Chapter 17
Chapter 17
This day it already worked a little better. Loki at least wasn't crying when they were done, instead cursing Thor in any possible way for hurting him like this. Thor laughed, hugging him comfortingly. Normally he couldn't stand knowing his brother was hurt but in this case he knew Loki was simply tired and didn't know what he was saying. He was quite sure he hadn't really injured him but Banner had warned him it would hurt and obviously he'd been right.
Thor: "I'm sorry, my love. - But it'll help at some point, I promise you."
Loki only muddered something that sounded like "Take your fucking hands off me". Thor frowned shortly but as Loki pulled him closer simultaneously he only kept laughing, stroking back the beautiful, dark strands of hair, hugging him closer.
Thor: "So what can I do to help you?"
Loki considered for a while, dropping his head on Thor's broad chest.
Loki: "Don't leave."
Thor gave him a short, confused look before remembering that Loki was obviously traumatized and needed constant reassurances that Thor wouldn't leave him again.
Thor: "No. Of course I won't leave. I'll stay right here. But what else can I do? What do you need, hmh?"
After a few moments, Loki turned onto his stomach.
Loki: "Go on."
Thor's confussion reappeared.
Thor: "Ahm - you're sure?"
Loki nodded, pushing his hair aside.
Loki: "I'm slowly getting used to it."
Thor chuckled, putting a soft kiss to Loki's hair and restarting his treatment.
-------
The following days went by quite similar. Loki spent most of the time sleeping, which only worked while Thor was close by, reassuring him he'd stay. Loki's injuries disappeared slowly and one week later, everything was almost back to normal. Except for the fact that Loki still couldn't stand being left alone. Thor could only go to buy food when Loki was asleep, which he didn't like doing either. However, there came the time when the thunderer noticed the next problem: They were running out of money. The award he'd won at the competition was almost used up and it was obvious he'd have to get back to work within the next days. But he knew as well that there was no way he could leave Loki alone for several hours, as already minutes didn't work well with him. When they were lying in bed in the evening, he simply decided to try. He carefully lifted Loki's chin, looking him in his beautiful, loving eyes.
Thor: "Loki?"
The young man stirred, blinking a few times until his vision cleared up.
Loki: "Hmh?"
Thor inhaled slowly. He knew he had to start this careful. If he said anything to quick or harsh, Loki would only panic and evey attempt to calm him would be in vein.
Thor: "Listen - we're slowly running out of money, which means that-"
Okay. This had been too much. Definitely. Thor watched as his lover's eyes filled with terror and he began shaking, gripping Thor's clothes with one hand and his hair with the other.
Loki: "D-d-don't leave, please! S-stay with me! Don't leave me alone again!"
The trickster started sobbing, grabbing Thor's wrist in attempt to hold him back from leaving. Thor sighed deeply, cradling Loki in his arms.
Thor: "shhh - shhhh, it's alright. Stop crying. Please."
Thor had never been good at seeing his brother in tears. But now that it happened so frequently, his heart felt like breaking every time. To know that the person he wanted to protect the most, his sweet and lovely Loki wasn't well, was too much for him to bear. He wanted to do anything he could to prevent Loki from sobbing but there were situations when he had to accept that he couldn't. So he simply kept cradling him close to his chest, stroking his slim figure, which was wracked by hard shudders.
Thor: "Loki, please! I never said I'd leave you, my love. When will you finally stop believing I'm about to let you down? The only thing I want is for you to be okay! Only - I will need to work so we can get food and everything we need."
He wasn't even sure if Loki understood what he was saying.
Loki: "I - I don't want to stay alone!"
Thor: "I know - I know."
Thor was lost in thoughts. He knew leaving Loki alone would end in a desaster and staying at home was senseless too.
Thor: "You know what? I've got an idea!"
-----------
The next day Thor was back at work. But he wasn't coming alone. The trickster was still exhausted as hell and not really up to anything but Thor knew dragging him along would at least be better than leaving him at home. So when Mr. Norwood saw his champion, next to him was standing a fair man, one of his hands entangled with Thor's. Thor stopped in front of his boss, the unknown man still beside him.
Thor: "Good morning, mister. May I introduce my partner? Loki!"
He eyed the boy attentively. He looked like the exact opposite of his partner. Body nearly as frail as the one of a woman, skin without any tone of colour and hair as dark as the feathers of a raven. But he had to admit there was something fascinating about him, something he couldn't clearly make out. The young man definitely attracted attention, just as his fiancé. He couldn't ignore the way Thor was looking at him, as if he planned to protect him from any possible danger, which ever these should be.
Mr. Norwood: "So you're the fascinating person who my champion always leaves for as quickly as possible as soon as he's done? I hope you won't distract him from winning."
As Loki made no move to answer Thor carried on speaking.
Thor: "Of course not. Although he definitely could. He's just gonna stay as long as I am. Just - if it gets too much for him - is there any possibility where he could be on his own? Just in case - he's still quite - drained."
Mr. Norwood nodded, noticing the dark circles under the boy's eyes and the way he was leaning against Thor's shoulder.
Norwood: "Of course. Just let me know. Well then - your first fight starts in fifteen minutes so better get yourself ready."
Thor nodded shortly before walking on and leading Loki away. He guided him towards a bench where he allowed him to sit down. He crouched down in front of him, taking both of his hands into his.
Thor: "So - you heard it. I'm gonna be right there. You'll even see me all of the time, alright? If you feel exhausted or it's getting too loud for you just make a sound and I'll lead you somewhere else right away. Everything fine?"
Loki: "Mhm, I guess so."
Loki leaned back, looking quite relaxed but exhausted nevertheless. Thor kissed him tenderly before getting up and letting go of his fingers.
Thor: "Alright then - see you later, dear."
When he saw Loki smiling slightly, he smiled as well, looking at him once more before leaving and preparing for the fight.
