The Day Of The Perfect Date
Synopsis : For their 2 year anniversary Steve wants to do something special for Natasha. He wants to plan the perfect date but barely anything goes right. (Romanogers centric)
Steve had finally found the person he was meant to be. It took him a lot of time to get over Peggy but he knew that she had lived a happy and content life. But he didn't expect that something can happen between him and his red head best friend while on the run from the government. Natasha had been by his side since the moment they had started working together and during the fight with Tony, she had switched sides at the last moment and helped them so when they both expressed their feelings for each other, it was barely a surprise. It's been 2 years and he has been madly in love with her since then. Same goes for Natasha. She had found someone she could finally let down her guard with after Clint. Steve knew how much it their relationship meant to her. To both of them. So he wanted to do something special for their 2 years anniversary. Not getting any idea, he called up Clint and he agreed to meet. Clint gave him the idea that he should take her on a perfect date with everything she loved. Steve liked that idea. He knew she loved a quite nice evening by the beach and that's what he planned. Tony had helped him rent a gazebo right by the beach. It would be decorated with fairy lights. He arranged for two bottles of Ruinart Brut Rosé at Drizly which was her favorite champagne and would personally cook her favorite date night food, Pasta with Savory Jack Sausage and Parmesan. Everything was perfectly planned and the special day was in two days.
The morning of first October began uneventfully. Steve usually woke up early in the morning. Natasha on the other hand was a late sleeper. When he came back after freshening up, he found the red head hugging her pillow, rolled on his side of the bed. He smiled. Seeing her at comfort always gave him pleasure. She had been through a lot and he was happy that he could make her happy.
Natasha : What are you doing there staring at me?
Steve's chain of thoughts was broken by a small, sleepy voice from the bed. Natasha was slightly propped up. A small smile playing on her lips. God she was beautiful, Steve thought.
Steve : Nothing, honey. I was just getting ready. Just came back from the run.
Natasha : Then come here.
Natasha stretched out her left hand. Steve went and sat by her. She kissed him lightly. He was going to wish her Happy Anniversary but then suddenly he was reminded what Tony had said.
"It would be better if you act like you don't remember about the day. So she'll be thrown off and when you surprise her, she'll be extremely happy"
So he dropped it.
Natasha : Hey I was thinking I took a day off today so can we spend the day together?
Steve : Umm it's a good idea but I already promised the guys that I'd go to the nicks today.
Natasha : Really?
Steve : Ya.
Actually, he had asked the other guys to help him set up the date.
Natasha : Even today?
Steve : Why? What's today?
Natasha's face dropped. He didn't remember. She still tried to keep up her smile.
Natasha : Nothing. I was thinking of hanging out with Pepper and Maria myself. I'll just go freshen up.
Steve could see the disappointment in her face as she went to the washroom. He hated to this to her and just wanted the facade over.
THE BAR (later in the day)
Natasha told the girls everything that happened in the morning.
Natasha : I just don't know what happened.
Pepper : That's actually wierd. Like if it was Tony I would've understood but I never knew Steve would do this.
Maria : Ya I thought he was one of the good ones.
Natasha : Idk maybe he's too busy nowadays or that I'm not good enough for him any more.
Natasha was mad.
Pepper : Hey don't think like that. I'm sure there's some reason behind this.
On the other hand, Steve along with Tony, Sam, Bucky and Clint was preparing for the night when Steve got a call from Phil Coulson.
"Hello Phil"
"Hey Steve, I was just calling because we got news of a hostage situation, we need you"
"What? But I don't think I can now."
"Please Steve, there are children. They need you."
Steve sighed. He had to his duty. He agreed to go.
Steve : Guys I'm really sorry but I've go. There's been a hostage situation.
Tony : What?
Steve : Ya i have to go. Can you all please take care of this?
Bucky : Don't worry Steve. We will set up everything.
Steve : Thanks Buck. Thank guys.
He quickly went and changed into his Captain America suit. Taking his shield he began to leave when he saw Natasha.
Natasha : Where are going in suit?
Steve : Nat, I've been called to rescue some kids but I promise I'll be back soon.
Natasha : Oh OK.
Steve left. Natasha was let down. Once again. But she couldn't help this one so she just went to her room and closed the door.
Steve got back very late. The mission went well and he rescue all the hostages but it had taken a lot of time. He was just dusty but fine. When he came in, the guys were waiting for him.
Tony : Where were you? It's ten.
Steve : I know I know. Oh god everything is going wrong.
Sam : You know Natasha was very upset. I think Maria even saw her cry. She's in the roof. I think you should freshen up and go meet her.
Steve : Yes yes I'll go right away.
After getting cleaned, went up to the roof. He was very anxious. But when he opened the roof door he didn't expect what he saw. The roof was decorated with fairy lights. The ones that he had got for the date. Every other arrangement was there too. The champagnes, although the food was bought in as he didn't have the time to cook. And there was Natasha facing back.
Steve : Nat?
Natasha turned around. She wore a gorgeous red dress with her hair let down. Steve was surprised.
Steve : What is happening?
Natasha : You wanted it to be a surprise.
Natasha smiled. Steve smiled even bigger.
Natasha : Happy Anniversary honey.
Steve : Happy Anniversary.
They both kissed.
Steve : But how did you know? How'd you do it?
Natasha : Well... Sam told me everything so with a little help from Tony I brought our date here.
Steve : I'm so sorry I had been a complete idiot.
Natasha laughed.
Natasha : That you were. You know Steve, I don't need anything big to make a date perfect. A date anywhere with you is a perfect date.
Steve nodded, smiling. They both sat down.
Steve : You look gorgeous.
Natasha : Thanks. How was the mission by the way?
Steve : It good. Everyone came out okay.
Natasha : Great.
Steve sighed.
Steve : You know I wanted to tell you something. More like ask you something. I wanted to do this at the beach but I'm doing here anyways.
He stood up taking her hand, making her stand as well.
Steve : I wanted to make it special but seeing that I have messed up I'm doing it now.
Saying so, he knelt down on one knee. Natasha's hands instinctively went to her mouth. She knew what he was doing.
Steve : Nat you are the most important person in my life. You've been my best friend, my partner for the longest time. You've been by my side all the time.
He pulled out a small box from his pocket and opened it. In it was the most beautiful ring Nat had ever seen.
Steve : You mean the world to me. Will you do me the honor of making you feel the same way? Will you marry me?
Natasha choked back on tears.
Natasha : Yes. Yes yes.
Steve stood up and picked up Natasha and twirled her as they kissed. He put her down and slipped the ring on her finger.
Natasha : It's beautiful.
They both stood there still, their foreheads touching. Steve broke the silence.
Steve : May I have the dance?
Natasha smiled.
Natasha : You may.
He turned on the song as they danced the night away to 'Can't help falling in love with you' by Elvis. They both swayed as it played in the background.

The next morning, everyone was at the breakfast table except for Clint. Peter and Pepper were there too. Pepper was making breakfast that day for a change when Steve and Natasha descended down the stairs and stood next to each other. Steve cleared his throat.
Steve : Guys we have something to tell.
Everybody turned towards them.
Pepper : Oh hey. How was the date last night?
Natasha : It was amazing and..... We are engaged!
Natasha propped up her left hand and displayed the ring. Everyone gathered around them, congratulating them.
Sam : Oh my God I didn't know he had it in him.
Bucky : Congrats pal.
Pepper hugged Natasha.
Pepper : I'm so happy for you.
Natasha : Thanks. I've to go call Clint now.
It was amazing. It was indeed a 'Perfect Date'.
