1957
It was a standard mission. Get the hostages out safely.
Peggy had done this a million times but today was different.
They had infiltrated the base, and Peggy checked every room in the building to make sure all hostages were out, and there weren't any enemies left.
Peggy was almost done checking the hallway when she heard a creaking sound behind her. Quickly she turned around and saw a man with an evil smirk on his face.
"How can I help you?" Peggy asked, not phased at all. The man didn't respond but started attacking Peggy. Peggy rolled her eyes before defending herself.
They kept on fighting until there was a gust of wind knocking both of them back. Peggy quickly knocked out and restrained the man since he got distracted by the wind.
Peggy looked up to see a teenage girl standing in front of her with her hand pointed at Peggy.
"Who are you?" The girl asked. "Peggy Carter, I'm here to help. Are you a hostage?" Peggy asked cautiously. The girl nodded but still didn't put her hand down.
"What's your name?" Peggy asked. "Y/N Y/L/N." the girl, Y/N, responded.
"Nice to meet you Y/N. Can you please put your hand down? I promise I won't hurt you." Peggy asked. Y/N reluctantly put her hand down. "Before finding you I knocked down the handlers," Y/N told Peggy.
"That's great. I'll contact my teammates and the handlers will be taken care of." Peggy told Y/N who nodded. "Follow me Y/N," Peggy said and Y/N followed her.
There was something about Peggy that made Y/N trust her but Y/N couldn't pinpoint why.
Peggy led her away from a building and started talking to a bunch of men in suits. "Mr. Jarvis I would like to introduce you to Y/N," Peggy said introducing her to a tall man with a smile on his face. "Nice to meet you Y/N. I'm Edwin Jarvis. but you can call me Jarvis." Mr. Jarvis said.
"Nice to meet you," Y/N responded. "Mr.Jarvis will be taking us back to the city. You can wait in the car. I'll be there in just a minute." Peggy said with a smile and Y/N nodded and got into the car that Mr.Jarvis pointed at.
"Y/N was a hostage and she has powers. I think it would be best if we take her with us. We can't leave a teenager with powers roaming around." Peggy said to Jarvis. "Well, I cannot argue with that, Ms. Carter. I trust your judgment." Mr. Jarvis said.
"Very well then. She'll be staying with us until further notice then." Peggy said and they both started walking towards the car so Y/N pretended she wasn't listening to their conversation.
"Y/N how old are you?" Peggy asked. "I don't know what year it is ma'am. But I do remember my birthday. June 22, 1941." Y/N responded. "How long have you been held hostage Y/N?" Peggy asked concerned. "Since 1953 ma'am," Y/N responded.
"Y/N you are 15 years old. It's 1957. " Peggy told her. "Oh." Y/N hadn't realized it had been that long since she had been kidnapped. "Are you going to be alright darling?" Peggy asked. Y/N nodded in response and stayed quiet for the rest of the car ride.
"Y/N you'll be staying with me until we find your family. Is that fine with you?" Peggy asked later in the day after Y/N had been interrogated. "Yes, it's fine. Thank you." Y/N responded.
"Your welcome darling."
1959
Y/N had been living with Peggy for almost 2 years. It turned out Y/N's parents had passed away so she started living full-time with Peggy. Peggy trained Y/N and helped her with girl problems. They practically had a mother-daughter relationship but wouldn't agree whenever Howard, Mr. Jarvis, and Daniel would comment on it.
Early in their relationship, Peggy decided that Y/N wouldn't be allowed to go on any proper missions until she was 18.
Now Y/N was 17 and her 18th birthday was coming up.
She was at S.H.I.E.L.D. helping out where she could when she overheard Peggy talking about a mission during a meeting. Y/N didn't realize that she had been listening to the whole meeting until the door opened and Peggy walked out.
"I thought I told you to stop using your superhearing to eavesdrop," Peggy said. "I wasn't eavesdropping," Y/N said defending herself but then Peggy gave her a knowing look. "Okay fine I was but I would be perfect for this mission," Y/N said. "Y/N your not coming," Peggy said firmly.
"Come on why not. You and I both know I could help. You need my help. Please let me come with you?" Y/N asked using her puppy dog eyes to try and convince Peggy. "No you are not coming and that's final," Peggy said walking away and Y/N let out a groan of frustration.
"Still can't come?" Daniel asked and Y/N shook her head. "Sorry kid," Daniel said and walked away.
Y/N watched as the agents all prepared for the mission getting their gear and watched as Peggy made a plan with Daniel.
Y/N decided she was going to sneak into one of the agent's cars. She needed to get Peggy to see that she wasn't weak and could go on a simple mission.
"I think I'm going to head home. There's else left for me to do right?" Y/N asked going up to Peggy. "Alright. We'll be home in a couple of hours darling." Peggy said. "Is it fine if I stop by a friend's house?" Y/N asked. "Yes of course just be home by 9:00 pm," Peggy said and Y/N almost felt guilty.
Y/N said walked out of that part of the building after sneaking some gear with her then she got into one of the cars that an agent was supposed to use and laid down on the backseat floor so he couldn't see her.
The car ride felt like it took forever. Once the agent got out of the car Y/N waited a couple of minutes before getting out. Daniel was in charge of today's mission and Peggy was back at base.
She heard Daniel telling them all the plan and waited until they all attacked then she ran in. They had to infiltrate the base and find an object of unknown origin.
Y/N fought well she knocked out men and didn't use her powers too much since she didn't want anyone to know she was there. Y/N made it to the middle of the building and saw Daniel fighting a man. She continued to observe until another man walked in and she started fighting him.
"Y/N what the hell are you doing here?" Daniel asked. But before Y/N could answer the man Daniel was fighting pulled out a gun and aimed at her and shot the gun. "Watch out!" Y/N yelled and pushed Daniel out of harm's way but the bullet hit Y/N in the shoulder causing her to yell in pain.
Daniel quickly knocked out both of the men and then used her radio to contact Jack and tell him Y/N was hurt.
"Y/N? What the hell is Y/N doing here?" Jack asked. "I don't know but she got shot in the shoulder. I'm going to need backup." Daniel said then focused all of her attention on Y/N.
"Y/N what the hell were you thinking?" Daniel asked angrily putting his hand over Y/N's wound. "Had to protect you. Serum protects me." Y/N slurred out. "Y/N you know I can protect myself," Daniel said. "I'm sorry." Y/N slurred her eyes closing. "Y/N keep your eyes open," Daniel said panicked. Jack and some other agents came into the room and carried her into a van as quickly as they could.
"Peggy is going to kill us," Daniel said once they got to the hospital and Y/N was pulled into emergency surgery. "I call not being the one to tell her," Jack said and walked away and sat on one of the chairs in the waiting room.
...
"Where is she?" Peggy asked urgently as she rushed into the emergency room of the hospital. "Still in surgery. She should be out soon." Daniel told her. "How did this happen? " Peggy asked. "There were two guys I saw her and got distracted the guy I was fighting was aiming for me but Y/N ran in between us and it hit her," Daniel told her.
"How did she even get there?" Peggy asked pacing. "We don't know," Daniel said. "Mr. Sousa Y/N is out of surgery." A nurse told them. "Thank you," Daniel said and stood up. They followed the nurse into the room where Y/N was sleeping.
"She should be asleep for a couple of hours. We had to give her a lot of pain medications because of the serum so she might be loopy when she wakes up." The nurse told them then walked away.
"This is all my fault," Peggy said taking a look at Y/N who lay in the bed asleep looking very fragile. "This is not your fault Peg. Nobody knew she would do that." Daniel said reassuring her. "It is. If I hadn't been so tough on her none of this would've happened Daniel." Peggy her eyes not once left Y/N's frail body. "I took her and made sure to protect her. I was being overprotective. Now, look what happened." Peggy said.
"Y/N is going to be fine. She's strong." Daniel told Peggy. "I'm going to go home and take a shower then I'm going to finish the mission report. Try to get some rest while I'm gone, sweetheart." Daniel said kissing Peggy's forehead then he was gone.
"I'm sorry Y/N," Peggy whispered sitting down on the chair that was beside the bed.
...
Peggy woke up to muffled curses and something clattering.
"You're not supposed to lift your arm," Peggy said. "How am I supposed to drink water?" Y/N asked. "Let me help," Peggy said. She put the glass of water to Y/N's lips and tipped the glass of water back so Y/N could drink it.
"When can I go home?" Y/N asked. "Are you being serious right now? Y/N you've been shot in the shoulder. You're going to have to stay in the hospital for at least a week. You need to learn that your actions have consequences." Peggy said.
"Why are you angry? I saved daniel." Y/N said confused. "Just because daniel was saved doesn't mean it's fine. What if the bullet hit you elsewhere? You could've died Y/N." Peggy said. "Calm down Mum I'm fine. I have the serum and I have powers that makes me stronger. I wouldn't have-" Y/N said but stopped when Peggy collapsed in her chair. "Mum, are you okay? Do I need to call a doctor?" Y/N asked not realizing what she had just called Peggy.
"Y/N what did you just call me?" Peggy asked. "What are you talking about? I called you...Mum. Oh," Y/N said as the realization hit her. "I'm sorry if that made you uncomfortable," Y/N said looking down.
"Y/N do you see me as a parental figure?" Peggy asked. "Well yeah. You raised me better than my parents did. You've sacrificed so many things for me. You took me in when I didn't have anyone and you didn't even have to do that. I've learned so many lessons from you. You're my role model." Y/N said causing Peggy to tear up.
"Y/N, darling your the best daughter anyone could ask for," Peggy said hugging Y/N which Y/N returned.
"I love you, sweet girl," Peggy said. "Love you too mum," Y/N said tucking her face in the crook of Peggy's neck.

"Is that a gray hair?" Y/N asked. "What where?" Peggy asked panicked. "Right there," Y/N said pointing at the hair. "I'm too young to be going gray. This is your fault." Peggy grumbled pointing at her daughter. "What did I do?" Y/N asked indignantly.
"You stress me out too much."
