Chapter 1
Sasha leaned over Anne shoulders, the gems in the box were pretty shiny.But the light that suddenly came out of the box was a lot brighter.She flinched back, blocking her eyes.
For a moment she could have sworn the ground below her feet got mushier.When her eyes adjusted she realized she felt the sun on her skin and turned around.
And there is it was.The sun blazing in the blue sky.She wasn’t where she had been moments ago.“What the heck?”She was in the shape of a large with leaves shaped like lily pads.
Sasha walked up to a fern and moved it with her hand.“Alright, WHERE AM I?!”Sasha exclaimed in confusion, arms spread out in utter confusion.
—Few days later—
Sprig was staring out of the wagon when he snapped out of it after hearing Hop Pop’s voice.“I’m do a bit of shopping, watch the cart!”Hop Pop told them.Sprig grinned and jumped up ready.
“Don’t worry bout a THING!Sprig’s on the job!”Hop Pop raised an eyebrow.“Sorry Sprig, but I was talking to Polly.”Sprig slowly turned to his pollywog little sister in disbelief.“But she’s can even walk!”
Polly let out an offended scoff.“I’m more responsible that you are right Hop Pop?”Polly retorted.Hop Pop made a kinda expression and Polly looked up at him smugly.
So Sprig sat down,crossed his arms,and watched as Hop Pop went off to the market.He had to show he was responsible.And as that thought passed by Wally came into town screaming like the maniac he was.
“THERE’S HORRIBLE CREATURE IN THE WOODS!”He screeched to the frogs of the town.“It had long awful hair and stick horns growing from its head!I saw it knock over a tree!I could barely escape before it crushed me with its strength!”And BINGO.“Wow, has he been taking storytelling classes?”Polly asked dismissively.
“Polly!Something could actually be in the woods.There are PLENTY of creatures in there.”Sprig justified before puffing his chest.“And I’m gonna catch it!”
“Nuh uh.No.You’re stay staying here.”Polly informed him immediately.Sprig already knew how to get away with this.He dug in his pocket and tossed a bit of candy at her.There were stars in Polly’s eyes and collected her bribe.“SOLD.”Dhe shouted out.
Sprig grinned and left for the woods.Behind him Polly called after him, “Don’t die!I don’t wanna go through the trouble of getting another brother!”Sprig rolled his eyes affectionately at his sister’s comment.
He knew these woods like he knew himself!He wasn’t gonna get lost or eaten by a mystery monster!While lost in thought he nearly missed a print in the swamp’s mucky dirt.It was an odd single toes print with markings in it.He glanced around the area feeling a rush of dread.
Was it nearby?But the only things around were a large fallen tree with a huge hole in it, a few rocks with suspicious berries and the forest.He turned around ready to keep going before he heard something step in some wet dirt behind him.Wiping around he saw a horrific creature.
It had sticks in it’s hair—probably the horns Wally had told about—,hair that was a shade of yellow that he thought was pretty weird.It was covered in dirt and seemed to be VERY aware of that.
He let out a scream which set the creature off and it ALSO screamed.But half through she yelled at him, “Why in the WORLD are we screaming?”She asked.”I forgot!”He answered yelling at her.“Oh wait!You’re A MONSTER!”Sprig realized.
She stared at him before frowning.There was a distant rumble and the monster looked worried.“Are screaming got its attention!”She murmured horrified.She snatched up Sprig, who was pretty scared.
They were both stuffed in the things log.“What are you-“It immediately put it’s paws on his mouth to shut him up.A large insect probably a mantis stomped by them.But after it left they kinda sat there for a minute.“Wow…you’re a HERO!An ugly ugly hero!”
It looked down at him with a look of pure distain.“Alright.”She said with a restrained expression“Hey…do you have a name?”He asked it.
“I’m…Sasha.Who are you?”Sasha asked him.“I’m Sprig.Do you…wanna be friends?”Sprig asked, batting his eyelashes at him.Sasha tilted his head before smirking in an odd tone he had never heard.“Do you have a house?”Sasha asked, curiously.
“Well kinda of.It’s Hop Pop’s house but yea!”Sprig replied excitedly, hoping that it would please his new possible friend.Sasha rubbed her chin for a second.“Good enough!”She offered a fist.He wasn’t too sure what she wanted but he was pretty sure she wanted so he just smacked her fist with his tongue.“Gross.”He heard her mutter.
