what's past didn't end up being the prolouge because the author is a bitch

They had been winning.

Thanos had been pinned, and they'd almost had the gauntlet off, when everything went wrong.

Mr. Stark aimed his repulsor at Mantis, who was startled enough to let go of Thanos, allowing the Titan to regain conciousness.

"We're on the wrong team," Mr. Stark said. "This is the opportunity to stop so many resource management issues, and we're choosing to scatter it all to the winds? Pete, kid, imagine an infinite source of fresh water. A black hole to send trash. Think of what this could do for Earth."

Peter tried to say that it was wrong, but his vocal cords felt like they were on ice, because what the hell was Mr. Stark doing and he was frozen in place.

Star Lord grabbed his guns and aimed them at Mr. Stark. "You're really going to join him? After all this?"

"You get a lot of time to think when you're burried under a moon," Mr. Stark snarks.

"You're not going to get away with this," Dr. Strange says. "You can't defeat all of us."

"Well, the grape was already wiping your asses without me," Mr. Stark retorts.

Peter takes in several deep breaths until he can sort his thoughts into words. "If you do this," he states," there's a 50% chance that you lose someone. Wouldn't you feel guilty if you let Thanos snap? What if you came home and Col. Rhodes and Ms. Potts were dead."

"That wouldn't happen," Mr. Stark huffs.

"You don't know that for sure."

Things are quiet for a moment, but then Mr. Stark realises that Mantis has vanished from his line of fire and all hell breaks loose.
