Chapter 5
“What the fuck?” Myk said, giving a tense laugh. They looked at Luke, “what the fuck?”
Luke shrugged. “Only seemed fair. Where should we take him?”
“Like I was saying earlier, I’ve got a warehouse nearby. Nobody will be there” Danny offered.
“Okay, we were barely getting by at self-defense, but this is just asking to get arrested,” Jessica said, closing the van doors before anyone else could see.
“We don’t have a choice,” Stick said. “That’s one of the leaders of the Hand, and we need info. We’re going to the warehouse.”
“As much as I hate agreeing,” Matt said, “he’s right. More information is the key to winning this.”
Jessica let out a sigh, before giving a nod. “Fine. Where’s the warehouse?”
A few short minutes later, the group was at an old warehouse. After an initial sweep by Matt and Myk, it was confirmed empty.
They tied Sowande up in a chair, Myk adding an extra layer of ice to the restraints, before stepping back.
“Alright, I don’t know about you guys, but no fucking way am I doing this shit without this,” Myk said, pulling their hair into a ponytail, and then into a hairnet, that they pulled from their bag, before carefully putting on a pair of gloves.
“You always carry that shit on you?” Luke asked, to which Myk gave a grin.
“The gloves, yes. As for the hairnet, well, haven’t cleaned out my bag since I worked at a restaurant, so technically yes,” Myk said, before waving a now gloved hand, “but hey, came in handy, didn’t it?”
“Guess it did,” Danny said. “Now, how long until he wakes up?”
“Not long,” Jessica said, earning a questioning look from the rest of the group.
“Wait what?” Myk said, “Let’s just pour water on him,” they said, pulling out their water bottle as Jessica walked up to Sowande and smacked him in the face, “or let’s y’know, give the man a concussion, theres also that.”
Sowande chuckled softly, as Danny stepped closer, asking, “what are you doing in New York?”
“There’s nothing you can do to make me betray my own,” Sowande replied.
“You sure buddy?” Myk said in a fake, higher pitched voice, “I can be extremely annoying. I will quote every godddamn reference in my fucking vocabulary,” Myk said, “And oh, about that. I’ll do this,” Myk said, raising Sowande’s temperature from a stable one to 102.
“Don’t bother,” Stick said. “They were trained for this in K’un-Lun. Trained with the same monks that raised him.” Stick pointed to Danny with a shrug.
“So?” Luke asked.
“They put us through brutal trials,” Danny stated grimly.
“It’s called discipline,” Sowande argued.
“Uhh, it sounds like a need for some therapy,” Myk interjected, “doesn’t sound too healthy to me.”
“It means,” Colleen said, giving Myk a look, “he won’t crack by force.”
“You know nothing of the power of the Hand” Sowande said.
“Then please sir, by all means, share the details of your organization,” Myk said. “Make us understand your goals, your power as you say.”
Sowande scoffed. “You are but mice who fell into a well. Believe me, this will drown you.”
“Unlucky for you,” Jessica said, “We know how to swim.”
“What do you want with our city?” Matt asked, walking up behind Sowande.
“Your city?” he let out a laugh. “This place belongs to the Hand. It always has.”
“I traced it back to 1820,” Jessica offered.
Myk gasped. “You bastards.”
Sowande let out a breath, “That’s all?”
Matt leaned in closer, “Why do you want Danny Rand?”
“Nothing you do can make me serve you,” Danny stated, putting his hands in his pockets. “Do you understand?”
“Daniel,” Myk scolded, “Don’t be patronizing,”
At the same time, Sowande replied, ‘Do I understand? You are the dumbest Iron Fist yet”
“See, Sowande, that goes for you too. Don’t be rude, alright?” Myk said, still in the fake voice, throwing their arms up in the air.
Jessica shot Myk a look, who looked promptly embarrassed and put their head down for a second.
“What do you want with me?” Danny asked, moving closer to Sowande and crouching down.
“We want the Fist. You are nothing” Sowande said. “Danny Rand failed an entire city,” he turned his head away from Danny, choosing to face forward. “The place he was sworn to protect. The same way the unbreakable one let that boy die in a jail cell. Afraid and alone.”
He looked more in Jessica’s direction. “The same way the woman couldn’t save the architect.” At Jessica’s change in stance, he smiled. “What’s wrong? Have I gotten in your head the same way he did long ago?”
Jessica rushed forward, fist reaching back. Luke caught her, holding her back, whispering “Hey, hey, hey.” Myk came up from Jessica’s right and put a hand on her shoulder, causing Jessica to turn her head towards Myk, expression changing once more, as Luke released her.
“What about the ones you love?” Sowande asked, “What will happen to them once they are gone? Who else must die because of you?”
“What the fuck are you on about?” Myk asked, Sowande’s head tilting slightly.
“What about you? The one who has to first fight themselves before they can fight others, knowing no one will be enough to save you. When you are gone, what will happen to the one you call your brother? Or the friend you claim to love?” Sowande said, turning his head forward again. “What of the nurse? The woman on the radio. They’ll come for them next. How many mice must drown with you?”
Jessica reached forward, punching him again. “He talked too much.”

“Are you sure you want to come with? THis might be really awkward,” Myk said, walking in the direction of Malcolm’s precinct, Matt by their side, and Karen a few feet ahead.
Matt nodded. “You came with me to get Karen, it’s only fair I go with you to get Malcolm, and Gil.”
Myk sighed. “True. Karen is nice. Malcolm, on the other hand, well, he’s nice, but he’s very, very curious. And will be analyzing everything about us, because he’s a profiler, and will be getting zero information.”
Letting out a chuckle, Matt shook his head. “Let me assure you- I’ve faced far worse.”
“Alright, alright,” Myk said, “You’re an adult, make your own, albeit questionable life choices. Here,” they crossed over the sidewalk, moving across the street, motioning for Karen to follow. ‘It’s easier if we cross here.”
“Mykola,” Matt said as they got onto the sidewalk. Mykola let out a hm? as Matt continued. “I would’ve been there, if I had known. And if you’d like, I’ll be there now.”
Mykola gave Matt a grin, adjusting the grip on their bag. “Yeah, I know. And yeah, that would be awesome.”
The three, a few blocks later, arrived at the police precinct. Mykola walked up the steps, opening the door and ushering the others in. They maneuvered through the precinct, bullpen to bullpen, until they arrived at a room with some desks and a conference room. There were four people in the conference room, surrounding a table and talking.
Myk had Matt and Karen wait in the bullpen area, while they entered the conference room, knocking on the door.
“What’s going on bois,” Myk said, giving everyone a smile.
“Kola,” Malcolm said, surprised. Gil walked over to the kid, giving them a hug.
“Hey Myk,” JT said, and Dani gave the kid a smile and a nod.
“I need to talk to Malcolm and Gil really quickly, if that's okay. Just a warning- I will be stealing Mal away, for a bit of time, so good luck with your case.”
“Yeah, let's go outside real quick,” Gil said, leading the two out the door, into the corner of the hall. “So, what’s up?”
“Y’know how it was my first day yesterday? Or today, whatever, my day hasn’t ended, so. Continuing on. Basically, some fucked up shit happened, which I can’t talk about,” Myk said, holding a finger up, looking at the two, “and now, you,” Myk said, pointing to Malcolm, “are in danger. So, for the next day or two, you need to be at a specific police station with the rest of the group, until it's over.”
“Hold on,” Malcolm said, “I’m gonna need more details. What-”
“Nope.” Myk said, looking around the station, “literally the more I tell you, the more danger. Mal,” they said, leaning forward a bit, “it’s me. It’s also related, to y’know, the Raft stuff, kind of, I mean- it’s adjacent. So,please. Come with me, like now, because we literally,” Myk paused for a second, letting out a nervous laugh as they talked, “have no idea when they’re gonna strike.”
“Who’s we?” GIl asked, causing Myk to look away from the group.
“Oh. I’ll tell you after this is over. I’m asking you guys to trust me, alright?” Myk said, earning a sigh from Malcolm. GIl looked between the two, before giving a small nod.
“Get your stuff, Malcolm. You’ll work with the team via online.” At Malcolm’s protest, Gil continued, “Myk knows more about this stuff than we do. Look, kid, if one of our cases was coming after Myk, wouldn’t you want them to be safe while you worked?”
“Ooh,” Myk whispered, “he got you there, Mal. You heard the man, get your stuff. We’ve got a long way to walk. We still have more people to get.”
Gil ushered Malcolm into the room, ignoring his argument. As they packed up, Myk walked back over to Matt and Karen, giving them a smile.
“That went way better than expected. Lucky for us, Gil is the only reason that we’re getting Malcolm to go. He is one of the only people who can occasionally get Malcolm to do stuff.” Myk gave a shaky chuckle for a moment, running a hand through their hair.
Matt gave Myk a smile, placing a hand on their shoulder for a second. “You did good, '' I heard the conversation. Didn’t even give him an inch.”
As Myk gave Matt a grin back, Karen let out a scoff, crossing her arms. “I don’t think thats something to encourage, Matt.”
Their conversation was cut short by Malcolm returning, with a bag and some files in their hand. Malcolm gave Karen and Matt a scrutinizing look. “And you two are?”
“Mal,” Myk said, interjecting and starting to walk toward the exit. “Let’s talk and walk. Matt, Karen, meet Malcolm, who’s basically my brother, and the other guy was Gil, who is basically Malcolm’s dad.”
Malcolm turned their head, “Mykola Jones. That’s-” he sputtered, before taking in a breath., “you’re not wrong, but not everyone needs to know that. We’ve talked about this. And who are these people, and not just their names”
Mykola let out a hum, before crossing into the next bullpen, and out towards the main exit. “Karen’s like you guys, Matt, well, Matt’s the team lawyer. We got him involved in our shit, and y’know. Oh, stairs in a few feet, counselor.”
“Now I’m ten layers deep,” Matt supplied, quoting Myk from earlier, as they all exited the precinct, unfolding his walking cane, moving it side to side in front of him, Karen taking his arm for a moment as they walked down the step., “You two should be in front of us, so Myk and-” he paused, allowing the others to catch up, “So Myk can tell if someone is coming.”
Malcolm narrowed his eyes, “I’m perfectly capable of handling myself.”
“Okay Mr. gets kidnapped on a regular basis. Stand with Karen, keep a fucking eye out, Matt and I need to talk, okay?” Myk said, giving Malcolm a stern look.
He huffed out a breath of air, as if he had something to say, before walking forward with Karen, quietly talking to her. “Don’t profile or question her, Malcolm.” Myk added, earning a glare from Malcolm.
Myk turned their head to Matt. “I swear. Children these days.”
Matt chuckled. “I know, right? Now, Foggy is on his way to the precinct, but you said we still have another friend of yours to get?”
Myk nodded. “Yep, just one more that I think they would be after. Well, there was one other, but they were working near the precinct, and I told them to get there ASAP, and we have an understanding when it comes to emergencies, so yep! Just one more.”

After picking up Myk’s friend, Ash, on the way to the precinct, the four made their way back. Malcolm was still unsatisfied, but took a seat, opening up his case files and getting back in his working mindset, deciding to try to question the others later. Ash settled in with a computer and some books, set on reading with headphones in.
“I’m sorry,” Myk had said to Ash, who shook their head in reply.
“Don’t be. Not your fault” they said, waving to Penny, who entered the room. Myk sighed in relief, rushing forward to give them a hug, before turning to Ash and doing the same.
“I owe you both an explanation after this, okay? At least a vague one. Just, sit tight for now. Please. I love you both, but I’ve gotta go, okay?”
They quickly said goodbye, and Myk rushed back out the door, ignoring the stares from the other part of the Defender’s ‘friends’. Matt and Myk took to running, stopping by Matt’s apartment for him to change into his Daredevil suit, before taking the rooftops to the building where Jessica was picking up her sister, Trish. Myk coated their hair in ice and put a pair of sunglasses they borrowed from Matt, paired with their mask in an attempt to cover their face.
They rushed in, getting some odd looks, before hearing Jessica and Trish on a platform above. The duo ran up the stairs, Myk breathing a bit heavily, before stopping at a platform, Matt throwing one of his bully sticks at the man- who they noted to be Murakami. He went down, before pulling out a knife from his holster. While he was down, having just pulled out the knife, Jessica kicked him in the side, Myk timing it by heating up the handle, causing the knife to go flying away from both opponents. He went sliding across the floor, before crossing to fight Matt.
They exchanged blows for a moment, blocking each other’s hits until they reached near the glass overhang, Jessica coming from the side once more and catching Murakami off guard. While Matt and Jess fought the man, Myk rushed over to the knife and more importantly- the unguarded blonde woman, who had coincidentally rushed over to the knife, picking it up.
“Hey,” Myk said. “I’m gonna need you to hand over the knife, so I can destroy it please.”
The woman’s hands grasped around the knife, shaking and holding it up towards Myk. “Who are you?”
Myk paused for a moment. “You, uh, you can call me Brisvell. I’m with them” Myk said, pointing towards Jess and Matt, who were now rushing over. Jessica nodded, and Trish handed the knife over.
Myk worked quickly, forming a small, hollow square of ice, placing the blade in it and melting it down, before burning off the handle, causing it to smoke. They quickly sealed off the cube, reducing the handle to ash, tucking the cube inside their bag.
“Nice work, kid.” Matt said as Myk tucked the cube away. Myk nodded. “Alright, we better go before more come.”
“Yeah. You believe me now, Trish?” Jessica said, giving her sister a look, who merely gave a nod and started walking toward the exit, Jessica rushing to her side. Back to the precinct they went, Trish muttering quietly to Jessica about Daredevil, said vigilante following behind, taking the lead, ushering Myk up to the rooftops and showing them how to move across them and also watch a target.
