“I don’t want things to change,”

It’s Wednesday, you’ve been looking around for Gwen everywhere but she’s nowhere to be found. You knew you had to confront her no matter what.

MJ told you Gwen was ill and didn't come in which wasn’t really like her. She was always in even if she was ill. You didnt want to assume but it sounded like she was avoiding you.

During your talk with MJ and running around trying to find Gwen, you end up always finding Peter. Every classroom you where in and every corner you went around he was there. It felt like he was following you but you decided to ignore him for the entire day. Gwen was much more important.

After your classes end you walk down to past Gwen’s work to make sure you didn't catch her on her way out. Even if it was unlikely, you decide to call her as you stop at the bottom of her work steps.

Obviously there was no answer. You get up again not sure if you should head straight to hers or just go home for the day. You call her another two times, there was still no answer. You needed to have this confusing situation sorted out as soon as possible and with that thought you end up heading to her house anyway.

It didn’t take long before you were stood outside of her home regretting your decision. You decide to call her one last time.

Gwen answered.

“Hello?” You said first, hoping she didn’t answer on accident but it wasn’t her who spoke back.

“Hello? Gwen’s phone was ringing for a while so I answered.” He said.

“Oh hello sir, I was just wondering if Gwen was home?” You asked, making sure you sounded respectful. You didn't want to offend the head of the police department.

‘Yes she is, she’s quite ill.” He sounded worried, “You can come see her if you’d like?”

You tell him you’d love to but first you wanted to get her something. It would be quite surprising to show up to her house unannounced and interrogate her when she’s ill.

You go and buy her a small gift, her favourite flowers and a small box of chocolates. Even if you where going through a rough patch, you were still meant to be best friends.

You ring the door bell and Gwen’s father lets you in to the building, you go up the elevator to her floor, once again regretting your decision. You knew you’d have to do this at one point but right now doesn’t feel like the best time. You slowly make your way to the door. You sigh and think about turning around but see that Gwen’s mother had just turned the corner and was walking towards you.

You couldn’t turn around now.

You greet Gwen’s mother and explain to her that you where coming to see how Gwen was doing. She let you in and you went straight to Gwen’s room. Her mother told you she would make you a hot chocolate and bring it to Gwen’s room in a bit. That means you cant investigate Gwen and Spider-Man’s relationship yet.

It takes all the confidence you have to knock on her door. You’ve come so far and cant back out now.

“I’ll be there in a second.” She yelled from inside, you could hear her bed covers shuffling as she got up you answer her door.

She opened the door and look surprised to see you there but not annoyed.

“Hey..” you speak first, hoping to ease some tension, “How are you?”

”I’m so ill,” she sighs and you laugh, “I’m sure I’ll be fine though”

You hand Gwen the flowers and chocolates which she thanks you for. She lets you into her room and sits back down on her bed in the corner of the room. It felt so familiar. Even if you haven’t been in her room for a while it feels like you’ve lived there forever. You couldn’t remember how many times you’ve slept at hers in her comfy bed. You couldn’t remember how many times you had dinner with her family, at that point you were practically their child too.

She asked you to open the window by the balcony door.

“I think all the stress recently made me sick.” Gwen said after patting the other side of her bed for you to sit on. You slide your shoes off and join her.

“Yeah? Exams are coming up aren’t they..” You knew this wasn’t the best time to confront her but knew you had to.

”It is our last year after all.” She coughed out.

You didn’t want to make her worse but also had to confront her.

“Gwen.. i need to talk to you,” it’s now or never, “What’s your deal with Spider-Man?”

She decided to play dumb, “Spider-Man? I’ve got nothing to do with him.. shouldn’t i be asking you that question?” She tried laughing it off but it wasn’t working.

“Please Gwen.. Don’t lie to me,” You pull out your phone to show her the picture you took of them together, “I saw you, please be honest with me.”

She’s looked absolutely mortified.

She started to panic, “I’m sorry, please don’t be mad at me.. I don’t want things to change,” she started crying, “I don’t want things to change between us. Please.”

You didn't know what to say, you had your suspicions but didn’t expect them to be true. You had to male sure.

“Why would things change..” you got up off the bed, “Gwen what’s going on, tell me the truth.” You didn’t want to raise your voice to bring attention to your self but couldn’t contain your anger. You wanted answers.

“I’m in.. love..” she looked down, her head was in her hands while she cried violently.

“Gwen..” you didn’t know what o do.

“I’m in love with-“ you didn’t let her finish her sentence.

You didn’t want to hear anymore. You couldn’t listen anymore. You couldn’t take this anymore.

You don’t know what to do and just run out. You ran into the hallway and quickly put your shoes back on.

You hear Gwen run after you, she almost makes it to you but starts to cough. She stops and you hear a thud on the floor behind you. Her mother runs past you towards her, holding two cups in her hands which where spilling over as she ran.

You where already out the door by the time you heard her mother yell for Gwen’s father.

You made it home, your mother was in the living room and you didn't want to disrupt her nor didn't you want her to question you on your whereabouts so you crept to your room. You opened the door slowly and fell onto your bed.

Once again you were crying on your bed with no idea what to do next.
