Gotta Catch em All
Danaerys stirred in her sleep. She awoke to the squawking of birds. She sat up to see Kai eating a sandwich across from her and talking to herself. “Did I just invent sliced bread?”
“What is that you’re eating?”
“A chicken sandwich.” Kai took another bite, “Glad you’re awake. Your friend was creeping me out.”
“Friend?” Danaerys turned to see Ser Jorah sitting nearby.
He smiled warmly. “Good Morning Princess.”
“We’re on the road to Old Town.” Kai came over to help Danny from the warm swaddle she’d been encased in.
Danny moved the curtain to peer out the window. She made a disgusted face and closed the curtain at the unholy sight of undead lousing around.
Cannibal hollered from outside. “Sounds like Danaerys is awake!”
“Yeah, no shit sherlock.” Kai laughed. Kai handed Danny some food for her newly hatched babies.
“Thank you.” She fed them, smiling as she did so.
“Tell me again who you are?” Ser Jorah said.
“I’m Junette but my agent name is Kai and my sister out there is Veronica but she goes by Cannibal. We’re Danny’s friends from an obsolete timeline. Our Mission is to stop the long night, put the rightful Targaryen on the Iron Throne and bring peace and harmony to the realm. We were close before the world changed. Our mission is the same, but we have A LOT to learn at the Citadel first.”
“AND WE GOTTA COLLECT THE ELEMENTS OF HARMONY.” Cannibal yelled.
“So tell me about this alternate world.” Danny asked.
“I’d like to hear about the elements she speaks of.” Ser Jorah said.
“According to the 3 eyed raven, the elements of harmony are Honesty (Jon Snow), Kindness (Missandei of Naath), Loyalty (Brienne of Tarth), Laughter (Tormund GiantsBane), Generosity (Margaery Tyrell), Empathy (Tyrion), and the last element is magic/friendship, which is you Danaerys.”
“Yes before we left the keep, Sansa said there was another Targaryen, that my brother and I were not the last ones.”
Cannibal yelled, “Yeah, Jon Snow and maybe Tyrion…some people think he’s a secret Targaryen as well. I mean he wasn’t burned to a crisp when he met your dragons in the pit of Mereen so that MAY be a sign.”
“It would make sense that there are 3 Targayens left. I mean Danny can’t ride all three of her dragons.”
“True! But there are theories that Young Griff, Cersi, Jamie, and even Melisandre are secret Targaryens.”
“Really?!” Kai gasped.
Danny stroked her dragons' heads, “In this other life, what were my children's names?”
“Ummmm ask my sister I am awful with names.” Kai shrugged.
“Lady Veronica, what did I name my dragons in my other life?”
“Rhaegal the Green Fury was named after your elder brother Rhaegar, Viserion the Cream and Gold was named after your brother Viserys, and Drogon the Winged Shadow was named after your deceased husband Khal Drogo of the Great Grass Sea.”
“Did you say Khal Drogo? Danaerys was a Khaleesi?” Ser Jorah gaped at Kai.
“What is a Khaleesi?” Danaerys asked.
“It's a Dothraki Queen. You weren’t just a Khaleesi, you were known as Danaerys the unburnt Queen, the Mother of Dragons, the breaker of chains, freer of slaves, commander of the unsullied, Queen of Mereen and the conqueror of Qarth.”
“How did I ever manage to accomplish such things?”
“You had faith in yourself and the power of friendship. You had people you could trust. Your people, especially the Dothraki, didn’t follow you because you were a princess or because they cared about the iron throne. People followed you willingly because they believed in you and your dreams. While most Kings ruled by fear, you ruled with love and that is a bond not so easily broken.”
Daenerys smiled to herself.
The journey to Old Town was a dreadfully long journey. Having to stop so that Cannibal could rest was always frightening. The undead stirred the most when she wasn’t awake to send them away. Fortunately she’d reinforced their caravan with wards to keep safe. The journey was exceptionally long due to the detours they were forced to take either from damaged paths, collapsed bridges, or simply because they needed to scavenge for food in all of the snow and ice. But The journey was long because they had to travel from Kingslanding (East Coast) all the way to Old Town (West Coast) which meant all the way across Westeros perilous landscape.
There was hardly any life between cities. Shambling corpses filled the space between, however the undead preferred clustering over isolation. Even in death they didn’t want to be alone. Every so often Kai would shoot down a bird for them to eat, but when things became bad she resorted to sneaking out of ASOIAF to Tamriel to horde food in her inventory and then return to her companions.
Due to the harsh winter, after about a year on the road they finally arrived at the massive wall built around Old Town. Fortunately the long and stressful journey allowed them to get to know eachother better and of course allow cannibal to dabble in blood magic. Cannibal had experimented with the dragon blood until she’d successfully mastered shifting into a Dragon herself and then sharing the new power with her sister…along with a few other learned skills.
“HALT WHO GOES THERE?’
“We’re starving travelers bro, open the goddamn gates.” Kai said through parched lips.
“How did you make it past the sea of undead?” The Guard above asked.
“Let us in and we’ll tell you all about it.” Danaerys breathed. The dragons whined. They’d grown too large to comfortably ride in the caravan with everyone else where it was warm. Cannibal had carried the young whelps on her back like an opossum mother. Under her large magical cloak, they found warmth from the blustery cold.
After a while the guards responded, “We can’t take the chance of allowing strange travelers within our walls. We have enough hungry mouths to feed. You could be food stealers.”
Cannibal snorted green flames, “Allow us entry or I’ll huff–
Kai stifled a laugh, “I know she aint…”
“And I'll puff…”
Kai shook her head, “She really is saying this foolishness.”
Cannibal stood on her hind legs, “And I’ll air this bitch out.”
“You wouldn’t dare. Doing so would mean never gaining whatever you came here for.”
“Oh? So you wanna fuck around and find out the levels of petty in which I possess? I’m a master at limbo because of how low I’m willing to go. Ya know what…” Cannibal flapped her wings and climbed into the air.
“WAIT WAIT WAIT!!! HOLD ON WE’RE GOING TO OPEN THE GATE.”
Upon entering they finally relaxed knowing they’d made it at long last. People of Oldtown went out of their way to go into the streets to get a look at the strangers. It had been FAR too long since anyone had come from the world beyond. People were only allowed to travel every so often on the perilous roads. Exhausted Cannibal and the whelps decided to rest on the doorstep of the citadel. She didn’t care if she created traffic, she just wanted to lay down and hopefully sleep off her attitude.
Kai, Danaerys, and Ser Jorah crawled from the caravan, over Cannibal, and heading into the Citadel. The fires inside and the thick walls offered some warmth, the building was massive and flooded with books. A man in a robe approached Kai, “I came as soon as I heard there was a dragon sleeping outside.”
“Yes, our companion is tired from the journey here.” Danaerys said. “And you are?”
The man smiled, “My name is Sam, I’m the Grand Maester.”
“I’m Danaerys Targaryen, this is my loyal knight Ser Jorah, and my friend Junette Kai.”
“Nice to meet you all.”
Kai waved her hand, “You can just call me Kai, only close friends are allowed to call me Junette.”
“But I don’t call you Junette.” Ser Jorah said.
Kai pushed her hair behind her ear, “I said what I said.”
Danaerys sighed, “We came here in search of Tyrion Lannister.”
“Of course, follow me.” Sam led the way through the maze of shelves until they came across a bearded man with messy hair sitting at a desk reading. Without looking up he spoke, “No, I would not like to join you in a snowball fight and no, drinking wine doesn’t warm the blood and protect you from dying of the cold.”
“Actually I was here to tell you that you had visitors.” Jolly ol Sam smiled and clasped his hands together.
“I don’t get visitors. I have no friends and my family hates me.”
“Well you’ll never make friends with that attitude.” Kai said.
“I don’t want or need friends, thank you.”
Danny cleared her throat, “We travelled a long way to see you.”
“That is unfortunate.”
Danny looked at Jorah, “He hardly seems like an element of harmony, let alone the embodiment of empathy. Perhaps Lord Stark was mistaken.”
Tyrion set down his book and finally turned his eyes on them. “What do you know of the Elements of Harmony?”
“You’ve heard of them?” Danny smiled, relieved he was finally attentive.
“They’re born from magic, old magic that is supposed to be long gone. Very few texts about them remain, what does remain is very difficult to translate. The Children of the Forest planted a magical tree from the seeds of Virtue to create the elements of Harmony. When together they’re the most powerful force in the world…so I’ve read. Where did you hear of this?”
“A socially awkward guy in a wheelchair who calls himself the three eyed raven told my chaotic witchy sister about it after we killed the King because he failed to burn his fireproof sister.” Kai smiled, “All caught up.”
Tyrion let out a breath, “I may need some wine.”
They all took a seat, gathering around his desk. Sam joined in as well, he was so curious about the entire ordeal.
Tyrion took a long sip, before speaking. “So…you killed the King, who is her brother and his liege…” he gestured to Danny and Jorah. “and then you traveled across a frozen wasteland full of the undead and ice creatures because a man with broken legs told you to.”
“Exactly.”
“They have Dragons Tyrion, there's one sleeping outside right now.” Sam was oozing with excitement.
“All of the dragons are gone, as are their riders, save for the King and his half dead beast. They either died fighting the undead army, or they killed each other over that cursed throne.” Tyrion took another sip.
“I think we should hear them out, Tyrion. They traveled a long way to see you.” Sam adjusted in his seat. “Plus I don’t want to make an enemy of a dragon queen.”
“Listen, all I know is that the three eyed raven suggests we collect all of the elements of harmony. He said it was the only way to end winter once and for all. We currently have one and is hoping to have two when we leave here.” Kai said.
“I was hoping we’d have a generous amount of supplies as well.” Jorah said.
“YOU HAVE AN ELEMENT? HERE? NOW? WHERE IS IT? WHY DIDN’T YOU MENTION IT BEFORE?” Tyrion hopped up and looked around expectantly.
Kai crossed her arms, “The elements are people. Not an object. Don’t ask how, cuz I don’t know how all this mystic shit works.”
Jorah motioned to Danny, “According to the Lord Stark, the Three Eyed Raven, Queen Danaerys is the element of magic and friendship. Had I not seen her burned at the stake myself and three stone turned eggs hatch from her flames, I’d never have believed it.”
“Fascinating.” Sam's eyes sparkled as he wrote that down.
Danny smiled, “And according to The Raven, you are the element of empathy.”
Sam burst into laughter. “Empathy? Tyrion? He has a total lack of empathy for everyone. You sure it's this Tyrion?”
Tyrion stood in silence, he poured himself another cup of wine and turned away. His demeanor shifted. “Sorry to disappoint you but you must have the wrong man.”
“But–
“You should rest up. Tomorrow you should head back to wherever it is you came. For the sake of the realm I hope you find what you’re looking for.”
“But–
“LEAVE.”
They all headed outside and stood together. “Well that was a waste of time.”
Without opening her eyes, Cannibal spoke, “Where's Tyrion?”
“He’s…not coming.”
“Whatchu mean by that?”
“He’s not coming.”
“But the fate of the world.” Cannibal opened an eye.
“He’s NOT coming.”
“Nah, Jorah probably scared him away, ask again without him. Go on now.”
Danny and Kai tried again. When they returned, Kai spoke, “He said and I quote ‘I can’t help you.’ He then shooed us away.”
“You probably came off too strong, let Danny go on in and try it sola.”
“But–
“Just ask him one more time. Just to be sure.”
Danny entered the building alone, when she returned, Tyrion wasn’t with her. “He told me to take a hint and make myself scarce.”
“You’re Targaryen, you’re already scarce.” Cannibal shifted from her dragon form into her natural form. “Let me handle this.”
Danny sat with her dragons comforting them and playing with them.
Cannibal walked inside and followed her elemental locator senses. It was like spider senses, a tingling or a vibration within her. She followed it to where Tyrion was posted up. He was buried nose deep in a book. She cleared her throat. He looked up, “How can I help you?”
“I need to catch up on all of The Targaryen history from the Reign of King Viserys the Kind up until King Viserys the Unworthy asshole who tried to BBQ his sister. Do you know it?”
“I am very well educated on the history of Westeros’ monarchy.”
“Good, because i need one more thing.”
“Speak.”
“I need you to come with us.”
“Oh God, your with them.” He slammed the book shut, “How many ways can a Man say that he is not going?”
“Why not?”
“Because I don’t care about the world.”
“You’re lying.”
“Fine, I won’t risk life or limb for anyone.”
“You’re LYING.” She inhaled deeply. She stared him straight in the eyes, “Tell me Tryion, what do you fear?”
“I–I—I am afraid of being part of a team.”
“Why?”
“I–I'm afraid that I may actually take a liking to you and lose you to the undead just as I did my brother Jamie.”
“Oh shit Jamie died?” Cannibal covered her mouth.
“Yes, my brother is long gone.”
“So Jamie is dead dead or is he like undead dead?”
Tyrion sighed, “He’s dead dead. He fought alongside Prince Rhargar when the horde pushed beyond the riverlands. Hi corpse was burned with many of Rhagars other fallen soldiers.”
“Damn.” Cannibal sighed, “I’m sorry for your loss...”
“Thank you.” Tyrion turned away.
She pulled a massive brown potato sack from her cloak's pocket inventory. “It almost makes me feel bad knowing I gotta do it to you.”
“Do what?”
An hour later…
“She hasn’t come out yet. Do you think she convinced him?” Danny asked.
“We can only hope. He seemed pretty set on his choice.” Jorah stated.
“If I know my sister, I’m sure she found a way.” Kai jumped up, “Oh wait here she comes now.”
Cannibal came down the steps with a wiggling bag over her shoulder. “Okay so the Grand Maester agreed to lend us some supplies in exchange that I give him the hookup.”
“The hookup?”
“I rigged his fireplace to magically spit out letters sent to him via fire and it even has flame time, it's sorta like facetime so we can chat over long distances without waiting on a raven.”
“Then why bother rigging it to accept letters?”
“Well not everything should be said aloud, jeez.”
Danny who had been quiet up until then finally spoke, “Lady Veronica, What is in the bag?”
“I think we both know the answer to that.” Cannibal smiled devilishly while a tied and gagged Tyrion screamed inside the bag.
“Well…I guess we should get going.” Kai sighed.
“Actually, Sam said we could stay a while to rest and eat.” Cannibal bumped her pipboy against Kai’s. “I gotta update your map. Apparently there's a series of underground tunnels we can use to get around faster.”
Drogon bumped Cannibals leg with his snout and proceeded to chitter at her.
“Yeah, well you try flying a caravan of supplies and three dragon toddlers around the kingdom on an empty stomach in terrible weather.” She made a face.
Drogon chittered some more.
“I’m doing my best bro. ”
Rhaegal chittered as well.
“I’m aware I'm an adult dragon, but I’ve only been able to properly fly for a few freaking weeks. I’d like to see you do better.”
They chittered again.
“Wooooow. Okay I’ll remember that when you hit puberty.” Cannibal put a hand on her hip.
