Misunderstandings and meddling to follow
Setting up the fair was a rather dull and uninteresting activity for the girl who shoots moving targets with silver pointed arrows and performs autopsies on small creatures in her spare time. She watched as a group of Students ran by carelessly throwing objects back and forth smiling and laughing, causing Wednesday to physically cringe. But she endured the ridiculousness of all the hype and chose to focus on the one thing about this cursed place that actually peaked Wednesday's interest
"Enid" she whispered unintentionally letting her thoughts escape her head. She didn't get the attention of her bubbly best friend as it was at such a low volume so of course the Werewolf did not react to her
Although she hadn't been loud she still stared at Enid awaiting a response from the girl who was hyper focused on the task at hand. She did have super hearing but when she was distracted she was so easily oblivious to the world around her. It was in these moments that Wednesday was able to admire her uninterrupted, so that's exactly what she did.
After a few seconds Enid's ears twitched and she turned towards Wednesday as if sensing her stare or finally registering that she had heard her name 10 seconds later.
"What's up Wens" Enid questioned her solemn looking friend after noticing she was watching her. Yet Wednesday wasn't actually ready for a conversation, she just wanted her attention. Thank God Enid had given her something to argue with
"Wens? Wens is a abhorrent nickname I would appreciate it if you would refrain from such terminology" Wednesday requested, resorting to her usual distain for all of Enid's quirky dialect. She chose to interpret the little skip her stomach did as a sign of displeasure rather than anything more or less.
"You're funny" she giggled and continued on with her task ignoring Wednesday.
"I assure you that was not my intention" Wednesday walked towards Enid and began sorting the decorations with her, slightly repulsed by all the colours and glittery items she had to come into contact with.
"Well I assure you, you're making me laugh" Enid fought back blissfully unaware of Wednesdays eyes still on her as she picked up a box of streamers and moved them off the table
"Why?" She scrunched her eyebrows together slightly.
"I can't shorten your name slightly but you can call me your 'little wolf' without batting an eyelash" she smiled widely, recalling Wednesday's Italian nickname for her.
She did do that didn't she? Why did she do that? She despised nicknames, they were meaningless things of affection. How come this was the first time Enid had bought it up? She wasn't exactly subtle about it and she couldn't quite understand why she enjoyed it so much. Just another weird little weakness she allowed herself to have around the little wolf. Her little wolf.
"I didn't hear you complaining at the time" Wednesday quirked and eyebrow, maintaining direct eye contact as if challenging Enid to oppose her.
"I didn't know what it meant at the time and besides... that's before you were being a hypocrite and I was forced to bring it up" Enid shrugged, grabbing the colourful bunting from Wednesday's grip and moving to complete her decorating and setting up.
She didn't know how to respond to that so she remained silent, her head buzzing with the endless possibilities of what this could all mean
"Checkmate Wens" Enid giggled mischievously, looking over her shoulder. She shrugged off what just happened returning to her decorating ,leaving Wednesday speechless
After about 20 minutes of comfortable quiet and avoiding her feelings she broke the silence.
"Enid" Wednesday turned away from the scene of teenagers causing havoc with silly string to address the blonde.
"What's up Wens" she looked over her shoulder while unpacking a box of colourful bunting, smiling at her as she usually does. Now that she had a leg to stand on she was going to use it as much to her advantage as she could. She wondered how far she could go in calling Wednesday pet names and the idea of it left her in a playfully devious mood.
"You're not getting involved in the high jinks and tomfoolery that I am witnessing. Why not?" She asked genuinely concerned that Enid wasn't messing around and acting well ... Like an excited puppy.
"Oh." She stopped what she was doing, dropping the decorations back in the box and stepping closer to Wednesday. "Well for one if I did then nothing would get done let's be real I am the Queen of organising these events" she spoke proudly placing and flaunting a metaphorical crown on top of her head. Wednesday fought the urge to smile at this, her lip betraying her with a slight twitch which caused the monotone girl to whip her head towards the other students, in an attempt to avert the attention away from her own features
"It is rather pathetic to watch them act so childishly" Wednesday observed uninterested.
"Wait I act childish all the time, it sparks joy when I just do whatever I want having fun being silly... It's no fun being an adult" her thoughts drift to all the miserable elders she knew and she shuddered at the thought of becoming them.
But she also zoned in on the harsh word she had used to describe them "Pathetic" she mumbled suddenly losing her bubbly tendencies, her playful mood rapidly subsiding.
"Yes that is the word I used" Wednesday stated firmly, ignorant towards the hint of Enid being hurt.
"You think I'm pathetic?" Enid's lip quivered slightly. She didn't mean to go to that place but Wednesday was so abrasive towards the teenager tomfoolery that Enid partakes in very often, it was hard not to feel like she was referring to the werewolf herself.
Wednesday was taken aback slightly. She hadn't realised the repercussions of her words and she knew Enid was emotional but surely by now she knew that Wednesday would never deliberately attack her, even with words.
"You're not actually apart of that Enid" she tried, using her own version of an apology.
"Why not? I want to be. I would happily run around pranking my friends and being childish if I wasn't so concerned with making this fair better than last years" she huffed, forcing back tears.
"Ok" Wednesday accepted this. She didn't say anything else and instead opted for looking away cautiously, scanning the table of resources to find something to distract from the situation at hand. She knew she would unintentionally say something that would only make the situation worse so instead she prayed that Enid would allow them to fall back into a comfortable silence. But that would be letting her off easy and Wednesday knew the universe had a habit of making things difficult for her, especially in social situations.
"So... You really think I'm pathetic?" Enid broke the silence causing Wednesday to physically retract at her words.
"I never said that Enid" she spoke bleakly.
"But you were thinking it" Enid didn't take her eyes off Wednesday. She could see the girl staring at her, practically feel the sadness radiating from her body and it killed her. It made Wednesday want to crawl into a whole 6 ft under and lay undisturbed for 50 years to atone for the sin of causing Enid harm. Yet with all the emotional monologues filtering through her usually deranged thoughts the only word she could muster up was
"No" said as deadpanned as she frequently would.
"God Wednesday use a word that has more than one syllable please!" Enid threw her hands up frustrated and turned away from Wednesday. She clenched and unclenched her fists in frustration, this girl had an unnecessary power over Enid's emotions and to be triggered by something so small? A careless comment made with no ill intent, it only made her feel more defeated.
"I am rather baffled Enid. A moment ago we were having a normal conversation and now you are ... Angry with me?" Wednesday observed, but it came out as more of a question.
"You called me pathetic Wednesday!" Enid finally burst stopping in her tracks to face her once again, a look of pure hurt covering her features
"You are misunderstanding Cucciola" Wednesday took a bold step forward but it turned out to be a very wrong move.
"Don't Cucciola me!" She yelled louder this time, her thoughts plagued by all of her intrusive thoughts. She really thought she was getting somewhere with Wednesday. Her own emotions forcing the werewolf out of a comfort zone she didn't know she had was bad enough but not ever being able to tell where she stood with the Seer was so frustrating it actually hurt.
So she stormed off without another word, seeing no other way around this situation.
Wednesday had this gut-wrenching feeling in her stomach and her insides felt itchy... Guilt? She was actually upset that she upset Enid and she found it positively revolting. Why does she care? She doesn't know how to care. Atleast that's what she had always told herself
so instead she picked up the box that Enid had abandoned and just carried on with setting up the fair, unable to bring herself to follow Enid further. It felt like a trap. Nothing she could say would change the mind of an angry wolf.
"Ouch that was hard to watch" the voice came from behind Wednesday. She turned to acknowledge her
"Yoko" she responded. Then she realised what the vampire had said and spoke again "It's to my understanding that eavesdropping on a private conversation is impolite" she essentially told her off.
"Like you care about being polite Addams" she scoffed.
"Insignificant." Wednesday rejected her reasoning.
"If you say so but with that attitude you'll never get my help in making it up to Enid" she shrugged gesturing to her Best Friend who had just stormed off. In fact Yoko almost followed her but Divina, who hadn't witnessed the tragic conversation but saw Enid running away upset decided to chase after her. But not before urging Yoko to talk to Wednesday with nothing but a look and a nod in the direction of the girl.
"I have no interest in recieving any help from you when reconciling with Enid" Wednesday gave her an uninterested look before trailing her eyes in the direction Enid had ran. She hadn't yet had time to figure out how she was going to fix this but she sure as hell knew that Yoko Tanaka was not going to be the help she accepted.
"Don't you mean your pup" Yoko teased, snapping Wednesday back to reality as she whipped her head back around and practically flew towards the vampire
"Do you value your life at all Tanaka?" she threatened, more up close and personal than she would usually allow herself to be around others
"I'm immortal you don't scare me" Yoko deadpanned this time. She couldn't help it teasing Wednesday was fun and knowing what he's knew how could she resist?
"Every immortal has a weakness and it just so happens I can take you out by plunging a Number 2 pencil into your undead heart with the right amount of stealth" Wednesday warned her again.
"Okay ... Damn" Yoko raised her hand to settle the girl. She knew how Morbid Wednesday could be but did she have to respond to everything with threats of death.
Wednesday smirked at her reaction, unable to hide the devious satisfaction she received from making others uncomfortable in her presence.
As if on cue Divina appeared besides Yoko looking rather flustered
"What did you say to Enid!" She yelled
"Divina" Wednesday acknowledged her arrival but declined to offer any further information
"Addams here called Enid Pathetic" Yoko explained to her frantic Girlfriend, shooting a half amused half disappointed look towards Wednesday.
"So you were stalking us the entire time then?" The raven haired-girl questioned the vampire, although clearly she already knew the answer to this.
"Of course I've gotta protect my bestie from the likes of you Addams" Yoko spat a bit harshly even for her. But you couldn't blame her considering her best friend was clearly in emotional turmoil over Wednesday's lack of perceptiveness when it came to other people's feelings.
Wednesday was extremely offended to even be accused of causing harm to Enid intentionally. In fact, protecting Enid had been her number one priority since the Hyde attack. She had never seen her innocent little blonde room mate in such a malicious and monstrous state before. She found it questionably captivating but after seeing her wounded, she vowed never to let any harm come to her ever again. The way she stared, puppy dog eyes, glazed with tears and pupils bulging from her face. She never wanted to see her that upset again, it caused Wednesday physical pain when Enid was hurting and emotional was the only kind of torture she had an aversion to. She belligerently told herself that it didn't mean she cared ... She just... She was concerned that it would impede her progress in her own daily life that's all. So, of course protecting Enid was all she ever thought about, much to her own dismay
"You were eavesdropping Babe! What did I say?" Divina slapped Yoko lightly on the arm which ironically dragged Wednesday from her own thoughts.
"Hey HEY We are mad at Wednesday here don't forget" Yoko defended after she had noticed the Seer remained silent.
"Right okay yes right" Divina reassembled the thoughts in her head. "Wednesday..." She addressed the pigtailed girl who responded only with a small nod "What the Hell?" Was all she could say. Nothing else came to mind because seriously ...what the hell?!
