I woke up to a constant pounding on my door and Peter saying my name. I put my head under my pillow and groaned, I am way too tired for this. Wait, how did I get into my bed last night? After some thinking, I remembered waking up when Bucky was carrying me to my room. I groaned into my hand, god that's so embarrassing.

“Millieeee, I know you're awake I heard you, I'm coming in,” Peter shouted through the door.

I couldn't help but glare at him as he dived onto my mattress.

“It's time to wake up, Steve made waffles and pancakes and that like, never happens, come on,” Peter said pulling me out of bed.

I quickly threw on the sweater Peter pulled out of my closet and followed him down the corridor towards the kitchen.

“What time is it?” I yawned.

“Like 8:30, I think,” Peter answered.

“Why am I so tired, I usually wake up at 5 am,” I questioned out loud.

“I think we went to bed pretty late, we had dinner later than usual and then we watched I movie, but we both fell asleep so I don't know,” Peter rambled as we walked into the kitchen.

“Morning!” Peter greeted everyone, how can someone be so awake at this time I thought slouching into the chair on the island between Bucky and Sam.

“Morning Millie, did you sleep well?” Sam asked.

“Mmm,” I groaned closing my eyes and resting my head on the counter.

“Not a morning person then, got it,” Bucky laughed.

“This is the latest I've ever woken up, don't know why I'm so tired,” I grumbled.

“What time do you usually wake up and go to sleep?” Bucky asked and Sam handed me a glass of orange juice.

“I wake up at 5 am and go to bed and 8 pm unless I was on a mission,” I replied taking a sip of the juice.

“You didn't go to sleep until around midnight last night so that's probably why,” Bucky told me. All I could do was groan in reply too tired to talk anymore.

“Breakfast is served ladies and gentlemen,” Clint shouted.

I forced myself to stand and walk into the dining room sitting in the same chair as I did at dinner just like everyone else did.
Even with the sound of everyone's conversations and the smell of breakfast I still found myself struggling to keep my eyes open, do you get tired when you're sick? Am I sick? That can't be true, I haven't been sick since I was given the serum.

“Hey, you okay?” Bucky asked concern etched on his face.

Finally paying attention to something other than how I feel like I'm about to drop dead from exhaustion, I lift my head to reply to Bucky when i wave of dizziness almost knocks me off my chair.

“Woah, easy, try and eat something,” Bucky said placing a dry waffle onto my plate and cutting it up for me.

“Here, try to eat as much as you can, you can keep your head rested on the table if that makes you feel better, I'm gonna go get you some juice, you need sugar,” Bucky said pushing my plate towards me as he stood up to get me some juice.

I slowly tried to lift my head but gave up when it made me feel worse laying my head sideways on my right arm. I reached over the grab i piece of waffle and as soon as I began to chew I realised how hungry I was and was already a quarter of the way through my plate when Bucky returned with my juice.

“Here, lift your head a little, slowly,” Bucky said bringing the glass to my lips.

“She okay?” Sam asked noticing Bucky helping me.

“She's really dizzy, can't lift her head without feeling like she's about to topple over,” Bucky told him, still helping me drink.

“Maybe we should get Bruce to check her over,” Clint suggested looking over.

“If she's not feeling better after breakfast then yeah,” Bucky said placing the glass on the table and letting me go back to my waffle.

10 minutes later I had finished my waffle and felt good enough to lift my head a little without my head spinning, everyone else was still eating so I just sat there still sipping on my juice.

“Millie, are you okay? You're looking a little pale,” Bruce asked taking a seat across from me. I didn't have the energy to reply so I shrugged causing Bruce to look over to Bucky for answers.

“She's so dizzy she can't lift her head, she’s shaking a little too. She's gained a little colour since eating a waffle and drinking her juice though,” Bucky answered for me.

“Hmm, maybe I should check her over just to be sure,” Bruce suggested to Bucky. “Can you bring her down to the med bay in 10 minutes? I need to set up first,”

“Yeah, we’ll meet you there,”

At that Bruce left the kitchen to head down to the med bay and everyone turned to Bucky and me with questioning looks.

“What's going on?” Steve asked.

“Im bout’ to die,” I murmured.

“WHAT!” Peter screeched.

“She's not gonna die! Bruce just wants to check her over, even after the waffle and juice she's still really dizzy and shaky, a little pale too,” Bucky addressed the table.

Everyone nodded going back to their food and conversations still throwing occasional glances in my direction.

“Come on, time to go,” Bucky said pulling me out of my chair.

We got to the elevator doors before another wave of dizziness crashed over me making me stumble into Bucky's side grabbing onto his shirt to keep me steady.

“You okay?” Bucky asked grabbing my shoulders to keep me upright.

“Mm, jus’ need a minut’,” I mumbled.

Five minutes later I still couldn't walk and lift my head without feeling like I'm about to pass out.

“Im gonna pick you up okay, try not to move your head,” usually I would have been embarrassed about the concept of being carried like a baby but right now I couldn't think of anything worse than walking.

Bucky slipped his hands under my armpits and slowly lifted me with ease, my legs wrapping around his waist and my arms around his shoulders as he put one arm under my butt and the other around my back.

He walked into the elevator and asked Friday to bring us down to the med bay. The feeling of the elevator going down made the horrible feeling come back, I couldn't stop the whimper leaving my lips as I pushed my head further into the crook of Bucky's neck.

“Shh, almost there,” Bucky whispered rubbing circles on my back.

Two minutes later the elevator came to a stop and the doors opened to reveal a large waiting room with a hallway connected leading to more rooms.

Bucky walked into the waiting room and ventured down the hallway entering the only open door, inside was Bruce just finishing up some last things. Hearing us enter Bruce turned around gesturing to the cot in the middle of the room silently telling Bucky to place me down.

“I take it she can't walk then,” Bruce said.

“She could for a little while but just as we got to the elevator she started falling,” Bucky explained.

After placing me on the bed, Bucky grabbed a chair and placed it beside me taking my left hand and rubbing circles on my palm.

“Millie, can you open your eyes for me please honey,” Bruce asked.

Opening my eyes I noticed him grab what looked to be a small flashlight. He came over to my other side and flashed the light into each eye a couple of times and then felt my head for any bumps.

“Well it's not a concussion,” Bruce said walking over to a large cabinet and grabbing a small bag, he opened it and took out a small device and a weird-looking pen.

“Im just gonna take your blood sugar levels now okay, you'll feel a little prick but it won't hurt,” Bruce said.

He took my right hand and pricked my middle finger drawing a small dot of blood and placed the meter on my finger. A couple of seconds later the device beeped revealing a number which I couldn't see from my angle but judging from the look on Bruce's face, it can't be good.

“Is everything okay?” Bucky asked.

“She shouldn't be able to get this low, especially after the two glasses of juice she had this morning, she's at 24, she should be at least 65,” Bruce said, concern etched onto his face. He walked back over to the small bag and put everything away and added a couple of tubes of glucose tablets then handed it over to Bucky.

“Im gonna have to call Cho in if it’s what I think it is, but take her back upstairs, don't let her do any rigorous activities just watch a movie or something, don't let her out of your sight, check her blood sugar levels every 20 minutes or so and don’t give her too much sugar or carbs because once her levels go up I don't think we'll be able to get them back down until Cho gets here,” Bruce said whilst making me eat 3 glucose tablets.

“How do I know if she's too high or low?”

“She's too low if she’s below 60 and try not to let her get higher than 120, that should be easy if you do what I say,” Bruce said.

“She's back in the normal range now so she should be good for a while, but just keep your eye on it, Cho should be here by 1 pm so that's only 3 hours,” Bruce said packing everything away and leaving after a quick goodbye saying he was heading to the lab to talk to Cho.

“You think you can walk?” Bucky asked.

I nodded and began to sit up slowly with the help of Bucky and moved my legs to the side.

“I think I should carry you, you're still looking a little pale,”

“No, I can walk,” I grumbled trying to work through the dizziness but eventually giving in and slumping back onto the bed.

“Hey, it's okay if you can't walk, I don't mind carrying you, I just wanna help,” Bucky said pointing my chin up to look at him.

As much as I wanna walk I know that as soon as I stand up I'm gonna topple straight over. I eventually gave in raising my arms signalling I want to be picked up and Bucky slowly lifted me from my armpits, I wrapped my limbs around him like an octopus and pushed my head into the crook of his neck enjoying the warmth coming from his body.

“Did you hear what Bruce said?” Bucky asked walking into the elevator.

“Kinda,”

“No rigorous activities, not allowed too much carbs or sugar because it’s harder to bring your levels down rather than up until Cho gets here, so we, are gonna have a movie marathon until then, you have so many movies to catch up on,”

“Peter said I need to watch star wars,” as soon as I said that I remembered something else Peter said. “wait, Peter said I was gonna meet his friends today,”

“It's okay, they don't really move off of the couch or Peter's bed anyway, I'm sure they'll be happy to watch movies all day, ill talk to Peter,”

“Mhm,” I mumbled closing my eyes.

“Keep your eyes open for me sweetie, you can't fall asleep until Dr Cho gets here,” Bucky said moving my hair out of my face.

“Nooo,” I whined.

“I know, but if you fall asleep and your levels get too low we won't be able to fix it,” Bucky said as the elevator door opened.

As if everyone was waiting for us they all jumped out of their seats and started throwing questions at us. Bucky walked over to the couch and sat me down, everyone else joining us in doing so.

“So, what is it,” Tony asked as Peter climbed over to where I was, sitting down next to me.

“Not a clue, it's not a concussion though, all Bruce said to me was that her blood sugar levels are unstable and he needs to call Cho in if it’s what he thinks it is, he also gave me a bunch of instructions,” Bucky said opening up the small bag and quickly taking my blood sugar levels. 76. I knew I was starting to feel better.

“Bruce said that's a good number, are you feeling better?” Bucky asked.

“A lot better,” I said sitting up more.

At that everyone dispersed, going back to what they were doing, the only ones still in the living being me Bucky and Peter.

“Are you allowed to sit on the floor, Tony bought me a new lego set this morning, we can build it when Ned and Mj get here,” Peter asked, I look at Bucky.

“As far as I'm aware sitting is still sitting whether you're on the couch or the Eiffel tower, just don't start jumping around, Bruce will have my head in,” Bucky said mumbling the last part to himself.

“Cool, I've already let them know that you’re here and Ned is super excited to have a new friend who will build legos and Mj’s just happy to have a girl in the group,” Peter said jumping up and down like an excited puppy

“Oh also, I didn't tell them about the Red Room, I wanted to leave that up to you, but they won't judge you for it, Mj will probably be even more excited. I've also told them you're living room bound,” Peter explained finally sitting down.

“I don't mind telling them, what time are they coming?”

“They should be here any minute,”

“That's my cue to leave, Friday will tell me if you don't check your levels every 20 minutes, so make sure you do as bruce says, if you don’t know what to do tell Friday and I’ll come and help you, and Peter, keep an eye on her,” Bucky stood up, ruffling my hair as he left the room.

“Boss Baby, Miss Jones and Mr Leeds are on their way up,”

“Thanks, Friday,”

A minute later two teenagers walked through the doors, one looking around in awe and the other looking bored already.

They walked over to the couch and their faces immediately brightened when they saw me sitting there.

“Finally, another girl, I'm sick of being stuck with these two losers,” the girl said sitting beside me. “Im Michelle but you can call me Mj,” she said smiling at me.

“Im Ned,” he said sitting on the floor beside Peter.

“Millie,” I said, grinning at the prospect of having more friends.

“Wait, how come Millie gets to call you Mj straight away when it took ned and me months to be able to call you that?” Peter said exasperated.

“Cause’ i can already tell she’s cooler than you, which isn't hard, but still,” Mj said staring at Peter.

“Mean,” Peter and Ned grumbled.

The way I was sitting was starting to feel awkward so I moved around the pillows and lay down so I was now facing Mj instead of just Peter and Ned.

“How did you meet Peter and the Avengers?” Ned asked I smirked in Peter's direction letting him know I'm gonna tell them.

“Now that I think of it, I don't even know how it happened,” Peter commented.

“Okay so basically Iron-man and Captain America were probably gonna kill me if I wasn't 14,” I said pausing to take in Ned's gaping jaw.

“Why!” Ned screeched causing Peter to let out the laugh he had been trying to hold in.

“Do you know what the Red Room is?” I asked, when they both shook their heads I began to explain.

“It's basically a ‘ballet’ school in Russia, but that's all just a cover-up, what they do is they kidnap teenage girls, or in my case, my dad gave me to them when I was 3 so I was there a lot longer, and they train us to be Russian spies and assassins for the KGB, two or so days ago the team infiltrated the academy and I was ordered to stay in my room in case they were after me, apparently I’m the best they've had since nat but whatever, and I was getting ready to dip when I heard lasers but just as I walked out my room Tony was already there, and I was like, I'm not fighting a robot with lasers so I just surrendered, we had a long funny conversation on my part, and he said I could leave with them as long as I promised not to kill him, and now I'm here,” I explained grinning noticing Neds stunned expression and Mj’s awe.

“That is awesome,” Mj said.

“When I'm not living room bound I can teach you how to fight if you want,” I offered.

“Oh my god, please!” Mj said jumping off the couch.

“I don't think I've ever seen you so excited for something,” Ned said.

“Shut up, this is the best day of my life,” Mj said sitting back down.

“What’s the hardest mission you've ever been on? if you don't mind talking about it that is,” Ned asked.

“It's okay, if I didn't wanna talk about it I wouldn't have told you,” I told him.

“Um, on one mission I got shot and stranded in the alps, I made it back to base, patched myself up and then completed my mission in assassinating the french prime minister and framing his wife for it,” I explained showing them the scar from the bullet wound.

“How did you not die?” Ned asked in shock.

“Honestly, not a clue,” I laughed.

“Baby assassin, it has been 20 minutes, Bucky has requested you check your levels,” Friday said.

“Who told you to call me that,” I asked gaping at the ceiling.

“Boss and Mr Barnes did,” Friday replied.

“That's hilarious,” Peter laughed.

“Shut it, Boss baby,” Peter laughs stopped immediately.

“Boss Baby, that's good,” Mj laughed

“Yeah whatever, Millie do as Bucky says,” Peter says handing me the bag.

“What's that?” Ned asked.

“It's a glucose monitor, I have to test my blood sugar levels every 20 minutes until Dr Cho gets here to find out if I'm dying or not,” I said as I pricked my finger.

“You're not dying, you're probably just diabetic,” Peter said.

“Basically dying then,” I said.

“Not if you do as Bruce and Bucky said,” Peter answered back.

“Whatever, so what are we doing,” I said, taking two glucose tablets out.

“Millie’s never seen star wars so I think we should start there,” Peter suggested already telling Friday to out on the first movie whilst everyone settled into the couch.

Halfway through the movie I was starting to really get into it besides how confused I was when the elevator door opened and Bucky walked out.

“Millie, Cho’s here, up you get,”

“Ughhhh,” I groaned, I just wanna watch the movie.

“I know you wanna watch the movie, but this is important, come on,” Bucky said lifting me by the waist and throwing me over his shoulder as I screamed in surprise.

“Is this what it feels like to fly?” I ask making Bucky laugh.

“Probably not,” Bucky replied.

The elevator doors reopened and Bucky walked out still carrying me over his shoulder.

“You'll love Cho, she's really nice,” Bucky commented as he walked down the hallway and into the room at the end where a young woman wearing blue scrubs and a lab coat was standing talking to Bruce.

I was forced to stop staring when all of a sudden Bucky threw me off his shoulder onto the bed making me screech in surprise.

“Hello, you must be Miss Melonov, my name’s Dr Cho, it's nice to meet you,”

I was weirdly overcome with anxiety and barely squeaked out a small ‘hi’ in response.

“Dr Banner and I have been talking and the evidence so far points to you probably being a type 1 diabetic, so we're just gonna do a couple of different blood tests and we will have the results almost right away, if that is the case we already have everything you
need in stock to last you a couple of days but we can keep ordering new stuff in,” Dr Cho explained as I nodded.

As soon as I saw the needle I was immediately less confident than I was before, which already wasn't a lot, and shied away still not being able to take my eyes off the giant stick of metal.

“I'm just gonna quickly wipe down your arm to get rid of any bacteria,”

After she had finished and wrapped the small belt around my arm I felt my breaths get shorter. I'm not scared of getting shot and stabbed but one stupid needle can defeat me like this?

“Don't look at the needle look over here,” Bucky said turning my face away and noticing my breaths getting heavier.

When I felt Cho take my arm I scrunched my eyes closed and squeezed Bucky's arm, thank god I can control my strength or Bucky
would be sporting a beautiful cast.

“It's almost over, you're doing so good,” Bucky said running his hand through my wavy hair.

“All done, you did amazing, I have enough blood to do all three tests so you've done your job, all you have to do now is relax for the next 20 minutes,” Cho said cleaning my arm.

“I better get a special sticker for that,” I mumbled making everyone laugh.

“We don't have special stickers,”

“Aww,”

“But we do have Avengers bandaids,” Bruce said pulling them out of the draw and handing them to Bucky.

“Which one do you want?” he said leaning over so I could see.

“I want, uh, I want the you one,” I said pointing to the picture on the box.

“Well I'm very flattered,” Bucky smiled handing it to Cho.

“Well be back in around twenty minutes, do whatever just don't make a mess, I'm talking to you Bucky,” Bruce said as they left the room.

“Where are the gloves,” Bucky said standing up as soon as the door was shut.

“Why do you want gloves,” I ask confused.

“Just wait,” Bucky said grinning as he sat down with two gloves and a pen.

“Here,” Bucky said handing me one, “now blow it up like a balloon and tie it,” I copied what he was doing and waited for the next step.

“Now we get to draw faces on them,” Bucky smiled handing me a pen.

“Best face wins, Cho and Bruce decide the winner, and the winner gets the last sucker I found in the draw when I was looking for the gloves,” Bucky says sticking his hand out. I shake on it and we both get to work.

Fifteen minutes later and I had finally finished my face, which was ten minutes after Bucky, just in time as Bruce and Cho both returned to the room. Bruce's face told me he knew exactly what was going on and sighed. How often does this happen?

“Let's see 'em then,” Bruce sighed again.

We both reveal our gloves and wait for the two doctors to decide on a winner, I better win, I didn't spend fifteen minutes on this for nothing.

Bruce and Cho congregated in the corner of the room and a minute later they walked back over ready to reveal the winner.

“And the winner is *drumroll* Millie,” Bruce announced being as dramatic as possible. I raised my arms in celebration and laughed at the disappointment on Bucky's face causing him to softly shive my head away from him.

“Okay, let's put the glove down and turn our listening ears on, I'm looking at you, Mr Barnes,” Dr Cho said looking pointedly at Bucky.

“It appears that I was right, you are a type 1 diabetic which means your pancreas doesn't produce a sufficient amount of insulin, Cho’s on her way out now and when she’s left me you and Bucky are gonna go over everything you need to know okay?” I nodded.
After Cho made her goodbye and we moved into another room with a big table in the middle and 3 chairs Bruce began to explain everything. The amount of stuff on the table was overwhelming.

“Okay so I've already explained what good numbers and bad numbers are so we can skip that, first I'm gonna show you how to attach this little device to your arm, it's so you don’t have to prick your finger but instead you just have to swipe your phone or ask Friday to read it and you'll know,” after 20 minutes of demonstration both Bucky and I had it down and we moved on to the next thing.

A long hour and thirty minutes later we had finally gone over everything and Bruce had given us each a book as well as one for each of the others with everything in it in case we forget.

“What time is it?” I said yawning.

“It's only two thirty, we missed lunch, let's go eat, we can get used to all the counting and stuff whilst we do it,” Bucky said
leading me to the door carrying a bag of supplies to keep in the living room and both our bedrooms.

“Can I climb on your shoulders?” I said trying to pull off my best puppy-eyed look.

“Fine,” Bucky sighed. At that, I wasted no time hoisting myself up onto Bucky's shoulders as he held on to my calves so I won't fall off.

“What do you want for lunch?” Bucky asked as the elevator ascended.

“Umm, sandwiches,” I replied after some thinking.

“I could kill you really easily from up here,” I commented offhandedly.

“No, you couldn't,” Bucky laughed.

“Your guard was down, I could have just snapped your neck,” I protested.

“I think id realise when you wrapped your arm around my neck,”

“No, you'd just be confused, and by the time you realise what I was doing it would have already been too late,” I said as bucky walked us into the living room.

“What would have been too late,” Clint asked.

“Millie was just explaining how easy it would be for her to kill me from up there, she said she could just snap my neck and because my guard was down id just be confused at first and by the time id realise what she was doing it would already be too late,” Bucky reiterated as he dropped me onto the couch in between Peter and Mj.

“Well she's not wrong,” Nat agreed. I smiled smugly at Bucky.

“That's how you said you'd kill me too!” Peter exclaimed.

“Your back was to me, would have been easy,” I said.

“No, I’m spiderman I would have known what you were gonna do before you did it!”

“What the fucks a spiderman!” I said confused.

“Doesn't matter ill show you later,” Peter gave in.

“Anyway, what's the verdict?” Tony asked getting tired of the never-ending debate.

“My pancreas wants me to die,” I said dramatically.

“She's a type 1 diabetic,” Bucky said putting one of the bags of supplies in the tv cabinet cupboard.

“Which means I'm dying, but I can stop it by stabbing myself every so often,” I said. “Bruce made you all books too in case I’m about to die but you can stop it,” I smiled.

“You're a very morbid person,” Steve frowned.

“Are we really surprised? I've killed a lot of people,” I giggled.

“That reminds me, we have that meeting with Fury after dinner,” Nat said looking at me. I put my thumbs up in response.

“Now you're back we can finally build my new lego set, come on,” Peter said already running off not waiting for me Mj and Ned.

“Whys is it so messy in here,” Mj asked sitting on the floor.

“We forgot to clean up yesterday,” Peter said shoving stuff into the corner of his room.

“Here's your jacket,” Peter said throwing it at my face.

“Wow, thanks,” I glared.

“What lego set did you get,” Ned asked excitedly.

“The millennium falcon!” Peter replied with just as much excitement pulling it from under his bed.

As the boys started building I realised this just wasn't for me and joined Mj on Peter's bed.

“You lasted longer than I did when they first asked me to build with them,” Mj said moving closer so I could see her phone screen.

“I just don't get it, why would they not use the instructions when they're right there to help,”

“They like the challenge or something, I don't know,” Mj said and began giving me a lesson in pop culture.

“Are you going to school,” Mj asked after showing me what a vine is.

“Yeah, Tony said he's gonna try and get me into the same school as you guys, he said I could be there as early as Monday,” I informed her distracted by the meme she was showing me.

“Really? That's cool, now I won't have to be stuck with just those two idiots,” Mj whispered making us both giggle.

“I just hope I have some classes with you guys,” I said.

“Tony said he's gonna work his magic, whatever that means, and make sure you have at least one of us in each class,” Peter said looking up from his place on the floor.

“Thank god!”

“Boss Baby and Baby Assassin, I've been informed it is time for Miss Jones and Mr Leeds to head home,” Friday said.

“Aw,” Ned cried.

“It's fine, I won't touch it until you come over next time,” Peter said as they did some weird handshake.

“Bye Millie, it was nice to meet you, hope to see you at school on Monday,” both Ned and Mj said as they walked out of Peter's bedroom.

“So, what did you think?” Peter asked joining me on his bed.

“What do you mean?” I asked confused.

“What do you think about Ned and Mj?” Peter clarified.

“Oh, they're cool, I like them,” I answered.

“Good, they're awesome,”

“Dinners ready children,” Sam said poking his head through the door.

“What's for dinner?” I asked jumping off the bed and following him down the hallway.

“Some type of pasta, I dunno I didn't ask, whenever I do that Steve goes on an entire rant about all the ingredients so I just stopped asking,” Sam sighed.

“Mills, come over here please,” Bucky said from his seat at the dining table.

“Steve made sure to look at all the numbers and shit so we know how much insulin you need, here,” Bucky said handing me the meter connected to my pump. After I finished giving myself the correct amount I sat down in my chair as Bucky served me the right amount of food. Why does this have to be so confusing?

“Oh, this shit is good,” Clint shouted filling his mouth with pasta.

“Clint, language, we have two kids at the table,” Steve frowned.

“Really Steve? One of ‘em goes to high school and the other was an assassin, they've definitely heard worse,” Clint said, everyone around the table agreeing and Steve sighing.

“Millie I have some good news for you,” Tony said from the head of the table.

“Yeah?”

“You can start school as early as Monday, Bucky said hell take you shopping tomorrow because as comfy as stark industries clothes are, I doubt you'll wanna wear them to school, and also you have the same schedule as Peter so you won't be on your own,”

“Thank you! How did you even do it that fast?” I questioned.

“The joys of being me!” he smirked.

20 minutes later everyone had finished their pasta and had migrated over into the living room to watch a movie whilst Nat and I headed over to a conference room for my meeting with the director of S.h.i.e.l.d.

“So, Fury can be a little cold sometimes, but you're probably used to that, just don't take offence, he says what he says because he cares, no matter how much he denies it,” Nat said smiling at me as we walked down the hallway.

“Got it,” I laughed.

Nat opened the door revealing a dark-skinned man with an eye patch and a really ugly coat, do all Americans wear these coats?

“You must be the Millie Melenov, or as Tony put it ‘a smaller version of nat’ Fury,” the director said introducing himself.

“Hi, it's nice to meet you, sir,” I said following Nat and taking a seat beside her.

“If you've been trained anything like Romanoff then my answer’s yes, S.h.i.e.l.d. could do with more of those,” Fury said sitting down opposite us.

“When I was going through the files we took they said that Millie is the best spy and assassin they've had since me maybe even better as much as I will deny that till the day I die,” Nat smirked.

“The guy training me always used to say he was training me to be better than you just so he could prove to Madame B it was possible,” I told them.

“That's all I needed to hear, Nat will bring you to my office sometime next week and we’ll sign everything that needs to be signed, get you your badge and new uniform and we’ll go from there, see you next week Agent Melenov,” Fury said standing up and walking out the door not waiting for a reply.

“That was easy,” I remarked.

“He's never normally that nice,” Nat commented walking back down the hallway.

“Does he wear that coat all the time?” I asked walking into the living room.

“He never takes it off,” Clint shouted from his seat on the floor.

“I wouldn't be surprised if he slept in the damn thing,” Tony added.

“You feel okay?” Bucky asked as I sat down next to him.

“Yeah, I feel fine,”

“Tell me if anything changes,” I nodded and started to watch the movie.

“Wait, how did it go?” Clint asked.

“Apparently all he wanted to hear was that I’m the best since Nat if not better and he said to go to his office next week to sign some papers and pick up some stuff,”

“What! I went through multiple interviews and tests just to get a trial mission!” Clint said surprised.

“I dunno, he didn't even ask me any questions,” I said settling into the couch and going back to the movie.

“Pretty sure I saw a commercial for this movie on a mission once,” I whispered to Bucky recognising a scene.

“It's a pretty good movie,” Bucky whispered back.

Around halfway through the movie, I began to feel different, assuming this had something to do with my broken pancreas I told Bucky as he asked.

Instead of asking Friday, which I was thankful for, he took his phone out of his pocket and swiped it across the sensor on my right arm.

“You're low,” he said and walking into the kitchen and grabbing a couple of glucose tablets.

“Eat those, ill check again in fifteen minutes so don't fall asleep,” Bucky whispered sitting back down.

Fifteen minutes later I began to feel better and let Bucky check again, seeing that my levels were now in a safe range he let me go back to watching the movie. Not even twenty minutes later I started yawning uncontrollably and decided to just rest my eyes for a few minutes.

“Peters out,” Tony whispered from across the room.

“So is Nat,” Clint added.

“Millie is too,” Bucky whispered from beside me.

“No ‘m not,” I mumbled sleepily.

“I think it's past everyone's bedtime,” Sam announced with everyone agreeing and heading off to their rooms, Clint picking up Nat at Bucky's request and Tony taking Peter.

“Come on Mills, bedtime,” Bucky said stretching as he stood.

“Mhm,”

“Not surprised you're so tired, you've had a big day today, the diagnosis, school, S.h.i.e.l.d., you made some new friends, you're doing well,” Bucky said picking me up when I still didn't stand.

“Mhm,” I mumbled again making Bucky laugh.

Bucky opened my bedroom door closing it behind him and threw me onto my bed.

“Oof,”

“I promised Nat I would still ask you this tonight even if she was asleep by the time we got to it, I knew she would be asleep anyway, she had a long mission today,” Bucky said getting my pyjamas from my closet.

“What?” I asked changing my clothes as Bucky turned to face the wall and pulled my covers back for me to crawl in when I was done.

“We wanna know how you feel about me and Nat becoming your guardians, we don't wanna send you off to cps considering your background and even if that wasn't the case, we like you too much to get rid of you now,” Bucky asked smiling nervously.

“Really!?, you would do that?” I asked gaping like a fish.

“Of course, we would, only if you want to tho-” I cut him off tackling him into a big hug, we would've fallen if he didn't stop us from leaning sideways with his leg.

“Im gonna take this as a yes?” Bucky laughed.

“Yes!, this is awesome,” I laughed. I stayed sat on his lap hugging each other for another ten minutes until I could barely keep my eyes open.

“Come on, now it's really bedtime,” I knew I was tired when I didn't protest and climbed back under the covers letting Bucky tuck me in.

“Goodnight mills,” Bucky whispered combing my hair away from my face.

“Night’,” I whispered before letting the sleep take over with a smile on my face.
