Beep. Beep. Beeeeeeeeep.
Your hand flew to the clock, turning it off. With a groan, you slowly got up from your, oh, so comfortable bed. A sigh fell from your lips as you realized that yet another day would be lost to work. Most hours were spent in your office and as soon as you got home you were usually fast asleep. A lack of socializing these past couple of years had made you crawl deeper and deeper into a corner of isolation. You had maybe one or two friends outside of work but they weren’t people that you regularly talked to. As you sat down for a quick breakfast, you started scrolling through your phone, using it as a distraction. You tried your best not to dwell on those kind of thoughts as it usually messed up the rest of your day.
The bus was coming in 15 minutes and you were barely ready. Every curse word in the dictionary started flowing out your mouth as you rushed to your wardrobe. You tried your best to look professional and once you were ready, you rushed out of the door. And you realized a bit too late that it was absolutely pouring outside. The bus was coming in three minutes and you really had to hurry. You didn’t have time to go up again and take your umbrella so without any second thoughts, you took off your jacket and used it to cover your head as you ran towards the bus stop. Luckily, it seemed like the universe was on your side today since you made it to the bus stop right on time. It was warm on the bus, thank god. And there weren’t a lot of people either. You sat down on the opposite side of a rather sad looking man. His lips were downturned into a frown and his eyes seemed distant. As if he were elsewhere. Not your business though, so you took out your phone and patiently waited for your stop.
After a while, you felt eyes on you. It was getting annoying so you looked up to see the man in front of you quickly looking away with a faint blush along his nose and cheeks. You raised an eyebrow at the man before your lips curled up into a small smile. The man was kinda cute... Okay, super cute, buuuut still a little weird. Whatever, nothing will probably happen anyway. Just… move on and go to work. Yeah.
Wrong.
Everytime you looked up from your phone, your eyes locked. Not for long though, he seemed very, very, shy. It was pretty adorable. But, in the end, you were right. Your stop was next and since you’d never seen this man before you assumed that you never would again. Too bad. He was so gorgeous that you almost got brave enough to say hi but… no. As the bus stopped, you slowly got up from your seat and was very surprised to see that he did the same. Your eyes locked again and both of you apparently just froze. The doors were closing in front of you as you just started at each other but the man seemingly snapped out of the trance and quickly put his arm between the doors to stop them. A surprised laugh left your lips as he retracted his arm and winced in pain. The two of you quickly got off the bus and luckily it had stopped raining now.
An awkward silence fell between us and you nervously checked the time. Around ten minutes until work started, which was enough time. “Uh, is your arm okay?” you softly asked, smiling at him. A blush spread across his features as he answered you with a lopsided smile. “Ah, yeah, don’t worry. It wasn’t that bad.” You stayed like that for a couple of seconds, just looking at each other. He was truly beautiful, especially with the early sunlight. You both started speaking and stopped when you realized that you had interrupted each other. His eyes widened and he quickly started rambling about being sorry. You couldn’t help but giggle. “It’s okay. What were you going to say?” you asked him as you quickly checked the time again. Eight minutes until work started. His eyes avoided yours as he responded, “Uhm, I was going to ask for your name…”
After your introductions, you learned that his name was Steven. The name fit him. Unfortunately, you didn’t have any time left to converse. Even worse, you were going separate ways which meant that you had to say goodbye to your newfound friend. “Steven, I have to go now, unfortunately…” you sighed. You were absolutely not excited for work but at least you had someone to think about the entire day. Steven’s smile seemed to falter a little. “Yeah, sure. See ya on the bus, yeah?” He asked and you couldn’t help but beam at him. “Yeah, see you on the bus.”
Then you walked your separate ways and you couldn’t be more happy and excited for the coming bus rides.
