I'm not thanking that thing, Sam

“How long do you think it will take for him to realize?” Peter asked Shuri, bouncing on his toes with excitement. They were standing outside Sam’s room, waiting for him to leave.

“Shhhh! Here he comes,” Shuri chided. Her hair was tied in two tight buns, and she was wearing jeans with a shirt that said “Schrodinger's Cat is Still Alive”.

Sam walked out, sporting an air force sweater and jeans. Before he slammed the door, he called out “my Redwing! Daddy’s gonna be home soon!” He trots off, not noticing the two young geniuses hiding around the corner.

“Who’s Redwing?” Shuri asks.

“Sam’s drone. You don’t think that will be a problem, do you?”

“Nah,” Shuri said as she took out a flip-phone. Peter looked over her shoulder to see what she was doing, a questioning look on his face.

“You run the technology of the most advanced country in the world. And you have a phone. That looks like it came out of the ice with Steve Rogers.”

“Listen, Buttercup Cumbersnatch doesn’t mean I don’t go back to the basics sometimes.” Peter stared blankly at her for a few seconds. “Kidding,” she laughed. “Oh God, you should see your face hahahahahahahahahaha.” She faced the phone towards Peter. “Watch.” The small phone expanded into a high-tech laptop.

“Woah cool. Is that a GTX 1050ti GPU??!” Peter pointed to the small attachment.

“1051,” Shuri said proudly. “I built this based on the ones GeForce sells. It’s faster, smaller, and has better graphics.”

“That’s so cool.” Peter watched as Shuri hacked into the surrounding motherboards. In just a few short minutes, she was able to disengage Redwing.

The two kids walked inside. The apartment room was oddly clean and there was a pile of sports magazines on his couch.

“Let’s start,” Shuri instructed. Peter threw the duffle bag he was carrying on his onto the floor. “And you’re sure none of the avengers are home?”

“If they are, I haven’t seen them,” Peter answered.

“Good enough.”

They walked over to Sam’s small, personal kitchen and started taking out all of the food from the cabinets and fridge and from wherever else they could find.

“This is gonna be epic.”

“Bet.”

When all the food was in another duffle, they began replacing it all with birdseed.

When they were almost through, Peter said, “hurry, I think someone’s coming!” Peter and Shuri frantically finished placing all the birdseed to replace Sam’s regular food.

“Redwing!” came Sam’s voice.

“Shit.” Peter jumped up to the ceiling and opened up the ceiling grate.

“Peter!” Shuri chided for leaving her there.

“Oh right, sorry.” Peter webs her and pulled her up without a sweat. They slowly start to crawl on the ceiling in a weak attempt to avoid Sam’s gaze.

“Redwing?? Are you here buddy?” Sam yelled. “I saw your server was offline!” He frantically goes over to the couch where he sees Redwing next to the pile of scattered magazines. “Who did this to you??”

Shuri and Peter don’t wait for Sam to continue, and close the vents. “That was really close,” Peter said as they navigated their way through.

“What was?” A familiar voice startled the teens. Before Shuri could yell and blow their cover, Peter placed a hand over her mouth, which she promptly pried off after the initial shock.

“Clint?” they said in confused bewilderment. “Why are you in the vents?”

“I come here all the time. What are you doing in the vents?”

“Touche,” Peter responded.

After a few more beats of awkward silence, Shuri says, “okay…” and pushed passed Clint, who doesn’t object.

“That was weird,” Shuri said.

“Totally.”

A few more minutes pass before they find an entrance to drop from. Peter picks it up effortlessly and sticks his head out.

“It looks like the training space for new recruits,” he says. Peter slowly lowers the duffle full of Sam's food to the ground with a web. Then, he jumps down and catches Shuri.

There are two trainees who stare in confusion. Shuri puts a finger to her mouth and says, “shhhh,” very calmly and slowly. With her other hand, she makes a shooing gesture. The men start to walk away, a muddled, yet now turned nervous expression still hanging on the faces.

“Let’s go before anyone else sees us!”

Back at Stark towers, the two teens start head up to Peter’s room.

Once there, they settle down on his bed and Peter started chuckling. His laughter seemed to be contagious, as Shuri began, as well. They sat there, feeding off of each others laughs, facing turning red, until they heard Sam come in.

“Tony?” he called from the living room. “Tony!?”

“What should we do?” Shuri asked, trying to stifle her laughter.

“Act natural,” Peter said, getting up from the bed and making his way towards the door.

The two kids walk out of Peter’s room to find a frantic Sam.

“What’s up?” Peter says in a high voice while crossing his arms and trying to lean against a wall. However, there was no wall, causing him to stumble sideways.

Sam raised an eyebrow. “You alright, Parker?”

“Yeah, yeah. What’s up,” he repeats, regaining his composure and lowering his voice and octave or two.

“Tony home?”

“Tony?” Peter looks around. “Tony!” he calls. “Hmm I guess not, better come back later.”

“Yeah, uh, well you’re pretty smart with technology and shit.” Peter waits for Sam to continue talking. “I think someone may have hacked into Redwing.”

“What?” Peter attempts to make his voice sound incredulous.

“Yeah, I don’t really know. I went out of my room, then got an alert Tony set up if something ever happened to him-”

“Him?” Shuri interrupted.

Sam swiveled his head in search of the girl who was now sitting on the couch behind him.

“Woah, when’d you get here?”

“You call your thing a him?!” Shuri laughed, ignoring Sam's question.

“Shut up; he’s got feelings, he saves people.”

“All right.”

“Well?”

Shuri and Peter exchange looks. “Sure.”

Back at the compound, Sam says, “I’ve called Tony. Said he’ll be here soon.”

Shuri and Peter follow Sam into his room.

“I don’t think we should be here when he finds out,” Peter worried quietly to Shuri.

“I think we should film it,” Shuri said with widening, plotting eyes.

“What are you kids talking about in there?” Steve comes into the room. They all turned their heads to look at the super soldier.

“Something’s happened to Redwing,” Sam explains.

“Did you try Tony?” Steve asks.

“Yeah, on the way over here, I called; said he’ll be here soon. In the meantime, the boneheads said they’d take a look.”

Ignoring the name Sam called them, Shuri walked over to where Redwing was sitting, and Peter follows. They pretend to look at Redwing for a little before telling Sam that everything seems to be in order.

Sam rejects, saying, “I’m just gonna wait for Tony to do it.”

Before Peter and Shuri could make their escape, a voice comes from the doorway, the billionaires seemingly favorite way of making an entrance. “Do what?”

They turn and see Tony, standing in prim suit and personal Stark-made sunglasses. Sam explains the Redwing situation, and he takes a look. While this is happening, Sam ventures to his kitchenette.

Not a moment later, they hear a yell. “WHAT THE HELL?!”

All heads now turn towards the kitchenette.

“What’s wrong?” Steve asks.

Shuri and Peter both look at each other at the exact same time. Unfortunately for them, Tony spots the exchange.

“Someone’s replaced all my food with birdseed!!!” Sam yells. “Who the hell did this?”

Tony raises a skeptical eyebrow and the teens. “You wouldn’t have anything to do with this, would you?” he asks.

“Us?” Shuri asks innocently.

“We’ve been at SI all day,” Peter adds, equavitating her tone.

“So you wouldn’t mind if look into Redwings hacked history?” Tony says, a smirk playing on his face.

“It's what now?”

Tony chuckles and picks up where he left the little robot. Steve guards the door to ensure Shuri and Peter don’t get out.

“Hmm,” Tony smiles. “It seems as if someone’s disabled Redwing earlier today with a GTX 1050ti GPU… but with a little upgrade.” He stands. “You’re right,” he faces Sam and Steve, “Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum over here couldn’t have created a new GPU. You’d need to probably be one of the biggest geniuses on the planet.”

“We’re pretty smart,” Shuri chimes in, knowing she's falling for Tony's trap but can't help it.

“Yeah, but even I’d need to spend a little while making one of these babies. No way you could have done it.”

Shuri stands, unsure of what to say for once in her life.

“I’ve hacked into your things before,” Peter supplies.

“So you hacked into Redwing?”

“We could have.”

“And you switched Sam’s food?”

“We might have.”

“Why you little-”

“Careful, Sam. They’re just kids.” Steve puts his hands against Sam.

“Why’d you do it?”

Shuri starts laughing, leaving Peter to try and keep a straight face. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. The two stand there for a moment, laughing until their stomachs hurt, still on a high from before.

Peter wipes a tear away from his eye and says, “You’ll never see us coming! And you’ll never catch us alive!” He makes a whooshing noise as he simultaneously waves his hands in front of his mentor. He backs away, unintentionally bumping into a wall. Instead of going around, Peter climbs up backwards into the open air vent they opened before.

Shuri is left to stand awkwardly in front of the three avengers, trying to stifle a laugh. Sam looks at her with an expression of growing anger.

Shuri takes out her phone, puts a finger up to mean “one moment” and opens up her music app. As loud as she can, she plays the WII theme song and waits for Peter’s return.

Peter comes bouncing up and down, lifts her up, and they leave.

“Well,” Steve says, “we better prepare. This looks like it’s only the beginning.”
