Avergers - 1
It has been almost a year since I joined SHIELD. I have grown closer to Natasha and Clint, but I could see the underlining fear. The missions assigned to me caused me to travel worldwide for SHIELD. My unique set of skills makes me a valuable asset, valuable enough that Fury will do whatever it takes to make me stay with the organization.
I am currently in Brazil on vacation, lying on my towel in my bathing suit and listening to the beach's sounds. My body is slightly sweaty from the Brazilian sun, and I can feel the heat soaking into my skin. Deciding that it is about time to go into the ocean for a swim is when my cell phone rings; I look at the screen and see the word 'Pirate' flashing. Sighing through my nose, knowing that Fury calling means that my vacation is ending the moment I answer the call, I wait until the last second before the call goes to voice mail; I answer, taking joy in the fact that it pisses Fury off.
"Hola!" I say in a very bored tone; I hear Fury sigh out in anger and reply to me.
"We need you to come in. It's important."
"It always is Fury. How badly did you guys fuck up this time?" My sarcastic tone is coming through strongly while I make the jab at the organization.
"The Avengers are being assembled as we speak."
"Damn, that bad, huh? Where's Clint and Nat?" I hear Fury sigh, and there is hesitation on his side.
At this, my eyebrow raises, and I sit up in alarm, "Agent Romanov is gathering Bruce Banner and..."
"And Clint?" Silence is my only answer, causing me to snap, "Fury? You are testing my patience," I reply, my Russian accent coming through clearly.
"Barton has been compromised."
My body stiffens in its position, and my tone is now commanding, "I want a jet up and ready in 30 minutes. You know where I am. Make it happen."
I hang up on Fury before he gets a chance to respond. I grab all my shit and walk up to my hotel room; quickly showering the ocean water, sweat, and sand from my skin, I take this time to think over the missions the three of us have been assigned to lately. I grab my work clothes: black pants, shoes, a black tank top, and a leather jacket. My phone chimes, and I see the message, 'ROOFTOP.' I grab my backpack and weapons, taking the stairs to the rooftop. Seeing that the quinjet is waiting for me to board, I walk up the ramp and sit down; one of the pilots hands me a tablet, and I begin to look through the information provided.
Natasha Romanov - Black Widow
Steve Rogers - Captain America
Bruce Banner - Hulk
Tony Stark - Iron Man
Nikolina Volkov - The Shadow/ Kali
Thor- Pending; location is currently unknown
Guess these people are my new teammates.
It takes about 2 hours to get to the Helicarrier; in that time, I read up about my teammates and why we are being called in. SHIELD's work with the Tesseract created a problem, resulting in a god named Loki opening a portal with the Tesseract's energy and entering the earth. His scepter gives the god of mischief the power to enslave Barton and Dr. Selvig, now becoming nothing but a mindless soldier. They could get away while the building collapses around all the SHIELD agents. Fury hopes that Loki's brother Thor, the god of thunder, will come to our aid, but we are on our own right now.
I feel the quinjet land on the top of the Helicarrier; once the hatch opens, it pours light into the aircraft. Squinting my eyes, I rise from my sitting position and grab my bag; walking out, I am even more blind momentarily by the light but don't bother to put on my sunglasses. Noticing only a few people on the deck, I realize that most people are already inside and waiting for me to get in so they can take flight. I walk into the Helicarrier and head towards the command center, where the first thing I see is Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner, and Nat. Fury turns to see me and nods his head in greeting, causing all three Avengers to spin around.
"Here is the one we have been waiting on. Gentlemen, meet Agent Volkova. Volkova, meet your new teammates." Fury says this as everyone is looking at me. Steve is the first to walk up to me and offer me his hand; reluctantly reaching out, my hand meets him in a firm handshake.
"Ma'am, it's nice to meet you." Hmm, he's polite, but then again, he is from the '40s. Bruce Banner shuffles closer to me and nervously shakes my hand but doesn't say anything, and I merely raise my eyebrow and nod at him once he steps away. I sit at the table and zone out from the conversations around me instead of focusing on a worker playing Galaga on his computer. I hear my name being called out by Fury and raise my head to look at him, showing him that he has my full attention.
"Suit up. You are going with Rogers to Germany; Loki is there. I want him brought back here." I hear Fury command. Pushing away from the table, giving a single motion for Cap to follow me, which he does, and we begin to exit. "Volkova," Fury's voice causes me to halt and turn to look at him, "I want him here alive." Steve looks at me in slight alarm at Fury's comment. I snicker before I lead Steve to his suit, and I tell him to meet me on the jet.
Arriving at a keypad, it waits for the combination my fingers mindlessly type in. The door slides open and reveals a small room; my suit is on the wall in front of me. The torso was made specifically for me, a thin layer of kevlar underneath with metal laying on top designed with intricate patterns overlapping each other, with a small sheath for my sword to be held. The pants are made from the same material as my shirt but are twice as thick, with holsters and compartments sewn into the fabric. The weapons wall has many guns for me to choose from, and I grab 2, a couple of knives, and a sword and place them in their respective holsters.
With the door sliding shut once I leave, I begin heading for the jet; I see Cap waiting for me with his shield. We sit down and feel the plane start to hover; Nat is in the pilot seat with another agent as her co-pilot. Germany, here we come.
As we arrive in Germany, Nat throws up a camera feed on a screen, and I can see a man dress in medieval clothing with giant antlers coming out of his helmet.
"I'm gonna take a stab at it and say that," I point to the glorified deer, "is Loki." Steve throws a quick look my way before a smile appears only for a second.
I see Loki standing at the top of the stairs, and there before he is a mob of people kneeling, some shaking with fear, others looking for
help. I feel my anger begin to rise, and I head to the back of the ship; Cap and I nod to each other and jump out the back while Loki gives a grand speech; our jump is just in time as Loki raises his scepter, a bright blue hue emits for the tip of it, to kill a frail older man. Cap maneuvers his body to land in front of the older man, and the pure energy that Loki sent hits the shield and bounces back, hitting the god in the chest; I, however, land on the outside crowd, slowly creeping around the crowd only to appear on Steve's left side.
"You know, the last time I was in Germany and saw a man standing above everybody else, we ended up disagreeing," informs Steve as he adjusts the shield to rest correctly on his arm.
"The soldier. The man out of time." Loki growls towards Steve as he uses his scepter to get up, and then Loki turns to me. "And The Shadow, the cold-blooded killer, or do you prefer to go by Kali?" I smirk and wave my fingers in a taunting gesture.
"I'm not the one out of time," Cap says; at his words, Nat drops the guns from the jet, and her voice rings through the P.A. "Loki, drop the weapon and stand down." Once Nat finishes, Loki raises his spear with one arm, and a beam of blue energy shoots toward the quinjet. Nat gracefully maneuvers out of the way and can get back into position.
Using the god's distraction to his advantage, Cap throws his shield toward Loki, and Loki stumbles back. I run forward, leaving a trail of dark mist behind me, only for Loki to spot me and send a ball of energy flying at my face. My eyes flash black for a moment, and the shadows rush forward, encasing the energy tightly, and as I jerk my chin forward, the shadows send the energy back at the god.
As Loki goes soaring back, the shadows come forward and cover me like a blanket, the familiar pull of the darkness dragging my body into itself as now I use the shadows to travel to where Loki is fighting Steve. I watch as Cap throws a right hand at Loki, thus hitting him in the jaw, which only succeeds in pissing off Loki, and Cap raises his shield to block the blows Loki is bringing forth with his scepter.
Loki manages to hit Cap in the stomach, making him flip over his shoulder and land on the ground; I take this as my chance and emerge from the shadow, shocking not only Loki but also Steve and the surrounding civilians. I race forward with my knives in my hands, blades facing toward my target, and I swing my left hand upward and stab the other knife in my right hand into his stomach. I feel it make contact, and Loki lets out a grunt of pain; he punches me in the cheekbone, causing me to loosen my grip on his hands. In a desperate attempt to break away from his hold, I swing my arm strategically at his head and dive for his legs when he leans back.
Able to gain a couple of feet, I grab the sword from my back and do a running flip in the air toward him. He holds my body and tries to shove me away, but at the last second, my force field cradles me and helps me stay in place. As I step back when I see Cap get up and fling his shield at Loki, Cap begins to punch at Loki, and the latter shoves him away with the staff.
As Cap begins to get up, Loki places the butt of the scepter at the nape of Cap's neck, "Kneel," Loki growls out while slightly panting from the fights.
"Not today." Caps growls with ferocity in his voice and kicks Loki in the face; I move forward and bring the edge of my sword to the
back of Loki's knees, and it causes him to buckle from the pain. He throws Cap away like he was a piece of meat and then turns to me; I feel my eyes turn all black and stay that way as I race forward at inhuman speed with the help of the shadows, raising my sword in front, ready to pierce his body. Loki's eyes widen for the first time since meeting him, and I see genuine fear. I bring my knife up, slice his cheek, and cut his palm simultaneously. I kick him in the face and throw him across the courtyard as I go running to him again; something stops me; I look to the sky in confusion as the song "Shoot to Thrill" by AC/DC blares through the Quinjets speakers. Loki, Cap, and I look up at the noise of something flying toward us, and I see Iron Man's gold and red suit flying toward Loki.
Tony shoots Loki in the chest with his pulse reactors, and Loki flies back and lands hard on the stairs. Tony lands in a crouch, then stand up, bringing all his weapons to the powerplay. I walk up behind Loki as Cap walks up to Tony and stands beside him.
"Make your move, Reindeer games." As Tony says this, Loki raises his hands in a surrender motion, and his battle armor melts away with a gold shimmer.
"Good move." Stark lowers all his weapons, and Captain and Stark greet each other.
"Mr. Stark."
"Captain."
I roll my eyes there, and I can tell that their being together will cause a few problems. Stalking forward, I place the knives to Loki's neck,
"get up." after forcing him to stand, I make him walk towards the quinjet. I can feel Stark's eyes on me as I walk away with Loki, and I can tell Cap is surprised that I am using my knives to threaten Loki's neck, but I wasn't taking any chances; Loki took Clint. Cap and Stark follow me up and into the jet, and Tony removes his mask, I see his eyes run lazily over my body, and I roll my eyes and glare at him.
"Ms. Volkova."
"Stark."
I roughly shove Loki into one of the quinjet seats; I grab the seat belts, strap them to Loki's chest, and walk away. I can feel his glare on my back but ignore it; I walk up to Stark and Rogers and brace for the takeoff. When I start to feel a build-up of electricity, I subtly glance around to see if something has a malfunction, but I see anything out of the ordinary. I am pulled out of my observation by the conversation between Stark and Rogers.
"I don't like it," Steve said with his back to Loki on the right side of Stark.
"What? The Rock of Ages giving up so easily?" Stark replies to Rogers while keeping his eyes straight ahead.
Steve retorts, "I don't remember it being so easy. This guy packs a wallop." I tilt my head to the side a little to show that I agree with Rogers.
Stark seems to consider Steve's words for a second before taking a dig at Steve. "Well, still, you are pretty spry for an older fellow."
After Stark comments, he turns towards Steve, and I see Steve's eyes narrow at Stark. Of course, Stark has to keep talking like he always does. "What's your thing, Pilates?" a smirk coming across Tony's face.
"What?" questions Steve, confusion written on his face.
"It's like calisthenics. You might have missed a couple of things, you know, doing time as a Capsicle."
"Fury didn't tell me he was calling you in."
"Yeah, there are many things that Fury doesn't tell you." Stark turns his gaze to me, and I raise an eyebrow.
"What about you, Miss Volkova?"
"What about me, Stark?" I challenge him and face my whole body toward him.
"Why are you here? What do you get out of joining this little rock band?"
Rolling my eyes at his analogy, I decide to give him an answer, "Mostly here to kill things. I need to reach my personal quota, and SHIELD doesn't want me killing people who irritate me."
Stark stares into my eyes, and I level up, staring right back at him; I see Steve shuffle his feet awkwardly in his place out of the corner of my eye. Loki seems to lean back in his chair, and a slightly wary expression comes across his face. Stark's eyes begin to waver, and he quickly looks away, pride filling my body as I still have a couple of secrets that will remain that way, no matter how much Stark threatens. Suddenly a large amount of thunder and lightning shakes the sky and the quinjet. I feel the hair on my neck stand up, the lightning almost striking the plane.
"Where is this coming from?" Natasha questions. The plane shakes violently, and Loki leans forward and starts to look scared while staring out the window intently.
Steve looks over at Loki and questions him. "What's the matter? Scared of a little lightning?"
"I'm not overly fond of what follows." Loki answers in his British-type tone, and his response confuses all of us for a second when suddenly something lands on the top of the plane. Steve, Tony, and I move into a slight fighting stance preparing for a battle.
The ramp to the quinjet opens, and a relatively large man jumps onto the platform. His long blonde hair is blowing rapidly in the wind; he has a large hammer in his hand and looks to be wearing a medieval type of armor similar to Loki's. The second I saw the hammer, I knew that this was Thor, the God of Thunder. With Stark leading, he stomps forward, and all three of us move to intercept him. Thor raises his hammer and shoves it into Stark's chest, sending him flying back into Steve and me. We land in a heap; the air is pulled from my lungs under the weight of the two men. Thor grabs Loki by the neck with such force that the belts break from the seat. Thor begins to twirl his hammer, and soon he disappears. Tony gets up and heads to the ramp with his helmet on.
"Now, there's that guy," Tony says with a sigh and a hint of exasperation.
"Think the guy's friendly?" questions Steve with a tinge of hope lacing his words.
"Doesn't matter. If he free's Loki or kills him, the Tesseract's lost." At this point, I am fed up with the conversation and walk to the end of the ramp. Tony did have a point; we need Loki to tell us where the Tesseract is; Tony and Steve look towards me with bewilderment in their eyes, noticing that I am standing on the edge and that I don't have any landing gear on my person. I smirk and give them a mock salute before jumping off the ramp, summoning my power, and manipulating the wind to carry me to where Thor is standing while simultaneously slowing my descent. Hearing the sound of rockets above me, I see Stark flying down fast; the shadows gently grab me and firmly place my feet on the ground before disappearing back into me.
Deciding to let the men have their pissing match, I march over to a giant boulder and climb on top of it, sitting criss-cross-applesauce. Thor and Tony soon make it to the ground giving me a pretty good view of the show as they interact.
"Do not touch me again!" Thor growls out at Tony while making himself stand taller.
"Then, don't touch my stuff," is Tony's childish reply to the god.
"You have no idea what you are dealing with."
"Uh, Shakespeare in the park? Doth mother know you weareth her drapes?" mocks Tony, and to be honest, it is pretty funny, causing me to let out a slight snicker.
At the sound, Thor turns to me and stares, running his eyes over my body and his brows furrowing in confusion when he finds me sitting as a child would. I smirk at him and wave-like; I am seeing a relative after a long time, not that I would know what it is like to have a family. Thor turns back to Tony. "This is beyond you, metal man; Loki will face Asgardian justice." Fine by me, take him away; all we need is the Tesseract.
"He gives up the cube. He's all yours. Until then, stay out of my way. Tourists." Tony scoffs and starts walking away. His words seem to anger Thor as Thor raises his hammer and throws it at Tony, hitting Tony in the back and pitching him into a tree that breaks under the weight. Thor summons his hammer back to him and is about to take flight when Tony shoots him with his hand boosters.
"Awe, way to go, Tony; you just murdered an innocent tree."
"That's your concern? A tree? Not the fact that he is trying to take our prisoner? Or, you know, M.E., I was thrown into a tree, and you care more about nature than me!" Shrugging innocently at his words, Tony shakes his head in disbelief before focusing on the god before him.
Tony kicks Thor through the tree, and Thor goes soaring back, taking many more innocent trees with him. Thor grabs his hammer and raises it to the sky, I cover my eyes and look up to see lightning being summoned, and I know Thor is going to aim it at Tony. Tony goes stumbling back for a little bit, and I decide to intervene. I feel my eyes change color; they turn all black streams of black mist engulf my body, and I thrust my hand towards Thor. The shadows wrap around his throat and slowly begin squeezing, not tight enough to kill him, just enough to make him lose consciousness. Suddenly, in the last-ditch attempt to break free, he throws his hammer at me, and it makes contact with my stomach. The force behind the throw is strong enough to send me flying and landing on my back; the air knocked from my lungs. I lay still for a second, trying to regain a grasp on my surroundings and divert my attention from the pain in my stomach.
As I lay in the dirt, Tony, whose suit is mega-charged, protectively stands in front of me and shoots a blast at Thor, and Thor goes flying back but can maneuver his body and lands on his feet. They both leap into the air, and Tony throws Thor into the side of a mountain and drags him along the rock. Thor knocks Tony back, and they tumble through the trees and roll on the floor. I grab my knives from their holder and go running. I cut Thor's arm, and he grunts in pain; he swings his forearm at me, and I block it, and I find a weak spot. I bring my knee into his gut and cause him to stumble. He jumps towards me, and I slide between his legs and jump on his back. I use my weight, and I send him flying across the clearing. He runs at Tony, and I meet him this time; I roll my eyes but grab one of my knives and check to see any blood on it. I see Thor crush Tony's metal arm with his bare hand, and I open my eyes wide because I am impressed with Thor's strength.
Tony opens his palm, and energy shoots out and hits Thor in the face; Tony's head butts Thor. Thor looks shocked before growling and
slamming his head into Tony's. It was pretty funny; Tony only did minor damage, but Thor's head-butt caused Tony to go sailing, and now there is a giant dent where Thor's head made contact. Thor and Tony ended up in a fistfight, and Thor picked Tony up by the neck and swung him around like a doll. I jump in when Tony hits the ground, punching Thor in the face and kicking out his left knee. He lands on his right, grabs my left thigh, and tries to throw me, but I wrap my other leg around his middle and flip him. Tony, still on the ground, flew straight back when Thor went to bring his hammer down onto Tony.
Thor lands on the ground, and I straddle his back and grab his arm. I lock them behind his head when he stands and slams me to the ground. I stand up and growl when suddenly I am hit with Steve's shield in the stomach. We all pause when he shouts, "Hey!" at us; we all look up at him.
"That's enough," Steve commands. He jumps down in front of the tree he has been standing on and lands in front of us. Tony, Thor, and I put down our weapons and give him our full attention. "Now, I don't know what you plan on doing here,"
"I've come here to put an end to Loki's schemes," Thor growls back to Steve as if it was apparent.
"Then prove it." Steve challenges Thor. "Put that hammer down."
Of course, Tony had to ruin it by saying a smart-ass remark. "Uh, yeah, no. Bad call. He loves his precious hammer."
Thor hits Tony with the hammer again, and Tony flails back. "YOU WANT ME TO PUT THE HAMMER DOWN?!" Thor yells and runs at Steve. Steve brings his shield up as he sinks into a crouch. Thor's hammer makes contact; a loud ringing sound pierces the air, almost like a bell. A bright light penetrates the atmosphere, and we all fly back into the trees. I get up, groan and brush all the debris off of me, my bones aching from the blast, but I will not let any of them see that.
"Are we done here?" Asks Steve, and we look around at all the damage. Thor nods, and we all begin to head back to the jet after grabbing Loki. One thought hits me when I get inside and look at Loki.
I help escort Loki down to his cell with a dozen armed officers. I shove Loki into the cage and close the door; I see him look around and smirk slightly. I walk away from the control panel and stand next to Fury.
"In case it's unclear. You try to escape. You so much as scratch that glass." Fury presses a button that opens the floor underneath the cage, and the wind enters the room. I see Loki look down and have a wary look in his eye.
"Thirty thousand feet, straight down in a steel trap. You get how that works?!" Fury closes the hatch. Pointing at Loki, Fury says, "Ant."
Then gestures at the button which would drop Loki into the steel trap. "Boot."
"It's an impressive cage. Not built, I think, for me."
"Built for something a lot stronger than you."
"Oh, I've mindless beast makes play he's still a man. And the woman who can destroy the whole world if she wanted to with a snap of her fingers. How desperate are you that you call upon such lost creatures to defend you?"
"How desperate am I? You threaten my world with war. You steal a force you can't hope to control." I watch the entire interrogation intently when Fury motions me to leave for the briefing room. I nod my head with no emotions on my face and walk out. I take the hallway towards the briefing room and see everyone looking at me. Some with fear, some have wariness, and some judge me.
"He really grows on you, doesn't he?" Bruce asks rhetorically.
"Loki's gonna drag this out. So, Thor, what's his play?" Steve questions Thor hoping for good intel.
"He has an army called the Chitauri. They're not of Asgard or any world known. He means to lead them against your people. They will win him the earth. In return, I suspect, for the Tesseract." Thor tells us all while looking down at the ground, his expression thoughtful.
"An army? From outer space?" a hint of awe and disbelief lacing the words that fall from Steve's mouth.
"So he's building another portal. That's what he needs Erik Selvig for." Bruce is piecing together some of the factors.
Concern lacing Thor's voice, "Selvig?"
"He's an astrophysicist," explains Bruce, hoping to clarify why Selvig is so important for Thor.
"He's a friend." Thor retorts back with a sad voice.
"Loki has him under some kind of spell, along with one of ours," Natasha explains. She and I look at the table, thinking of our friend, Clint.
"I wanna know why Loki let us take him. He's not leading an army from here." Steve demands.
" I don't think we should be focusing on Loki. That guy's brain is a bag full of cats, and you could smell crazy on him." Bruce insults Loki. That didn't sit too well with Thor seeing as he bites back at all of us.
"Have a care how you speak. Loki is beyond reason, but he is of Asgard, and he's my brother."
"He killed eighty people in two days." Nat and I explain at the same time while looking up through our eyelashes.
"He's adopted," Thor said, looking a little flustered when we hit him with the facts.
After getting back on track, Bruce asks all of us, "Iridium, what did they need the Iridium for?"
"It's a stabilizing agent," Tony says while walking in with Coulson. Tony turns to Coulson and says, "I'll fly you there. Keep love alive." Then Tony turns back to the group and continues to speak about the critical topic. "Means the portal won't collapse on itself like it did at SHIELD."
Tony continues talking, but this time points towards Thor, "No hard feelings, Point Break. You've got a mean swing." I lightly snicker and keep my head looking at one of the monitors. Tony starts talking about the iridium again: "Also, it means the portal can open as wide and stay open as long as Loki wants."
"Uh, raise the mid-mast, ship the topsails. That man is playing GALAGA! Thought we wouldn't notice. But we did." Tony says while talking about one of the members of SHIELD
"How does Fury do this?" Tony asks while I roll my eyes when he covers one eye and looks at the monitors.
Agent Hill answers Tony, "He turns." Tony looks around the monitors and places a hacking ship under Fury's desk without anyone noticing. Anyone but me, that is, I look at him with my eyes narrowed, and Tony swallows nervously.
"Well, that sounds exhausting. The rest of the raw materials Agent Barton can get his hands on pretty easily. Only the major component
he still needs is a power source. A high energy density, something to kick start the cube."
"When did you become an expert in thermonuclear astrophysics?" Agent Hill questions Tony with genuine curiosity in her voice.
Tony says back to her with a smart-ass attitude, "Last night. The packet, Selvig's notes, the Extraction Theory papers. Am I the only one who did the reading?"
"Does Loki need any particular kind of power source?" Steve said.
"He's got to heat the cube to a hundred and twenty million Kelvin just to break through the Coulomb barrier," Bruce answers in a severe tone.
"Unless Selvig has figured out how to stabilize the quantum tunneling effect."
"Well, if he could do that, he could achieve Heavy Ion Fusion at any reactor on the planet."
"Finally, someone who speaks English." I look at Tony and Bruce with a blank look on my face. All they were saying was true, yes, but very annoying.
Steve asks me, "Is that what just happened?" Tony and Banner shake hands, and there is a glimmer in their eyes, showing respect toward one another.
"It's good to meet you, Dr. Banner. Your work on anti-electron collisions is unparalleled. And I'm a huge fan of the way you lose control and turn into an enormous green rage monster."
"Thanks," Bruce says shyly while looking at his feet.
Fury walked in and began explaining, "Dr. Banner is only here to track the cube. I was hoping you might join him."
"Let's start with that stick of his. It may be magical, but it works an awful lot like a HYDRA weapon." Steve said.
"I don't know about that, but the cube powers it. And I'd like to know how Loki used it to turn two of the sharpest men I know into his flying monkeys." Fury demands.
"Monkeys? I do not understand." confusion was written all over Thor's face. Honestly, it was kind of adorable.
"I do! I understood that reference." Steve said very enthusiastically while looking me in the eyes. I give him a small kind smile in reply, and Tony rolls his eyes.
"Shall we play, doctor?" Tony said while making a dramatic hand gesture.
"Let's play some." Bruce agreed.
As they walk away, Fury turns to Nat and me. Thor and Steve look at us in confusion; Fury then says he wants Natasha to interrogate Loki. She gets up from the table and walks down to Loki's cage. Fury leans back in his chair as he looks at me, and I raise my eyebrow at him, challenging him with my eyes. He tells me to train and will call me when he needs me. As I get up from the table, Fury grabs my arm and says something that makes Thor and Steve tense.
"Be ready to do whatever is necessary." He let go of my arm, and I walk away toward my room.
