Summary
This was not how Natasha thought her day was going to go. First, she and Clint had been enjoying a relaxing day at the Tower, only for Fury to call them down to the infirmary. Finding out it was for Yelena and Kate, who had been on a short “in and out” mission had nearly given her a heart attack; finding the two little girls had made her think she had had it for a moment. After the girls, or at least Yelena as Kate had hidden and refused to move, had been examined, poked, and prodded for over an hour, the only sure facts they had were pretty few.

Pizza and clothes and dinos oh my!

Natasha sighed to herself as she rummaged through her kitchen. After she and Yelena had finished their cuddle time, she had carefully picked up the sleeping Kate and made her way back to her quarters. The girls were both on the couch, Kate asleep while Yelena quietly watched a cartoon as she debated their meal options. There really wasn’t much, she had planned on going grocery shopping that afternoon but that would have to wait until tomorrow. Looks like they were getting take out. A small whine followed by sleepy crying soon filled her ears, but before she could head over to them Yelena beat her to it.

“Hi Katie, did you have a good nap? Tasha is gonna get us dinner, does that sound good?” Yelena asked as she helped Kate to sit up.

Kate rubbed her eyes sleepily, sniffling slightly as she looked around. She was happy Yelena was there, and her passy hadn’t been taken while she was asleep. Grumbling a bit, she leaned against the blonde while her cast free hand clutched at her sweater. She was NOT a happy camper when she woke up.

“Hey girls, how would you feel about pizza tonight then grocery shopping tomorrow?” Natasha called to them, wincing a bit in guilt when Kate jumped in fright at her voice.

“Oh, I love pizza! What kind do you want Kate?” Yelena chirped while turning to her new friend. She didn’t know her all that well, but something just made her want to learn more about Kate while keeping her safe from anything that could hurt her.

Natasha honestly wasn’t expecting Kate to answer, so she was surprised when she heard a tiny voice whisper “Peroni.” Smiling happily at finally hearing the adorable little voice, she kneeled down to be at eye level with the children.

“You want pepperoni sweetheart? We can do that. What about you rooskaya?”

“Same for me, Tasha!” Yelena beamed while trying not to bounce in place at hearing her new friend speak.

“Works for me! You two want anything to drink before I go order the pizza?” Natasha asked as she stood up slowly, dusting off her knees.

“Milk please!” Yelena requested before turning to Kate. Kate looked back in confusion before looking up at Natasha with a slightly hopeful expression.

“App’ juice?” she asked quietly.

“Hmm, let me see what we have. We may only have orange or grape, but one juice and one milk coming up,” Natasha said cheerfully before heading into the kitchen, fishing out two sippy cups before heading to the fridge, happy to find they did have some apple juice. Getting the drinks ready and heading back to the couch, her heart melted a bit at the sight.

Yelena was holding Kate’s hand in hers while explaining whatever show they were watching in great detail, her free hand waving around as she spoke. Kate just looked in awe between her and the TV, clearly amazed by the blonde. She sat close to Yelena, leaning on her slightly while her pacifier bobbed just the tiniest bit. Natasha couldn’t help but record them for a second and take a few pictures. It was too precious for words.

Kate noticed her this time, giving a small wave as she eyed her. The red-haired lady had been nice so far, and Lena had said she was the best sister so maybe she was good? Yelena looked over and called Natasha to her, patting the space on her other side so she was between her two favorite people. Natasha grinned as she sat, although she did wonder why neither had mentioned their parents at all. She would have thought at least a few questions would have been asked but neither seemed inclined to do so.

“Ok girls, here you go. Pink for my little sestra, and purple for our little Bishop. Now how does pizza and garlic bread sound for dinner?” she asked as she pulled out her phone to order.

“Can we get cinny sticks too?” Yelena asked.

Natasha chuckled; she had forgotten how they used to refer to the cinnamon sticks when they were younger. “Of course, what kind of pizza night would be complete without them! Kate, do you want anything else?” she asked, trying to engage Kate as much as possible.

Kate shook her head, not really understanding why she was being asked but enjoying the attention. Her mood had definitely improved after her short nap, and she decided to give the woman a chance. Scooting carefully off the couch, she toddled over and shyly lifted her arms a bit. Natasha beamed at her and easily lifted her onto her lap, keeping a loose hold so she wouldn’t feel trapped but still getting some needed affection.

“How about you two help me order? I’ll show you how on my phone. Just look for the picture and point it out for me,” she offered, making sure both girls could see as she opened the app. She scrolled slowly, praising them when they would point to the right picture. She added a veggie pizza for her and Wanda before placing the order.

“Food will be here in about an hour, how about you two help me go through what Pepper got for you? I think she even got a couple of surprises,” she hinted playfully, standing with Kate on her hip.

Yelena cheered while darting to the bags, dragging the biggest one away from the others and starting to dig through it.

“Slow down there, rooskaya, let’s separate everything so we know who gets what,” Natasha laughed as she sat on the floor, placing Kate between them so she could help if she wanted to.

“Ok,” Yelena said reluctantly as she sat down too, letting her sister take the bag.

The clothes were easy to sort through, with the difference in sizes easy to see. Natasha noticed that Kate didn’t seem too enthused with her choices, barely looking at them while adding them to her pile. If they were going to stay like this for a while maybe she would take them shopping. She also saw the young Bishop wince when she touched the little lacey socks, not even adding them to her pile but trying to toss them aside without being noticed. She let her be for the moment, focusing her attention back on the other things. One of the bags was just kitchen and bath items, while the last one held some toys and games for them. Yelena squealed happily when she saw the stuffed horse, hugging it happily before handing Kate the stuffed dog. Kate just looked on awestruck as she gently pet the fur on the toy, being very careful while keeping it close.

“Mine?” she asked softly, cradling the dog in her casted arm as she looked at them with big hopeful eyes.

“Yours, honey. You both have those and some puzzles, coloring books, and blocks to play with,” Natasha informed them, unable to keep the grin off her face as she watched Yelena dive right in.

Kate watched on as Yelena pulled everything out, oohing and aahing over it while being sure to show the toddler everything. She laughed when Kate practically squealed at the dinosaur puzzle, her good arm reaching out and making a grabby hand as the puppy stayed cradled in her casted arm. Yelena handed it over, both Russians grinning when she did a happy wiggle while pointing at the T Rex on the front.

“You like dinosaurs, Kate?” Natasha asked, making the tiny girl freeze for a moment before she nodded shyly. Natasha made a note to get her some more dinosaur toys if they were going to be like this for a while.

As she looked over the things for the girls, she frowned when she realized she had no idea where they would sleep. Yelena could use her own bed if they lowered it but was Kate too young? Did she need a crib? Rails to keep her from falling? Before her mind could spiral too far, the door to her floor slid open and Wanda stepped off of it. She stopped for a moment on seeing the three of them before moving towards them with a smile.

“Hey Nat, Tony told me what happened. Seems we have some little guests to keep us company for a while?” she teased while sitting next to them, pressing a small kiss to the red heads cheek.

“Who are you?” Yelena asked curiously while Kate froze completely, her breaths coming a bit quicker as she trembled slightly. Yelena noticed and moved so she was shielding her, allowing the scared girl to hide behind her.

“I’m Wanda, I’m Natasha’s… special friend,” she explained, frowning slightly as she watched them. No child should be so scared and battered, especially not this one who she knew so well as an adult.

“Special friend?”

“What she means is that she is my girlfriend, like how Mama and Papa were boyfriend girlfriend before they got married? Like that only as girlfriend girlfriend,” Natasha explained.

“Oh, ok! Have you been together a long time? Cause Tasha got reeeeeeally old,” Yelena told Wanda, making the woman laugh as Natasha gave an exasperated huff despite being amused also.

“Yes, we have. It’s been what, three four years now love?” Wanda asked while turning to the Russian.

“Almost four,” Natasha told her, smiling at Kate when she peeked over Yelena’s shoulder.

“Girls can too? Like Mommy and Daddy?” she asked, eyes big as she looked up at them.

“Yes, angel baby, they can,” Wanda said gently, holding her arms out slightly to let her know she could come to her if she wanted.

“Mommy says it an ano…adon…atonitation,” Kate said solemnly while scooting a little forward, waiting to see what they said.

“Your mommy was wrong, detka. People loving who they love is not an abomination. Women can be with women and men can be with men, there is nothing wrong or shameful about it,” Natasha told her firmly, making sure to get her point across while not seeming angry. Damn Eleanor Bishop to hell, no wonder Kate had been terrified of coming out to her so long ago.

Kate seemed to think about this for a moment before glancing at Yelena. “Us too?”

Both women had to hold in their laughter at the innocent question, knowing that as adults the two had been nigh inseparable even before officially getting together. Yelena had followed Kate like a shadow, keeping her safe and protecting her in every way, be it physical or emotional while Kate showed Yelena all the things the Red Room had taken from her, giving the Russian a safe place to work through her feelings as well as a home she could always return to. They were made for each other and it seemed fate agreed.

“Yes, you too Kate,” Wanda told her, grinning when the toddler scooted over into her lap. Kate smiled shyly at her before yawning and resting her head on her chest.

“Passy please?” she lisped as her eyes got heavy.

Wanda frowned in confusion before seeing the pacifier Natasha held out to her, having moved it when Kate set it down to look at the toys. She popped it in her mouth a moment to clean it before handing it to Kate, laughing slightly when she shoved it in her mouth and suckled happily. She heard Yelena giggle a bit at her, throwing the small blonde a sheepish grin as she thought of how she just automatically cleaned it without thinking after having done it so much with the twins. She missed her boys dearly, even knowing they were happy with their mother in their dimension, but having these two served as a small balm on the ache in her heart. Kate for her part let out a small content sigh as she began to doze. Something about these two women made her feel safe, so she decided to trust them for now even though she barely knew them. They just felt right to her.

“Can we please watch more ponies since she’s sleepin’?” Yelena asked, trying to keep her voice quiet.

“Sure, let me just settle her. We will need to keep the volume down though, ok?” Wanda told her as she let Natasha help her stand, cradling the sleeping tot close. She was having a hard time bringing herself to set her down, so she opted to settle at the end and let her sprawl across her chest. She gave a small snort in amusement when Kate started to drool slightly in her sleep as her pacifier slid out of her mouth. Wanda carefully moved it away before setting it on the end table behind her.

They spent the next half hour just enjoying being together, Yelena giggling at her show while Natasha watched her adoringly. Wanda watched them both, love filling her as she cuddled Kate close. The serenity was broken soon after when their door opened to Clint bringing their pizza, the dogs, and pure chaos as the other Avengers came behind him.

“Who ordered pizza and didn’t tell us?” Thor yelled jokingly as he stomped in.

Kate jumped awake at the loud noise, eyes widening at the sight of all the new people. Wanda tried to calm her down but the men crowding around them proved too much. Her eyes watered and lips trembled before she let out an ear-splitting wail, shrinking against Wanda while burying her face in her chest. The Sokovian glared at them as she rubbed her back, cooing slightly to try and calm her. Next to them Yelena watched with wide eyes as her own lips trembled.

“Kate ok?” she asked, bottom lip pouting out as her eyes began to water.

“She’s fine, rooskaya. She’s just a little overwhelmed by the boys and their extremely RUDE entrance,” Natasha soothed, sending her own glare to the sheepish men.

“Do not worry, Ladies Natasha and Wanda, a little scare helps to build courage in young hearts,” Thor said while giving Kate a small pat on the shoulder. He flinched back at the loud scream this caused, fully moving backwards a few feet when Wanda turned glowing red eyes on him as Kate sobbed.

The dogs, having been forgotten for the moment, looked on in concern. Lucky whined as he carefully moved forward, sniffing over Kate a bit before giving gentle licks to her tiny hand. Even though she was smaller now, this was still his human and he had to make her feel better. She flinched at the first tiny lick before looking over curiously, sniffling miserably as she eyed him. Her sobs tapered down to whimpers as he gave more kisses, soon getting tiny giggles when he nuzzled her side.

“Doggy tickles,” she laughed, reaching forward to clumsily pat his head, making sure to be gentle. He gave her a dopey grin before laying his head on Wanda’s thigh to gaze at her adoringly. No matter what size she was, this was his human and he loved her more than anything.

Yelena looked on, wanting to pet him but knowing she should wait. Fanny watched before moving to sit in front of her. Sniffing the small foot, her tail began to wag as she recognized her own human’s scent. She wasn’t sure why her two people were small, but either way they were her and Lucky’s people so it didn’t matter. Yelena held her hand out, knowing she had to let dogs sniff it before petting. She squealed happily when Fanny shoved her head against her hand, happily petting her fluffy head and scratching behind her ear.

“That’s Fanny, and the big guy over with Kate and Wanda is Lucky. I think they like the both of you,” Natasha told her, glad the two dogs seemed unbothered by the change.

Clint cleared his throat slightly as he stepped forward, eyes on his little protégé. When she had been an adult her cheerful demeanor and, well reckless attitude made her seem larger than life at times, just a living embodiment of sunshine. This tiny child was not that woman, just a scared injured baby. She was so small; he had no idea how she was going to grow into the woman he knew and loved. He thought back to his own children at home with Laura, his throat going tight before he cleared it again to keep his emotions at bay. Kate watched him warily, thumb entering her mouth slowly as she regarded him. He took a step forward, heart sinking when she cowered against Wanda’s chest.

“Hey, I’m Clint. I’m a friend of Natasha’s and Wanda’s. That’s Thor, he’s loud but one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. You’ve met Tony and Bruce, that there is Sam and then you have Steve. Our friend Bucky is out right now, but we would love to get to know you two if that would be okay with you,” he told the girls, kneeling down at their level as he made the introductions while pointing out everyone.

Yelena hid a bit against Natasha and gave a shy hello at all of the new people, glancing at Kate who gave a small wave when Wanda gently encouraged her. Kate looked back at her before turning to bury her face in Wanda’s neck, leaving the decision to the blonde.

“I think you can all stay if you’re quiet, loud noises scare Katie and that’s not nice,” she told them before turning to Clint. “Is that our pizza? Cause we’ve been waiting for forever!”

Everyone laughed at the girl’s exaggeration before Natasha got up to distribute the food. “It is, although I hope you boys already ate because I only ordered enough for us,” she told them pointedly when she saw Thor trying to sneak a piece.

“No worries, Nat I put in an order for us, should be here soon,” Tony informed her cheekily as she got out the plates.

Natasha gave him a small glare before going back to dishing out their dinners, making sure to cut Kate’s into small pieces she could grab. She hesitated a moment before cutting Yelena’s as well, although not as small as Kate’s. Yelena could handle an uncut slice just fine at this age but she was already doing one, may as well cut both. She put a few slices for her and Wanda on one plate before carrying them over to the couch. Both girls had calmed down and were watching her intently as she brought them their dinner.

“Ok girls, tonight we can all eat here but normally we will eat at the table. Try not to make a huge mess, okay?” she told them with a wink, smiling when they both let out small giggles as Wanda took their shared plate from her.

Yelena eagerly took her offered plate, setting it in her lap while shoving a bite of garlic bread in her mouth. Kate watched her from Wanda’s lap, barely noticing when her own food was set on the end table. Wanda handed Natasha their plate back once she had sat back down before taking Kate’s plate so she could reach it. Kate eyed it curiously as she poked the tiny bites.

“Pizza broken?” she asked.

Natasha barely held in her laughter while Wanda gave a small snort. Yelena just looked at her in confusion as she looked at the food.

“Tasha just cut it up, it’s fine. Try it, it’s yummy,” she told her, humming happily as she ate a stray pepperoni.

Kate seemed to consider it before clumsily grabbing a bite. She took a tiny nibble, then paused as she got a good taste of it before cramming it into her mouth. She bounced a bit in delight as she grabbed more bites, pouting a bit when Wanda told her to slow down.

“I just don’t want you to choke, honey. It’s not going anywhere,” Wanda teased the pouting toddler.

Kate whined a bit but did as she was told, slowing down and eating one bite at a time.

“Good to know that no matter how old she is Kate will always love pizza,” Clint grinned, laughing when Lucky came up and stole a bite.

Kate looked at the dog in shock, eyes going between her hand and Lucky. She narrowed her eyes at him, but when he gave a small whine and put his head on the couch to gaze up at her, she gave a small giggle and handed him another piece.

“Pizza doggy,” she told them, brow scrunching in confusion when they all burst out laughing. What was so funny? Not getting the joke but wanting to join in, she giggled with them before going back to her dinner.

Yelena had been quite up until this point, content to watch her show while eating her dinner but now she was done and wanted her dessert.

“Tasha, cinny sticks, please?” she asked, leaning against her sister and giving her puppy eyes.

“Already? Goodness you were hungry weren’t you you little monster?” Natasha teased as she tickled Yelena, reveling in the peals of laughter.

“I eated all my dinner so now I gets dessert!” Yelena told her in between giggles, flopping back on the couch when she was finally released from her sister’s torture.

“Well, I guess you did do that. Give me a second to eat my food and I’ll get you some, ok? Kate, do you want a cinnamon stick?” she asked, turning to her lover who held Kate still as she cleaned her face. Her plate was empty but she knew Lucky had been given some of it.

“Yes peas,” Kate said quietly, grinning when Wanda pressed a kiss to her cheek. Yelena watched them for a moment before moving off the couch and going over to them, pulling herself up so she could hold Kate’s hand. Kate gave a happy hum before pressing a slightly sloppy kiss to Yelena’s cheek, not that the blonde minded. She beamed at the affection from the tiny brunette, not noticing the two women watching them lovingly.

The men in the room had been forgotten, and upon seeing the happy children Clint ushered them out of the room. They could come back a different time, there was no need to overwhelm them on their first night. Frankly he needed some time anyway, he needed to process and speak with Laura before he was around the two girls, especially Kate. His little protégé would need him to be the father figure she had deserved as a child, and he would do it to his highest ability just as he had done when she was older. Those two girls deserved the world, and they would get it as long as they needed it.
