Taking Down Hydra and Winning The War
Tony woke up to find Peggy lying on him. He played with her hair when he noticed his armor approaching him.
"Boss, it's time. You and Ms. Carter are needed at the SSR base," Friday said as Tony nodded. He then gently shook Peggy awake.
"Tony, I was enjoying myself. You're a good pillow," Peggy said childishly. Tony chuckled at her playful attitude.
"I know, but we need to go to the meeting," he said, and Peggy quickly realized.
"Shit," she exclaimed, jumping out of bed and rushing to the bathroom.
The two of them walked into the meeting room, where many generals saluted Tony while sneering at Peggy Carter.
"I can't believe they let a woman become the super soldier," one of the generals said.
"They could have given Hodge a chance," another commented.
"Can she really protect us?" the leader of the sexist group questioned.
"It seems we were right. The serum did nothing compared to what it did to Rogers, judging from Howard's future son's footage," the higher-ranked generals whispered. However, their true fear was having a woman as the country's icon, as it would disrupt the order they had established. They silently agreed to make Peggy a sidekick, but Tony noticed. He observed Peggy tensing up and held her hand to calm her down.
"A recording of Peggy's combat skills will easily disprove that," Tony thought. Although he enjoyed fame, he was never one to profit from or take credit for others' work, especially not Peggy's. His feelings for her went beyond mere revenge; he had gotten to know her and had fallen mutually in love.
"Good morning, generals and Mr. Secretary. I see you have the footage explaining why Miss Carter was chosen to receive the serum instead of the national traitor and terrorist Steve Rogers," Tony stated.
"Morning, Mr. Stark. While we appreciate your service to the nation, do you truly believe a woman can engage in warfare? Shouldn't they stay home and cook?" asked the Secretary of State.
"I respectfully disagree. My CEO, who was like a sister to me, managed to lead Stark Industries to great success, breaking barriers. All I ask is for a chance for Peggy to demonstrate her capabilities," Tony replied. He detested showing respect to these sexist individuals, but he couldn't behave as he would in his own time when putting such people in their place was easier. For now, he would play along, but if they harmed Peggy, they would witness why all of Iron Man's enemies ended up dead.
"Very well, Mr. Stark. We will give you and Ms. Carter a chance," they sneered. They needed to defeat the Germans soon, and the Iron Man suit could be useful in achieving that.
After the meeting, Tony was seen flying into a Nazi base with Peggy hugging him. Tony put Peggy down and launched a missile, obliterating the base, while Peggy took care of the fleeing Hydra and Nazi agents. This continued until one day when the two of them were flying near one of Hydra's main factories, where a few American and allied forces were held captive. They witnessed a scrawny Steve Rogers charging in, shouting, "Give me back my Bucky!" He distracted Hydra long enough for Peggy to intervene and neutralize the guard before he could shoot the foolhardy Rogers.
Peggy then turned towards Steve and slapped him, sending him flying back with blood trickling from his face.
"What the hell do you think you're doing here, you idiot? You are an incompetent nobody! You are not worthy of being here!" she yelled.
"Peggy, why are you here? It doesn't matter. I need to save my Bucky. They have him.
I heard he was captured, so I snuck in and found out where. Then I stole a jet and came here," he proudly declared, only to be sent flying again when Peggy slapped him.
"You idiot! You are not a soldier! You are not a hero! You're just a fool who alerted Hydra. You are a traitor to your nation! You are, and always will be, nothing! After we get back, you're going to prison for stealing a jet and jeopardizing an unauthorized search and rescue mission by alerting Hydra! Do you understand? You are nothing like Tony! You didn't just risk your life; you risked the lives of our allies for your selfish dreams of being a hero. Understand this: if Sergeant Barnes dies, he dies. He signed up and accepted the possibility of sacrificing his life for his country. He doesn't need a weak, sick traitor like you to ruin a mission in his name," Peggy yelled.
"I... I just wanted to help and save my friend, no matter the cost. Is that wrong?" Steve yelled back.
"Yes, it is because you are too weak. If you had died—nobody would care, especially after becoming a traitor by stealing the jet—but you would have gotten the hostages killed. That's right, your precious Bucky might be dead because of your actions," she mocked while raising her voice.
Tony emerged with a hostage, then looked at Rogers before throwing a body at him.
"There, your heroic mission got your friend killed. They shot him in the head as soon as he tried to run and save you. But luckily, the others survived. So I suppose you can add your best friend's murder to your conscience now," Tony said callously. He didn't care about the murderer of his parents. This was a good outcome; it meant they wouldn't die this time.
Steve looked at the body, tears streaming down his face. "Bucky, no! I'm sorry. It's all my fault. I got you killed. Forgive me!" the weakened man cried out. Tony mentally smirked, finding joy in seeing Rogers in pain. He recorded the scene using the Iron Man suit, intending to replay it whenever he needed some entertainment.
Peggy approached Tony, her faceplate retracted, and she kissed him.
"Good job, honey. You did your best. Sergeant Barnes died because of Steve, not you," Peggy lovingly reassured him. Tony nodded, his faceplate closing once again. He aimed a missile at the base and fired, causing it to explode.
A loud boom startled Steve, almost giving him a heart attack.
"Alright, crybaby, we need to go. There's a special cell waiting for you, traitor," Tony said, handcuffing Steve and pulling him away from Barnes's lifeless body.
"I feel sorry for Sergeant Barnes. He died because this little boy didn't know his place," Peggy mocked, following Tony and gesturing to the rescued soldiers on their way to board the plane. They flew to the allied forces base, where Steve was immediately imprisoned. Tony requested the release of information about Steve Rogers's betrayal to the public, both to humiliate him and protect the reputation of the allied forces. Colonel Phillips agreed that Rogers deserved public humiliation if he were ever set free.
Tony also took sadistic pleasure in witnessing Barnes's mother slap Steve and blame him for her son's death. It was satisfying to see Rogers broken. Hopefully, the man would do humanity a favor and put a bullet in his own head.
The following day, Tony and Peggy were summoned to Howard's workshop, where Howard presented Peggy with a shield. It differed from Steve's shield, mainly because Howard didn't want something resembling the weapon used by Hydra to
defend against his wife's murderer. They added a British flag instead. A man approached Howard, whispering something that made him turn to Tony and Peggy with a serious expression.
"Tony, a Hydra train has appeared. We need you and Peggy to handle it," Howard said, prompting Tony and Peggy to nod. They made their way to the train, and Tony blew it up, eliminating everyone on board. They discovered information among the wreckage about the Valkyrie. Tony flew himself and Peggy there, and he swiftly killed the Red Skull before the Valkyrie could take off.
"They made the Red Skull out to be unbeatable. I guess Rogers truly was weak if he had to resort to kamikaze tactics with the Valkyrie just to defeat him," Tony remarked, making Peggy laugh.
"That idiot probably screamed 'revenge for Bucky' and rushed in, alerting Schmidt to use the Valkyrie. Or maybe he was too late, and it was already taking off. Either way, we did better," Peggy said, and the two shared a celebratory kiss. Tony then grabbed the Tesseract, and he and Peggy left.
Following that, the allies invaded the base, seizing everything of value, and the war came to an end. Tony and Peggy stood on a stage where awards were being presented.
"We would like to thank Captain Carter and Iron Man for destroying Hydra and defeating the Nazis. As a token of our gratitude, we present both of you with the special titles of war heroes," the Secretary of Defense announced, causing the crowd to cheer for their heroes.
Tony and Peggy entered Peggy's apartment, sharing a kiss, only to hear glass shattering.
"Tony, Peggy, what are you doing here? Why are you kissing? I'm here for my dance. Why are you kissing, Tony? You're supposed to be dead, Stark!" a man resembling the future Rogers exclaimed. Tony and Peggy exchanged smirks, turning to confront the out-of-place man.
