Melvin has made Matt a new suit. It sports a new padded stomach area, which Melvin assured Matt would protect from any blows, much like his helmet protects his head.

“Same colour as before?” Matt asks as Foggy, who is sat on the couch, inspecting the new suit.

“Would it matter?” Foggy responds, rubbing his fingers over the fabric of the suit. He has again protested to the idea of Matt going out and being Daredevil in his condition, but he knows that when Matt has an idea in his head there is no use trying to dissuade him. Foggy nods and tosses the suit back to Matt. “Yeah – looks good. Same as before, just sturdier.”

“Good. Elektra’s texted the address for tomorrow.”

Elektra has spent the last week teaming up with the Black Widow. They’ve been all over Hell’s Kitchen, interrogating criminals until they could find the safehouse for the Hand/Hydra operation. They managed to wrangle the information out of a Russian sex trafficker, and now Clint, Nat, Elektra and Matt are preparing to remove the New York safehouse from the map.

“Frank said he’ll be there tomorrow,” Karen says from seat on the armchair. She’s curled up with a blanket and a mug of coffee, and she’s wearing a pair of fuzzy socks Matt bought her for Christmas last year. “I haven’t told him your situation.”

“Frank will be a good addition,” Matt replies with a smile. “I would contact Wade, if I thought he wouldn’t nag me the entire time.”

“Wade is an absolute pain in the ass, but he does get the job done,” Foggy says with nostalgic smile, and Matt wonders if he’s thinking back to the time Wade held an entire restaurant hostage so Foggy could get them to make Matt’s favourite dish for their anniversary just because it was no longer on the menu. Matt, understandably, was outraged at this, but he didn’t complain when he was eating his meal.

“More numbers would be better,” Karen says to Matt with a shrug. “Maybe you should call him.”

“And if Wade Wilson finds out I’m pregnant? The entire world will know about it in an hour!” Matt says with a sigh.

Foggy thinks about it. “Well, just be careful around him. Plus, I don’t think you’re giving the guy enough credit.”

“Foggy, you once saw the man flirt with himself in the mirror. I don’t think there’s a lot of credit that can be given. You’re just saying this because you want to sleep with him.”

Foggy tries to protest, but Karen has already started cackling like a witch. “It’s true! You give him heart eyes every time he’s around! And the way you talk! Mr Wilson, oooh, what big muscles you have. Wow, are those scars real?”

Shrugging his shoulders, Foggy gesticulates, “Hey! He has charisma! Plus, Frank’s invited and you know how Matt gets around him!”

Matt’s eyebrows shoot up. He and Frank had almost slept together years ago, but when Karen started dating him, Matt decided it would be best for all their relationships if he didn’t get involved. However, Matt does still enjoy flirting with the man.

“And Frank has nearly killed Matt many, many times!” Foggy adds.

Karen chuckles at this. “And he’s promised now that he’ll only try to murder him if he’s really annoying.”

Matt frowns. “I’m never annoying.”

“Mattie, sweetie, you most certainly are.”

Matt feigns a gasp of shock and collapses next to Foggy. He rests his head on Foggy’s lap and brings his knees up so that he’s snuggled next to the other lawyer. Immediately Foggy’s fingers begin running through Matt’s hair, and he can’t help but wonder what he did to deserve two partners like this.

Karen climbs out of her seat and budges Matt’s legs over. She’s dragged over her blanket, and soon the three of them are tangled together underneath it while Foggy badly narrates a film for Matt. His hand is clasped in Karen’s, and she’s absentmindedly rubbing little circles onto the back of his hand with her thumb. He gives it a squeeze, and he feels her shift to look at him.

Leaning over, and rests her head on Matt’s shoulder. He can’t help but smell the scent of her shampoo, the same stuff that Foggy uses because Foggy is cheap and thinks that Karen won’t notice. Matt wonders if Foggy realises that he notices, and if he wanted, he could tell Karen, who would probably put her precious hair products under lock and key. Matt, however, just wants to see how long it takes until she notices herself.

He lets his head fall against hers, his nose burying into her strawberry blonde hair. He asked her, after they first met, what she looked like. Karen described herself as a plain blonde, which was something Matt would never have been able to argue, however Foggy later sat him down and described Karen as the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. He said her hair was golden with a hint of red, just like it was caressed by the slightest blush. He said her eyes were like ocean, and her smile was the most infectious in the room. It was at that point Matt knew his partner was head over heels for the woman. And he was too.

Karen hadn’t understood their relationship at first. Firstly, she assumed they were both gay, and was shocked when Foggy continued to go on dates with Marci. It was later that they revealed their polyamorous status, when they knew she was someone they could trust. Karen expressed her interest in Matt first, and then she fell slowly in love with Foggy. Matt understands how that goes – Foggy is one of the best people he’s ever met, and just being in his presence makes you love him even more, and so the three of them slowly fell into a routine. And that routine blossomed into their partnership.

Foggy still occasionally sees Marci. Karen is seeing Frank. And Matt…well he dabbles sometimes. But this is their partnership. It works for them, and, right in this moment, surrounded by the two people he loves most in the world, Matt couldn’t be happier.
