Will She Say Yes?

Thor turned the little box over in his pocket. This was the day. He was finally going to propose to Y/N. He’d been putting if off long enough. He loved her with every fiber of his being and wanted to begin the rest of their lives. That, and the fact that Michael could only keep Tony’s big mouth shut for so long before he’d burst. Thor shook his head. He’d seen Tony hanging around Y/N a little too much lately, and the man always looked like he was about the share the secret. Tightening his fingers on the box he nodded at his reflection in the mirror.

“It’s not that hard, is it?” He asked himself. Taking in his pale face, he gulped. “Be strong, Thor.” He squared his shoulders and reasoned with himself. The door opened behind him.

“Thor?” It was Y/N’s voice. Thor started, and fumbled to put the box in his pocket, deciding quickly to put it in the top drawer of the dresser.

“Yes, my love?” He spun to look at her. She was taken aback by his too wide smile.

“Who were you talking to?” She cocked her head to the side and gave him a concerned look.

“No one, my love.” He said far too quickly, pushing away from the dresser and reaching to pull her into a tight hug. Squirming in his embrace, she fought to pull away.

“I love you too, Thor, but I’d really like to take a shower now.” Pulling back slightly, Thor noticed for the first time how flushed and sweaty Y/N was.

“What have you been doing, Y/N?” He asked, turning her in circles examining her. “Are you well, my love?”
“Thor, stop!” She batted his hands away. “I’m fine. Cap was just working me over in the gym.” Thor scowled at her.

“I will have to have a talk with him. You are far too delicate to be getting ‘worked over.” He folded his arms and looked at her sternly. Y/N rolled her eyes and pushed past him to reach for the top drawer of the dresser.

“Be that as it may, I just want to take a cool shower and change my-“

“No!” Thor thundered, reaching around Y/N to slam the drawer shut.

“Thor!” She shouted, turning to look at him in shock. “What is wrong with you? You almost crushed my fingers.” Thor felt his face flush as he looked at her with wide eyes.

“Nothing, my love.” He turned to block the top drawer with his hip and placed his elbow on the lid. “What exactly do you need from this drawer?” He asked, attempting to sound nonchalant. He was failing miserably. Y/N looked at him like he’d lost his mind.

“It’s my drawer, Thor. I’d like to get one of my towels.” She folded her arms and studied him. He looked about for an excuse to throw her off the trail.

“Why don’t you use one of my towels?”

“Why don’t you let me use one of my own towels, Thor?” She tapped her foot, losing patience with this exchange. He waivered before crossing his own arms and leaning his full weight against the drawer. “Thor!” Y/N stamped her foot. “This is ridiculous! I demand you allow me to open my drawer!” Firming his jaw, he shook his head.

“I’m sorry, my love, but I cannot allow you entry to this drawer.”

“Cannot allow me?” She snorted and felt steam building in her system. “I tell you what.” She narrowed her eyes at him. “I’ll allow myself to use Michael’s bathroom and spend a few days with her.” With an angry sniff, she began marching towards their bedroom door. Thor began panicking. This was not how he expected this to go.

“Y/N!” He shouted, hoping she would stop. She didn’t. In desperation he ripped the top drawer open, ripping it off its hinges and splintering the wood. Grasping the box tightly in his fist, he charged after her, quickly overtaking her. “Y/N,” he boomed. The shorter woman merely scowled at him with her arms crossed. “I didn’t want to do this like this.” He rambled.

“Thor,” she tried.

“I wanted it to be perfect.” He didn’t even hear her.

“Thor!” she shouted.

“Marry me!” he cried, pushing the box at her. Y/N looked at him in shock.

“What?” she whispered, reaching for the delicate box.

“Marry me.” He lowered his voice, coming back to reality. Getting on one knee, he gently took her hands in his, cradling the box between their joined hands. “Lady Y/N.” He looked at her meaningfully. “I love you. I’ve loved you for a long time now. Marry me? Please.” His voice choked on the last word. Y/N didn’t even try to stop the tears streaming from her face. Shaking her head vigorously, she fell into his arms and wrapped her own around his neck. Standing, he carried her back into the room.

“Wow!” Tony whispered from around the corner, holding his phone.

“Did you get it?” He jumped when he heard Michael behind him. For once, she was not annoyed with him. He swallowed and nodded. “I see we had the same idea.” They smiled at each other and quietly backed down the hallway.
