Chapter 2
"So you'll keep her here with you for a few days?" Yelena asked.
"Of course. Inessa's doing well? Having fun with the girls?" Natasha asked in return.
"Well, the girls haven't called for anything yet, so I can only assume things are going well." Yelena answered.
"Do you want to stay until she wakes up? I was going to stay down here and do...something, but I should probably be there when she wakes up, right?" Natasha rambled, pacing the floor.
"I'll stay if you need me, Tasha." Yelena said, pulling Natasha onto the couch with her.
Natasha leaned into her sister and finally relaxed. Extracting Widows was kinda exhausting.
Yelena shifted slightly, causing Natasha to look up at her. "I'm proud of you, you know."
Natasha scoffed. "Me?"
"Yes, you! You made a whole life for yourself. Way before I did. And you do all these great things, and you fight crime! And now you're a mama."
Natasha's heart fluttered at the statement. "I mean...yeah. But you too. Now you have babies of your own, before I did, and you do so much for them."
"Guess we're both living different lives than we thought we'd be, yeah?" Yelena smiles at her, kissing Natasha's head.
Natasha couldn't stop herself from smiling, leaning more into her baby sister. "You're so sappy."
"I learned it from you." Yelena teased, cradling her sister's face.
They stay there like that for a few minutes before Natasha springs back into "Mama Mode" as Yelena liked to call it now. The night before Inessa went to live with her, she went to the grocery store and bought everything she could think of. That's because she was given very unhelpful advice by her stupid best friend, not because she cared about the girl at that moment. Or, she tried to convince herself she didn't. She thought it would be a temporary thing at first but she had taken more than just a liking to Inessa and the girl felt the same about her, and then Natasha was a mother.
"Where are you going? Sit down, rest until she wakes up." Yelena grabbed her hand after Natasha gets up.
"Yeah, but she needs...stuff! I only have blankets and bed sheets and cozy, comfy things for Inessa! Shit, and what about food? I might need more, she's probably gonna want food! This," Natasha rambles, gesturing to the literal tons of food and snacks in her pantry, "Will not cut it, Lena!"
Yelena lets a laugh slip out and immediately covers her mouth to stifle it. "Natasha. You have plenty of food for them both, okay? You aren't going anywhere, either. I'll go for the things you actually need, and you wait here for her to wake up."
"Fine." Natasha condeded stubbornly, "And don't mess up my car!"
"I won't, mom! Jeez, I'm not that much of a reckless driver." She mumbled the last part.
"Hey, I heard that! Just drive safely, you little gremlin!" Natasha called after her.
Once Yelena got back, Natasha was upstairs, waiting for Aurelia to wake up.
"Natasha! I'm back!" Yelena yelled from the front door, "Would be nice if you came down to help me."
"Would be nice if you'd stop your incessant grumbling." Natasha retorted, suddenly standing at the bottom of the steps.
"Jesus Christ, you're fast." Yelena noted, jumping slightly. "Is she awake yet?"
"Yeah, she is. I-I am." Aurelia's voice confirms from behind the pair. "And who the hell are you?"
