Note
Hi everyone! I’m rewriting an old fic of mine from last year. I had most of it written and then never posted it because I really didn’t like my writing. It wasn’t something I was really proud of and I had wanted it to go in a different direction than it did. So, here goes round 2. Hope you all enjoy.

Peter

3 months later

Peter feels the familiar rush of adrenaline as he leaps off a high rise downtown, relishing in the feeling of the wind whipping past him. He does some flips and spins just for the fun of it before shooting out a web and swinging through the streets. It’s fairly early on a Monday night. Peter just snuck out of his bedroom window not too long ago. It’s the first week of April, and Peter is thankful that the sun is staying up a little later and it’s finally warming up a bit for spring. He doesn’t love the winter, and it’s not just because he doesn’t own a winter coat, although that does contribute. Spring just makes him feel so much more alive.

He’s in a great mood. School is going great, he has enough to eat every day, and his time with his dad is awesome. The days he gets to spend with Mr. Stark are always his favorite. He learns a lot, and unless Peter is completely misreading the situation, but it actually seems like his dad cares about him and likes having him around.

Things aren’t perfect, but they’re enough. He’s still living with the Pattersons, which is…fine. It is what it is. He’s surviving. And he still hasn’t told Mr. Stark that he’s his father, which honestly weighs on his mind every single day. Ned tries to convince him about once a week to tell him, but Peter just hasn’t been able to work up the courage. At this point, he thinks he trusts Mr. Stark enough. They’ve been working together for months, and the man has been nothing but good to him. His problem now is that things are too good. He knows that Mr. Stark isn’t going to react well to the news, and the risk of a bad reaction worsens with each passing week. Peter knows this. But even now, he doesn’t think he’d be able to take the rejection if his dad doesn’t want him. He doesn’t know if he can risk losing what they have. So he keeps quiet and tries to keep the guilt about lying at bay. But other than that, Peter is doing great.

Speaking of his dad, Peter thinks he’s going to go pay him a visit. He’s learned in the past couple of months that Mr. Stark is okay with him dropping in on patrols, so he does it every so often now when it’s a slow night.

He makes his way to the tower, keeping an eye out for any crime along the way and seeing none. He scales up the side of Stark Tower as quickly as he can until he reaches his dad’s main floor. He picks a window, puts a hand on it for a second, and Friday automatically slides it open for him. He happily slides in, pulling his mask off.

“Mr. Stark!” He calls, looking around. The lights turn on to reveal an empty living room.

“Friday, is Mr. Stark home?” He asks out loud.

“Yes, Peter. Boss is in the lab and has been notified of your arrival.”

A few seconds later, the elevator doors open and Peter’s father comes strolling out, wiping his hands off on an oil stained rag.

“Hey, Pete!” He calls, walking over.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt your lab time.” He says sheepishly. “You didn’t have to come up here if you were busy.”

Mr. Stark just waves him off. “Don’t be ridiculous, kid. I wasn’t up to much. Just messing around. You can come join me for a while if you like.”

Peter shakes his head. “No thanks. I don’t want to bother you too much. I was just having a slow patrol so I figured I’d stop by. I can go.” He gestures back to the window and turns to leave, but Mr. Stark quickly latches onto his arm, pulling him back. The man wraps an arm around his shoulders and starts leading him back into the penthouse.

“You’re never a bother, Pete. Are you hungry? Did you get your patrol snack yet?” He asks, guiding him into the kitchen.

“Not yet. I haven’t been out for that long.”

Tony sits him down at the island and starts pulling sandwich supplies out of the fridge.

Peter stands up quickly to try to take over, still trying not to be a burden. He just wanted to say hi to his dad real quick. He didn’t want to seem like he came because he needed something.

“Mr. Stark, really, you don’t have to-“

“Ah ah ah, sit.” The man commands, pointing back at the chair. “You’re being ridiculous again. Growing spiders need lots of calories. I bought stuff specifically so I could feed you when you came over. Or rather, I had someone else buy it and bring it to me. I don’t go grocery shopping. Or eat deli meat for that matter. So you better eat this or it’ll be contributing to the food waste problem in this country. Is that what you want?” Mr. Stark asks him accusingly.

“Well, no, I guess not.”

“Good.” The man responds quickly, butter knife covered in mayonnaise in hand. “Then sit and enjoy this delicious sandwich I’m making you.”

Peter sits down again with a laugh. “You didn’t even wash your hands. You’re going to get oil all over my sandwich.”

Without missing a beat, Tony puts down the supplies and reaches across the island to rub a smear of grease on Peter’s forehead.

“Hey!” Peter yells, swatting the man’s hand away and rubbing at his oily forehead. “Not funny Mr. Stark. You’re going to make me get acne.”

Mr. Stark is at the sink washing his hands off and laughing. “You’re fine. Spiders can’t get acne.”

Peter huffs. “Well teenagers can.” He grumbles.

Tony keeps chuckling as he finishes up. He slides a plate over a few seconds later with three slightly oily sandwiches stacked on top of each other.

“Eat up, Spider-Boy.” He commands, and Peter happily obliges, digging in to the top sandwich.

“Thanks, Mr. Stark. I really was hungry.”

“I know you were.” The man responds with a smirk. “So how’d that test go today?” He asks.

Peter shrugs, mouth full of sandwich. He swallows before responding.

“It was really easy. You show me way more advanced math in the lab then we learn in class. I don’t think I’m going to have any trouble in that class.”

“I’m telling you, Pete. We can get you enrolled in some college classes any time you like.”

Peter just rolls his eyes as a response. They’ve had this conversation many times and he keeps saying no. He definitely doesn’t want to put college classes on top of everything else he’s stressing about. Plus, he couldn’t ask Mr. Stark to pay for those after he already paid for Peter’s high school. He’s sure Midtown is very expensive compared to an ordinary public school.

“What were you working on in the lab?” Peter asks after a second. Mr. Stark starts explaining his latest project to Peter in detail. Peter is about finished with his food by the time the man is done explaining fifteen minutes later.

“So is that what we’re working on in the lab on Wednesday?” Peter asks as Mr. Stark takes his plate and puts in his dishwasher.

“No, actually, we won’t be in the lab. I have other plans for us on Wednesday.” He responds cryptically.

“Other plans? Like what?” Peter asks.

Tony just shrugs. “I suppose you’ll just have to find out on Wednesday.”

Peter rolls his eyes again and sighs loudly. “Alright then, keep your secrets.”

“I plan to, Frodo.” Tony replied with a smirk.

“I need to get back out anyway if I’m going to actually get anything done tonight.” Peter says, hopping up from his stool.

Mr. Stark walks him back to the window he came in. “I’m really never bothered when you drop in, Pete. You should know that by now. I’m Tony Stark, and Tony Stark never does anything he doesn’t want to do. It’s my number one rule.”

Peter huffs a laugh. “Okay, sure. Thanks for the food anyway though. You really don’t have to feed me.”

Tony just waved off his concerns again. “No problem at all, kiddo. Stay safe out there tonight, okay? Call me if anything happens.”

“Will do, Mr. Stark.” Peter promises him as he climbs out the window. He waves one more time before letting go and free falling down the side of the tower.

Yeah, life is pretty good right now.

He calls Ned once he gets back to ground level. He’s always so excited when he gets to help Peter on patrol, and they don’t have anything too important going on in class tomorrow that Ned can’t stay up a little later.

Ned is good company, as always. They talk and have a good time while Ned and Karen lead him around from place to place. He doesn’t stop anything huge tonight. There’s mostly just muggings he happens across, a couple lost dogs get found, he stops some assholes from harassing some homeless guys at a park. Pretty easy stuff. Peter supposes the spring is putting everyone else in as good of a mood as him. He decides to go home a little earlier since there’s not too much to do so he can get a little more sleep.

-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_

“Dude, when are you going to tell him?”

Peter sighs and continues loading food onto his lunch tray. Ned is next to him, interrogating him on topics he doesn’t like to talk about when he knows Peter can’t escape.

“We’ve talked about this, Ned.” Peter responds wearily, already tired of discussing this.

“No, we haven’t. I’ve tried to talk about this, and you just cut me off every time.”

They pay for their food and head to their table. MJ isn’t there yet. She’s usually a little late. She stops by the library sometimes before lunch.

“I just don’t know why you can’t trust me that telling him would be a bad idea.” Peter says tiredly.

“Because you haven’t given me one reason it’s a bad idea. I think at this point you’re just scared.”

“Of course I’m scared!” Peter snaps, before remembering where they are and lowering his voice. “He doesn’t want kids, Ned. And if he did, it definitely wouldn’t be me.”

Ned huffs, clearly getting frustrated. “But you don’t know that. How do you know he doesn’t want kids? Has he told you? Have you asked?”

Peter rolls his eyes. “Of course I haven’t asked. That’s like a weirdly personal question. You can’t just ask people that.”

Ned gives him an unimpressed glare. “Weirdly personal? You spend two days a week with the man and go see him on patrols all the time too. I think it’s okay for you to ask him a kind of personal question.”

“Okay, fine.” Peter relents. “I’ll try to ask him tomorrow if I feel like there’s a good time. But no promises. Now can you please drop it for a while?”

“Drop what?” MJ asks, setting her food next to Ned’s and sitting down, new book in hand.

“Oh!” Peter exclaims, not having seen her approach. “Uh, Ned has just been bugging me to come do this Lego set with him for a while and I haven’t had time.”

She rolls her eyes teasingly. “You guys are losers.”

The insults definitely haven’t stopped in the few months since they became friends, but it’s become clear to Peter that insults are how MJ shows affection to her friends.

“What book are you reading now, MJ?” Peter asks, changing the subject.

He listens kind of absentmindedly as she starts describing the plot of her latest find. He’s annoyed with Ned for forcing him to confront his fears, but he knows his friend is right. He needs to stop lying to his dad just because he’s afraid of something that might not even be true. Next time there’s a good opportunity, he’s going to ask.

-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-

It turns out that this Wednesday is not the day to ask, like Peter had hoped.

Happy picks him up at school as usual, and they chat amicably for a while on the drive. Happy drops him off in the garage and Peter gets on the elevator.

“Good afternoon, Peter. Can I take you to boss?” He hears a voice ask him.

“Yes, please, Friday.” He responds.

Surprisingly, they pass the floor to the lab and she takes him straight to the penthouse. He’s been in the penthouse quite a few times, but Mr. Stark is almost always in the lab when he arrives.

The doors open to the familiar site of his dad’s living room. The man himself comes strolling out of the hallway into the room in a lot fancier clothes then Peter is used to seeing him in. He’s wearing an actual suit, not lab clothes.

Mr. Stark smiles at him, walking Peter’s direction. “Hey, kiddo. How was school?”

“…school was fine.” Peter says, eying the man suspiciously. “Why are you dressed like that?”

Tony chuckles. “You know, this is how I normally dress when I’m not in the lab. People expect you to look put together when you’re the owner of one of the largest companies in the world.”

“Well, yeah.” Peter responds. “Does that mean we’re doing something around other people today? All you told me is that we aren’t going to be in the lab.”

“Yes, indeed, we are my young padawan. Today, I’m showing you around the company. Here, put this on.” Tony grabs a blazer that was laying over the back of the couch and tosses it towards Peter. He catches it easily in one hand and slips it on, following Mr. Stark as he’s already heading back into the elevator.

The jacket fits him perfectly. Of course it does. He can’t help but feel that it doesn’t exactly fix his jeans that are covered in holes and too short, but maybe it makes him look a little more presentable. He really doesn’t know. He’s not used to dressing nice.

“Wait, you’re showing me around the company? Like, the whole thing? And with your employees here?”

Tony rolls his eyes. “Well, duh, with my employees here. That’s kind of the point, kiddo. Take us to the lobby first, Friday. We’ll start there.”

Mr. Stark turns to him and quickly fixes the collar on his jacket and starts trying to tame Peter’s hair. He feels his face flush as he quickly pushes the man’s hands away from his head, trying to ignore how much he’s enjoying all the attention.

“Wait, Mr. Stark. Why are we doing this?”

“Oh, a few different reasons. Reason number one is that I told the biomed department a few months ago that you did a lot of the work on our new arm prosthetic, and now words gotten around that I have some super secret genius intern hidden away upstairs that no one has ever seen before. So today we’re showing you off.”

Peter flushes again, rubbing his hand on the back of his neck nervously “Mr. Stark, you can’t, I mean, I really didn’t do very much of the work. I barely did anything, and, and the things I did do you could’ve easily done yourself but you’re just nice enough to let me try-“

“Take a breath, Pete.” Tony interrupted him, voice softening. “First of all, I did let you do a lot of the work, but you still did more than my entire team of trained professionals could do, and that’s something to be proud of. Stop undermining your own accomplishments. Second of all, there’s literally nothing to worry about. We’re just walking around and saying hi. There’s nothing to prove today, okay?”

Peter nods, trying not to start sweating from his nerves. He’s assuming this is why Mr. Stark chose not to tell him about this in advance.

“You, uh, you said there were more reasons we’re going? What are the other reasons?” Peter stammers.

Mr. Stark just smirks. “Ah, right. You remember Pepper?”

“Miss Potts? I’ve met her a few times in your lab. Why? Is she coming today?” Peter asks, curiosity replacing his nervous energy.

“Well, you see, Kiddo. Miss Potts and I have a bit of a history.” Mr. Stark begins.

“Uh, yeah, I know about that, sir. From, like, the news and stuff.” Peter says, suddenly a little embarrassed about knowing things about his father from the media.

Tony cringes slightly. “Yeah, well, let’s just say things didn’t end so well a while ago. I was kind of a mess, and then you showed up and now I’m actually a semi responsible adult.”

Peter snorts a laugh. “And what does that have to do with you dragging me around your company today?”

Tony wraps and arm around Peter’s shoulders, dragging him in closer to his side. “That, my dear protege, is an excellent question. You see, the lovely Miss Potts has agreed to give me another shot if I can prove to her that I’ve changed since our relationship ended. What better way to do that then make an appearance around the company, check on all the little workers, make sure morale is up and all that jazz. Plus, Pepper likes you. She thinks you’re a good influence on me or something.”

Peter laughs again, allowing himself to lean against his dad unapologetically. “I’ll make sure to talk you up if we see her today, then.”

Mr. Stark chuckles, releasing his hold on Peter’s shoulder. “Oh she’ll see right through that, I’m sure. But thanks for trying.”

The elevator dings that they’ve arrived at their first destination, and the doors open up into the lobby. Mr. Stark leads him out into the room. It’s a huge open space, with really beautiful windows looking out into the street and glass doors. There are security guards lingering around and a big metal detector like Peter thinks probably looks like an airport. He’s actually never been in the main entrance before. He always comes through Happy’s entrance around the back parking garage.

Tony leads Peter right up to the front desk, where a pretty brunette woman in a dress is typing on a computer.

“Desiree, long time, no see. You’re looking lovely today.”

The woman blushes, looking a little flustered that Mr. Stark is here and speaking to her.

“Oh, Mr. Stark!” She exclaims breathily. “I wasn’t expecting to see you down here today. Is there something I can help you with?”

Tony shakes his head. “No, actually I was just checking in on my favorite employees and showing my intern around. Desiree, this is Peter. Peter, this is Desiree. She works the front desk during the week. We have someone else who works the weekends. So if you ever come through the lobby for some reason, she can let you inside, kapish?”

“Uh, yes sir.” He responds quickly. “It’s nice to meet you Miss Desiree.” He tells the woman with a small smile, holding out his hand for her to shake.

“It’s nice to meet you too, Peter.” She says cheerily. “I’ll make sure it’s updated in the system that you can come in this way if you ever need to.”

“Thank you, ma’am.” Peter says politely.

“So, Desiree.” Mr. Stark bring the attention back to him. “Is there anything you need? Any problems you need me to look into?”

Desiree appears to think on it for a second. “No I don’t think so, sir, but I’ll make sure to let you or Miss Potts know if something comes up.”

“That would be amazing, Desiree. Thank you. Pete and I better be off to our next stop.” He puts a hand on Peter’s back and guides him back to the elevator.

“Well that’s the lobby. Hopefully that’ll be the most boring part of our day, but it was probably important for you to see.”

Peter nods. “Yeah I think so. It was, uh, a very nice lobby.” Peter says awkwardly, wanting to tell Mr. Stark that the trip to the lobby wasn’t boring but getting caught on his words.

“Thanks, I didn’t design it. I have people for that. I did approve the design though and I think it came out pretty nice.”

Peter just nods, unsure of what else to say about it. Luckily the elevator is only running for a few seconds before opening again at their next destination.

Peter instantly understand why Mr. Stark said the lobby would be the most boring part. He hasn’t even fully stepped out of the elevator yet and he’s already amazed. They enter into a long hallway, with large windows lining the entire way. Peter rushes forwards to the first set of windows and eagerly looks through.

There are multiple people in a lab wearing white coats and goggles along with other protective equipment. They desks are covered in machine parts. The people inside look like they’re laughing and joking and having a good time. One of them glances up and notices Peter staring. He nudges the guy next to him and jerks his head Peter’s direction, looking confused.

Mr. Stark comes up behind him and waves to the people inside. Their confused expressions quickly turn back into smiles as they wave back happily.

“This is one of many of our robotics labs. We won’t see them all. I picked this one because this is where a lot of our interns get placed, so there will be some people closer to your age.”

Now that Mr. Stark has pointed it out, he does see a couple people in the room that look younger. Definitely older than him, they look more like college students, but they definitely aren’t like grown people with doctorates like the others.

“Come on, Pete. Let’s go say hi.” He puts a hand on the back of Peter’s neck and starts leading him towards the door. Peter goes willingly, excited to see the inside of the lab.

“Hey Mr. Stark!” The group choruses as Tony walks in.

Tony smiles and waves, keeping Peter at his side. Everyone seems happy to see them, but they are all eyeing Peter curiously.

“What can we do for you today, sir?” A dark skinned woman asks. She looks to be in her forties maybe if Peter had to guess, and she has long braids tied back in a bun.

“I actually came to see if there was anything I could do for you. I’m taking today to wander around the building and make sure all my wonderful employees are happy and check on progress with products and such. And I brought my intern with me to show him what everyone gets up to around here.” He steps behind Peter and puts his hands on Peter’s shoulders.

“This is Peter. Peter, this is one of our best robotics engineers, Dr. Jeffries, and her team.”

“It’s so nice to meet you, ma’am. Really, an honor.” He says excitedly, stepping forwards to shake her hand.

“It’s nice to meet you too, Peter. You must be awfully smart to get the attention of Tony Stark himself.” She says, glancing towards Mr. Stark as well to catch his eye.

Peter just shrugs, trying not to blush. “I don’t know about that.” He says nervously. “I just got lucky I guess.”

“Nonsense.” Tony scoffs. “This kid is one of the best and brightest.”

Peter is blushing furiously at all the attention. Luckily, Dr. Jeffries doesn’t force him to suffer any longer. “Why don’t I let the rest of the team introduce themselves and then we can show you what we’re working on?”

Peter nods enthusiastically, and the other members of the group introduce themselves one by one. They have a couple of interns that seem nice. Peter was right about them being college age. They also have a few other people that introduced themselves as doctor and explained their roles.

“Here, you go with Casey and Jeremiah and they’ll explain what we’re working on.” Dr. Jeffries tells him after he’s met everyone. He follows the two interns away from the rest of the group to where some projects are laid out on the tables.

“This is our main project right now.” Casey explains. “It’s a search and rescue drone. It can pick up a human heat signature from miles away, and it has the capabilities to direct someone through basic medical care.”

Peter listens intently at Casey’s explanation, Jeremiah occasionally throwing in some additional information. He can hear Dr. Jeffries and Mr. Stark talking in the background, but he tunes them out.

After a few minutes of discussing the intricacies of the drone with the interns, he hears his dad call for him again.

“Come on, Pete. We’ve got to move along. Lots of other places to see.”

“Bye, guys!” Peter says to the interns. “It was really nice meeting you both. Thanks for taking the time to go over your project with me.”

“Of course, Peter. Anytime.” Casey says with a smile.

“You should drop down here sometimes. You seem like you’ve got some good ideas.” Jeremiah tells him, Casey nodding her agreement.

“Oh, uh, sure.” Peter says, taken aback that they would actually want his ideas about anything. “I’d love to if Mr. Stark is busy or something sometime. Thanks!”

He rushes off before he can say something stupid to these college students. Tony claps him on the back and leads him back out of the room.

They go from place to place, lab to lab, and Peter is pretty much just as amazed at all the others as he was the first. He meets lots of new people, and everyone seems really nice. A few people even invite him back to their lab like the first interns did. They eventually make it around to the biomedical engineering department that is producing the prosthetics, and everyone keeps telling Peter how amazing his work is. He keeps trying to tell everyone that he really didn’t contribute that much, but Mr. Stark never lets him finish his sentence.

About halfway through their afternoon, they even run into Miss Potts. Peter sees her down the hallway while Mr. Stark is having a discussion with one of his lead developers for a department, and takes it upon himself to fulfill his earlier promise to talk Mr. Stark up to Miss Potts.

“Miss Potts!” He calls, hurrying away from Mr. Stark’s side. He looks back for one second to smirk at the man’s shocked expression before continuing his jog towards the woman.

She stops as soon as she hears her name called, turning around and smiling when she sees it’s Peter who is trying to talk to her.

“Peter!” She says happily as he approaches. “It’s so good to see you again. I heard you and Tony have been out and about today.”

“Yes, ma’am.” He replies in his politest voice. “It’s been so great. Mr. Stark has been giving me a tour of the whole building.”

“Oh is he now?” She asks kindly. “What have you seen so far?”

“We’ve been to a bunch of the labs and Mr. Stark has introduced me to a bunch of amazing scientists. I’ve gotten to see so many cool projects. This place is awesome, Miss Potts.”

She chuckles. “Well I’m glad you’re having such a good time. I heard you made quite a splash over in biomed.”

Peter smiles widely. “I guess so, ma’am. That’s what everyone keeps telling me. I really don’t feel like I’ve done that much. Mr. Stark is just a really great teacher.”

“I’m glad to hear that. I’m sure you’re a great student as well from how much he raves about you.”

By this point, Mr. Stark finished up talking with the other man and has caught up to them. He drops a hand onto Peter’s shoulder as he approaches.

“Hey, Pep.” Mr. Stark says with a smile. “You ready to head to our next stop, Pete? We have a few labs left to go, and I want to make sure you take a look at the arc reactor powering the building. I’m planning on showing you some in the lab in the next few weeks.”

“Sure thing, Mr. Stark. Didn’t you say you wanted to talk to Miss Potts about something, though? I’ll go wait by the elevators.”

“Wait, kid-“

Peter rushes off before his dad can say anything against it, leaving the two adults alone. He can still see them from the elevator, so he tunes out the rest of the people on the floor and tries to focus on hearing just Mr. Stark and Miss Potts.

“What did you want to talk about, Tony?” Miss Potts asks.

“Oh, it’s really nothing important. I just mentioned something earlier that he really doesn’t need to get involved in.” Mr. Stark turns and glares at Peter from way down the hall. Peter looks away as quick as he can, but he’s worried his cover is already blown.

He hears Pepper laugh. “I think I can make an educated guess based on how he ran up to me just to tell me what a great teacher you are and how much he loves being here with you. Although, that did seem genuine.”

“Yeah, well, I just figured…I got this a few days ago.” He sees Mr. Stark pull something out of his pocket and put it in Miss Potts’ hand.

“Oh, Tony. This is so amazing. I’m so so happy for you and proud of you.” Miss Potts says. What could Mr. Stark have given her to get that reaction? She sounds so emotional.

“I’ve been working really hard on this, for you and the kid and myself too, I think. I’ve been trying to be better. You, Pepper Potts, only deserve the best, and I hope that eventually, I can be that for you.”

Peter sees her take his hand and put whatever he gave her back in his palm.

“What are you doing this Friday night?” She asks him with a smile.

“Well I’m very much hoping that I can put cooking a delicious meal for a beautiful, incredible woman on my calendar, for around 7 o’clock?”

“Sounds perfect, Tony. I’ll see you then.” She leans in and kisses him on the cheek before turning around and getting back to whatever business she was headed to before Peter interrupted.

His face breaks out in a wide smile at the success of his plan. Mr. Stark turns around after a second and points angrily at the elevators. Peter quickly opens the doors and rushes inside, trying to look innocent. Mr. Stark followed him in a minute later, clearly trying to look irritated but is smiling nonetheless.

“Sooo did it work?” Peter asks, feigning innocence.

Mr. Stark glares at him. “You know very well it worked, you little shit. Never do that again.”

Peter laughs maniacally. “My plan worked though! You’re not even going to thank me?”

Mr. Stark quickly wraps an arm around Peter’s head and starts rubbing his knuckles against Peter’s head.

“How’s this for a thank you, you little punk.”

“Hey! Mr. Stark! You’re messing up my hair!” Peter yells through his laughter, feigning attempts to get away even though they both know that Peter wouldn’t put up with this if he didn’t want to.

Mr. Stark eventually relents his attack and lets Peter try to smooth down his messed up hair again, grumbling.

When it’s time for Peter to leave a few hours later, he’s completely lost all of the nervousness he had at the beginning of the day. Mr. Stark walked around his building with so much confidence, proudly introducing Peter to all of these important people, and they were all so nice. He’s not sure what he expected, but it wasn’t for everyone to be so welcoming.

He definitely never got a chance to ask Mr. Stark about the kids thing. Maybe he’ll have a chance this weekend.
