“Family” Reunions: Prologue
It started with a question.
“Carl, do you think I’d be a good dad?”
Felony Carl turned to his partner, a bit surprised by the question, and answered honestly. “Of course. Perhaps you wouldn’t be perfect, but I believe you would be a wonderful father to any child. Is something the matter?”
Globby squirmed in his chair, looking nervous. “Well… it’s just that I saw my family today.”
Carl frowned. “Did they see you?”
Globby shook his head. “No. I think they were here on vacation with my cousin. They looked like a real family- parents and a kid- but it made me think of why I left for San Fransokyo in the first place.” He clenched a fist. “My dad wasn’t the best, and if we ever adopt a kid I really wanna do better!” He looked up at Carl defiantly. “I’d spend time with the kid, and actually listen to them, and support them in every way I could, especially if they decide to explore gender and stuff! I’d give our kid what I wish I had, and-”
Globby stopped. “Oh no, did I make you cry?” Alarmed, he scooted closer to Carl. “I’m so sorry!”
Carl shook his head, wiping his eyes, and showed Globby his smile. “I’m not sad, beloved. I’m proud of you for deciding to step above what you know like this. While I had an average childhood myself, I, too, would go above and beyond for our child.”
Globby hummed happily, wrapping himself around Carl in a hug. “That’s great! ‘Cause I kinda think I really want one. A kid. Maybe two.”
