Arlong Park part 12
*Flashback, Genzo lifts Nami by the collar.*
Genzo: You just never learn, do you?!
Nami: Let me go! I’ll pay you later! Anyway you want.
Genzo: Don’t pick up her bad habits!
Bellemere: You made a boy cry?
Nami: He made me mad!
Mother: Oh, it’s fine. Kids will be kids.
Nami: He said your tangerines suck!
Bellemere: He did what?!
*She hits the kid that Nami hit.*
Mother: Bellemere!
Bellemere: Never give up. You must find the strength inside you to always move on. You must live through every moment. And if you can smile in the face of it all…that is the greatest strength.
*Nami and Nojiko are horrified by the sight of Bellemere being killed in front of them.*
Nami and Nojiko: Bellemere!
Arlong: Shashashasha! While I’m in charge those without money will die! Do you understand me, you worms?! Shashashasha!
*Hatchan comes out of the house with Nami’s maps and charts.*
Hatchan: Hey, Arlong! I found a bunch of ocean charts!
Nami: Give them back! They’re mine! You can’t have them!
Nojiko: Nami, no!
Arlong: Well, I’ll be. Such excellent charts were drawn by a child. Bring her along. She could be useful.
*Hatchan grabs Nami.*
Nami: Let me go!
Nojiko: Leave Nami alone!
Genzo: No, you promised you wouldn’t hurt her! You got your money.
Arlong: Right. I won’t hurt her. I’m just borrowing her for a while.
Nami: Genzo, help me!
Genzo: I won’t let you take her!
Arlong: Kuroobi.
*Kuroobi slashes Genzo multiple times with a sword.*
Nami: Genzo!
*Genzo is alive but is barely standing.*
Genzo: I’ll save you. Nami… I won’t let you go…
Nami: It’s ok! You don’t need to save me!
*Kuroobi knocks him out.*
Nami: Please, stop it!
Arlong: Not too rough. They’re our cash cows.
*Arlong’s men continue to beat up the villagers.*
*Later, the doctor has finished patching up Genzo and the others.*
Doctor: All of our ships have been sunk. I'm afraid that our plan to have Nami and Nojiko escape to the sea was…
Genzo: A bad plan. The marines won’t bother trying to save us. We’ve lost our island.
Doctor: Bellemere knew this would happen. Her experience in the marines taught her what these creatures are capable of. She knew none of us would escape.
*That night, Nojiko lays flowers on the freshly dug grave of Bellemere near the seaside.*
Nojiko: They’ve taken Nami… What am I supposed to do, Bellemere?
*The next day*
Doctor: We know where Arlong and his crew are! It looks like they’re going to settle right here on this island. It’s time to decide. We can fight to the death right now or we can take a chance and hope the marines will come and save us and pray we don’t get killed! It’s your choice!
Genzo: Only marine headquarters stands a chance against them. But they have their hands full. The chances of them coming out here for us is as good as zero. But I can’t just sit here and abandon Nami. We must fight!
Townsfolk 1: We’ll I’m in! I can’t just stand by and do nothing while a child is in danger! Now who else will fight with us?!
*The whole village starts to agree to fight back. But Nojiko sees Nami walking back to the village.*
Nojiko: Nami!
Townsfolk 2: Nami, you’re ok!
Nojiko: Nami, are you ok?!
*She runs up to Nami, but she has a sad look on her face.*
Nami: I’m… joining Arlong’s crew… I’m joining the Arlong pirates. I’ll get to be a navigator and draw maps.
*Everyone is shocked.*
Genzo: What in the world are you talking about? Did they threaten to do something to you?
Nami: No.
Genzo: They must have done something! Tell us!
Nami: Let go!
*They suddenly realize that she has the Arlong pirates’ Jolly Roger tattooed on her arm.*
Doctor: That’s Arlong’s mark!
Genzo: But why?
Nami: Look at this…
*She holds out a stack of money.*
Nami: They gave me all this money. They say they’ll buy me whatever I want.
Nojiko: No!
*Nojiko jumps into Nami.*
Nojiko: I won’t let you join them! Don’t you understand?! They killed Bellemere in front of us! She died to keep us safe! I’ll never forgive you! Ever! You’re not my sister!
Nami: Get off me! Who cares?! Why would I want to live like Bellemere if it just gets you killed?! I don’t wanna die like that!
Nojiko: Bellemere… Bellemere had to give her own life so that we could go on living! How could you?!
Genzo: That’s enough, Nojiko. Leave us, Nami! Don’t ever set foot in this village again!
*Nami gets up and runs away crying.*
Genzo: I don’t understand. How could she betray her family like that? For money? Bellemere was like her mother.
*The whole village is now disappointed in her.*
*Later that night*
Nojiko: Nami loved Bellemere.
*Nojiko watches Nami sit in front of Bellemere’s grave.*
Nami: Hey, didn’t Bellemere always say “that good thing will come your way as long as you continue to live.” After Arlong took me I watched him sink 5 marine ships like they were toys. I don’t think they’ll send out anymore. We’re on our own. That’s why I decided to do something about it. So I made a deal with Arlong to buy Cocoyashi Village from him.
Nojiko: Buy the village from him? But how?
Nami: For $100,000,000. If I buy the town, we’ll be free. No one else will die. And all I have to do is join his crew and draw maps.
Nojiko: But $100,000,000?! You can’t earn that much in your whole life!
Nami: I’ll get that money no matter what! People already have a hard time paying their tribute. So I have to do this alone. If anyone else helps me, they’ll just get hurt.
Nojiko: Won’t it be hard? Living with the people who killed our mother?
Nami: I’ll be ok. I’ll just smile every time I see his face. I’m not gonna cry anymore. I’m gonna fight by myself!
*In the present, Nojiko finishes telling Morbius and the others Nami’s story.*
Morbius: Damn
Zoro: Zzzzzz…
Nojiko: To make a choice like that when you’re only 10 years old. You know how hard that must have been?
Usopp: All to save the village she loved so much.
Morbius: So that’s why she collected all that money.
Sanji: Whoever makes Nami suffer is gonna hear from me!
*Nojiko punches him.*
Sanji: Why’d you do that…?
Nojiko: Because I’m telling you to stay out of it! If you go around saying that you’re her friend, they’re going to become suspicious of her. Then her 8 years of suffering will have been for nothing. Don’t make it harder than it already is. She has to fight alone. Knowing there are people who call her friend only makes the suffering worse.
*Johnny and Yosaku cry.*
Morbius: Where’d you come from!?
*Flashback*
Nojiko: A Pirate thief?
Nami: That’s right! Pirates are the only ones I’m going to steal from! I’m gonna make ‘em pay!
Nojiko: You’re all cut up!
Nami: Yeah, I kinda screwed up. And look! $1,000,000!
Nojiko: Who cares about that?! You need a doctor!
Nami: These cuts are nothing!
*Nami buries the treasure she stole in a hole in the ground.*
Nami: I’ll hide it here. I’ll save it up. Little by little. By the time this is filled, I’ll have my 100,000,000. Still a long way to go.
*End flashback*
Nami: Only 7,000,000 left. I can get that much with just one more trip. Arlong’s rule will finally be over. Cocoyashi Village will be free. I will be free. And then… And then I’ll finally be able to smile again. For real, Bellemere…
*Meanwhile, Luffy walks into the village and sees Genzo with Nezumi.*
Genzo: So, what do the marines want with Nami?
Nezumi: Chichichichi. Your job is to lead the way quietly.
*They walk past him.*
Luffy: A hat pinwheel. Where in the world did he get that? That’s so cool!
Nami: One more little job. Let’s get to it.
*Genzo leads the marines to Nojiko’s house.*
Nami: Marines? And why is Genzo with them?
Nezumi: Chichichichi. Are you the pirate thief known as Nami? According to our investigation, you've buried a great deal of plunder of treasure somewhere in this grove. Now, we know you stole from pirates so we have no intention of arresting you. But theft is theft. As of this moment, stolen goods become the sole property of the government. Now hand it over, it’s ours!
