Chapter 4
On the 29th of december they were ready to leave. The preperations for their departure went rather fast. Odin had made up a reason why Thor was going to Midgard. According to the public, Thor had to deffend the Earth against Thanos together with the other avengers and it wasn't sure how long this was supposed to last. In reality, as soon as Thor was sent down, Loki followed close behind. Thor hadn't made a big farewell because he knew it would only attract attention and this was the last thing they needed now. It had been the right decision to make. He had only said goodbye to Frigga and his best friends briefly before rejoining Loki and starting the journey to Midgard. As soon as Loki had gotten down they had looked for a place to stay. Because they didn't yet have enough money, they decided to stay in a small house in the middle of the woods, which wasn't inhabited yet and at least wasn't old. In the beginning it had been rather cold, but once they had discovered an old oven they could use for heating it got better and better. With the money they had gotten from Asgard, they replaced the old furnature with new ones and Thor found a job as a boxer, which he was quite successful at. Loki also tried to find work, but most people still didn't trust him so he eventually gave up and decided to stay at home. For Thor this was fine too. They were only two, so they didn't need much and Thor was satisfied with Loki staying at home and only him going to work. The working times however were something Thor didn't get along well with. Because they hadn't yet gotten an alarm clock, it was basically Loki's part to wake him up. At 06:15 a.m. Loki started shaking him slightly but Thor only moaned, turned around and continued sleeping.
Loki: "Thor. - Thor, you have to get up!"
Thor sleepily opened his eyes and looked towards Loki immediately.
Thor: "What? You're worse than an alarm clock would be."
Loki grinned slightly. Thor lay down again and took Loki into his arms.
Thor: "I got the impression that you sleep better since we're together. Less nightmares and stuff. Is that right?"
Loki smiled towards him.
Loki: "Kind of. No one can chase them away better than your presence."
Thor: "Still my favourite job!"
They exchanged kisses and when Loki looked towards the clock the next time it was 06:50 a.m..
Loki: "Thor! You have to get up! Your work!"
Thor groaned, stretching his muscles and shoving the blanket away.
Thor: "You're so right, dear. Sometimes I wish you were not."
After Thor had gone showering, he returned into his and Loki's bedroom with a towel wrapped around his hair and nothing but another towel covering his muscular body, which was thrown away quite recklessly as he started searching for clothes. Loki couldn't help staring at Thor's defined muscles. When Thor turned around and noticed Loki gazing at him he started grinning.
Thor: "Great sight, isn't it?"
Loki blushed and looked away. Before Thor went off for work, he came back once and sat down next to Loki.
Thor: "Alright love, I'll be away for a couple of hours. You're alright?"
Loki: "Everything fine. Have fun."
Thor smiled, placing a kiss on his forehead. Then he got up and went to work. While Thor was working Loki didn't have a lot to do. Although he enjoyed Thor's presence, he also liked having a few hours for his own, only reading books and not being disturbed by anyone. When Thor came back, Loki had already gotten them something to eat and everything was prepared.
Thor(from outside): "Hey Loki! I'm back!"
As soon as Loki heard Thor's low voice, he jumped up, running towards him and hugging him happily. Thor grinned, hugged him back and kissed him glowingly.
Loki: "How was work?"
Thor: "Good. - But this is better!"
He let go of Loki, walked over to the radio and did something Loki couldn't identify. Seconds later, a song began playing at full volume. Loki was a little sceptical, as the melody sounded rather loud and happy, which wasn't his type of music but Thor, obviously loving the song, began singing the lyrics, lifted Loki into his arms without any prior warning and began dancing around with him still in his arms. Loki tried to protest but was powerless against the boxer, who during the chorus began spinning him around in the air which made him feel dizzy. At some point though, Loki actually started liking the song, added by the rough vocals of the thunderer. After the second Chorus which said "I'm in love with a fairytale, even though it hurts. Cause I don't care if I lose my mind. I'm already cursed." Thor stopped singing and spoke instead.
Thor(rather loudly): "Kind of matches us, huh?"
Loki only smiled, remembering the snowflake Thor had presented him not long ago, which was still lying on his bedside table. Then he nodded.
Loki: "Kind of."
As soon as the song was finished, Thor calmed down a bit, sitting down at the table and eating together with Loki. After lunch Thor leaned back relaxed.
Thor: "And now? What would you like to do, love?"
Loki only shrugged his shoulders, not knowing what plan Thor was implying.
Loki: "How should I know? What are your ideas?"
Thor: "Would you like taking a walk with me?"
Loki stood up, nodding satisfied. When they got outside Thor took Loki's hand, leading him towards the forest. It was still quite cold outside, but both of them felt comfortable with the presents of each other. They walked for a while, telling each other about their day or simply staying quiet and enjoying the silence. After some time, Thor stopped in the middle of the woods.
Loki: "What's the matter?"
Thor: "Stop a second, dear!"
Thor took both of Loki's hands into his. Then he knelt down before him.
Thor: "Loki, you know I'm not as good as you are at finding the right words, but nevertheless - I'm tempted to try it. Listen, this connection we entered recently is the most beautiful thing that could possibly happen to me. To be honest - I knew from the beginning that our relationship wouldn't be accepted in Asgard, but it simply didn't matter. Because all that mattered was you. And now that we're out of this forever, its importance has faded completely. Here in Midgard we're free to do whatever we wish and don't have to fear any consequences. I can imagine you're kind of overwhelmed by the recent events and - believe me - I do't feel any different. However, I don't want to do anything to fast for you and if that's the case then I want you to tell me so. I wish to marry you. I love you and want you as my bride and I'm willing to stay by your side forever, protecting you from any danger that might threaten our happy time together until death do us part. Please tell me if this goes to fast for you or if you still want to wait for a little. It wouldn't matter to me. As long as we can be together."
Thor gently kissed his fingertips. then he rose, lifting Loki bridal style and kissing him. When he put him down again and looked at him, he could see his beloved smile spreading over Loki's face. As the seconds passed and Loki still didn't say anything, Thor began to worry. Had he said something wrong?
Thor: "Loki? What's it? Why don't you say anything?"
Loki stared at him in disbelief. As Thor took his hands, he noticed they were trembling.
Thor: "Dear, is something wrong?"
Loki's mouth opened, then closed again without saying a word. Thor began shaking him slightly.
Thor: "Loki!"
Loki: "I'm - I'm ok. It's just - - yes!"
Thor grinned. In the moment the trickster wasn't quite good with words either, but nevertheless he'd understood. They were going to marry. Soon enough.
