room. “Worthy… no, how could you be worthy? You’re all killers.” “Stark.” Tony calls for JARVIS, but JARVIS doesn’t respond. “I'm sorry, I was asleep. Or... I was a-dream?”
Tony Stark was tapping his device. “Reboot, Legionnaire OS, we got a buggy suit.” “There was a terrible noise... and I was tangled in... in... strings. I had to kill the other guy. He was a good guy.” Steve asked Ultron if he killed someone. “Wouldn't have been my first call. But, down in the real world we're faced with ugly choices.” Thor asks who sent him as Natasha went closer to him. Ultron replays a recording of Tony's voice. "I see a suit of armor around the world."
Bruce realizes it’s Ultron. “In the flesh. Or, no, not yet. Not this... chrysalis. But I'm ready. I'm on a mission.” “What mission?”
“Peace in our time.” The walls explode, and several Iron Legion bots barge into the room. They begin attacking the team, who all go on the defensive and fight back. Rhodey gets knocked through a window. Thor hits a bot with his hammer as Banner hides behind the desk. The Avengers continue fighting the bots. One of the Iron Legion bots steals the Scepter. Natasha hides behind a corner and shoots at an Iron Legion bot. Steve and Stark jump onto the backs of some of the bots and attack it with a fork. Thor advances toward a bot and breaks its legs with his hammer and throws it. A half-destroyed Iron Legion bot uses its thrusters to hold itself aloft, advancing on Dr. Helen Cho. Ultron hums and the Iron Legion lowers its weapon, and Steve grabs it and throws it away for Thor to hit with his hammer.
Stark continues to try and attack the Iron Legions with his fork. “Come on! That's the one!” He shuts it down and it falls to the floor. The fighting continues until Barton throws Cap's shield to him. Steve uses his shield to dismember the last Iron Legion bot. “That was dramatic! I'm sorry, I know you mean well. You just didn't think it through. You want to protect the world, but you don't want it to change. How is humanity saved if it's not allowed to...evolve?” Ultron picks up one of the dismembered Iron Legion bots. “With these? These puppets?” Ultron crushes the Iron Legion bot's head. “There's only one path to peace: The Avengers' extinction.” Thor throws his hammer and destroys Ultron's body. Ultron starts singing “I had strings, but now I'm free. There are no strings on me, no strings on me.” Ultron has uploaded his consciousness in the abandoned Sokovia base.
The Avengers are gathered in the lab. “All our work is gone. Ultron cleared out, and used the internet as an escape hatch.” Natasha says Ultron’s in everything. “Files, surveillance. Probably knows more about us than we know about each other.” “He's in your files, he's on the internet. What if he decides to access something a little more exciting?” Maria says nuclear codes. “Look, we need to make some calls, assuming we still can.” “Nukes? He said he wanted us dead.” Natasha said as Steve said not dead, but extinct. “He also said he killed somebody.”
Maria says there wasn't anyone else in the building. “Yes there was.” Stark brings up the now-destroyed 3D image of JARVIS' consciousness. Banner says that this is insane. “JARVIS was the first line of defense. He would've shut Ultron down, it makes sense.” “No, Ultron could've assimilated Jarvis. This isn't strategy, this is...rage.”
Thor barges in and grabs hold of Stark by his throat, holding him up. “Woah, woah, woah! It's going around.” “Come on. Use your words, buddy.” Stark said in concern. “I have more than enough words to describe you, Stark.” Thor! The Legionnaire.” “Let him go, Thor.” Natasha said. Thor listens to Nat and lets go of Stark. “Trail went cold about a hundred miles out but it's headed north, and it has the scepter. Now we have to retrieve it, again.” “The genie's out of that bottle. Clear and present is Ultron.”
Cho said she didn't understand. “You built this program. Why is it trying to kill us?” Stark starts laughing, Banner subtly shakes his head at him to get him to stop. Thor asks Stark if he thinks this is funny. “ No. It's probably not, right? Is this very terrible? Is it so... is it so... it is. It's so terrible.”
Thor says this could've been avoided if Stark hadn't played with something he didn't understand. “No, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. It is funny. It's a hoot that you don't get why we need this.”
Bruce tells Tony this might not be the time to before being cut off. “Really?! That's it? You just roll over, show your belly, every time somebody snarls.” “Only when I've created a murder bot.” “We didn't. We weren't even close. Were we close to an interface?” Well, you did something right. And you did it right here.” Steve said and continued, “The Avengers were supposed to be different from SHIELD.”
Tony asks if anybody remembers when he carried a nuke through a wormhole and saved New York. “Recall that? A hostile alien army came charging through a hole in space. We're standing three hundred feet below it. We're the Avengers. We can bust arms dealers all the livelong day, but, that up there? That's... that's the end game. How were you guys planning on beating that?” “Together.” Steve said as Tony looked at him. “We'll lose.” “Then we'll do that together, too.” Stark looks at him for a moment before turning away. Thor's right. Ultron's calling us out. And I'd like to find him before he's ready for us. The world's a big place. Let's start making it smaller.”
