Goodnight Irene

Akademos, Krakoa

The GeNext team were watching as the others had finished up, training with the kids as they had started to group together, “So, how’re things in with your folks?” Gabby whispered as the older mutants had started to work together with each other when Irene had started to look around, “they’re good, way better than with grandfather.” she had whispered back, “How?” Gabby whispered back.

“Because they are interested in my stuff, even if it’s not something they like.” she had told the girl as TJ had went and hopped over to the two of them, “Hey! Reenie!” TJ had said, having taken to the nickname that her father had given her, “If I were to possess you and then you absorbed me, would I end up like a ghost in your brain?” she had asked of her, “Huh,” Irene said, “I do not know.” she told her cousin.

Before they were about to speak up, there was a hand on her shoulder, making her turn to see it was Danielle Moonstar, “Irene, can I talk to you?” she had asked of the girl now that their demonstration was finished, “Okay!” She said before looking to Gabby and TJ, “See you in a bit guys!” she said before walking over to Danielle, “What’s up?” she had asked of the older mutant.

“I wanted to talk to you about your synergy.” she had said, “But I’m great at that!” Irene had said, “I can mix up everything I absorb and can make an awesome combo!” Irene had said, “Yes, on your own, but I want you to work more with others, you always seem to do your own thing instead of trying to work with your team.” she said, looking towards The GeNext kids.

Irene started to blush at that, “I’m sorry.” she had said to her, Danielle smiled at that, “There’s nothing to be sorry for.” Danielle said, “I have an assignment for you.” she told Irene, “Next time you have a team up, only use ONE power you already have, okay?” she asked her, “Okay.” Irene said, nodding at that as she left and Irene didn’t know why she was messing up in such a way.

Lebeau Residence, Krakoa

Irene was playing with the cats, all the while, Rogue was looking out the window and Remy was serving her breakfast, “Breakfast is served.” Remy had said as Irene got up and took her own plate from her father, “Cracked pepper for cher?” Remy asked, “I’d like some!” Irene said to her pere who had went and started to get them before he went back to her mother.

“Say when.” he had said, Rogue still distracted by something when she snapped out of it, “Oh. eh…” Rogue had said, “C’mon.” Remy said, “I had the Marauder bring us in some real eggs.” he said, making Irene grin, plant eggs were nice but come on, “Agreed! That ‘egg plant’ was gettin’ ‘em all wrong!” Irene had shouted, loving the protein as Rogue looked towards the pair.

“I’m sorry, Remy, Reenie, ah just don’t get it. It’s over.” Rogue had said to them, “We gone and done all that fool Otherworld stuff, we paid the tool. Did them deeds, fought them monsters.” Rogue had said, making Irene wish that she was there, “Cher?” Remy had asked of his wife as the two were worried, “Whole Captain Britain Corps came back and they’re all Betsy now.” she said, upset as Remy had leaned into her.

“Yeah, he said, knowing what she was feeling, Irene looking at them, wanting to hug the pair, “But not OUR Betsy.” Rogue had said to them, “…No.” Remy said, leaning into her, “Ain’t it sunk in yet, Remy?” she had asked of as they had looked to the island again, “She’s gone.” That had made Irene sad for her as well, “I wish I had a way into Otherworld.” Irene said, wanting to help.

The two of them had looked towards her and nodded towards her before they had went and gotten up, “We’re gonna go and see the rest of the team,” Remy had told his daughter who got a little bit excited at that, “Are we gonna go to the Green Lagoon?” she had asked of the two of them before she had gotten up to play with her mothers hair, “No, you are still in trouble.” Rogue said to her.

That made her pout as she had went and braided her hair for her, “We better find someone to watch you.” Remy had said, “Ah, again?” Irene asked, “Grandfather had the youngest of his Marauders babysit me, she was fun but come on! You have my trackers!” she had said to them, but neither one was going to leave her alone and were curious who it was that Nathaniel left in charge of her.

Bling had entered, looking around the house as Irene had waved to her, “Hullo!” Irene had said, “I’m the Moppet of Mass Destruction, Irene!” she had said to the older girl who had in turn offered her hand, “Roxanne Washington,” she had said to her, “But everyone calls me Bling.” she had said to her, making Irene smile as well as the older girl saw what she was making.

It was a family tree, curious, Roxanne looked at the tree and how it seemed to be alive, “This is interesting.” she said, seeing how it seemed to be pretty thick with adoptive family and biological family, “I wanted to make it when I was Five.” she had told Roxanne as she had went to another piece of art, “So, I heard that your usual babysitter was one of the Marauders?” Roxanne said to her.

“Yeah! She was awesome!” Irene said, “She could be a little abrasive, but when we used to prank people on our trips…!” Irene went, giggling at the memory and making Bling look at her in confusion, “So… not Greycrow?” she had asked of the young girl who shook her head, “Nope, Alice.” she had told Bling, making the diamond skinned girl look at her in confusion, “Who’s Alice?” she asked.

Irene looked at her in confusion, “You know, Alice MacAllister?” Irene said to her, “M. Alice, Malice?” she had said, surprising Roxanne, “Wait, Malice is your favorite?” she had asked Irene, “Yeah! She’s like a reverse me! Plus she treated me like a partner in crime.” Irene said, missing the british punk as she started to get a read, “You can bring Mercury here if there’s a next time.” Irene said.

Confusing Bling, “How’d you–?” “I’m getting a slight drain on you, see?” she said, showing her skin turning diamond, “It’s always on.” she had said as Bling had realized that there was something on her mind, “So wait, if you’re getting a constant drain on an island of mutants that are partying and making more mutants than–” “Grandfather gave me the birds and the bees talk when I first started to understand it.” she said.

Roxanne whistled at that as she sat down, “That must be a lot.” she told Irene who nodded, focusing on building a tower made of figurines of mutants she made, a small dupe doing the finer details, “Sure, but it also helped me get my crushes.” she had told her, making Bling smile, “Really, who?” the older girl asked, curious, “Nomi, Ove and Linea.” Irene said matter of factly as if she just told her the time.

Bling heard about them, the mutant kids that Sinister made and one of the Arakkii, “Huh.” Roxanne said, “I don’t know that much about them, why don’t you tell me why you like them.” she said, wanting to grow a deeper connection with Irene, in case Malice tried anything with her so that Bling would know, just in case, “Okay.” Irene said as she started to shift into each.

“Linea because they’re like my mama,” Irene said, “They’re trapped with their voices but instead of crumbling, they thrived and the wonder in their eyes, it just makes me feel fuzzy.” She told her, “Ove is because he never questions himself,” she told her, “To be able to face your decisions without caring about the morality or damage to others, only knowing it would help those you love, it speaks to me.” she said.

“And Nomi is because she’s a leader.” Irene said, “She’ll fight there with her team but she’s willing to do whatever it takes to protect her people, even if it means she’ll die.” Irene had said, knowing their minds but trying to not be a stalker as it were while Roxanne had smiled, “Do any of them know?” she had asked of Roxanne as she had started to make three hollow pillars with the three inside.

They had both looked at each other before there was a noise, one that made the two look in curiosity as they thought that there was a eep, Irene used some Quicksilver and ended up behind the GeNext group that were there, “What’re you doing here?” she asked them, “We wanted to see if you wanted to play a game.” TJ said with a grin that said  she was gonna tease her while the others blushed.

“You all heard that, huh?” Irene had asked them, Ove and Nomi both glaring at each other while Linea spoke, “Do you with to be Hetaera with me?” Linea had asked, they were still too young, but it would be interested in the fact, “Yes, I would like–” Irene had said just as there was a metal muzzle on, making her look towards Nomi before her body had absorbed the metal, “Nice.” she said sarcastically.

“Irene,” Ove said, stepping towards her, “I would–” Linea had grabbed his ear, starting to petrify him which was when he glared and threw their hand off, “Mine.” Linea told him while Pavel and the others all watched, “Got any popcorn?” TJ asked Irene as the three of them had started to argue, “Come on, want to play a game?” she had asked of the others, taking Kendall’s hand as they had went inside.

“Your friends?” Bling had asked, “Yes, the ones I like are fighting outside too.” she said, just as there was an explosion from outside, probably Linea, “Kittens?” Kendall had asked, making Irene smile, “Follow me.” she said as TJ and Pavel had sat beside each other, looking at the family tree, “Hey! Where’s me?” TJ had asked her cousin, a little upset at that, “Give it a second!” Irene said to her.

As the two of them came back in, Irene had went and sat on the ground, “Just touch Onkel Kurt.” she said, TJ did as much and as she did, a new tree had popped out with her face in the trunk and popping out to reveal her family there, “Wait, you found my mom?” TJ had asked, looking at the other half, “Yep!” She had told her as four more trunks appeared with three names.

“I’m still trying to find the Inhuman Royal Family Tree for your cousin but I was able to get this much.” she told her as TJ saw her mother, “Wanda Maximoff, I’m The Scarlet Witch’s daughter?” she asked of her cousin, “Yep! I got a way into his system so I could find it!” She had said, TJ had went and looked the info over that she had as Irene showed them all the data she had for the parents she could find for them.

“This is awesome!” TJ said as Azari and Kendall checked to see their different dads, “T’Challa?” Azari said, seeing his while Kendall noticed hers, seeing the kids there as well as how they seemed to be a few too many, Roxanne had an idea, “Anyone wat to go to the beach?” she had asked, making them smile, all of them grinning at the action as they had all gotten ready to enjoy the beach.

Beach, Krakoa, X–Force #16

They were all in swimsuits, Irene lent one of hers to Linea after they said they wanted to go skyclad so they were matching, GeNext had went and ran into the water, Pavel having TJ on his shoulders as they had went and rushed in, Kendall and Roxanne going to enjoy the sand and make castles while Irene got the volleyball set ready, thank you dupes as they got ready to play.

All but two of the dupes had melded back together as it became Irene, Ove and Azari vs Irene, Nomi and Linea, “How do we…?” Nomi asked as Irene had went and reversed her hair and eye color, “Reen, reporting for duty!” The Irene said as they began Mutant Volleyball, “Alright! Let’s play!” Nomi said, serving the ball, just as there was a swarm of zombies coming to shore.

Pavel grabbed and threw one towards the others as TJ who was play chicken had went and fired Hex Bolts towards them, “Water Zombies!” TJ had shouted, making the others all look towards that, Ove grabbed and threw the ball, destroying the skull of one as Nomi had taken the jewelry she was wearing and tore apart the creatures, Azari started to do controlled electrocution with Irene and Reen burning them with Linea.

Kenall was spooked and electricity started to come off of her as the three of them fired beams of plasma, a wall of blow torches to eradicate the ones coming in when Ove looked to Nomi, “Nomi! Trident!” he said to her so she had went and pulled out The Nanominium Trident from their base and into his hand, “I’ll go and deal with the source!” he said before leaping in, “I’ll join!” Irene shouted.

The others were about to say something which was when they saw she just made another Dupe that went Atlantean, the group there dealing with them saw Domino and Forge as well as they wondered what was going on with them, but as they did, The Atlantean Irene and Ove had headed further into the deep and made them more and more curious on what was going on.

Underwater, Krakoa

The two of them had headed deeper and deeper into the water, and as they did, the two of them saw that there were sea creatures mixed in with the zombies, making the two of them glare as they had went and fought, Ove took his trident and fired a beam of energy, “Seriously?” Irene said as she started to look like Crosta before firing shockwave after shockwave at the animals there.

“What?” he asked her as he had grabbed one and used his foot to help tear the top half of a shark's head off, “Super strong, flight, beautiful voice, hot and now energy beams?! Where’d you get that gimmick?” she had asked, making Ove pause in surprise before he had went and thrown his trident like a javelin, spearing a few as Irene extended her arm and got it back, “Use these!” she shouted, making javelins.

They were made by coral that grew out of her body and were as tough as steel as they had noticed that lightning was coming from below, “What the?” Irene had shouted as they saw that there was a trio of mutants in diving suits coming up, “You want to follow them or…?” she had asked, “I want to see the destruction.” Ove said and hearing that, they had went and headed downwards.

The two of them had ventured deeper as they had seen that the animals had started to die off, “What is this…?” Ove had asked and Irene had no idea when they had seen another who was coming up and saw the two of them, “Who are you?” The man asked, glaring at them, “Crosta has no siblings, why does this one look like him?” He thought, hearing that, Irene had changed to appear more like herself.

“Greetings, my name is Irene, daughter of Remy and Anna Marie Lebeau.” she had told him with a bow, “And this is my friend…” she had said, making the two look and see that the boy there with black and blonde hair, looking like a mini Namor stared at him with a shocked expression, “Ove, Ove!” Irene said, smacking him in the back of his head, “This is Ove Kenziesen.” she had told him.

“I am Namor, King of Atlantis.” he said to her, examining Irene’s features, “So you have both your parents powers?” he had asked as Ove had looked towards the king, “H– Hi.” he said, sounding more and more shocked by the him, but Namor had barely given a glance as he had spoken to Irene again, “Tell Remy that he was a useful teammate next time you see him.” he said to her.

“Okay,” Irene said, seeing how Ove looked, “Ove, do you want to say anything?” Irene had asked in curiosity, but Ove had just shook his head before going and swimming upwards, Irene curious, had went and followed him, wondering why he was upset while Namor had looked at the two of them and if that was truly what he thought it was, than there might be something for the future of Atlantis.

Beach, Krakoa

The two of them had come up, Atlantean Irene had come up after Ove, going and joining with her dupes as they had melded into one, “Are you okay Ove?” Irene asked as he looked to the water, “He didn’t even acknowledge me,” Ove said to her, “It was as if I didn’t exist.” he had said, making them all look towards him, “Who?” Bling had asked, “Namor.” Nomi had said, knowing she got lucky with Lorna and Erik.

He nodded at that, “He talked to Irene, saying that her dad was a useful teammate.” he said, sounding irritated, “It was as if I didn’t exist!” he said, slashing at the sand with his trident, seeing this, they started to back away, “Hey, screw him.” Irene said to Ove, surprising him, “You’re stronger than an Asgardian! You can enchant people with your voice and you’ve got that sick energy blast!” Irene listed off.

“If he can’t see you then he’s a blind idiot!” she had told Ove, making him chuckle and laugh which the others had joined in, “Thank you, Irene.” he had said, offering a one armed hug which she took, “Alright, let’s get you–” she started before she got a text, “Can we hang out?” Came from Gabby Kinney, reading that, she shrugged, “Okay, gotta go,” she told them, making them curious on where she was going.

“I’ll take…” she said to them before grabbing Nomi, “Tah!” Irene said to them, looking like a pink elf before vanishing with Nomi, “She’s got you all wrapped around her finger, doesn’t she?” she asked them, Ove and Linea in particular, “With those three, big time.” Azari said as Pavel and TJ laughed, making the pair of them glare while wondering what the two were planning.

The Boneyard, Krakoa, New Mutants #15

Gabby was pouting at the door when the two of them appeared, “Reenie!” Gabby went, hugging her as Nomi had tried to throw up, “We here to see your brother?” she had asked, “Nope,” Gabby said, “Amahl and the others are busy so I–” “Wait, Amahl? The Shadow King?” Irene asked, in curiosity and interest, “Yep!” Gabby had said, “He’s awesome! Teaching us how to go and synergize.” Gabby said as both Irene and Nomi were curious, “Okay, so where now?” Irene asked.

“I’m gonna head to Akademos, you wanna tag along?” Gabby had asked of them, “Why now? It might be fun.” Irene said, using Catseye to make herself a cat as well, extremely fluffy with her eye color and with auburn and white fur, “Eeee!” Gabby went, going to grab her as Irene leapt into Nomi’s arms, purring happily and excited as they had headed to Akademos.

Irene had watched Gabby with the ferals that she was training with or at least trying to as Nomi had her playing with a cat toy that she just couldn’t resist, that is until Gabby crashed and approached the ferals, raising her hand to greet the one in white, but he didn’t seem happy to see her, she only caught the tail end of it but… “We’ve never met before. The four of us died on Genosha.” he told Gabby.

“Whatever you think you experienced, it was clearly a delusion.” he told her, making her hiss as Irene grew and became a smilodon, snarling at him for upsetting Gabby as she approached her and the two that were comforting her, “Hey Reenie.” Gabby said, stroking her head as the ferals noticed her, “What–?” one asked, which was when she changed into her real self.

“Hi there, my name’s Irene, daughter of Rogue and Gambit.” she had told them, as she did, they noticed that her eight spikes were coming out of her back with her skin becoming snow with, “Hey, you good Reenie?” Gabby had asked, making Irene curious before she saw that her right hand was becoming a tentacle with Scott Summers eyes where a suction cup would be, “Uh oh.” she said.

“Uh oh?” Nomi had asked in worry as Irene had started to grow in size, “Sorry, I gotta go,” Nomi said, moving to Bar Sinister as Nomi followed, “Wait, are you okay?” Nomi had asked her, “Yeah, I just need to empty my storage, see you at The Green Lagoon.” she told Gabby, a hand growing out of the end and waving as she had hurried to go and stop herself from becoming a cronenberg again.

Gabby was unsure what was going on but she hoped that she was okay as the young mutant had went to the others, a little glum now but hoping that her friends were okay since Irene seemed to be one of the few that didn’t treat her like the Wolverine’s little sister or as a clone, it made her feel better and she hoped that it wasn’t going to take her friend away from her.
