Peter was taking you out for a nice dinner after a long week. You decided to forgo your nano tech suit. It was just you and Peter going to a quiet dinner, there was no need for you to wear it. While it was very comfortable to wear, you just wanted to feel normal for a few hours.
Peter held the door open for you as you both exited the tower. You held his hand when he came and stood next to you.
You walked along the sidewalks, making small conversation. Enjoying just being together without having to worry about Avenger duties.
You both turned a familiar corner and after you walked down it a bit, Peter’s hand tightened on yours.
“What’s wrong?” you asked, looking around and grabbing his arm with your other hand.
“Run.” He said without looking at you.
You let go of him and you both ran as fast as you could.
Soon after you both started running, bullets started flying past the both of you. Peter ran in front of you to try and find a place to hide. You dodged the bullets as best you could. It was right about now you wished you had worn your suit.
Suddenly, Peter stopped and turned toward you. Before you could question him; a pain ripped through your side. Your eyes went wide, a strangled scream left your mouth as you fell to your knees.
He ran toward to you, picked you up, and kept running. You tried to put pressure on the wound, but with Peter running and the pain it was hard to keep your hands there.
You felt Peter stumble at one point but corrected it right away. He finally found a place to hide.
He set you down gently. You were breathing erratically, which made the wound hurt even more. You looked down and it looked like blood was pouring out of you. Your hands started shaking.
Peter put his hands on the sides of your face and turned your head to his.
“Hey. Hey, stay with me. Slow down.”
“Steve… Steve ‘ss gonna be… mad…”
“No. No.”
“Hurts… Pete…” You said through ragged breaths.
“Yeah.”
He webbed your wounds to try and stop some of the bleeding. Then he started looking around. You noticed a dark spot on his clothes.
“Peter…” You said pointing to his stomach.
“Shit.” He webbed his wound too. “Okay we need a better place to hide. For Tony to pick us up.”
He looked around again and saw building that looked like it would work.
You watched him as he looked around, your eyes getting heavy.
He turned back to you and noticed your eyes were closing.
“Hey.” He patted your cheek. “You gotta hold on to me, okay? Can you do that? As tight as you can?”
You nodded.
He lifted you up on his back and wrapped your arms around him. You gasped at the pain of laying on your wound, but you held your hands as tight as you could.
“Hold tight.”
He started climbing the wall. Even in your dazed state you could tell it was hard for him. But he made it to the top.
Before you let go, he put a hand to yours. “Hold on… one jump…”
He wrapped your legs around his waist, then ran and lept.
He hit the roof hard. At the impact you let go and rolled. When you stopped, your eyes slowly closed, and your breathing slowed.
Peter got on his hands and knees and crawled to you. “Babe.” He shook you.
You coughed; blood dripped from your mouth.
“Shit. Shit.”
He pulled you to a corner and sat you in his lap. He pushed a button on his suit.
“Karen, call Stark.”
“What’s up kid?”
“Tony… we need… help… now.”
“Where are you at kid?”
“On… a roof…” Peter trailed off.
Steve walked in the room. “What’s up?”
“The kids.” Tony said back.
“Something wrong?”
Tony put it on speaker.
“Peter.”
“Hum…”
“Are you hurt?”
“Yeah… both… of us.”
“Hurt? What happened?” Steve said.
“Are you healing?”
“Not fast… enough…”
“Karen. Location and vitals.”
“Low heart rate and blood pressure. Working on location.” She said back.
“Sally. Vitals.” No response.
“Did she wear her suit?” Steve asked.
“I don’t think so.”
“Karen send nanos to check vitals.”
Nanos crawled onto your arm and to your chest from Peter’s suit.
“Low heart rate and blood pressure.”
“Apply pressure to wounds.”
You didn’t react as the nanos put pressure on your wound, but Peter did.
“Shit.”
“We are coming Pete.”
“Hurry.”
Steve, Tony, and Bruce got in a jet and made their way to you two as quick as they could.
When they got there Tony and Steve jogged over to the both of you. Tony and Steve stared at you two. Sitting in a small puddle of blood. Steve noticed that it was mostly yours, dripping down Peter’s leg. Tony started forward and Steve moved as well.
“I got her.” He said as he got closer. He carefully picked you up and noticed that you didn’t move at all. He walked you to the jet and set you on the stretcher they had prepared.
Bruce started getting you prepared for a blood transfusion.
Steve just stood there, staring at you, willing you to wake up. After a minute, he finally realized Bruce was talking to him.
“Steve.”
“Sorry, yeah?”
“Can you get the crash cart?”
“Yeah. Wait why?”
“Her heart rate is low. It might stop.”
Once Steve took you, Tony went to pick up Peter. When Tony got him in his arms, he woke up.
“Hey Pete.”
“Where… is she…”
“Steve’s got her on the jet.”
“She… alive…?”
“For now…”
“Steve… mad?”
“No.”
“You… mad?”
“Never.”
Peter rested his head on Tony’s chest and passed out again.
A minute after Tony got on the jet with Peter, your heart stopped.
“Steve!”
“I got it!” He got the paddles. “Clear!”
Nothing.
“Again.” Bruce said.
“Come on little girl. Clear!”
Beep. Beep.
“She’s back.” Bruce said.
He put an oxygen mask on you. After a few minutes he went over to tend to Peter.
Steve put the paddles down and sunk into a chair that was next to the stretcher. He eventually took your hand in his.
While Bruce was working on Peter, Tony went in the pilots’ seat and flew the plane back home. Bruce cleaned out Peter’s wounds and gave him antibiotics. That helped his healing abilities get back to normal.
Once the jet arrived at the tower, Bruce brought you to a room and hooked all the wires up to you. Steve stayed in the room with you.
Later that night, Peter woke up and was healed. He immediately went to your room. Before he walked in Steve talked to him.
“You are not going to spend all your time in here. Okay?”
“Come on, Steve.”
“No. Tony and I are not going to let you spend 24/7 in here until she wakes up. You can come and visit her a couple of times a day. Got it?”
Peter grumbled under his breath.
“Got it?”
“Yeah, yeah.”
Steve stayed in the room almost all the time. At the beginning, he was on edge. You would take deep breaths every so often. Each time he thought you had woken up and turned to you. After a while he got used to it and stopped looking.
At the end of the second day, Steve was pacing around the room (but if anyone asked, he was just stretching his legs). He had put on some music, Elvis Presley to be exact. Even though Elvis had become big after Steve was in the ice, you both had bonded over his music. It was old and new mixed together.
He was singing along. Something he didn’t do in front of others but would occasionally do in front of you.
Love me tender, love me dear
Tell me you are mine
I’ll be yours, through all the years
‘Til the end of time
You woke up with a deep breath but didn’t open your eyes. You heard Steve singing. You slowly opened your eyes to get used to the light. You turned your head and saw Steve pacing.
He continued singing.
Love me tender, love me true
All my dreams fulfilled
For my darling I love you
You joined him on the last line, although it was a whisper.
And I always will
He turned and saw you.
“Oh little girl.”
He walked over, sat on the edge of the bed, and put a hand on your face.
A tear rolled down your face. “I’m so sorry.”
“Shh no no.”
“We were just going to dinner. I didn’t think I would need my suit.”
“No it’s okay. Peter was wearing his and they went through his.”
“Peter! Is he okay? He was bleeding.”
“He is fine. They were coated in something that slowed his healing, but we got it back on track.”
“Good. How long have I been out?”
“Two days.”
“Oh man…”
“It’s okay. Your body needed to heal.”
Peter opened the door with his back, carrying a tray of food for him and Steve.
“Am I allowed to come in?”
Steve looked to you with a smirk.
“I think I’ll allow it.” You said back.
Peter almost dropped the tray.
“Babe!”
He set it down put his hands on either side of your head and kissed you. You brought your hands to his.
“Babe, I am so sorry. I should have been shielding you. Protecting you.”
“No, it is okay. They went through your suit. You were finding a place to hide.”
“I love you. I don’t deserve you.” He said back.
Steve had snuck out while you two were talking.
