Steve gets a call while he’s in the gym at the tower. He picks up his smartphone, which he is still really not used to, yet still uses it to make sure others can be in communication with him, but he doesn’t recognize the number. Still, out of politeness he picks it up, even though he has spent way more hours pretending to be interested in telemarketing calls than anyone ever should.
“Hello?”
“We have your boyfriend.”
Steve’s eyebrows furrow. He just saw Sam less than an hour ago so he takes an educated guess, “Bucky?”
“Yes.”
Steve lets out a humorless laugh, “Good luck with that.”
He hangs up and turns his attention to the ceiling, “Hey Fri, did you get a trace on that call?”
“Yes Captain, I’ve loaded the coordinates into your phone.” Her light mechanical voice fills the room.
“Great, thanks. Please tell Sam to suit up and meet me at the jet.”
“Will do Captain Rogers.” Steve gives an appreciative nod to the ceiling before jogging to his room, suiting up, and grabbing his shield.
“So what is this about?” Sam asks in full Falcon gear when Steve arrives on the launch pad.
“Our boyfriend’s been kidnapped,” Steve said plainly walking past Sam onto the jet almost casually.
Sam’s face morphs from shock, to worry, into a small smirk, “So are we rescuing Bucky or rescuing his kidnappers from him?”
“Guess we’ll find out when we get there,” Steve shrugged as he flipped the switch to bring up the ramp and close the jet door so they could take off.
When they get there they take a look at the layout of the abandoned facility and make a plan. Steve is going in the front while Sam sneaks in through the back to take whoever took Bucky off guard. They're in position as Steve whispers “One, two, three.” Into the comms and then they burst in.
————————
Bucky was having a good day, well a good start to the day. He had woken up early, as he usually does since he has always had to. From getting up for school, to being a soldier that has to be ready at any time, to being at Hydra where a sleep in Sunday was never an option, he is always up in the early hours of the morning, often before the sun even wakes up. He slipped out of bed as quietly as possible, which seemed to have worked as neither Steve or Sam woke up.
He went on his run but did not return.
While out he sensed people watching him. He was on high alert and was able to block the first blow when one of the assailants decided to show themselves, a cliche black ski mask over their face. He also took out the next person, and the next, and the next. It was around the fifth person joining in the takedown that things went wrong.
Just as he was throwing one guy off him with his metal arm another shoved an electric baton into his side. He went down on one knee, long black hair falling like a curtain over his eyes as he looked down and gritted his teeth against the pain. He breathed through the burning in his veins, as he had been through a lot worse, and started to rise up on his two feet again.
Just as he got to his feet, the baton still shocking him, two more electric batons were shoved into his stomach. The wind was knocked out of him and he then found himself on the ground as black dots crowded his vision and were filling in the blank spots rapidly before everything went black.
-
Bucky woke up tied to a chair with rope around his wrists, ankles, and abdomen. To Bucky, snapping rope was the equivalent of snapping strands of hair, but he didn’t break out yet, he needed to be smart. In the distance, he heard a ringing noise like a phone. He opened his eyes into a squint so he could see what was going on but not give away that he was awake. Before him, he saw a man, one of his kidnappers, face no longer covered. He was average height with brown hair swooped to one side and brown eyes. He was holding out a phone in front of him.
“Hello?” Bucky hears and he knows that voice more than he knows himself; it was Steve.
“We have your boyfriend.” The man said. Bucky wanted to laugh and say, ‘You’re going to have to be more specific buddy.’ But he was still pretending to be asleep.
“Bucky?” Steve replied. Bucky started thinking about why Steve thought of him before Sam, but to be fair he has gotten kidnapped a lot in the past so it wasn’t too much of a surprise.
“Yes.” The man said, a smirk on his face.
Bucky then heard Steve laugh, but not a funny laugh, more of a taunting one, “Good luck with that.” And then the line goes dead. Bucky smirks just the slightest bit.
“What the fuck?!” The guy says. It was obviously not the reaction the man was predicting. Bucky looks around and only sees two other people in the room, both holding the electric batons. Now that he is more prepared he knows he can easily take them.
“Seriously, what the fuck?!” The man asks again, this time directed to one of his fellow kidnappers who just shrugs, dumbfounded.
“He did warn you,” Bucky says right before he snaps the bonds and gets up. He ignores the slight head rush from getting up too fast and the way his legs shake for one second from sitting in one position for a while. The two with the batons approach first, he tracks them as they circle him. One thrusts out one of the batons, but Bucky easily side steps and then punches the guy in the jaw. A sickening crack echoes through the room. While the first man holds his jaw, the next tries to surprise Bucky by attacking him from behind, but it doesn't work. Bucky swiftly side steps again and as the person comes in front grabs their ankle which lands them face down on the ground. Bucky gives them one punch to the head which renders them unconscious. While this is happening the man, still holding his jaw, tries again with the baton, but this time Bucky grabs the middle of the weapon, yanks it over his head with the person attached and lets go. The baton and kidnapper go down with a big thud, also now unconscious. Bucky straightens up gracefully and looks to the final man in the room. He was surprised for a moment that more ‘guards’ did not come into the room after hearing the commotion, but then again Bucky did wound the rest of the men pretty badly when they were first taking him down. They were probably getting patched up or still unconscious.
The last man, still with the phone clenched in his hand, knuckles white which matches his now pale face, looks to Bucky with wide eyes but says nothing. Bucky walks up to the frozen man with a smirk. Out of fight, flight, or freeze, this man obviously picked freeze. Bad move. Although any move would have been bad and useless against Bucky.
Bucky stands right in front of the remaining man, curls his metal hand into a fist, and brings it straight down on his head. LIke in a cartoon the man's eyes roll back comically and then falls backwards, unconscious.
Bucky quickly yanks open the door to see if there is anyone else. He finds three men, in a separate room, still unconscious from earlier and one not so. That man tries to run, but Bucky catches him easily and slams his head against the cinderblock wall, hard but not hard enough to kill him just incapacitate him. Bucky then goes back into the room he was held in and collects the rope he had been tied with. Heathen drags the other unconscious men into the room and ties all the mens hands behind their back before he goes and sits in the chair he had originally been a prisoner on and waits.
Not ten minutes later he hears two bangs as doors are flown open. He gets up and in a defencive stance ready to fight. He hears running and then gets a glimpse of a red, white, and blue shield. He sits back down, knowing he’s safe, as Sam and Steve burst into the room scanning for threats and then their eyes fall on Bucky. “How cute, you two bursting in here like I’m some damsel in distress.” He smirks.
Steve and Sam each give him a half hearted glare as they take in the scene. Bucky is sitting casually on a sketchy wooden chair with barely a scratch in him, although his eyes are a bit darker underneath than usual, probably from exhaustion, and men all around the room unconscious and restrained. “Don’t worry, they're not dead.” Bucky says bringing the two’s attention back onto him.
“Are you okay?” Steve asks, concerned shining in his crystal blue eyes.
Bucky’s smirk turns into a genuine soft smile, “Yeah Steve, I’m fine.” He pauses, "Thanks for coming to get me." He looks sincerely at both his boyfriends.
“Always” Steve smiles.
"You don't have to thank us, Buck. Doesn't seem like you needed us anyway." Bucky gave Sam an appreciating loving smile.
"I'll always need you two," Bucky replies, his smile never wavers as he looks at the two men he loves more than anything in this world or any other.
“How did they even get you?” Sam asks after a moment as he looks around at the men on the floor who were obviously no match for Bucky.
“Electric batons.” The man says, frowning at the memory.
“I thought you said you’re fine.” Steve butt in, face creasing in concern again.
“I am, it was just when three at once hit me that I went down. All healed now though,” Steve was still looking at him skeptically, “I promise." He pauses and Steve relaxes a bit. "Although I could use some food and maybe a movie with my boys.”
“I’ll order the food, Steve you make the popcorn and hot cocoa, and Bucky you pick the movie,” Sam says smiling at them both.
“Sounds like a plan,” Bucky replies getting up, “no reason to let a kidnapping spoil our day.” Bucky is one of the only people in the universe that can make that sentence light and casual.
They head to the quinjet, where they call SHIELD to take in the tied-up men, and then take off for the tower. All three shower and change and by the time they are done the pizzas have arrived. Steve makes the popcorn and his famous cocoa while Bucky picks and starts the movie.
Before they knew it all three were cuddled up on the couch safe within the others arms. Steve and Sam were holding Bucky just a bit tighter than usual. That strengthened grip was the only evidence that the kidnapping ever took place. Bucky had no complaints and melted into the comfort. They were together and safe and that's all that mattered.
