Three to Be

Song

_______

“Luz?” Song asked. “Luz Noceda?”

Luz shrugged, kicking at the water. “So I’ve been told, but you!” She pointed at Song and grabbed her claws. “What’s your name!”

“Um, Song,” Song said, gently pulling her claws from Luz’s hands. The human was so much smaller compared to her.

“Song! I LIKE it, muy bonita!” Luz said, giving Song a big smile. Luz then began walking around Song, commenting on all of her features, but Song was more interested in where they were.

“Luz?” Song interrupted nervously, “Where are we?”

“Titan, if I know!” Luz shrugged, standing next to Song but still jittery. “I just kinda woke up here, but it feels like I’ve been here for ages, yanno?”

“Kinda,” Song admitted, remembering when she woke up at the tree only four days ago. Song looked around some more, walking towards one of the walls. It felt like an inbetween, but it had nothing here. It was new.

It was Song’s.

“This is my inbetween,” Song said, running her finger down the lilac wall.

“Yours, eh?” Luz asked with a smirk.

“Yes, mine,” Song said, turning to look at Luz. She was surprised by the genuine smile on her face as she just wandered the empty inbetween.

“Why are you so happy?” Song asked, following behind Luz.

“Viste mi familia!” She said, turning on one foot to face Song. “And I get to meet you! A half-titan! That’s sooo cool!”

“But-” Song started, beyond confused.

“Not yet, Song,” Luz said, giving Song a fist bump. “Tell me about yourself before we get to that.”

“About myself?” Song said, putting a claw to her chin. “I don’t know… I just, I haven’t been around for long.”

“That makes sense,” Luz sighed. “But were there any stand-out moments, at least?”

“Like what?” Song asked.

“Anything you really liked doing!” Luz exclaimed, throwing her hands up. “Something you had lots of FUN doing!!”

“Fun,” Song thought out loud. She thought back to her short existence. It had mostly been about getting Luz back. Song hadn’t spared herself much, though. Just following the others around, but-

“Looking at the Sunset,” Song told Luz. “It was very pretty.”

“Aren’t they, though?” Luz sighed, looking up at Song. “You have to tell me what you thought of everyone!”

“Everyone?” Song asked.

“Si! Mi Familia! How are they doing?” Luz asked, sadness creeping into her voice.

“They seem to be doing fine, although some of them have had a harder time moving forwards,” Song said, remembering specifically Amity.

“How was Amity and my mom?” Luz asked.

“They were both still struggling, I believe, but they were doing fine,” Song told her.

“That's good, that good,” Luz sighed sadly, looking out at the vast lilac lake. “We have to decide who gets to see the sunsets now,” She said, grabbing Song's claw. “I have an idea for that.”

“An idea?” Song asked, looking down at Luz. The human laughed a little before pulling away from Song's grasp.

“I heard a story once!” She laughed. Song couldn’t help but feel just a little optimistic. Luz’s energy was rubbing off on her already.

“A story?”

“Yeah, of two people in one body,” Luz said, falling back into the water. Song rushed over to see if she was okay, but the human was just giggling to herself.

“This place is so interesting. It feels kinda like it's listening to me,” She said.

“Well, I suppose it might listen to both of us, but-” Song folder her legs and sat next to Luz.  “you were saying something about a story?”

Yep! The story,” Luz said, looking at Song. “They couldn’t agree, always fighting over who had control, but one day they came to an agreement.

“An agreement?” Song asked, picking up on the analogy.

“Yeah, neither of them could be in control; they fought too much! So they decided to both be in control, but neither of them where in control as well.”

“They became one?” Song asked, lying next to Luz.

“You’re quick!” Luz laughed. “But yeah, they became one person, bits of both sprinkled in.”

“You want that for us?” Song asked. “But there's simply more of you. It’s like a sound being absorbed by an ocean.”

“It’s the only idea that could work,” Luz said simply. “I want to live as much as you do, Hermana.”

“But that’s unfair,” Song mumbled. “I want to live as me.”

“So do I,” Luz murmured. “But if you agree, then we can live as both of us. Or whoever comes out of it will, I guess.”

“We’ll both get to move on in some capacity?” Song asked.

“I guess.”

Song thought for a second, but that deal wasn’t acceptable. She let herself be selfish as she stood up to look down at Luz.

“I want to live as me,”

“I know, I know,” Luz sighed, “But I can’t help you. You said it yourself; there's just… more of me and not enough of you to replace all of me.”

Luz stood up and looked up at Song, the two standing in front of each other in a world made of lilac and ice cream.

“Are you saying that if there was enough of me, you’d let me live?” Song asked.

“I dunno,” Luz shrugged. “But I don’t wanna think about that right now because I wanted to give you THIS choice,” Luz said.

“Why?” Song asked, “You have the chance to have your life back.”

“Yeah, but that would mean hurting you! And that's not nice at all,” Luz smiled, giving Song a poke in the arm. “So I thought I’d at least ask,”

A choice. That’s what Song wanted. The choice. And here was Luz fully able to take back her life, giving Song the choice to live, even just a little. She sighed and looked down at her claws. She would live, even as this new person. Luz was willing to give up her own existence to allow Song this chance. This new whole.

La Cancion Del Luz.

“To be as one?” Song asked.

“Yeah,” Luz smiled. “Neither me nor you. Just both of us.”

“To be as one,” Song said again, nervously extending a hand.

“Yes. To be as one,” Luz said, grabbing Song's hand before pulling her into a hug with surprising strength.

“We’ll watch the sunset together, Hermana,” They both said. Song felt herself burn, but it wasn’t painful. It was nice and relaxing. She felt herself shrink, or maybe Luz was growing. Anyways they fit together like puzzle pieces, and Song was content.

She would get to live, and so would Luz.

The World faded into the warmth and lilac light.

Stars, Plants

_______

She woke up on a bed and felt everything at once.

The grass moving outside the house. The roach trying to get a piece of food under the bed. The clouds decided if they wanted to rain. The stars burned as they brought life. Billions of miles away, the birds were singing as the sun rose, and the bears were just starting to sleep. Closer was the fairy waking up just to get swatted and-

She shut her eyes, and the information went silent.

She was herself.

Song and Luz.

She’d have to decide which name she liked better. Or maybe she could use both?

Luz Cancion Noceda. Hmmm. Yeah, she liked that. Luz Cancion. That was her name in honor of both her predecessors.

Luz opened her eyes again and shushed the influx of information. She didn’t want to hear it right now. She tried pushing up, but her left shoulder was killing her. Aching radiating pain, the information trickling in from above told Luz it would never go away. She felt the same for her wings, but when she looked back, they weren’t there. The information told her they were just tucked out of sight for now.

Luz pushed through the pain and sat up to look around. She was in her old room in the Owl House, full of old memories that Luz felt comfortable with—they were hers. A small sound brought Luz out of her thoughts, and she turned to look at its source.

Luz couldn’t be happier. Amity was sleeping in a chair by the side of the bed, mouth open and drooling as she held the 7th Azura book in her hands. Her torso was wrapped in bandages, and she had massive bags under her eyes, but she still managed to look great. Luz couldn’t help but adore her cuteness for a while before she decided to wake her up.

“Ames!” Luz yelled, launching towards her morena, scooping her up. Amity's eyes shot open as she flailed in Luz's arms, her face going beat red.

“Song? You- ARE WE FLOATING?”

Luz stopped nuzzling Amity to look around, and to her surprise, they were indeed floating. Floating several feet off the ground, in fact. Luz hadn’t even realized that they were doing so. The Information told Luz that it was her doing it, and it felt as natural as walking.

“I guess are!” Luz said, setting them down on the floor. Amity just stared at Luz, her mouth open in surprise. Luz just cocked her head to the side and gave Amity a toothy grin.

“Titan got your tongue, batata?”

“Don’t call me that,” Amity said before she went back to looking surprised again.

“You’re- you’re short, and you’re okay!” She said, grabbing Luz’s claws and squeezing them, tears coming from her eyes. Luz was confused by the statement but then remembered that Song used to stand at nearly twice Amity’s height. Luz was now only just an inch or so taller than Amity.

“You’re okay…. And- and” Amity asked, her widening in realization.

“L-L-Luz?” She asked, her voice quivering.

“Hi, Ames,” Luz said, giving her a little wave. Amity burst into tears and rushed Luz with a hug, nearly knocking her to the ground. Fortunately, she caught Amity and lifted her off the ground into a gentle float. She pats Amity on the head as she cried into Luz’s white and purple fur, whistling a gentle tune with her VOICE.

“Luz! I thought, Song- what about?” Amity stuttered, but Luz just smiled at her.

“It's mostly Luz, Morena, mostly Luz,” Luz told her. “Song and the OG Luz made a deal, a tada ME!”

“You?” Amity said, looking up

“Yep! Me! I’m Luz Cancion!” Luz told Amity. Amity looked sad before lightly squirming out of Luz's arms and dropping to the ground.

“Luz Cancion huh?” Amity asked.

“Is that an issue?” Luz asked, floating down to the ground.

“It’s your name, I don’t get a choice, do I?” Amity asked.

“Eh, if you wansta give me your last name at some point,” Luz shrugged, giving Amity a sly grin. “Then maybe, but until then, nah.”

“Give you my last- Luz!” Amity yelled, her face going red in an instant. “No, that's not happening, and if anything, I’d-” Amity’s face went sad as she turned away from Luz.

“It’s been four years, and you’re not- are you?”

“Your Luz?”  Luz asked. The question upset her a little, but she had been expecting it.  “No, not completely,” Luz told Amity. Amity looked sad, tears forming in her eyes. Luz wiped them away with her claws and pulled Amity in for a hug.

“But I still love you with all my hearts, I still love Azura, I wanna be a WITCH, and I would really really love if you could watch the sunset with my Amity Blight,” Luz said, squeezing tight.

“Heh, I love… yeah,” Amity mumbled, returning the hug. Luz floating her up, pushing back and spinning in the air to get a good look at her.

“Hey, take your time,” Luz said, picking up on Amity’s nervousness. “ I’m sure we can learn to love each other again, even though I’m a lil’ different.”

“I see you got Song’s perceptiveness, huh?” Amity smiled nervously, looking at the ground.

“How are you even- and changed a little? Luz, have you ever looked at yourself?” Amity asked.

“Nope!” Luz said proudly, setting Amity on the ground. She didn’t know why she was messing with her magic this much. It just felt like she NEEDEDto. Amity sighed and summoned a mirror, turning to face Luz and Titan. She did look different.

Her hair was two-toned, split right down the middle, and still short but a little messy. Luz's right side was deep purple, her fur the same shade as King's. She still had claws for hands and feet, but no more horns or tail. Luz for sure knew she still had wings, but they were hidden. She would have to find where they were later. Then there was her left side—White as snow, with lilac-colored talons. The left side of her face was colored a familiar blue, with little star-shaped freckles dotting her cheek.

Then there were her eyes. On the right was a titan eye, glowing gold with black sclera. On the left was even more interesting. Shades of glowing purple, and where the pupil should’ve been, was a whole constellation, glowing brightly.

Luz snorted. “I guess I look kinda different, but different isn’t so bad, right?” Luz asked Amity, who turned away to hide obvious blushing.

Before any more words could be said, the door burst open, with Eda and Luz’s mom standing there with eyes wide open. Luz smiled and gave them a wave.

“Hola, Mami! Hi Eda!”
