Peggy's Little Princess
Thursday November 22nd, 1945
Colonel Chester Phillips and the members of the Howling Commandos made their way through the halls of a Brooklyn hospital. Near the nurse's desk of the maternity ward they were greeted by the on-duty nurse, returning from her rounds.
Seeing the ragtag bunch of men approaching the woman turned and addressed them, "Visiting hours are over." She told them in a barely civil tone, "How did you even get up here?" She knew they should have been stopped well before they reached here.
"Sister?" Colonel Phillips asked the nurse.
"Benton..."
"...Benton. Officially we're not here. Understood?" He led the Commandos around the gobsmaked woman.
They reached the room and the Colonel knocked on the door jam, drawing the worn-out woman's attention. She smiled at the sight, the Colonel leading her boys.
"Colonel." Peggy greeted her commander.
"Carter." The Colonel looked into the small crib where he saw a small baby wrapped in a pink blanket.
The rest of her team each took turns to get their first look at the first junior Howling Commando.
Dernier was the first to speak, "Elle est belle Peggy."
"Elle est parfaite." Peggy replied.
"So, Peggy..." 'Dum Dum' started, "what's her name?"
"Sarah... Sarah Amanda Carter."
