Steven Universe part 2
*The next day, Steven has a conversation with his best friend Connie on the phone.*
Steven: What...? Why not?
Connie: Steven, I told you, I can't hang out today. I have tennis practice. And then Mom wants to go out for a family dinner. But she said I could hang out all day tomorrow, and I can come over all the time since it's summer vacation.
Steven: What's summer vacation?
Connie: You know, when school gets out for the summer?
Steven: I've never been to this... How do you say— "school". How does it work?
Connie: It's a place where you go to learn. It's full of desks, chalkboards, books, maps…
Steven: Hmm. I see.
*Steven and Pearl assemble a pile of school equipment in the kitchen.*
Steven: Yep, it's all coming together.
Pearl: So, how do we begin our "school"?
Steven: Ugh... I... I don't know! This is everything Connie told me. Why do I never ask follow-up questions?! Who will teach little Stevie now!?
Pearl: Steven! If only I had known that's what you really wanted!
*Pearl does a little dance and summons a small mirror from her gemstone.*
Pearl: We found this Gem-powered mirror at the Galaxy Warp. can capture and display any event it's witnessed in all of Gem history. It'll offer you everything you've ever wanted to know about your fellow Gems and our culture.
*Steven looks at his reflection.*
Steven: I must be incredibly important to Gem culture.
Pearl: It's just you in there. It hasn't even been activated. Show us the Galaxy Warp.
*But nothing happens.*
Pearl: Show - us - the Galaxy Warp.
*It still does nothing.*
Pearl: Oh, come on! I know you've seen it. It is in pretty rough shape. It must finally be broken. What a shame.
Steven: Doesn't seem broken to me!
Pearl: Oh well. I guess that's the end of our school.
Steven: Whoa. Wha... So you could say... School's out for summer?
Pearl: Yes. Good, Steven. There are many ways to say the same thing.
Steven: School's out!
*Steven runs out of the house, all excited.*
Pearl: Hmm. The asymmetry of this pile is really starting to bother me.
*Steven runs outside.*
Steven: School's out! Happy summer vacation, Steven! Happy summer vacation, Beach city! Yeah!
*Not looking where he’s going, Steven bumps into Sadie and Lars. Two people who work at a donut shop called the Big Donut.*
Lars: Ugh, watch where you're going, you little… Ssssteven!
Steven: Sorry! I'm just so excited for summer. Are you excited for summer? I'm so excited for summer!
Sadie: about setting up extra seating for the summer rush. But Lars has big plans.
Lars: You bet I do! All those out-of-town summer babes traveling away from home without their boyfriends, if you know what I mean.
*Lars raises his eyebrows but Steven is clueless about what he’s talking about.*
Steven: ...Nope.
Lars: Maybe I'll get a few numbers. Maybe I'll even... call one.
Sadie: Ha! Well, yeah, maybe I'll meet a new friend.
Steven: That's a great idea! A special new friend to have fun on the beach with in the summer. I’ve already made some new friends yesterday. Maybe if I keep using the mirror to guide me, I'll walk backwards into my own beach-summer-fun buddy!
*He begins walking backwards while holding onto the mirror.*
Lars: Next time you see me, I'll be on the arm of a hot woman!
Sadie: You can stop talking about it now.
*Steven begins moonwalking on the boardwalk, not noticing a van is about to hit him. Suddenly, the mirror repeats something that Lars said.*
Mirror: *as Lars* Er, watch where you're going, you little!
Steven: Huh? Nooo!
*The van halts to a stop. Its driver is the city’s Mayor Dewey.*
Mayor Dewey: Car wash kid, what are you doing?!
Steven: I don't know. Why were you driving down the boardwalk?
Mayor Dewey: I'm the mayor, I'm not going to walk anywhere. Now go get run over somewhere else, I'm late for a speech.
*The van drives around him.*
Steven: What just happened?
*The mirror projects an earlier image of Steven laughing.*
Steven: You work! This is so cool! What's it like being a mirror?
Mirror: *as Steven* You work!
Steven: So you can repeat stuff?
Mirror: *as Steven* Yeah!
*A large crowd gathers on the beach as Mayor Dewey is about to give a speech.*
Mayor Dewey: Hello, Beach City, my friends! It's great to be here to celebrate the coming season. A warm summer breeze wafts through the air.
Steven: PBHT!
Mayor Dewey: We all look forward to the sounds of the summer season…
Mirror: *as Steven* PBHT!
Mayor Dewey: ...the smells of the busy boardwalk…
Mirror: *as Steven* PBHT!
Mayor Dewey: ...the hot, wet ocean wind…
Mirror: *as Steven* PBHT!
Mayor Dewey: ...the time to take that pressure that's built up all year and just let it out.
Mirror: *as Steven* PBHT!
*The crowd laughs at him.*
Steven: Wow, you picked that up fast.
*Luffy and Morbius are playing at the arcade.*
Morbius: Dang it! Lost again!
Luffy: Wow, you suck at this game.
Steven: Oh, hey, guys!
Luffy: Oh, hey, Steven. We’re playing this video game over here. I’m kicking Morbius’s butt.
Morbius: It’s no fair! All you’re doing is mashing the buttons, how are you better than me?
Luffy: I guess I just got skills.
Morbius: Skills!? It takes no skill to randomly mash buttons you punk!
Luffy: Maybe I'm just really good at mashing buttons?
Morbius: That's not… *sigh* whatever, Whatcha got there, Steven?
Steven: This? Pearl gave it to me. At first it didn’t work, but now it does. Show ‘em.
Mirror: *As Luffy* I guess I just got skills.
Luffy: Whoa! It just repeated me!
Steven: Yeah. It’s been repeating stuff people said.
Luffy: Let me try. Morbius is dumb.
Mirror: *as Morbius* Morbius is dumb.
Morbius: Hey!
Luffy: Hahahahahaha! This thing is funny!
Morbius: Impressive… aside from Luffy's joke. How does it work exactly?
Steven: I’m not sure. But it’s pretty cool, right?
Luffy: Let’s see what else it can do!
*Hours later, the three of them sit on the beach as the sun begins to set after playing around with the mirror. Mostly having it make fart noises.*
Mirror: *as Steven* PBHT!
Luffy: Hahahaha! It never gets old!
Steven: Hahahaha. You got a lot of mileage out of that joke. You're pretty funny for a mirror.
Mirror: *as Steven* You're pretty funny for a mirror.
Steven: I'm not a mirror.
Mirror: *as Steven* You're pretty funny for a mi- *as Lars* Ssssteven!
Steven: You made something new!
Morbius: It’s editing what other people say to form sentences.
Stevens: Say something else!
Mirror: as Lars* Ssssteven!— *as Steven* Is— *as Sadie* ...a new friend.
Steven: Really?
Mirror: *as Steven* Yeah!
Steven: You're my friend, too!
*The mirror replays images of Steven and Luffy laughing.*
Steven: I got to go tell the Gems.
Luffy: I bet they’ll like this mirror.
Mirror: *as Steven* Nooooo!
Steven: Don't be shy, they'll love you.
Mirror: *Steven* Nooooo!
Steven: Don't worry, they're a good audience.
*Steven, Luffy and Morbius go to Steven’s house.*
Steven: Guys! Wait 'till you see-
Morbius: What’s going on here?
*They see Pearl arranging the school equipment into a tower.*
Amethyst: Yo! Ste-man!
Pearl: Hello, Steven. And pirates.
Garnet: Howdy.
*Garnet makes a finger gun*
Garnet: Bang.
Amethyst: Want to see something hilarious?
Luffy: Sure.
*Amethyst tries putting a stuffed bear on the pile but Pearl stabs it with her spear.*
Amethyst: Hahahahaha!
Pearl: You don't understand. Symmetrical means both sides have to be the same!
*She tosses the stuffed animal into a pile of other stuff she stabbed.*
Morbius: Guessing she’s a neat freak.
Steven: M.C. Bear-Bear! Okay, that's great. Anyway, I fixed the mirror!
Pearl: Excellent work, Steven!
Steven: You didn't tell me it's like a person.
*The Gems are shocked.*
Pearl: Wait, what?
Luffy: Yeah. It’s been repeating stuff we say. It can even make fart noises.
Morbius: Why’s that the part your fixated on?
Steven: Say "hey."
*But the mirror doesn’t do anything.*
Steven: Lil' buddy...
*But it still doesn’t do anything.*
Steven: Uh... excuse us. Come on. You want to come out, don't you? You have so much to say and funny noises to share from across the ages. Are we not beach-summer-fun buddies?
Mirror: *as Steven* PBHT!
Steven: Hahahaha. Just couldn't help yourself, huh?
Mirror: as Steven* Just- for- you! *as Lars* Ssssteven!
*The mirror laughs using images of Steven and Luffy.*
Pearl: It's talking to him? It shouldn't be able to do that. I-It should just be following orders…
Amethyst: Garnet, do something.
*Garnet walks up to Steven.*
Garnet: Steven.
Mirror: *as Steven* Nooooo!
Garnet: You should just give us back the mirror. It will be safer where we can watch it.
Amethyst: Yeah, let's bubble it!
Mirror: *as Steven* Nooooo!
Steven: Wha...?
Garnet: Steven, don't make me have to take it from you.
Steven: It doesn't want to go with you. Don't you hear it screaming?
Garnet: Steven, it's just a mirror, a tool. It can't want anything.
Mirror: *as Steven* Nooooo!
Morbius: It doesn’t seems like you guys.
*As the mirror keeps repeating Steven, Garnet tries to take it from him.*
Steven: It wants to be with me!
*Steven slaps Garnet's hand away, which hits her in the face and knocks her visor off. She is now very angry.*
Steven: Aah! Aah! I'm sorry!
*He runs out of the house.*
Morbius: Right… I think that’s our que to leave!
*Morbius grabs Luffy and runs away.*
Garnet: That little boy... is in big trouble.
Pearl: Garnet, wait! I'm sure he didn't understand what he was doing!
*The Gems exit the house.*
Garnet: Fan out.
*Steven, Luffy and Morbius hide behind a large rock.*
Morbius: I’ve seen that look before! The look of an angry parent!
Luffy: They’re mad now!
Steven: What am I gonna do? What's their problem with you? Are you trying to say something?
*The mirror projects more images from earlier that day.*
Mirror: Away from home- Let- Me- Out!
Steven: I don't understand!
Pearl: Steven!
Steven: Come on, I want to help you! What can I do?
*The mirror projects an image of Steven pulling the gemstone on the back of the mirror out.*
Luffy: I think it wants you to pull that rock out.
*Steven turns the mirror to its back and begins tugging on the gem. As he is pulling the gem, water from the sea begins to form the pattern of the mirror around Steven. After much effort, Steven manages to pull the gem out, and the mirror shatters. The gem then starts glowing in Steven's hand and levitates in mid-air. It reforms back into its physical, humanoid form and collapses onto the sand.*
Morbius: What the…
Luffy: Did it just…
Steven: Wha…
*They approach the Gem.*
???: Thank you. You didn't-
*She struggles to stand up, but Steven catches her.*
???: You actually talked to me. You helped me! It's Steven, right?
Steven: Mm.
???: And you’re Luffy and Morbius, right?
Morbius: Yeah.
Luffy: Who are you, blue lady?
???: I'm Lapis... Lapis Lazuli. Are you really a Crystal Gem?
Steven: Yeah!
Lapis Lazuli: But you set me free.
Steven: But... Wha...?
Garnet: STEVEN!
*The Crystal Gems appear and summon their weapons.*
Steven: Wait!
Morbius: Calm down! There’s nothing to worry about!
Luffy: Yeah! The mirror was just a person!
Lapis: You...
*A large arm made of water rises out of the ocean.*
Lapis: You three knew I was in there, and you didn't do anything. Did you even wonder who I used to be!
*It then slams onto Garnet, trapping her and knocking Amethyst and Pearl back.*
Pearl: Steven, run!
Steven: What are you doing?
Lapis: I'm Lapis Lazuli, and you can't keep me trapped here anymore!
Steven: Huh?
Lapis: They're not going to let us leave.
Steven: Leave?
*Lapis parts the ocean in half, creating a path.*
Lapis: Steven, come with me.
Steven: Where?
Lapis: Home.
Steven: B-B-But... B-But I... Uh…
Lapis: Fine.
*Lapis disperses the path. Garnet manages to break free and punch the water arm away. She then charges towards Lapis.*
Lapis: Don't trust them, Steven. Goodbye
*Lapis walks into the ocean and creates a wave that knocks everyone down. Pearl hugs Steven.*
Pearl: Steven! Are you okay?
Steven: Yeah, I'm fine. So... that was another Gem?
Pearl: Yes.
*They all gaze out to the ocean.*
Garnet: Steven, you're grounded.
*Fart*
Luffy: Hahahahaha! I thought the mirror was broken?
Morbius: That wasn’t the mirror, Luffy.
