“Why are you stopping us?” Bucky asked, throwing a punch at Spider-Man.
“You have a metal arm? That is awesome dude!” Spider-Man exclaimed before he remembered that he had been asked a question. “Well, you’re breaking the laws by going into countries unauthorized and wrecking their stuff, and non-powered forces would be like cannon fodder against you guys, so we got sent in!”
“No, no, I meant why are you stopping us from stopping the other Winter Soldiers?” Spider-Man blinked.
“Other Winter Soldiers? I thought Mr. Falcon had been complaining about how everyone had their own gimmick now, why are there people stealing your own?” Spider-Man joked, while Sam paled.
“How the hell did you hear me? You were on the top of the ceiling!” Spider-Man shrugged and webbed Redwing to the far wall before it could attack him.
“Super-hearing. But seriously, how are there more Winter Soldiers? Mr. Stark, are you guys getting this?”
“We’re getting it Underoos, but Steve isn’t answering our questions. For example, why the hell did he not tell trust me to get things done? We would have been able to help him if he had given us time! I relayed the part about the five Winter Soldiers to the council and they were scrambling to get everything approved when I left! After all, nothing motivates people like thinking they’re going to die soon.” Tony responded through the comms. Spider-Man relayed what Tony had said to Bucky. Bucky froze in shock.
“What? But. . . But Stevie had said that a panel wouldn’t be able to approve anything in time.”
“Yup, that was a lie, or at least, something he thought was true.” Tony quipped. “It makes me wonder what else Steve has and hasn’t said. Did he tell you guys about the meeting I had with him where I told him about the deal I had secured for you guys? You know, the ones that were really hard to get that would make all of your actions go away, that would make it so that Bucky could get help at an American Psych Center instead of a Wakandan prison? The one that would make all your actions legit? My promise to motion to get the Accords amended, which I had already been planning on doing?” Spider-Man said all of this out loud to Sam and Bucky, who looked shocked and angry respectively.
“No, no he did not.” Bucky seethed, running to jump out of the terminal window. “Steven Grant Rogers, get your ass over here right now!” Bucky jumped out the window, landing near where Natasha and Scott had been fighting. Sam flew down right behind him while Bucky pushed in between the two fighting. He was a man on a mission, and that mission was giving Steve the ass-whooping that Steve’s mother wasn’t around to give. He walked right up to Steve, ignoring T’Challa and Rhodey and dragged Steve away from the fight by his ear.
“What the hell Bucky!” Steve whined.
“Shut up Steve! You are going to sit here, and you are going to listen to me. You are not acting like the man I once knew! I didn’t ask for you to do any of this! I was making a life in Romania, I was healing! You had every opportunity to get us help for the other Winter Soldiers! But no, you decided that the safest hands were your own! Do you realize how much that sounds like a dictator? That kind of mentality was the one Hydra had, and it’s a slippery slope! So stop thinking irrationally!” He turned towards T’Challa.
“King T’Challa, I’m so, so sorry for what happened to your father, and I can understand how you’d be furious with me, however, I was in Romania at the time. I don’t knowwho the real threat is, but I promise you I will help you track him down and bring him to justice.” He finally turned towards Tony.
“And Dr. Stark, you have my apologies as well. I never wanted to hurt Howard, and Maria was innocent. Your parents deserved better than what I was forced to do to them.” Tony tilted his head in confusion.
“What? I’m sorry, I don’t understand.”
“December 16, 1991 I was sent to retrieve the recreated super soldier serum out of the trunk of Howard’s car. I was ordered to leave no witnesses.” Rhodey flew over towards Tony and stepped out of the suit, coaxing Tony to do the same. When they were both out of their suits, Rhodey hugged him while Tony sobbed.
“My mom. . . God, my mom. . .”
“I know Tones, I know.” Bucky turned back to T’Challa to give Tony a small amount of privacy and held his hands out.
“I surrender.” Steve quickly followed, not wanting Bucky to go anywhere without him, and the rest of the team followed. Within the hour, they were put in temporary holding cells with Tony and Rhodey getting permission to go to Siberia to deal with the Winter Soldiers and Zemo. All the Soldiers were reported as dead, and Zemo was brought into custody, and Spider-Man went home to his aunt without a scratch, proud of the good that he had done that day.
