Chapter 2

Bucky was talking but I wasn't listening. I'm trying really hard not to focus on my stomach but that's really hard. I still can't believe that being stabbed hurts this much! In the movies the main character gets stabbed and can kill like 10 guys that are twice his size and be completely fine. I guess my pain tolerance isn't as high as I thought... before I can entertain that thought, spots suddenly cloud my vision. Ugh. Instead of fighting it I close my eyes and welcome the unconsciousness with open arms.

Bucky's POV:

About a block away from the Tower I look down at the poor girl. She's wearing black sweatpants and a baggy slipknot shirt with holes in it. There are bruises littered across her arms and collar bone. I look at her face. She can't be more than 13. What happened to her?

When I met her in the alley she looked pretty tired. Her hand was pathetically pressing against her stomach while she was leaning against the wall smoking. I wonder what the team is going to think of her. Maybe we can keep her!

I shake my head. No. She probably has a nice family waiting for her. Before I know it, the tower is right in front of me. I go in and quickly make my way to the elevator, ignoring the stares. I press the top floor and after what feels like forever the doors open and I head straight for the lab. I hear Steve call my name and quickly catches up.

"Buck what happened?"

I don't say anything. Is she still alive. Maybe if I had run or something she would be fine...

Steve opens the door for me and Tony and Bruce's heads immediately turn towards us. Without hesitating, Bruce makes his way towards us while Tony just stands there confused. His eyes roam over her.

"Table." Is all he says. I follow him and gently place her on the medical table.

"Looks like a stab wound. Do you know how she got it?"

Everyone's eyes turn to me. I nervously scratch the back of my neck and look at the ground.

"No I just found her like that."

"What do you mean you found her?" Bruce questioned.

"Well, uh, I was running and I turned down an alley and she was just leaning against the wall."

"Um, okay. Everyone out. I need to work."

Me and Steve went to the living room and Tony disappeared. I sat at the bar next to Steve and poured a drink.

"What do you think happened to her." Steve asked.

"I have no idea."

"Do you know her age?"

I shake my head.

"Her name? Any family?"

I shake my head again. "She tried to get me to leave her there."

"She didn't want your help?"

"No."

After what seems like forever, Bruce walks in and me and Steve quickly stand up and make our way towards him.

"She's okay. There was a bit of internal bleeding but I fixed that up. She is unconscious right now so let her be. When she wakes up we can ask her what happened.

"Can I go see her?" I feel protective over this strange girl. I don't know why.

"Of course."

I walk to her room and pull up a chair next to her bed. She looks peaceful, serene, laying there. Who would ever want to hurt her?
