Searching for a Lost Key Turns into an Unforeseen Accident

No sooner said than done: you went over to the hotel opposite your house. When you arrived at the reception, you asked the receptionist for a room for the night. It wasn't exactly cheap, but you preferred it to sleeping on the street in front of your house and risking some ideologue approaching you or even going back the way you came, apart from the fact that you suspected that you wouldn't find him in the dark anyway.

So you paid the money and got the key in return. You said thank you and made your way to your room. To your relief, it was not far upstairs. It was near the beginning of the second floor and easily accessible by lift. Luckily for you, the lift was empty, and you didn't have to wait long for it to open.

When you finally arrived in your room, you put your bag on the bed and sat down to look at the surroundings. It was a smaller room with a single bed, a small wardrobe, a night table, and a second door behind which was the bathroom. To your relief, there was a shower, and towels and other washing items were provided, which meant you were able to shower the next day. The bed was also already made, which meant you would have no work to do with it either, which was a relief.

You glanced at your watch. By now it was midnight, and you realized that you hadn't eaten since lunch. Unfortunately, there was no minibar in your room. So you thought about going to a kiosk or looking for vending machines, but you honestly didn't feel like going anywhere at night. So you decided to just get ready for bed.

You drank some water from the tap, which at least helped a little against hunger, and tried to do your evening routine as well as you could, even if some things were missing. To your relief, you at least had mouthwash in your bag. It wasn't the best solution, but it was better than not brushing your teeth at all.

Since you didn't have any sleeping clothes with you, you just decided to sleep in your underwear so that you could wear your normal clothes again the next day. You also had a little deodorant in case of emergencies, but it didn't bother you anyway. When you were finally in bed, you decided to write to your friend about the situation, and luckily she replied, even though it was almost one o'clock. Since she didn't live very close to you, you couldn't go to her, but at least you were relieved to be able to write to her.

After some time, however, you were interrupted from writing because the tiredness and exhaustion of the day overcame you. So you decided to go to sleep.

The next day, you felt terrible because your legs were killing you. You were not unathletic, but you were not used to a load like yesterday's race. Also, the tiredness hit you because you usually go to bed much earlier, and the lack of sleep is giving you a hard time.

Anyway, you stood up and went to get yourself ready for work. After showering, you packed your things together and left the apartment as fast as possible. You nearly forgot to return the key to the meter.

When you were finally outside, it hit you.
The key! You still don't have your key back! You had to get it back as soon as possible. You couldn't risk anyone else finding it. So you decided to take the day off to look for the key. After telling work and informing your colleagues, you set off to look for it.

But after you had walked the route a third time, you still couldn't find him. You had also asked some people who had passed by if they knew anything, but they knew nothing. "Fuck!" You cursed. You were now standing at the exact spot where you had collided with the man yesterday, but nothing!

You were about to give up, but then you saw him. "The key!" you cried with relief and picked it up from the ground. You had indeed found it. Relieved, you walked back home. You were still so exhausted and tired that you didn't see the car coming out of a side street. The driver was driving very fast. By the time you heard the screech of tires next to you, it was too late. Your vision went black for a while.moment, and you felt your head hit the ground.
The next thing you knew, you opened your eyes and saw a blurry figure standing over you. You couldn't make out much, but the person seemed to be saying something to you, but you couldn't make it out. You felt something running down your head, and you couldn't move. The next moment, your vision went black again, and you lost consciousness.

When you came to, you noticed that you were lying in a bed. You tried to get up but stopped immediately because your stomach hurt from the movement and you felt a sharp pain in it. You still felt dizzy, but you could at least turn your head a little. You saw that you were in a smaller room, a kind of apartment or something. But it was definitely not your home where you were.

After some time, you heard footsteps. You noticed the door opening. A woman came in and walked towards your bed. "Hello, how are you?" She asked in a calm tone. "I'm fine, just a little pain," you said and tried to get up again, but again the pain held you back. "Take it easy; we'll get you fixed up, but it will take a while before you're fit again." Please stay quiet until then. I will come and check on you. "If anything happens, you can press this button," the woman said, pointing to a button on the wall next to the bed. N.  No, wait—where am I and who are you? What am I doing here, and why am I not at home? "I have to go to work," you asked confusedly, but she interrupted you. It's okay.  It's okay.  Everything will be fine. I'm Naja, the nurse here. "You're safe, and the boss said I should look after you until you're well again."

Wait, I don't understand. "Who's the boss?" you asked, even more confused. "Haha, you're funny; you're not seriously going to tell me that you don't know who Sir Laufeyson is, are you?" she asked amusedly. You didn't answer; you didn't want to upset her, and you were too exhausted to take in so much information at once. But you really had no idea who that was. "So if anything happens, you know what to do," she said, leaving the room.

When you woke up the next morning, you still had the feeling of someone in the room before you opened your eyes. So you read them closed to wait to see what happened. And sure enough, you were right when you heard footsteps walking through the room. The footsteps came closer and got louder until they stopped in front of your bed. You weren't sure if it was true, but the footsteps were too heavy to come from the nurse. You continued to act as if you were asleep and were startled inside when suddenly a hand touched your arm and stroked it up and down. You could only stay calm with difficulty, but to your relief, the arm let go when you heard the door open and close again. "How's she doing?" asked a deep voice that seemed somehow familiar to you, but you didn't quite know where it came from.

"She is getting better," replied another voice. This time, you knew it was the nurse. "When will she be recovered?" the deep voice asked, slightly concerned. "I think in a day or two the wound on her abdomen will be healed enough for her to stand up without much pain," the nurse replied. Good.   I expect nothing to happen to her, and she will be brought to me as soon as possible. "If anything goes wrong, I will hold you responsible," said the deep voice in a threatening tone.

"I assure you that everything will go smoothly, and I will do everything I can to make her feel better quickly," said the nurse. "I hope so, because otherwise I'll make sure you'll be sorry for it," said the other voice. Then you heard silent footsteps moving away from your bed and a door opening and closing. He seemed to have left.

Shortly afterwards, you opened your eyes slightly and saw the nurse standing in the room. She seemed upset by the words and looked nervous. But you also felt a slight uneasiness.

Why was someone so interested in you, even though you had never met the person? And why did the person want to talk to you so badly? There were so many questions running through your head, and yet you had so few answers. You were jolted out of your thoughts by the nurse's voice.

"Oh, good morning." I see you are awake. "How are you feeling?" She asked in a calm tone.

"Umm...I think so far so good, only my head and my back hurt a little," you said and turned on your side.

"Well, there's a tray next to your bed with food and some painkillers. I've already changed your bandages. Your wounds are healing well"
"Do you need anything else?"

"No, no, thank you," you replied, and you started to eat from the tray. It was a classic breakfast—nothing special—some toast, jam, and cornflakes. Then the nurse left the room again, and you were alone. After the meal, you looked around the room and noticed that your handbag was next to your bed. You were puzzled as to when it had been there, but did not question it.

Since you had nothing better to do, you took your mobile phone out of your pocket and wanted to write to your girlfriend or at least to your work colleagues that you couldn't come to work for the time being, but unfortunately for you, the battery was empty. So you had no choice but to stay in bed because you couldn't get up yet and the pain was too much. The rest of the day was more or less like a normal hospital day. You slept most of the time and had lunch and dinner. After dinner, you were given more medication, and your bandages were changed again.
