Scene 4: May 22nd, 1986, Hailey’s bedroom 11:00pm

In Hailey’s bedroom, Hailey is tossing and turning. 

[Screen flashes back a few times until we get a flashback]

[FLASHBACK]: December 29th, 1985 – Living room

Father: (voice raised, it is clear they were in the middle of an argument) No, Hailey! You wanna explain why I heard from the folks across the street that you and that girl you’re always bringing over are getting awfully close? They said they say you two running in a field together like a bunch of ‘fucking faires! 

Hailey crosses her arms against her belly as if to protect herself.

Hailey: (defensively) Her name is Willow. And I don’t know what you’re trying to imply but-

Father: (cuts her off, voice even louder) Hey! Don’t talk back to me like that! You know damn well what I’m talking about. I didn’t raise a goddamn fag-

[FLASHBACK CUTS OFF]: Back to present 

Hailey wakes up in a cold sweat, her chest is heaving. She scrambles to sit up, clutching her chest. Her breathing is erratic and irregular. 

Her aunt can be heard arguing on the phone in the background - Hailey supposes it is her detective job.

Hailey calms herself down and she sighs, laying back down. 

Hailey: (quietly, to herself) I don’t need him. That is exactly why. I don’t need him.

The end of the scene shows her laying back down and closing her eyes.
