Noodles? Oh my!
Hey guys!
So slightly longer one, yay! For those who don't read my other stories, I am unsure how updates will be going from now on. I have some serious medical issues that came up and started treatments last week, but it does mean that my writing will depend on how I'm feeling on a day to day basis. Sorry! The current treatment plan goes over a 6-12 month period based on how I take to the medications along with how my body responds to surgeries. I shall do my best though! Also if you have any prompts you would want to see for this or one of my other stories just leave it in a review and I will try to make it either a chapter or a stand alone if I can.
Here we have the night before they go to see Eleanor. I don't know why I love hurting Kate so much with Yelena as the stronger one I just do! Hope you all enjoy.
Wanda paced back and forth in agitation as Natasha sat at the conference table, trying to stay calm as they waited for Fury to call. They had left Melina and Alexei in charge of the girls before meeting the other Avengers in the conference room. Steve and Sam stayed out of it for the most part while Clint flipped an arrow head around in his hand. Tony for once stayed quiet, getting the large screen ready for Fury’s call. It only took a few more minutes before Fury was up on the screen, face impassive as he looked back at them.
“Glad to see you got my message. Now, as I said Eleanor is demanding to see Kate. Due to her technically being Kate’s parent, she does have the right for that. Not alone, of course, you both would be allowed to go with her,” Fury stated calmly.
“How can she even have an inch of parental rights left?! After everything she’s done!” Clint exploded, leaping up from his chair while throwing the arrow head into the wall like a dart.
“She has good lawyers, and even though our Kate is an adult certain thing we can’t go against without causing more trouble in the long run. Now SIT DOWN Hawkeye and let us go over our OPTIONS,” Fury snapped, glaring Clint down.
“Fine,” Clint huffed, throwing himself back into his seat.
“What options are there?” Wanda spoke up, turning red eyes onto Fury.
“Let Eleanor see Kate but stay with her. Honestly, you all can go if you want. She isn’t allowed to touch Kate and she only gets 30 minutes with her. After that it’s at your discretion when they see each other,” Fury told them, leaning back and folding his hands in front of him.
“But she doesn’t deserve to even be in the same state as her! And Kate is TERRIFIED of her, do you have any idea of what this is going to do to her mentally?” Natasha snapped, struggling to keep her temper at bay.
“You’re right, she doesn’t. But we had Jen look into it and there isn’t anything we can do without sparking more trouble. So, for now we give her what she wants on OUR terms and then she never gets near Kate again. Understood?” Fury asked.
“Understood,” Natasha muttered, hearing Wanda say the same before the screen went black.
“Well, that was short,” Steve said quietly, flinching when the two women turned their furious glares on him.
“Yes, it was short. Jen has already arranged for the meeting to be tomorrow morning between her naptime. Are we all going or what?” Tony asked as he tapped away on his phone.
“No. Wanda, Clint, and I will be the ones to go. Mama and Papa will watch Yelena for us. Clint, when is Laura coming up with the kids?” Natasha asked as she turned to her partner.
“She’ll be up here tomorrow. I’m guessing early afternoon,” Clint offered.
“Good, I’m sure she will be glad to see the girls. For now, we are going to go upstairs, talk this over with them, NOT overreact, get dinner started and then play with the girls until bedtime. After that, we will QUIETLY work out our frustrations in the sparring ring so that I don’t kill her upon sight. Got it?” Natasha said while throwing a firm look at everyone in the room.
“Fine,” Clint grumbled as Wanda just nodded.
Natasha let out a huff before nodding once and exiting the room, practically stomping her way back to the elevator. Wanda and Clint followed behind her, sharing a knowing glance as they opted to stay quiet. Natasha silently fumed on the ride to their floor, occasionally mumbling something under her breath as she glared at the door. Once it opened for them, she took a deep breath and plastered on what Clint called her “spy mode face” and strolled inside. Her parents were sitting on the couch, Kate and Yelena settled on the floor before them as they all played an intense game of Mouse Trap. Well, Yelena and Melina seemed to be playing. Kate was more focused on having a mouse fight with Alexei over the fake cheese pieces, making growling noises as she hit at his mouse with hers.
“Having fun, I see?” Natasha noted, a true smile emerging when Yelena turned to her with a beaming grin.
“Tasha, you’re back!” she squealed, springing up from her game to dart at her sister, Kate toddling close behind.
“I am, what are you two up to?” she asked, kneeling down so they both could hug her.
“Mouse fight!” Kate squeaked, throwing her arms up into a fighting pose.
“Wow, sounds intense! Who’s winning?” Clint asked, making Kate jump slightly before she reached up for a hug from him.
“Me!” she boasted, pointing a tiny finger to herself.
“But I’M winning the actual game, Kate and Daddy started playing their own game,” Yelena told them, moving to hug Wanda as well.
“I see, I bet your showing Mom how it’s done,” Natasha laughed as her sister nodded eagerly.
“Yeah, Mama is having trouble remembering her numbers but I’m helping her!” Yelena said proudly, puffing her chest out slightly.
“Oh, she is, good to know,” Natasha said as she looked at Melina, noting the older woman’s sheepish smile.
“I bet you are doing a great job, but now it’s time to start dinner. Do you want to finish your game or help me cook?” Wanda asked, leaning over when Kate motioned for her so she could greet the toddler who left a messy kiss on her cheek.
“Umm… can I finish the game? I can help you tomorrow!” Yelena asked, turning pleading eyes to Wanda.
“That’s fine, detka. It’s why I asked, you can go finish the game and can help me later. Does spaghetti work for everyone?” Wanda asked the room, looking around at them.
“Clint, you staying for dinner?” Natasha asked, receiving a nod in return.
“Works for me. It’ll be ready in a bit,” Wanda told them, striding into the kitchen to start dinner. If a few cabinet doors and pots were moved with a little more force than necessary, well no one said anything about it, except one person.
“Wanda mad?” Kate asked, lower lip trembling a bit as she hugged Buddy and Rexie close to her.
“No, she’s not kiddo. She’s just hungry and ready to get some dinner,” Clint told her quickly, tickling her a bit to make her laugh.
Kate pondered this a moment before pushing herself to her feet, swaying a moment before she caught her balance. Grabbing a few of the fake cheese pieces, she made her way into the kitchen where Wanda was stirring the browning meat.
“Wanda?” she voiced softly, waiting to be acknowledged.
“Yes, sweetheart?” Wanda asked, making sure to keep her voice light as she turned to face the toddler.
Kate didn’t say anything, just walked forward and held her hand out. Wanda reached out her own hand so Kate could drop what she had into it, which were the small cheese pieces. Kate flashed her a smile before leaning forward to hug Wanda’s legs.
“Clint said you were ‘ungry, so here’s a snack!” she chirped while hugging Wanda tighter.
Wanda softened, setting the pieces on the counter before crouching down to gather Kate close. She was just too precious for words, how this tiny girl had kept her loving persona as an adult after being raised by Eleanor she would never know. Even when Kate was a bit too much at times, you couldn’t help but be drawn in by her golden retriever personality. Probably why she and Lucky had instantly clicked when she rescued him. Kate let out a happy hum as she let herself be held tightly, a wave of contentment washing over her. Wanda gave her one last squeeze before rising to her feet, Kate propped on her hip.
“Thank you, my sweet girl. That was very nice of you. Do you want to help me with dinner or would you like to keep playing?” Wanda asked, already guessing the answer as Kate had rested her head on her shoulder.
“I help,” Kate offered, even as her eyes drooped slightly now that she was comfortable.
“I bet, you can be my supervisor,” Wanda told her, knowing Kate would drop off in a moment.
“Sauce den ‘oodles,” Kate mumbled, a small yawn escaping as she began to get sleepy.
“Good girl,” Wanda praised, mentally counting down the minutes. Sure enough, Kate had dozed off by the time she was ready to pour the sauce and cook the noodles.
“Seems both girls are getting an early bedtime tonight,” Melina noted from the couch, chuckling at Yelena sleeping on the table with a toy mouse in her hand.
“Well, they did have a big day with almost no nap so it makes sense,” Natasha shrugged as she moved to help Wanda in the kitchen since one of her hands was now full.
Wanda pressed a kiss to her cheek in thanks as Natasha finished up the noodles, draining them and mixing them in with the sauce as Wanda used her magic to get the dishes set up on the table. Normally that was a chore they had started having the girls help with but for today she would cheat a little bit. Yelena had perked up a bit as she smelled the food, blearily rubbing her eyes as she sat up.
“Tired, little one?” Melina asked from the couch.
“Yeah, a bit. Mama, where’s Kate?” Yelena asked as she stretched.
“With Wanda, she’s tired too so I think after dinner it’ll be time for a bath and some stories before bed,” Melina told her, opening her arms to let Yelena cuddle into her.
“Noo, I don’t wanna go to bed,” Yelena whined even as she sunk down further.
“All little fireflies have to go to bed, otherwise we won’t be awake for the new day,” Melina told her with a laugh, kissing her forehead before setting her back on her feet when Natasha called them to dinner.
Alexei and Clint were already seated, arguing over bows being a primitive weapon. They both shut up when Melina shot them a cold stare while clearing her throat pointedly. Kate was grumbling to herself as Wanda settled her in the high chair, rubbing her eyes with a grumpy pout. Yelena stood up on tiptoe to give her a kiss on the cheek before letting Melina lift her into her booster. Kate gave her a happy smile as Wanda set their plates in front of them, noodles cut to make it easier. Yelena used her fork to shove a large amount into her mouth, humming happily as she chewed. Kate watched her a moment before deciding to forgo her fork and just grab a handful for herself.
“Well, good thing they are getting a bath after this,” Clint laughed as she tapped her free hand happily on the tray.
“Taste good, yes young Kate?” Alexei asked cheerfully, spinning a large amount of noodles on his fork and shoving them in his mouth.
“Yummy,” Kate nodded, taking another handful while managing to get half of it on her face and shirt.
“I can see that, although maybe try to get more in your mouth rather than your shirt baby girl,” Natasha laughed as she moved to wipe a stray noodle off her chin.
“Oopsie,” Kate shrugged before starting to pull at the bottom of her shirt.
“Katie, whatcha doin’?” Yelena asked curiously.
“No shirt, no mess!” Kate told her while trying to pull it off her head.
“Can’t argue with that logic,” Clint shrugged as he moved to free her from the shirt trap she had caught herself in.
“Tank you!” she chirped when she was free, wasting no time to shove more food in her mouth.
Yelena asked Melina to help her take her own shirt off, abandoning her fork since Kate’s way looked far more fun. The adults just laughed as they let the two make a mess of themselves, sauce dripping down their fronts. Kate looked down at her noodles thoughtfully a moment before taking a handful of the ground beef and holding it out for Yelena.
“Lena, here! Like Lady and Tamp!” she said with a smile, giggling when Yelena took it from her.
“Thanks Kate, this was uhh nice of you,” Yelena said with a smile while setting it on her plate.
“I know he used his nose but your too far,” Kate said with a shrug before going back to her dinner, happily slapping the tray to make the noodles bounce.
“Probably hard too since these aren’t meatballs,” Yelena said as she watched Kate with a happy smile.
“Well, they definitely aren’t tired now,” Alexei laughed as he moved for his third portion.
“Alexei, save some for the rest of us. Girls, do you want anymore?” Melina asked, motioning for him to go ahead when they both shook their heads.
“All full detka?” Natasha asked Yelena, laughing when she nodded with a happy sigh.
“And you, baby?” she asked Kate.
“Really full, Tasha,” Kate said with a pat to her belly, a saucy handprint left behind.
“Good, which means it’s time for a bath!” Natasha informed them both as she stood up.
“Cookie?” Kate asked as she lifted her arms to be lifted out of the highchair, patting her saucy hands on Natasha’s torso leaving red handprints behind.
“Cookie after bath, how about that? Otherwise, it might taste like tomatoes,” Natasha bargained, laughing when Kate nodded while looking at her tiny hands.
“Yucky,” Kate said before turning to walk to the bathroom.
“Wait for me!” Yelena called, running after her friend.
“They seem to enjoy baths at least,” Melina noted as she followed after them.
“They do, although Kate didn’t that first night but Yelena has made her like quite a few things the last few days. Makes it easier for us,” Natasha shrugged as she made her way to the bathroom.
“Wanda, why don’t you stay here and relax? I’ll help Natasha with the girls and the boys can clean up the kitchen,” Melina offered, although it was obvious that this was not one that could be refused.
“Sure, thank you Melina. I’ll get the girls cookies ready for when their done. Boys, have fun,” Wanda grinned as she made her way to the kitchen, leaving the dirty table for the men to deal with.
“Probably not a great day to have given them spaghetti,” Clint shrugged as he gathered up the dishes, taking the tray from the highchair to clean it up.
“Why are we cleaning the whole mess?” Alexei grumbled even as he started loading the dishwasher.
“They cook, we clean. Now let’s finish up, this may take a while,” Clint huffed as he scrubbed down the tray. Kate really had made a mess, but at least she had fun.
Meanwhile, Melina and Natasha were kneeling down scrubbing the two girls clean. For once Kate was making things harder, splashing around and kicking her feet while laughing. Natasha laughed with her when she got a handful of water in Melina’s face.
“Well, glad to see your having fun,” Melina said as she splashed Kate back with a smile.
“Water fun!” Kate said, giving a slightly cautious look at Melina but continuing her game.
“It is! I told Kate baths were fun, she didn’t like it the first time but then Tasha let us have BUBBLES! They even had colors!” Yelena chatted excitedly, splashing the water with her hands eagerly.
“Wow, you have been such a good helper, haven’t you?” Melina asked as she covered Yelena’s eyes with her hand while she wet her hair to rinse it.
“I thought we didn’t wash our hair every day?” Yelena asked, giggling as she held Melina’s hand with both of her smaller ones.
“We don’t, but it’s still good to at least rinse it after you’ve been out all day. ESPECIALLY when two little monsters get sauce all over themselves,” Melina teased while lifting her hand away.
“I’m not a monster,” Yelena protested, pouting up at her mother.
“No, Lena nice. Not monster!” Kate agreed, hugging Yelena tight.
“See, I’m nice!” Yelena beamed as she hugged Kate back.
“You are, my darling, I was only joking,” Melina told her fondly as she rinsed the soap off.
“Now, it is time for little water sprites to get dry so we can have our cookies, da?” Melina asked, clapping her hands together to get their attention.
“Yay! Cookies!” Yelena cheered, letting herself be lifted out of the tub.
Kate cheered as well, hugging Natasha as she set her outside the tub before suddenly darting off, leaving a trail of water behind her.
“Kate, wait! You don’t have your pajamas on!” Natasha called, racing after her with her clothes in hand.
“No pants! I nakie bird!” Kate laughed as she raced into the kitchen, startling Wanda when she ran in.
“We have a streaker!” Clint guffawed, almost bent over with his laughter.
“Run, Kate Bishop! Be free!” Alexei encouraged as she ran around Wanda and Natasha, dodging their hands easily.
“Don’t encourage her,” Wanda scolded, even though she caught Melina and Yelena watching the chaos from the doorway.
“I freeeee!” Kate crowed as she skid back to the hallway, only to squeal when Melina caught her easily.
“Correction, naked hawkling, you WERE free. Now, it is time to get dressed,” Melina chuckled as Kate groaned but allowed herself to be carried back to her room.
“It was a good try, Katie!” Yelena called before heading for the kitchen, all dressed and ready for her cookie.
“Well, that was interesting,” Natasha said simply, handing a cup of milk and two chocolate chip cookies to Yelena.
“It was funny! Katie didn’t even have her diaper,” Yelena giggled, chocolate smeared around her lips as she dug in.
“She didn’t, but she will in a moment. Don’t get used to that, at least undies are required here,” Wanda teased, ruffling Yelena’s hair before sitting down with her.
A moment later Kate reappeared, her sleep shirt and diaper on but still without pants. She flashed a toothy smile to them before starting to climb back onto the couch, only slightly hindered by her cast as Yelena pulled her up.
“All good?” Natasha asked Melina, who was coming around the corner.
“Yes, all good. She didn’t want pants again but that’s fine, I got her to at least wear her shirt so she didn’t get too cold,” Melina waved off as Wanda brought over a cookie and milk for Kate.
“Katie, you want half of mine? I gots two but we can split so we both get the same,” Yelena offered, holding out her second cookies.
“Ok!” Kate agreed, voice muffled around her mouthful.
Yelena broke it in half, handing the bigger half to the toddler before finishing her own off. Kate swallowed happily, feet kicking a bit as she placed a messy kiss to Yelena’s cheek. Cheek kisses had quickly become one of her favorite things to give. Yelena grimaced a bit as she felt bits of mushy cookie on her face, but accepted it with a smile while sipping her milk. Wanda used a napkin to wipe her face clean, whispering a soft good job to her before moving to clean up Kate’s messy hands and face. When she was done, she motioned for Natasha to come over as she kneeled in front of the two girls.
“Kate, sweetheart, we have somewhere important to go to tomorrow. Your mother has asked to see you,” Wanda said calmly, making sure she had the child’s full attention.
Kate froze, her smile dropping as fear began to fill her. Her lip quivered as she let out a few small whimpers, fingers fidgeting nervously on her cup.
“It’ll be ok, darling, I promise. You are just going to see her for a little bit, and Natasha and I will be with you the entire time. Then we will come back here and enjoy the rest of the day,” Wanda promised, placing a soothing hand on Kate’s tiny leg. The same tiny leg that still had multiple bruises on it, just like the other one had.
“You no go way?” Kate sniffled, eyes filling with tears.
“No little hawkling, we aren’t going anywhere. Wanda and I are going to be with you the entire time,” Natasha told her seriously.
“Lena?” Kate asked.
“Yelena is going to stay here with our parents for the morning, then you two can stay together if you want,” Natasha said.
“Good, Mommy scawy,” Kate muttered, thumb making it’s way into her mouth.
“But I wanna be with Kate! What if she gets scared?” Yelena protested, wrapping her arms around her best friend.
“Then we will be there, but for this meeting you have to stay here with Mama and Daddy,” Natasha said firmly, leaving no room for argument.
“Mommy make you go way,” Kate whined, tears starting to fall.
“No detka, she can’t make us go away, I swear,” Wanda soothed, reaching up to cup her little cheeks in her hands. Kate was so small, her palms almost framed the entire side of her head.
“Mommy always makes nice people go way! The doctor lady, mister nurse, and my nanny! They all make Mommy mad cause of me then they go way forever,” Kate bawled, face scrunching up as she sobbed.
Clint came back in then, having heard the last part he made his way around the couch and dropped down next to them.
“Katie Bug, have any of us said anything to you that isn’t true since you’ve been here?” he asked, voice steady and calm as he tilted her face up to look at him.
She sniffled, rubbing the tears from her eyes as she shook her head.
“Then believe me when I say that NOTHING your Mommy does will make us go away. Maybe those other people did, but she doesn’t have that power over us. I promise you, she can’t make us leave you. Do you believe me?” Clint asked, making sure to stare her in the eyes fully so she knew he was telling the truth.
Kate stared back, eyes moving back forth as she looked for something in his eyes. She seemed to find it, nodding a moment later before dropping forward to bury her face in his chest, her hand moving to clutch onto Wanda’s tightly. Wanda and Clint held her close, both whispering reassurances to her as Natasha rubbed her tiny back, Yelena holding her tightly around the waist. Melina and Alexei stayed to the side, Alexei wrapping a strong arm around his wife as she held back tears. She wished she had been strong enough all those years ago to make that promise to her own girls, but all she could do now was make it up to them day by day. Letting out a shuddering breath, she led Alexei away to clean up the bathroom and leave the makeshift family to themselves for a moment. They needed each other at least for a moment. The next day was going to be a hard test for all of them.
