“I’m getting deja vu.”
You wake up happier than usual on Saturday morning even with everything that happened recently, especially yesterday afternoon, this was because of the halloween party you were going to later on that day.
You were so excited you ended up spending the entire day getting ready, getting your mum to help you fuss over all the little bits like makeup and jewellery. She was excited for you too. It had been a while since you’ve done anything fun and social.
Before you even knew it, it was time to head to Harry’s house. You waved your mother goodbye and stepped into the street feeling insecure at first. It wasn’t late enough for everyone to be in costume but it wasn’t that early that people gave you weird looks for your appearance. Another reason you were feeling insecure was because of the large scars and scabs that were revealed by your costume. Your mother had assured you you looked great before you left but you couldn’t help feeling weird about your outfit and the scars. You hadn’t told anyone, not even your mum how you had got them and knew people at the party would ask questions. You weren’t sure how you’d answer yet, most likely a lie that sounded believable or maybe even the truth.. missing out the bit about meeting Spider-Man of course.
The door to Harry’s apartment had a man stood outside it, he looked like a body guard. The street was filled with unfamiliar and familiar faces. Most likely people form school but also some of Harry’s own friends.
You decided you didn’t feel like talking to that bodyguard outside alone and pulled out you phone to call MJ.
“Hey, I’m outside, should I just-“ You couldn’t finish your sentence before the call ended. You weren’t sure of what to do so you walked to the door. Before you started to speak to the bodyguard, MJ opened the front door.
”Hiya, come on in!” She pulled you in through the door and then into a hug, “So sorry about ending the call, it was too loud up there for me to hear anything. “ she smiled as she let you out of the hug and pulled you into the elevator.
“What’s up with the guy outside?” You questioned MJ hoping to start a conversation so the lift journey wouldn’t be awkward, “He was kinda intimidating.”
“Oh him? Yeah, Harry said his dad hired him to make sure no one he didn’t know would get into the apartment and break or steal anything.” She answered, you wondered how rich Harry’s dad must be if he could hire a body guard. You flushed as you remembered who his father was.
“Thats a bit cautious, dot you think?” You kept the conversation going trying to ignore the fact you forgot who Harry’s dad was.
“Yeah but that’s just how his dad is, I haven’t properly met him yet.” MJ looked a little sad, “Hope he likes me.. we’re having dinner next week.”
“You’ll do great, I’m sure of it.” You patted her on the back, “My mum likes you.” You smiled reassuring her and she smiled back.
The elevator stops, you knew you were getting close to your destination as the music was louder than ever. MJ just grabbed your hand and let you to the apartment and then through it. The place was packed with people dancing, talking and drinking.
You felt a little out of place but still excited to be there. Party’s aren’t really your thing but you go to them anyway and it was a good way to clear your head for a while. MJ let go of you and told you to have fun.
You walk over to the middle of the room where the drinks were and poured yourself one. Then, as you turned around, you cursed yourself for thinking you’d actually have any peace from your problems at this party.
Gwen is friends with MJ and Peter is friends with Harry. Obviously both of them would be here. At least Gwen was looking a lot better than the last time you saw her you thought.
You see Gwen on one side of the room with Peter and on the other you see MJ and Harry.
You decide to go to MJ first.
You greet each other and her boyfriend greets you as well.
“I’m going to talk to Gwen and get it all over with.” You said feeling like it is going to be easier to say than do.
“I’m happy for you but maybe you should do it later? You’re meant to be enjoying yourself first.” She smiles and passes you a drink.
“Thanks but I’ve already got one.”
“You’ll need another one after you down the firs one with us,” she smiles and takes her cup to her mouth, “Come on, you know you want to!”
She was right, having some fun doesn’t sound like a bad idea.
20 minutes later and you’re already drunk. You knew MJ would make fun of you about how it didn't take very long to get you drunk.
You also knew that approaching Peter and apologising to him in your drunken state was a terrible idea but you did it anyway.
You end up approaching Peter when Gwen left to go to the bathroom.
Peter’s eyes widen in shock when you made your way to him and started apologising.
“Yeah, thanks,” He laughed out of surprise, he really didn't expect you to go anywhere near him after yesterday. Then he did something surprising, “You wanna get out if here and talk properly?” It was now your turn to be surprised, you end up slightly losing your footing but don’t fall. Peter caught you and laughed again, “Maybe when you’re more sober?”
You just breathed a quick “Yeah,” at him.
Peter tilted his head and repeated what you said softly, “Yeah?”
You wondered how you could have ever been so angry and some one so.. you weren’t sure what word fit. He was caring? Nice? Attractive? But those words didn’t describe how likeable he could be when he actually talked to you.
”No..” You quickly said thinking more about how likeable he was. You understood now why Gwen liked him so much. You still had to talk to Gwen before you left the party so you couldn’t leave yet.
“No..?” Peter looked at you with sad eyes that almost made you melt. Made you wish you had worded your answer differently.
“Not yet!” You shouted at him quickly, “I meant not yet.. need to talk to someone first.” You said more calmly.
Peter finally let you go and you fix yourself up.
“Gwen,” You look at Peter through your eyelashes, “Is she your friend?”
“We’re good friends,” He looks at you slightly confused, “Why?”
“It’ll tell you after I talk to Gwen.” And with that, you turn away from him and head toward the bathroom which you had seen Gwen go into earlier.
The bathroom was quite large with a door leading to the actually toilet thats locked. Gwen’s still inside. You lock the actual bathroom door behind you and go to knock on the other door where Gwen is but it opens before you can. She is clearly upset and clearly still ill.
She accidentally knocks into you and her eyes (which were puffy from crying) widen in shock then fear and then she turns and throws up into the toilet again.
You help her out and hold her hair back.
Then you laugh and she looks back at you after finishing, “I’m getting deja vu.”
You hear a huff from her and then her whispering “No..” at you.
“Come on.. its a funny story,” You let go of her hair and she sits next to you against the wall, “You remember it, don’t you?”
”I remember it being a not so funny story.” You laugh together as you are reminded of Halloween last year. Gwen and you were in the exact same position except Gwen was throwing up because she was too drunk and not because she was so sick. Your laughter ends and you finally apologise for everything you’ve said to her.
“It’s in the past now,” Gwen smiles at you, “And I’m sorry too. You need to know me and Spider-Man are just friends. I will get over my feelings for him, I promise.”
You thank her even if you can still see the hurt in her eyes. You decide to ignore it for now.
“Let’s skip class Monday to talk properly.” You don’t ask, you know she’ll come with you whether she wants to or not.
Gwen only nods in agreement.
You stand and help her up then tell her you’re leaving, “I’ll text you about Monday when I get time, I think you should head back too so text me when get home.”
“Yeah, i think so too,” She smiles again and grabs your hand before you can leave, “I’m really glad we talked.”
Gwen looks like she’s about to cry again so you old her hand a while longer, “Yeah, me too.”
You leave the bathroom feeling a lot more sober then when you first entered. You wave goodbye to Gwen as she walks to the front door of the apartment and then make your way around the room to find Peter with MJ and Harry.
You tell MJ that Gwen left and that you were leaving too. Peter and Harry follow the two of you out the door as MJ wanted to walk you out.
MJ hugs you and Harry just says his goodbye. You had finally properly met him. He was an alright guy and rich so as long MJ was happy, so were you.
Peter offers to walk you home in front of the others so it doesn’t look like you had planned leaving together. The others don’t complain and Peter walks you towards an empty alley way.
“You gonna swing me home?” You asked kinda excited at where you were heading with your soulmate.
“No way, you're still drunk and I don’t want you to throw up all over me,” He smiles at the disappointed look on your face, “Maybe later.”
It didn't take long for Peter to get you to your house, he knew quiet a few shortcuts.
“Okay, this is where I swing you,” He grabs onto your wait, “Hold on tight.” You do as you're told. You hugged him, he felt and smelt amazing yet slightly intoxicating.
He’s web hits the banister of the eight floor an he starts climbing it slowly, making sure to be carful you don’t fall.
“That wasn’t swinging and we’re on the wring floor.” You let go as he lands on the 7th floor instead on the 6th.
“I know,” He gives you a mischievous smile, “This is where I live.” He laughed at your shocked expression and opened the window for you to climb in.
Peter helps you in and closes the window behind you.
“My rooms on the other side of the apartment. My Aunts not in so don’t worry.” He leads the way to him room.
Your shock turns to frustration. Your soulmate lived above you for years and your best friend knew it and you’re only finding out now?
You sit with Peter on his bed and your frustration quickly subsides.
The two of you end you talking about nothing in particular and getting to know each other for the next hour until his aunt, learning her name to be May, came home and Peter had to sneak you out.
You’ve finally found some peace in your life even if it took your drunk self to take control.
You finally got home happy instead of angry or crying.
Things were really looking up.
